    I suffer from
    Mild intellectual disability
I had a lot of brain bleeds as a baby and almost didn't make it. I have type 2 diabetes and scolliosis and (MID). I used to say I hate being slow so my parents would say "you're not slow it takes time to process longer"

Sorry about this but I just found out my son has borderline intelligence. I'm worried. How are you doing now? Can people get jobs? Sorry if I'm being nosy. Don't reply if this irritates you.

This is the best explanation of ID I have ever watched. It honest it's forthcoming it provides pathways of solutions and general better understanding of Intellectual disabilities.

Even if one is self aware of stigma - the social skills are needed to pro actively defending oneself and self advocating oneself - it a difficult path and often it requires a great deal of support that is not apparent in anecdotal stories of success.... your success may vary.... empathy is just the window dressing for being able find working adaption, tools, and solution which will differ between different socio economic political challenges involved

I firmly believe that intelligence is the ability to acquire new knowledge overall.

Josh Smith I’m sorry your not getting enough help. Your story is similar to some of my kids - I’m a foster mom of 3 teen boys. If you’d like I can share some resources that have helped my children. You can have a good life and it may be hard for you but you can make it. You can get out of high school and have a happy life.

@@aprilparker610 the sad thing is in: I don't know year 7 when I was supposed to be practicing math and staff. I had low motivation and my teacher did not push me at all in math and then I fell behind and then the next year I did. I fell even more behind because they did not push me and know they have sent me too a special class were I have to get all a's to get out on to mainstream but now because I am so far behind even if I did work hard and go into mainstream I would not be able to compete with the people that well know always be 2years ahead of me because no affence and i know It seems like I'm blaming people my teachers really did not help at all and know I'm stuck with no motivation too movr forward and i don't know what to do i don't know what to tell my parents because they well just think I'm dumb and complaining because I don't try hard enough

@@joshsmith3062 If you are above 18 years of age, you can request getting tested for a diagnoses by yourself since you are an adult. I am very sorry to hear about your struggling, but please know that there is help to get if you seek it. Your teachers should've tried to help you more, but since they don't then perhaps getting a diagnosis would help you? You could try talking to your school counselor about it, or your parents? You're not dumb, you just struggle more with some things than some of the people around you do, and that's okay.

How does genetic test result predict and identify functional cognitive emotional intellectual mechanical disabilities in the real world? ASD has more development support programs ID/GDD is a catch all diagnosis that has limited or no support programs. Expensive medical professional intervention need to justify their expense to the patient/parents - just saying I know you are sick and I am very sorry ....is a waste of money and effort on the part of the parent/caregiver and frankly very frustrating. Intellectual academic assessments have had a spotty reputation among minorities because in the past, biases and prejudices in intellectual assessments discriminated against POC in education. Gardner's Theory of Multiple intelligence works around the bias built into academic intellectual assessments by using other criteria for intellectual potential or achievements
