    “Since I appeared on the Pakistan experience @ThePakistanExp1 podcast. I promised to give a list of books on the subject of Jihadism and ideologies. It’s impossible to mention all the books, although I firmly believe that primary sources written in local languages are the most important source of information and understanding but for the sake of a larger audience I am mentioning the ones in English language only:
    1] Any discussion related to Juhadism and geography in its current form is incomplete without the mention of Ibn-Taimiya. Who inspired a plethora of discourses, scholars and rulers in the years to come. Secondly an understanding of Salafism lies at the core of the belief system and lastly the South Asian dichotomy of Deobandi versus Barelvisism is essential.
    1978 is the formative year of Jihadism and militant discourses in South Asia. Essential is understanding ideological expansive intentions of Abdullah Yousuf Azam, Maulana Maududi, the drivers of the Iranian Revolution and Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan till 1988. Our times are just a rough extension of the imagination of these historical markers and individual thinkers.
    Last tweet, since 9 books are more than enough. In the post 2000 world, the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria and with it Abu Musab Al-Zarqavi. Unfortunately there is no good book on the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, this needs to be written, the Salis Umar - a Pashto biography by the Afghan Taliban is a great historical referential book but is anachronistic and facts mentioned are debatable. There is also a lack of any published work based on primary sources of Islamic State Khorasan, majority of the written material is superfluous and lacks basis of local understanding, that book also still has to be written.
    Added a book by Hamid Dabashi, who writes in the tradition of Edward Said, much like New-Historicism and a lecture which I find fascinating.”

    The problem with the Two nation theory is that it placed importance of religion as the sole identity of a person while neglecting language and ethnicity .
    Pashtuns on both sides of the Durand line have more in common than they have with Punjabis Sindhis or other muslims of the subcontinent
    There was no referendum on whether the Pashtuns wanted to join pakistan or Afghanistan .
    Afghanistan Pakistan relations will always be problematic because of the colonial origin of the border .

      Well, that might be true in 1947, but it's certainly not true today. Certainly, there are many issues and also grievances against Islamabad, but they also see the situation in Afghanistan for many decades!. Where there is in fighting and issues are on a different magnitude. People aren't stupid they see their self-interest. Some years ago, the tribal areas between Pakistan and Afghanistan (previously FATA), which were previously more or less self administrated, are now districts in the province of KP. This happened on the behest of the local people.
      Btw when one talks of links on both sides of the line. Well, there are also links between Punjabi and Pashtoon all along the Indus. Infact their is a division (Hazarawal) who speak Hindko ( a mix of Punjabi and Pashto), which make approx. 30% of KP. So these links/ influence go back before the time of the British to the era of Ranjit Singh. So there are many nuances and sides to the reality.

    • @Trollslayer_LA
      @Trollslayer_LA 4 місяці тому +1

      Hindko is not a mix of Punjabi and Pashto at all. I speak Pashto and have met Hindko speakers, their language has nothing to do with Pashto.

      @@f0815Hi-cd1toThere is no Khalistani movement in Punjab, it's only in Canada and England. In the Kashmir valley, really wish you could come down here and see the reality. The false narrative that is shown to the Pakistani Awam is soo far the reality on the ground. The central funds are actually being used for development instead of being stolen by a few families for decades. Tourism is growing and bringing in huge amounts of business.

      Well, the fact is that India carried out brutal actions in the 80s ,90s, and some in the 2000s, leaving many dead. There is a reason why Sikhs protested in UK, Canada, Australia, USA etc.. The same is also true for Kashmir issue. India uses it's Armed forces in the same manner to crush the people only that they give legal cover to it with legislation like the Armed forces special powers act. The whole use of armed forces against people stems from the time of the British.. Pakistan has also inherited that mindset. Of course, when issues aren't resolved politically, they flare up from time to time, as can be seen in Manipur. But the larger question is, will issues in East Punjab and Kashmir fester on under the skin and break out in years to come ?? Open question? Probably, you wouldn't agree with assessment as the principle of Karma only applies to Pakistan, not India😉

    The solution to Afghan Pakistan problem is to redraw the border permanently by allowing Afghanistan to control a part of Balochistan and hence access to seaports. Giving Pakistanis greater control over smuggling of illegal cargo from it’s territory. Also Taliban are more pragmatic as far as trade routes go as they have experience of centuries over controlling trade routes

    There are other backers of TTP because the road they have chosen now is more promising for them. The people only following an extremist version of shariah cannot plan all this; educated people regulate TTP now.
    Other thing is we are also not properly informed about Mianwali air base attack and peshawar mosque bombing in 2023; most of the time it feels like everything going on in Pakistan is backed by a faction of the boys.
    Overall, an establishment friendly guest and maybe the only one who says that they didn't know about OBL.
