I'm grateful to your efforts ! Following your session, after having watched the DAZ website contest page video, I finally finished my Dragster's fire ball ;) ...
I was hoping for a way to get at the different surfaces within a VDB and to apply emissives, but your technique of adding point lights gives some really good effects. And hopefully there will be a “complex” volume shader to come which will make this more fully featured. I was also going to mention Alvin’s great ABAS plugin, but I see that has already been referenced.
Thanks Yoni 😎 I have an RTX 2080 card, and I can't see the VDBs adding a great deal of render time. It's an Iray feature, so GTX cards may take a little longer, but it's not something to fear. Dive right in!
Thanks for your reply Jay. I have a 3070 so I think I suppose to be alright. But when I tried to render some smoke I saw that the whole scene was rendered pretty fast but the smoked looked like it didn't finish rendering, looked grainey. When I rendered it separately It looked better. BTW - I am a new Patreon :)
Thank you so much for this, layers of depth here. I picked up the ROG Flow Z13 tablet PC with i9 & 3050ti, I plan on doing LOTS of Daz 3D, thank you for sharing the websites where we can pick up more assets.
There's a product that does it, I've discovered it after I made this video: www.daz3d.com/abas-animated-shaders-system?cjref=1&cjevent=8562606683d811ec82acee370a82b821
Indeed, any VDB object will work with the shader. Allesandro has a product that can turn regular geometry into VDBs, and VDBs into geometry. Mindblowing stuff: www.daz3d.com/mesh-to-volume-and-back?cjref=1&cjevent=8562606683d811ec82acee370a82b821
Interesting.. The iray shader seem to handle it quite fast as well, but I have to test it and compare. I have Lightwave, blender and Embergen so there is a lot of VDB content I could make, blender also have a mesh o to volume and volume displace tool to allow for creating some modelled vdb´s unlike simulation, and you can export that with the saving of USD files which creates VDB folders, blender also have a new geometry node called VDB volume cube, which can be used to apply fractal textures for clouds etc, in to a voxel grid, then saved out as VDB, import in Daz if you want that. Now I have a question, my current Free version is Daz Studio 4.9 since years ago...how come this newer versions are a lower version number at 4.20? was there a roll back in version numbers sometime?
Indeed Syan, if you have a VDB sequence you can animate it with a product called ABAS (I didn't know this when I made this video, but it works great): www.daz3d.com/abas-animated-shaders-system?cjref=1&cjevent=8562606683d811ec82acee370a82b821
With my sphere selected, I select "Simple OpenVDB MDL Volume" but nothing happens. The sphere stays a sphere and there is no fog/smoke created. What am I doing wrong?
but there seems to be no way to scale the VDB inside the object, which is unfortunate. I'm trying to create flaming people, by importing the posed model into blender, combining all the model parts into one mesh, then exporting as an OBJ, then using a VDB shader... and.. no dice. The flame VDB is tiny.
@@Daz_3D so in my particular case then, this method won't work, because using a posed person model as the container, if the flame only fills up to the ankle, scaling the container means bigger vdb, but also bigger model and still just filling up to the ankle... Drats. I know .. What I'm trying to do is weird.
Itd be nice if theyd fix all the bugs in 4.20. I did a clean install to get rid of unused assets and now i cant save my work space layout. Mesh grabber and dforce companion wont install even tho the dll is in the plugins folder and if i adjust anything in my scene i have to restart or the render fails. Customer service has basically ignored me saying only that its my drivers to either update or roll back but neither of those options helped. Its not the drivers its 4.20 bugs
Sounds like you're having a rough ride, sorry to hear that. One thing I would suggest is to get the Daz Studio Beta version, it can be run side by side with the release version. It acts as a stand-alone application while sharing the same content assets. It's often slightly ahead of the release version in regards to bug fixes, perhaps it works better for you. daz3d.com/daz-studio-beta
That's incredibly impressive. DAZ is doing volumetric effects and Poser is stuck in with 15 year old tech and crappy non Genesis figures. Great for DAZ, so sad for us Poser users.
Hey,just a friendly reminder that DAZ Studio (and these volumetric effects) is free and mostly compatible with Poser content, so you have an easy migration path if you’d like to try it out. I made the switch years ago and haven’t looked back!
@@SphinxMagoo Heya, appreciate the thought. TBH, I find Studio's advanced material room, and its rendering just too unfriendly. Also, I have hundreds of models custom made for Poser, and converting the morphs is a real pain. Maybe I SHOULD try again though, because I have very little good to say about Bondware.

Another great one! Thanks Jay. I wonder if rendering time is going to be longer if I'll add smoke to a scene.

Yay, new toys to play with!

Wonderful new tools! I’ll wait until DAZ actually supports animation as part of the VDB files.

Thank you again!
Thanks, I learned something new today :)
wow wow wow wow! but if we n ohave that specific object we could use anotehr one? i mean a prop or a figura like a chracter or a genesis ?

WP Guru, I know you are DAZ ppl now !!!!!
We collaborate on occasion ☺
Will we be able to animate it in next version of DAZ?
I have used this before a long time ago, now I have Daz 4.23, I can't get it to work, any ideas, my friend?
Interesting..

these are awesome! are these explosions also animated? so you can use them in animations as well as still renders?

Figured it out, I missed the part where you said that I have to select "Default" under Sphere on the surfaces pane.
