I miss this guy too, man. He was a shredder and a bit prophetic.

Good review. Thanks dude, salute you from Russia. And also meme about Meat Loaf-his name is Robert Paulson. Also, i agree about not just song-its more than just a song. Its a dramatic story, some things were in you own life. Its rock opera itself

Saw him once. Great show. So many great tunes. Check out his part in the Rocky Horror Picture Show when he is signing the bless my soul song. Hilarious, and great.

There's a prelude before this song called "Wasted Youth". He basically tells his dad go f himself because he isn't changing what he loves to suit his dad's opinion. Hence the "wasted youth" lyrics in this one. This was my first CD I received at Christmas time around '97-ish, which had been out for a few years at that point...'89 baby....and when I tell you I disappeared so fast and didn't come out of my room until I knew all the lyrics...I did just that. Every time I had to eat, I inhaled and ran off again. I wasn't messin around lol.

I wonder why he never did this song live more often...There is a recording, but it might just be a sound-check rather than "live" to an audience. It would have had the place rocking. Love how you're starting to look into the less well-known tracks from Meat and Jim - they're all bangers! :)

Meatloaf did some of the vocals on Ted Nugent's Free For All album. Ass Kicking. Do "Together" or "Hammerdown"...🔥😎

React to “Life is a lemon and I want my money back” from the same album, but please don’t sing a long 👍

I was looking forward to hugging him in London on the 8th July this year. What a bummer...Guess I'll have to wait a few more decades - hopefully.

Also, keep in mind that Jim Steinman wrote those songs for a musical play that he never produced.

You missed the bagpipes at the end. They belong to the song. They make you think.
My thoughts about the song: Meat was playing the character of a young man who doesn't care about anything, who just wants to party and doesn't think of his future or what his purpose in life is or what will be when he dies some day. I don't think that Meat really meant that we should live like that in real life. Meat was a very caring person, always trying to learn something new and a very hard working man. It's an extreme. We should have fun and shouldn't be too serious, so that we miss the beauty of life. But we also should think about our future, our loved ones and the people around us. At he end there will be the question for everyone of us: What did you do with your life? Only party? Only work? Did you ask Jesus to come into your life, to forgive your sins? Did you fulfil your own special vocation in your life or have you been too busy, lazy or fearful?
I thought of the parable that Jesus told about a father (God) and his two sons. One son was like the young man in the song. One day he went to his father and asked him to give him his heritage right now because he wanted to see the world. The father gave him the money and the son went away. Years passed. The son was having a lot of fun, he was partying all night an had a lot of friends. He even spended his father's money for prostitutes. But then the money was gone. The "good friends" said goodbye. He was alone. He even had to eat the food of the swines. At this point he thought about the life he had at home with his father. So he went back to his father's house. And his father was already waiting for him with open arms.
The father was so happy that he made a big party for the homecoming son.
But the other son was very angry and refused to come to the party. He said: "All those years I worked so hard for you, while my brother was spending your money. I wanted to party with my friends, too." And the father said to him: "All you had to do was ask."
