You are correct. We noticed that mistake ourselves after the video had been posted. That was my son playing that hand and he is a novice blackjack player. I explained to him that, ultimately, it is his responsibility to make sure that he gets paid when he wins, or that his bet doesn't get taken if it's a push. Dealers do sometimes make misatkes and the player has to point out the error or their bet could be taken, or not paid!

It was annoying me that I couldn't tell if this video was actually from 2011 or if it was a reupload of a way older video. Saw the Colts fan in the jersey@11:14 , googled Keaiho Colts 54 to see what years that guy played. He played 2006-10, so the video is probably form 2011. My OCD is now satisfied.

Back in the early 80's, I almost quit my job and moved to Vegas to play Blackjack full time. At the time, I would leave work on Friday afternoon, drive to Laughlin or Vegas from Phoenix and play with a set amount of money, say $300-$400. I set a limit for winning and losing before I started. Usually, if I doubled my money I would leave right then and there. If I lost, I would get in my car and drive home (obviously). So, during a stretch of about 4 months, I would drive to Vegas or Laughlin almost every Friday and WIN! It was amazing. I had a pretty good bankroll and was looking for a place to rent. Amazingly, when I seriously entertained the idea of moving there, I could not win at Black Jack for nothing! So, needless to say after a month of getting skunked, I shelved the idea of moving there to become a full time 21 player. I went back and played after that and had typical results, win some, lose some. A few times I won quite a bit, but other times I couldn't catch a decent hand no matter what (think Chevy Chase in Vegas vacation). FYI, that was back in the day when they had $2 Black Jack tables! Of course you could bet more when on a run.
As of recent, I haven't had much luck at the BJ tables, $10 per hand can add up real fast or lose your bank roll real fast too.

In Vegas, it's becoming increasingly hard to find 3:2 tables. Almost impossible on the strip. I did manage to find one at the Stratosphere with a completely empty table. It was a dream come true. That said, I understand about amount of time played and comps, but personally I don't care about getting two free buffets. I want to win cash. Whenever possible, find and empty or nearly empty table. And forget card counting with a CSM. In fact, forget about card counting period. Stick with the chart. Even still, luck still plays into all this. Casinos will always have the advantage and very few people make a living from this. In other words, bring in as much money as you're willing to lose.

You can count cards against any number of decks. You have to keep a "running count" and then divide it by the number of decks remaining in the shoe to get the "true count,"which is the count per deck. For example, if the running count was +8 and there were two decks remining in the shoe, then the true count would be +4. The true count is used for making your betting and strategy choices.

Yes. You would win $15 for your $10 bet if blackjacks paid 3-to-2. If blackjacks paid 6-to-5, you would only win $12 for your $10 bet.

  • @TheJackpotGents
    @TheJackpotGents  12 років тому

The odds shift back and forth depending on the kinds of cards remaining to be played in the deck(s). The odds favor the player when there are lots of 10s and aces remaining to be played. The odds favor the casino when there are lots of low cards remaining to be played (2,3 4, 5,6). By counting cards you know when the odds favor you and you increase your bets in those situations.

The edge will vary based on the count. If you could never bet in a negative count that would be best. However, you can't sit at a blackjack table and do that. So you bet the minimum when the count is negative. When the count is postoive you usually raise your bets based on how high the count is. If +2 you double your minimum bet, +3 you triple it, etc. Do a Google search on the Hi-Lo card counting method.

Dealers always have to stand on 17 or more. However, in some casinos the dealer will hit a soft 17 (a total of 17 with an ace counting as 11). You should try to play at a table where dealers do not hit soft 17. If a casino hits soft 17 it is an additional advantage to the house of about 0.20%

The fewer decks you play against, the better it is for the player, even if only using the basic strategy. You can easily count cards against multiple decks. You just need to divide the "running count" by the number of decks remaining to be played to come up with the "true count." The true count is used to determine how much to bet and for strategy decisions because you sometimes need to deviate from basic strategy.

I practiced for about three months before actually going into the casinos to try it out.

In the U.S. the state-run lotteries generally have a house edge of around 50% which is much higher than you will find in any casino game. Most casino games have an edge of around 5-10%. Some, like blackjack and baccarat, are only around 1%. Keep in mind, however, that the casino games are played much more quickly than a lottery game that you only play once a day, or once a week.

Well, if you are counting cards then it would be to your advantage to go last because you would know more about the composition of the remaining cards. However, if there are bad players at the table it really doesn't affect your play because sometimes what they do will hurt you and sometimes it will help you. So, in the long run, it really doesn't matter what they do.

Abeo Pang That is what the house will pay you if you are dealt a blackjack. 3-to-2 is $3 back for every $2 that you bet and 6-to-5 is $6 back for every $5 that you bet. As a player, you would rather get paid at 3:2, than 6:5. If you bet $10 and got a blackjack, the 3:2 game would pay you $15, while the 6:5 game would only pay you $12. That is why you should avoid playing blackjack games that only pay 6:5.

I always play 21+3 blackjack. I don't really care about the blackjack hand itself, it's the top 3 and the poker hands. That's where the real money is. If i'm dealt two 5's and the dealer's upcard is a five (different suits) I win $45+,450 off a $5 bet, $90+900 off $10...and so on. If they're all the same suit that's $1350 off a $5 bet plus $45. Similar rules apply for a straight. I'm dealt an ace and a 2, and the dealer's upcard is a 3. On a $5 bet it's for $45 different suits, $45+$900 same suit.

“Math behind Blackjack/Why Casino always wins in Blackjack”
If you write down the combinations of (total of first 2 cards), you will find that most of the combinations makes the total of first two cards in range: 12,13,14,15,16. In other words, you are much more likely to get total of first two cards in this range:[12,13,14,15,16] than any other. If you do the math, there are 75 combinations that makes your total to fall in [12,13,14,15,16,17] and there are 41 combination that makes your total: [18,19,20,21] **which means you are almost twice likely to get bad hands than good hands.**** **
I am not considering the total of first two hands (9,10,11) as good hand because you still have the equal possibilities with 3rd card that can improve or worsen your hand. Many casino’s offer “free double” on 9,10,11 for this reason, which they call “Free Bet Blackjack”
Now, here is the most difficult part of Blackjack: **“Player has to act first”. If player bursts dealer takes the money right away, even though dealer also burst in his turn. **This rule alone changes the entire game of blackjack in casino’s favor. Imagine the opposite, if dealer has to act first and if dealer burst he/she pays you the money right away even if you also burst during your turn. That rule will make casino go broke in no time.
So coming back to the game, after first two cards are dealt, player has to act first. Imagine your total is in the bad range: [12,13,14,15,16,17] which now you know is more likely to happen, you have two option “Hit” or “Stay”.
Let’s evaluate both the options based on what dealers up card is.
Scary range for the player when dealers up card is: [ 7,8,9,10,J,Q,K,A] -> **8 possibilities **
Good range for the player when dealers up card is: [2,3,4,5,6] -> **5 possibilities **
So let’s deal with the scary range [7,8,9,10,J,Q,K,A] because it has more possibilities than good range as you see above. So more often you will be facing this situation.
“**Hit**”: When you are in bad range (i.e. you total [12,13,14,15,16,17]) and you try to hit you have only 5 or less cards that improves your hand and 8 or more cards that worsen/burst your hand.
e.g: players total: 12 and dealers up card in scary range: [7,8,9,10,J,Q,K,A], player needs 5,6,7,8,9 -> **5 cards to improve the hand**
2,3,4,10,J,Q,K,A -> **8 cards worsen or bursts the hand **
same is the case with 13,14,15,16, so “Hit” option doesn’t seem very sound as the book says.
“**Stay**”: When you are in bad range (i.e. you total [12,13,14,15,16,17]) and you try to stay you have only 5 or less cards under dealers up card that improves your chances of winning and 8 or more cards under dealers up card that loses your hand.
e.g: Dealer’s up card is 8 and players total: [12,13,14,15,16,17]
4,5,6,7,8 -> **5 cards under dealers up card is good for player**
9,10,J,Q,K,A,2,3 -> **8 cards under dealers up card is bad for player**
same is the case with dealers up card: 7,8,9,10,J,Q,K,A. So “Stay” option does not help either.
So, out of both the options (hit/stay), nothing seems mathematically favorable to the player. But as per rule player HAS to act first, so no matter how player acts house always maintains the advantage. With the game designed in such a way, it seems to me that house 60-65% odds in their favor over the players.Basic strategy books and online experts claims that house only has 0.5% odds in their favor. I believe it’s published by casino to mislead folks.

The house having a 1/2 of 1% odds in their favor is based on millions of hands and by mathematicians and computers and this only works when the game rules are in the players advantage and the player plays with a standard strategy card. When you deviate from that, it changes the odds more to the casino.

The higher the count, the more 10s and aces remain in the deck. Usually, you just use basic strategy when counting cards. However, there are times when you deviate from basic startegy depending on how high or low the true count is. There are certain "index numbers" that you need to memorize to know when to deviate from basic stratgey. Also, basic strategy says to never take insurance, However, if the count is high enough, it is to your benefit to make the insurance bet.

A "soft" hand is one that contains an ace that can be counted as 1 or 11. For example, ace and five can be counted as either six or sixteen. Ace is the only card that can have two values. A "hard" hand is one with no ace, or a hand where the ace can only be counted as one because if you counted it as eleven it would put you over 21. If you had four, five and ace, you would have a soft 20, If you hand four, seven and an ace, you would have hard 12.

Alot of the strategy is letting the dealer bust, as there are more tens than anything else in the deck. Mathematically the dealer has a 20 if he has a ten showing, so your 18 has already lost. Hard 18 is a stand, really anything over 17 is but a soft 18 still gives you some wiggle room to impove - but not much. I stand on soft 18

It would depend on the compostion of the cards in your hand.

Traditionally, basic strategy said that you should hit a 16 against a dealer's 10 until you have a total of 17 or more. However, many blackjack experts now believe that if your 16 consists of three low cards, such as 4,5,7 then you should stand. The reason for this rationale is that your chance of drawing a low card lessened when you have removed three of them from the deck. So, the answer is that you should stand on your three card 16.

It's hard to hide your big bets as an individual player. That's why card counters sometimes have teams where one player will bet small all the time at the same table. When the count gets high he will signal a team member to come in and make big bets. Since the new player comes in and only makes big bets he won't attract that much attention for varying his bets. Casinos sometimes counter this by having signs at the table that say "no mid-shoe entry."

Captain J The advice I would give to you, is to just give your money to the casino and skip a step. I'm perhaps the best, the most knowledgeable in the world, and I will say it right now, that under no circumstances should you ever stand on a soft 18 against a 9, 10 or an ace. It doesn't matter if the count is high positive, 0 or high negative. Though hitting on 12, and even 13 and 14, against low cards, should be conditional upon how rich the rest of the shoe is in high cards relative to low cards. If the "true count" is more positive than +3, then you would actually be correct, you should stand on 12 against 2-6. But if the true count is between 1 and 3, you should hit against a 2, if it's between -0.5 and 1, you should also hit it against a 3, if it's between -2 and -0.5, you should also hit against a 4, if it is between -4 and -2 you should also hit against a 5, and if it's more negative than -4, you should hit on 12 against ANY CARD even a 6.

The fewer decks, the better it is for you as a player. However, the rules have to be the same, which usually isn't the case. Single-deck is the best to play because it is the fewest decks. However, the casinos usually change the rules on those games because they know it's a better game for the player. The may not let you double down, or only pay 6-to5 for a blackjack. If you play perfect basic strategy you will always be playing at a disadvantage. As a card counter you can have an edge.

  • @sevendst19
    @sevendst19 5 років тому +8

The thing I was surprised to find out and he didn't talk about here is that the dealer is expected to bust (any player hitting on 16 or less) about 28% of the time. If you bust first you lose even if the dealer busts too. On some of those medium hands give the dealer a chance to bust. Other than that, doubling down is not always a good play, I play on a simulator and can't count the number of times on 10 or 11 i double down and get a 2. Unless you're ahead and can afford losing double, or unless you're behind and want to take a chance to catch up without increasing your initial bet, just hit as you normally would, if you win great, if you get a 2, you can hit again to get as close to 21 as possible. Also you aren't going to win every hand, impossible, you aren't going to lose every hand, impossible. Sometimes your fate is sealed before the cards are even dealt, you're going to lose no matter what you do, or you're going to win no matter what you do. So while "playing the math" seems like a good idea all the time, I advise playing feel, if you're at 15 and think a 10 is next, just stand no matter what the dealer is showing, if you think a 6 or under is next, go ahead and hit, if the dealer is showing 6 or lower, maybe decide to let the dealer bust instead of potentially you. Giving dealer chance to bust, possible win, you bust, no chance to win.

8:03 what?? The guy that doubled and got 21 lost his money to the dealer which also got 21? Shouldn't it be a push?

You are correct and this was discussed previously with another poster. We noticed that mistake ourselves after the video had been posted. That was my son playing that hand and at that time he was a novice blackjack player. I explained to him that, ultimately, it is his responsibility to make sure that he gets paid when he wins, or that his bet doesn't get taken if it's a push. Dealers do sometimes make mistakes and the player has to point out the error or their bet could be taken, or not paid.

@@TheJackpotGents So your response to your son being robbed is that he should know better?

No. I explained that mistakes can happen and if you don't catch the mistake at the time it takes place then you will lose your money.

8:04 the player on spot 5 doubles and gets 21, dealer draws to 21 and takes his money. I wouldn't want to play that casino, you aren't going to beat those odds.

J.J. said. "Never hit on 12". If the dealer gots a 7 or higher showing, you better hit, or you'll most likely lose.

You can count cards against an automatic shuffling machine, but not against a continuous shuffling machine. An automatic shuffling machine simply shuffles all of the cards and then they are put into a shoe to be dealt out. With a continuous shuffling machine the cards are continuously put into a machine and dealt directly from the machine. This means that you could get the exact same card as soon as it's placed back into the machine. That can't happen with an automatic shuffling machine.

Ignore the guy at the end! Hit your 12 against 2 & 3! Also hit that shit against a 7 and above! Stand on 12 against a 4-6. All of this barring card counting. It's that easy.

      no don't hit 12 against a 3 . only 1 or 2 or 7 and above

Blackjack is one of the few games in the casino that is a game of skill. If you know how to properly play your hands you will do better than someone who sits there and guesses how to play their hands. However, even if you play perfect basic strategy, you will be playing at a disadvantage. The exact amount will vary, depending on the number of decks used, and the rule variations, but about 1/2 of one percent would be average. That makes blackjack one of the best games to play, if played properly.

It is more advantageous if the dealer hits a soft 17 (a hand where the total of 17 includes an ace). It increases the house advantage by about 0.20% Therefore, you should try to play at a table where the dealer stands on soft 17. Basic blackjack strategy says to never stand on soft 17.

    Hi, Mr Bourie
I'm wondering why the fewer decks are better for players if I don't counting cards?
I think the odds are the same even if it's 1 million decks of card.
Only if I'm counting cards, the fewer the decks are easier for players to count.
btw, I want to thank you for always answer my question, you are such a nice man!

I think many of the larger casinos use a continuous shuffling machine (CSM) on their lower-limit games. However, smaller casinos tend to not us them. The use of a CSM does not chnage the basic strategy for playing blackjack. However, in general, you should try to avoid CSM games because they speed up the game and you will lose faster.
