All teachers will thank you for putting the camera on, even if just for a moment. Please share your experiences and if you're a camera on/off kind of person. Let me know if I should have said anything to the Lingoda team about the "extra" student.
I'm good having the camera on now. I used to have it off. For me it was a confidence thing. I wasn't willing to be seen. Now I would have it on no matter what time it is or how rough I look or feel. 🐻
I think it’s so disrespectful to not have your camera on when you’re being taught something. How would you feel if the teacher didn’t turn their camera on? I’ve just finished a class tonight where the 4 other students had their cameras off. Students actually do themselves a disservice by doing that. The teacher would tend to interact more with me because she could see me and I definitely got more out of the lesson. It’s also nice to get to know other students as you’re often in the same classes or have to do speaking exercises with each other but it’s hard to engage with other students when all they are is black screens. You’ll get so much more out of your lessons if you turn your screens on, trust me 😊
I agree with you 100%!!! I have to admit I think I do interact more with the students I can see. Even if I am trying to be fair to all students. I understand keeping it off if the signal isn’t very strong or stable, or for some it’s a religious reason, but other than that, put it on. You will get so much more from the lesson as you stated. Thanks for your comment. 🖥😉
HI Kristin! An English native speaker learning French (currently trying with Lingoda... hence why I started watching your channel for some hints!) I leave my camera on for most of the reasons you mentioned. The teacher can see me, and I suspect if my face starts looking vague, they can recognise it. They are people too, so I think it is impolite not to... and I have had 1 or 2 classes with bed hair that I have only partially been able to tame pre lesson! :D Most of my classes have actually been 2-3 students, a couple when it was just me (which ironically, I don't like for grammar classes as I don't get a chance to take a minute to think about what I've said during a little break while the other student/s talk) and I think only 1 where there were 5 students. I have also been in classes where I was the only one to have the camera on. I agree that I think the teacher can interact better with the students when they can see the students! Best wishes from Australia.
Love your comments and thanks for sharing. Teachers really don’t care about bed head! 😂 We appreciate the camera on and I hope you continue to enjoy your classes.
@@KristinGrady Lol!I am a Mandarin tutor as well,I understand there are some students who feels a bit shy,but the learning outcome of the class not only depends on teachers but also students to make effort to achieve it.Mind you,I started a Lingoda Sprint Spanish this month and I am absolute beginner ,I did feel a bit embarrassed in my second class as I was unable to answer the question in Spanish. But I started enjoying the classes now as some other teachers gave me chances using English to ask about any question! I do think it helped a lot by turning my camera on during all the classes!
@@HealthWellness-Q absolutely true! It allows the teacher a chance to see the expressions on your face and react to what they see. It could be confusion, or total understanding. The camera on definitely helps. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I'm all for sharing food but it's a different story if it's education or a course. I think seeing someone sitting in for a few minutes once isn't worth reporting. You never know why she was there. She might literally have only been vising for 5 minutes. Or she was teleported in. Who knows. I bet that situation made them think.
No need to tattletale on the girlfriend. I think if they were quiet, it doesn’t matter. I’ve been in classes were my partner could listen because we are in the same room, but she’s not answering. However, if they were tag teaming questions and making it more complicated for you, then it might be worth reporting.
It's not disrepectful to have microphone and camera off. Also some people might go there together because of money, or lack thereof. Or only one computer, or probably both. Also I am not comfortable with my face.
I do not believe that any of your reasons are wrong, but how can you have a language learning class with no interaction? Listening only will not be enough to practice and improve your language skills. And sometimes I’m not comfortable with my face either and I must have the camera on. 😁
@@KristinGrady I think cameras should only be on if people are comfortable with it, or it is necessary, and microphones if you want to ask a question or reply.

There’s power in confidence!
I’m a camera ON person. I personally don’t have a problem with people sharing their ‘seat’ with someone they live with.
Thanks Andrea! I’m a camera ON person too. I want to be seen and have them see me.

I think it is better to turn on your camera! I always do
And all online teachers thank you! If only one student has their camera on they automatically become my favorite student. 😁
