  • Reptile photography is a mulitfaceted beast, but the kit outlined in this video will have you shooting whatever reptile you come across and more! We also do some reptile photography and field herping on a quick local trip to the desert on the hunt for reptiles as always!
    Sebastian Di Domenico is a beast with the camera and is a reptile and amphibian expert.

    I need to go out looking for reptiles more, you inspired me to go herping more from this one video. My go-to has been birds the last decade but have photographed them all and the mid-day heat brings no more opportunities.

    Best phrase ever..."Everything is going to be a lifer for me"... love saying that. 4:41 🔥 Great pointers/tips in this one. Maybe I missed it but what's your GoTo Canon macro? 50mm?

      Love when everything is a lifer! My macro is an older Sigma 50mm 2.8 macro. Love it. bomb proof and sharp!

    Can you please share Sebastian's gear, like all the lenses he uses and camera body and other equipment he uses to help him in his snake macro photography ?

      I don’t know the exact gear, but he uses Nikon stuff. I think he uses the 105mm lens for his macro photos. He’s also just super talented and patient:)

    Very beautiful finds. Petrosaurus are just like desert agamids. Also the shovels-nose was stunning. What is the difference between a mirrorless and a normal camera? I don’t know the equipment well yet.

    • @reptiliandiaries
      @reptiliandiaries  2 роки тому

      I really don’t know the difference, other than a typical DSLR has a mirror that is tilted in a way to “transfer” the image from the lens to the sensor. The mirrorless cameras do away with this mirror and the image goes directly from through the lens to the sensor. That’s a very very rough explanation. Hahah

    Love the 400mm prime for birds and mammals but the minimum focus distance isn’t great on that. I switched to Nikon and ended up with a 300mm f4d af-s, like the one the late, great Ronnie Gaubert used and it had a way better mfd. I’m guessing the canon 300mm is good in that department as well. I love the build quality of the canon L lenses.
    I did always want to try to 100-400 mkii but never bought one. It had a great mfd and is so versatile.

      Terrible minimum focal and you’d think “oh that’s no big deal, I’d never need it for that anyways”, but man, it’s happened a bunch hahaha. Still, I like it for a bunch of stuff. The 100-400 is a dope lens as well, just not as sharp. Nikon is and will always be intriguing…maybe a grass is greener kinda thing but I don’t know, the color science just seems better

      @@reptiliandiaries I have switched gear multiple times because of FOMO and just a love for gear. It’s not a good habit to buy and sell when you’re already poor because you never make what you pay. I heard the 100-400 wasn’t sharp but some claimed that the 100-400 mkii was sharper than the 400 prime which, if that’s the case, would be awesome! It supposedly works well with teleconverters too. I started on Nikon, switched to canon because of the 400mm prime, switched back to Nikon for the 200-500 (really wanted the 500mm pf but didn’t have the $$). I switched to micro 4/3 then back to Nikon and got the 300mm and laowa 100mm f mount and then spring 2021 I traded in and got a z5, 50mm 1.8s, and laowa 100mm z mount. I would shoot canon or Nikon just depending on which brand gets me the best for my dollar at that time. The z5 was $400 off and the 50mm was $100 off at the time I got it so it was a better deal than the rp and the z5 is a newer, better camera in my opinion. Nikon now has the 100-400 z lens which id love to get someday and their macro is sweet but canon has their new 100mm macro which is also very nice. I’m not that familiar with their rf lenses so I don’t know what they have telephoto wise. I think now that both brands are taking mirrorless seriously they will both have amazing cameras and glass. In a perfect world I’d have a couple bodies and a collection of lenses and I’d have a micro 4/3 setup for some of my macro because I didn’t love that system for that.
      I loved my time with the 400mm prime and it’s just a cool lens that’s built like a tank and makes you few good to hold it. I loved the extra reach and VR of the more modern Nikon 200-500 but the build quality and af speed of the 400 was sweet.

    Hello Frank There are some nice friendly and polite guys. They do herping in Georgia. It's not that they are professional photographers, they are just looking. The last video UA-cam offered me was a trip to West Texas and since you were there too, I just wanted to briefly tell you what they found. Lots of Cooperheads, a gray banded Kingsnake and lots of geckos. When they search in Georgia they always find a lot of Cooperheads and Cottonmouse. I thought if you care so much about the Cooperhead, you could ask him where they are. called NKFHerping. Best wishes from Germany.

      Occasionally I’ll shoot some video on the DSLR but 95% of it is on the mirrorless Sony a6500. Reason being, the Sony has build in imagine stabilization so it a lot easier to get decent footage. But, these DSLRs shoot fantastic video

      @@mengchenlee811 I really don’t shoot any photos on my Sony, only video. My lens on choice, and is probably use it for photos as well is a sigma 16mm 1.4. Great for interesting close up wide angle stuff. You’d want to pick up some type of macro too in the 50mm-100mm range
