- Wanna know how to use off-camera lighting? & photograph frogs? I decided to create another frog video showing more in detail on how I create my frog photographs. It's also very similar in how I create most of my off-camera lighting animal portraits that can be found on my website (see below)

Thanks for watching!
Until next time, Cheers! -Neil
Those frog noises are adorable!🐸
You were making me nervous with that camera on your knee and all that water around
Haha .. yeah. I don't like straps so I hand hold my camera all the time. Knock on wood I haven't dropped it yet. I try not to let locations worry me, if I did I wouldn't shoot there
@@NeilJernigan you should get a hand strap, i have one because i hate the feeling of the strap around my neck but i'm very clumsy and drop almost everything (except for animals and most babies) and the hand strap just feels heeps more secure
Nice and great tips, can't wait to try.
Another Fantastic Video Neil! Can't wait till the next one.
Max Stansell thanks Max! Working some ideas for future episodes now!
Love it Neil, I'm glad you posted this!
Cassie Tucker thanks Cassie!
Thank you so much...I am heading to Costa Rica to photograph frogs...love the pen light idea!!
This video is awesome and really helpful, thank you!
Good job!
Love taking Treefrogs lucky enough we moved to East Texas area and we have several different types. Like your video
You're my new favorite youtuber.
Very nicely done Neil. Good content, good tips and well presented. I particularly like that you keep to the point and don't waffle on like some presenters.
Really I enjoyed the video and learned something.
Thanks a lot Neil
Great!! Thanks for watching!
Old video but glad I came across it. I've been doing insect macro while surrounded by frogs. The thought of photographing them crossed my mind and now I know how to go about it. 👍
Wowwww...interesting tip with the pen flash light into the flash diffuser. Today I´ve learned something. Thanks a lot!!!!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
nice tips
It helps me a lot, thanks men
Thanks for watching!
nice with the pen light
I never even considered photography frogs/etc at night. Did not think it was possible. Now I know. And I have a good idea about how to do that. I like th penlight in the soft box, great idea. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Glen! Give it a try and I would love to see your photos!
@@NeilJernigan We are in our dry season now. but, I will definitely look for opportunities to try your technique. I need a small soft box. The only one I have is too big. Thanks for the inspiration.
Very well put together video Neil with some useful tips - two questions though. Firstly, I guess you were aiming and firing and not using 'live view', I wasn't sure? And, secondly, were you on back-button focusing, it looked like it?
Great video. What size softbox are you using? Thanks
Really enjoyed both your frog videos. I love photographing frogs calling like that and you inspired some new ideas for me. But I also was terrified seeing your camera in your lap like that with no strap!!!
Just for the record your Green Treefrogs" are actually Squirrel Treefrogs and your Gray Treefrogs are Cope's Gray Treefrogs (a different species than the Gray Treefrog).
Great video, do you think having a second light would improve the photo?
Hi Neil, you used 5DMk4 so you can use eye tracking focus to shoot it, how it can be done in 5dMk3.
This is awesome. I can't wait to try it this spring. Do you shoot manual flash or TTL? Do you find it makes a difference?
Thanks! I use manual flash 99% of the time. I can control the final image better than TTL.
Cool, thanks man. Keep posting videos. These are great.
Recently moved to NC from CT. We have tree frogs but OMG... Not like this! I moved to Southport in April 2020. Yes... Covid... SUCKS... Nights here are like spring in CT multiplied by 100! I have see some pretty cool critters here... wicked huge walking sticks, mole crickets, territorial toads and a few tree frog species! Watched this video and if our world rights itself once again, please let me know.... I got you
Yeah these vernal pools can be amazing with 10-20 or different species and hundreds of animals!
Hi, Neil, I am green in flashlight photography. Is it not recommend to use TTL in such situation?
Hey! Shooting in total darkness, the flash will want to shoot at full power. That would be too bright and my recycle time would be far to great. So by shooting manually I can optimize the recycle time/battery life and create the light that I want and not what the flash dictates. Hope this helps!
@@NeilJernigan thx for your advice
They don't mind you talking and the bright light appearing? That amazes me more than anything. :) Also, how do you keep the mosquitoes from swarming you?
Actually there wasn’t many mosquitoes at all!
@@NeilJernigan How lucky was that!
What flash modifier are you using?
It is a simple big soft box. Easy to find at any company.
After salamanders Thursday nigh I needed some idea of what I had to do
Sorry got sidetracked. Thanks for the video I have subscribed
Hey Neil... can I took those photograph with 50mm?
Sure! You will have to be very patient if you are wanting close images. Frogs may jump away when you try to get close!
Which Lens you used in this video?
Canon 100mm Macro L
Neil Jernigan thanks
Hey Neil lets do a collab video. Very useful video, thank you.
Thanks! Sounds fun!
Nice video but I'm telling you man, you are going to drop your camera in the water some day handling it the way you do. I cringe at the thought of it.
