    A good tip with the aperture, lots of lenses have a sweet spot and are sharper at different apertures for sharper and cleaner colored photos. Lots of sites review lenses and many include what aperture that lens performs best at.

    I literally I was thinking about using my Canon to take some pictures of my gecko. Thanks for this awesome and informative video! I love your videos man.

      Oh and question; When you took the picture of the Gecko at the end of the video you used a flash? I’m confused since you mentioned using the flash on the camera uses causes grainy photos. Thanks!

      Thanks for watching!
      The flashes that come built into some cameras are very low quality and direct harsh light directly at the subject. Using a larger semiprofessional off camera strobe system like I use here produces nice even light and a much different result.
      Think of it as the difference between using a bright narrow beam flashlight to light up a gecko during a photo vs using sunlight outside.

    I do remember you doing gecko food review and you did bad gecko food, incomplete gecko food, and a good gecko food. Could you do it again for the new fluckers, new zoo med and the eco terra one? Thank you for your very helpful vids

    Would you recommend a macro over a 200-600mm lens if I’m filming reptiles in the wild?

    Wow, what a great job! The best photos in the reptile market!! I’d just lke to know if its to much difference in color perception between photo with your set up and the « real » colors of the gecko. Thanks

      The only adjustments we make are white balance to get the photos as close to life as possible.

    Thank you Brian! I enjoyed this video and picked up a few new tips. What is your opinion on this set up I have? LIGHT BOX: Orangemonkie's Foldio 3 with a extra LED light diffuser halo bar using a 360 smart turntable for 3D images. CAMERA: Samsung Galaxy S10+ using Moment's Lens. I see that you use a black backdrop. Does that bring out the colors on Geckos better than white. Can't wait to try out my new tips I've learned. Thanks again....

      I use black mostly because it's easier to balance the colors than with a white background I think.
      Your setup sounds awesome! I want to try 360 shots soon.

    Hi !
    I am starting to take pictures more seriously and I have someone with a bunch of crested geckos coming next week. Only problem is that I can't find a small, easy to use, black background like the one you seem to have. Any recommandations?

    Man this was exactly what I need it, I’m a portrait model photographer and breed leopard geckos as a hobby. This were great tips, thankfully I got the equipment and photography experience, now all I need is PATIENT, because leopard geckos are a total different type of model 😂.

    Very useful! Can you tell me if either the Nikkor or the Sigma lens that you recommend for Nikon cameras would be useful for taking photos of insects? I'd like to get one lens that I could use for both my reptiles and my isopods, too. Thanks!

    • @AltitudeExotics
      @AltitudeExotics  4 роки тому +1

      They would be great for insects. You could also add an extension tube on for the insects to get extra close to them. Just google extension tube macro photography to see how it works. That would be your best bet!

    Always very interesting videos. One question: what size of softbox do you recommend for photographing crested geckos?

  • @alainacoffee3977
    @alainacoffee3977 4 роки тому

    I love this! Have you done any low light shoots with them before? I think crested geckos look soooo cute when their pupils are roundish but I can never get a good shot with low lighting. I would love to see some high quality low light images of them.

    • @AltitudeExotics
      @AltitudeExotics  4 роки тому +1

      I have! Using flashes is key for this as you can keep the lights dim to get their pupils bigger, then the flashes light them for a good photo with their eyes still opened up.
