- I hiked up Egypt's Mount Sinai at 2 AM to catch a breathtaking sunrise from the summit! This was one of the coolest things I've ever done. In this video I'll also give you a tour of the Bedouin camp I stayed at in St. Catherine, Egypt, near Mount Sinai.

Lucky you...Unforgettable. I made this climb during a pilgrimage in 1985. Sleeping in the tent in the coldest temperature I have ever slept in, and going up in the night, to discover at sunrise, this view of the beginning of the world ... remains one of the most beautiful memories of my life. A strong spiritual experience that has marked me until today. There were fewer tourists at the time and more pilgrims. And no Coffee shop at that Time. 😄 And then the monastery which is one of the oldest in the world ... a memory like a treasure.

You should go back. Im egyptian too and live in florida. I went there 2 years from 2015 to 2017. As long as u follow the legal rules your fine. Egyptian are the nicest ppl ive ever met and ive traveled the world.

I've done this 3 times, 2 sunsets, 1 sunrise, both are stunning, first time was about 25 years ago.

i went to 🇪🇬 last month and ascended this glorious landmark on a tour. even though it was arduous, i made it to the top and caught the sunrise.

I just was finished my hiking to this Jabal Mousa today also finally I got to the top of the mount. Honestly I also totally agreed what you've said which is this experience highly recommended to get it though. It was the best moment in entire of my life when you can have a cup of coffee and see the sunrise coming up. Oh My God, I wish I can go there for the next time. Thanks also Doug for this video. Wonderful trip with you. Went some years ago with camel up to a certain place, then walked that last 700 steps up to the small monastery. Incredible. Then walked down and felt eery single one of those 3, 750 steps. Not with our tour group. It was very interesting and something i will neer forget. Loved your pictures! Thanks so much.

Wow, that was beautiful. I bet you could feel the presence of God up there. I know you can feel Him anywhere, but I'm sure it was even more prominent on the top of that mountain, watching the sun rise.

I did a pilgrimage to Israel about a year or 2 ago and got the privilege to climb this mountain. The experience was beautiful and once we got up it was like nothing mattered. When the sun rose it was such a breathe taking view and I miss it very much.

At 12:26 to 12:45 minutes of this video one sees the Sunrise at dawn (a truly "breath-taking sight" captured on film!)
Not generally known by most Pilgrims to Gebel Musa (believed to be Mt. Sinai by some) is that ancient Egyptian texts have a deceased Pharaoh (Pepi of Dynasty 6) saying in the Old Kingdom Pyramid Texts:
"O Horus, do NOT leave me boatless, FOR I AM A GOLDEN CALF born of Heaven!"
Apparently the Egyptians saw a deceased pharaoh as the rising Sun at sunrise, aboard a small boat, on an invisible Nile River.
Egyptian tomb art shows a small craft with an Egyptian standing at the tiller.
In front of this pilot is a seated Horus, in human form with a Hawk's head.
In front of Horus, stands on four legs, a male hornless calf, with a polar star hovering over its back.
At sunset the Golden Calf has become a mature Golden Bull who impregnates his sky-cow-mother (Hat-Hor) to be born of her again ,at sun rise, as the Golden Calf.
All this is to say, from an ancient Egyptian's point of view, today's Pilgrims are unwittingly witnessing the BIRTH OF THE GOLDEN CALF AT SUNRISE!
My research suggests two sites are actually behind the Golden Calf incident: (1) Gebel Serabit el Khadim and its Hat-Hor shrine, and (2) Gebel Musa in the St. Catherine's area. For more in-depth info google "Mattfeld Golden Calf."

This sunrise is definetly on the level I did in indonesia at the Vulcano Mt. Bromo.
There are many things from my bucketlist I did but these Sunrises on top of mountains are definetly things you never forget.
And the thing I like most, you did it on your own, I did it with a group of people, its a nother meditational/spiritual level doing it on your own.
Especially since it was the mountain that Moses climbed and God gave him the Ten Commandments

I just got back from doing this in May. The bedouin people amaze me how they live in that climate and in the actual mountains. I can't remember but i was like over 3k steps to get to the summit. Many people quite on the path. I was the only American i saw there, everyone else was European or from elsewhere. Plus I'm black so i think i represented quite well for the U. S. 🤔👍
P. S. oh and Dahab was a cool beachy place to scuba divie and just catch a vibe...bro, I'm a janitor her at Augusta University in GA. And God has allowed me to see many countries on a minimal income. Paris, Rome, Venice, Rio de Janeiro, Puerto Rico, Mexico....man life and God is good.

@@doug_barnard : As I watched your Serbia video I learnt that your plan in Egypt includes visiting ( Aswan, Alexandria , Red Sea) allow me to recommend also visiting Siwa-Oasis it's a must add to your plan, you can go directly from the red sea to Luxor and then take a Nile-cruise to Aswan (Don't also forget to visit Abu-Simbel temple in Aswan it's a must see place).

@@doug_barnard I never understood why Christians believe Jabl Musa is Mt. Sinai, maybe they never read the Torah. Mt. Sinai had to be in Median which is in north west Saudi Arabia.
Isn't it funny how with all the amazing things we have created, we can't beat pure and simple nature. But why? Studies show that we need nature to stay happy. For me, that suggests we have a spiritual yearning for God, Who's reflection is in seen in God's creation, nature. Thanks Doug for the video.
