Almaty: A City of Contracts Almaty, a captivating blend of Eastern charm and Western modernity, presents a city of striking contrasts. Its stunning mountain backdrop, lush parks, and vibrant cultural scene make it a tourist's paradise. However, beneath this alluring facade lies a complex reality marred by the insidious presence of corruption. The city's opulent buildings and luxury cars stand in stark contrast to the impoverished neighborhoods that dot its outskirts. While international investors are drawn to its economic potential, local businesses often find themselves entangled in bureaucratic red tape and demands for bribes. Despite the challenges posed by corruption, Almaty's spirit remains resilient. Its people, known for their warmth and hospitality, continue to strive for a better future. A growing civil society is emerging, with activists and organizations working tirelessly to combat corruption and promote transparency. Almaty's journey towards a brighter future will undoubtedly be arduous, but the city's inherent beauty and the determination of its people offer hope for a day when corruption is a relic of the past. Would you like to explore a specific aspect of Almaty or corruption in more detail?

In some areas, Kazakhstan is more developed than the United States or European countries, for example, banking services through a smartphone application. We do not need to go to the bank to open or close a bank account, payment card, deposit account. Through a banking application, you can transfer money to a user in the same bank, another bank, and even to a foreign account in seconds. In the same application, you can pay for any services, from paying for utilities to paying for tuition at any university. Through the application, you can order any purchases in any stores with delivery. I am an Almaty citizen since birth. But currently I live in the states. Have lived in couple of different continents and traveled a bit… I can proudly say Almaty is one of the most convenient cities in the world as well as one of the most beautiful. It definitely has its own backsides but in general it’s good place to live and have family. I appreciate your openness and kindness Douglas, willingness to try horse meat and live in yurt. However, there is one suggestion, I wish you would learn 2-3 important words in kazakh: as thank you, good buy and hello and not reply in russian. As respect to our culture and language we try to speak in kazakh with kazakh person, especially when you greet elderly. It is considered rude to reply in russian when older person speaks to you in kazakh. Just a small notice. I assume if you an experienced traveler, you know it is nice to learn couple of local words it’s not gonna hurt. Thanks
I honestly hate the movie Borat, which made fun of my homeland, it becomes disgusting when bloggers review Kazakhstan adding “borat” to the title, but you showed it better

As local person I have to warn extreme hikers or travellers to take precautions in the mountains or steppes. It would be better to plan extreme travelling with someone experienced. All warnings (winds, hard rains etc) to mobiles are made in Kazakh and Russian languages, not in English. Except for possible harsh weather conditions foreign tourists in the steppe or desert often misjudge the huge distances between housings.

Almaty, a captivating blend of Eastern charm and Western modernity, presents a city of striking contrasts. Its stunning mountain backdrop, lush parks, and vibrant cultural scene make it a tourist's paradise. Hello! bro, this is just a masterpiece. I am a Kazakh from Kazakhstan and I am very pleased to watch this video. It's a pity that I didn't meet you)))
Thanks for coming, friend)
I loved watching this video! It's really entertaining and interesting in general to see your reaction to our national dishes and traditions, I've been trying to take my friends from college in California to Kazakhstan to show them my culture, I can't wait!

thanks so much!!
I love you man , from Great Iraq country
Borat - propagandist. Actually, Kazakhstan is the most modern country in the Central Asia.
Thats food from that restaurant nearby medey actually looks very tasty that make me feel hungry 🤤
I would love to visit and see Kazakhstan. Thank you for sharing!
Don't forget that there is also at least 2.7 million square kilometers of area in Kazakhstan that you did not visit! Hope you will have opportunity to explore more beautiful places and cities in our country❤You are welcome!

What a great karaoke selection Doug 👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻
I'm from Kazakhstan and I wanted to thank you for showing the real beauty of Kazakhstan. It's actually sad that lots of people know this country only by Borat and other bad stuff. To be honest Kazakhstan is a very beautiful place 🩵 Please, don't judge a country just by one information. There might be hidden more beauty that you don't know yet🌱
It’s interesting that a tourist’s pronunciation of “Kok Tobe” is way better than local Russian’s 😁
You’re welcome brother, glad you liked the city :)
👍
