I just came across your great video, very informational. I have a pot full of elephant ears as well and now know how to separate them.. thank you! New subscriber!
I quite enjoyed that. I live in barbados so nice warm weather. Will try to propagate some elephant ears tomorrow! Thanks so much! Felt I was in the garden with you!
im growing my own colocasia gigantea, Thai giant, outside for the first time this year, a nice small easy starter..... but im so excited ive got my seeds ready to start germinating in a couple of months
Mark ,could I just ask . If you have the plant in a pot ,and bring it indoors for the winter, does it need to be relatively dry, to have a dormancy, or would it still require watering if kept in the warm over winter
I think it will slow down in terms of growth unless it is warm and very light. It's definitely a judgement call but I suspect less feed and water will be required. Just as an additional note. I have had one of these in the ground now for two winters simply by mulching and keeping the majority of the rain off with week fabric.
Hi Mark. I’m new to Alocasia plants but have recently purchased three, two Regal Shield and one Low Rider. I paid £21.99 for each plant from my local garden centre. I looked on the internet before I found those and they we’re asking silly money. I put them out for the first time today and they wilted. The temp was only in the 60’s, is that to hot for them? I live in the North of England. Good look with the nursery.
Hi carol. Mine are colocasiq whereas yours are alocasia. Alocasia is a houseplant which can go outside for our summers. Perhaps you made the move too suddenly and shocked them? It might be an idea to take them back in, let them recover and then gradually harden them off over a few days gradually. Hope that helps. Mark
Hi sarah. A bit of a disaster here. The loft i put them in was not insulated. It went to minus 6 or 7. I'm not hopeful. I'll do an update shortly. Mark
@Mark's Garden UK aww no what a shame but you never no. I've got a beautiful elephant ear and I've grown a few corms so I'm totally invested that you can bring your patch back x
Thankyou for giving me the courage to separate my massive elephant ear plant! Excellent video!
Thank you 😊 and I hope it goes well for you and your plant. Mark
Thank you! Someone gave me some bulbs in trouble, and thanks to you, I believe I can bring them back and they will be beautiful!
Thanks for this. And good luck with your bulbs 😊

Ah thank you. I love Barbados! I have visited several times. Good luck with your propagation. My are really growing now. I'll do an update soon. Mark
just bought one elephant ear bulb it was $19.98 at Lowe’s in California. I’ve never spent that much for a single tiny bulb in my life! It better grow!
That's quite expensive in uk terms too. Good luck with it. Mark
Normal price in my country for a taro shoot is $2 NZD (about $1.20 USD).
I've paid more but those were bigger, more mature shoots.
9:19 thanks for spraying to expose the bulb, that’s very exciting for me
Yes i found that very interesting myself too.. Mark
COOL 😊😊
Thank you 😊 Mark
Great Video!

I love them!
Me too. And... They will be for sale soon 😊

@@MarksHouseandGardenUK thanks for your reply
What would you recommend for Southern California winters. Not super cold, do you think they will survive?
Hi. I think it depends on your temperature range. What is the minimum temperature you experience? Mark

Hello Mark, Is this taro, I am trying to grow it as we eat the leaves and tubers. Creating a tropical garden too
Hi there. Yes indeed it is taro. With the edible root.
I've just found your channel 😊 do you have any updates? ❤

I'd love an update! I'm trying to learn how to care for a plant like this that has large dark brown spots on its leaves. Similar species?
Hi brandi. If you look at my most recent video Colocasia Winter Care, this will give you a great update. Thank you. Mark
💚
You can save water by just 'forking' the roots with bonsai rake or fork rather than spray them.
Thank you very much for this tip. Mark
They look happy in their new home. Hawaiians make poi from it.
Now i will need to google poi and make some 😊 perhaps do a video
Lol, I personally am not a fan of poi.
Also eaten in the Pacific islands and its lovely.
