Thanks for mentioning that you're supposed to let the rice dry before putting it in a food processor. If not for that tip, I'd end up with a wet grainy pulp all over my kitchen
For those who is wondering does this recipe works, I have tried it and it works! But you have to grind the rice until it is very fine and powdery, which takes a lot of time for me and my food processor. You also have to make sure that you don't overcooked it in the steamer, or you will get a very hard dough. Other than that, it was a success and it tastes very GOOD! Not like many other recipes that has flour after taste, this one taste just like the one I buy in the restaurant!
i don't know what i do wrong please help, i use normal rice flour and when im making the dough it looks exactly the same as this, but when i cook it and eat it it sticks to my teeth and mouth ??' it's supposed to do that?

I would like to share a thing. In the north east India, there's a desert recipe made of rice flour. The making process of rice flour is same as I remember my granny doing, except here we have a special instrument called, "dheki" which we use for making any kind of flour in bulk. And when I started watching worldwide content, Garaetteok and tteokbokki and mochi makes me think of that desert from my homeland, I hated on a lot and called it intemidating and boring, and stuff. For every person who has commented this recipie is similar to south Indian's 'kolzukattai' this korean rice cake is quite different from what south Indians eat.korean rice cake is chewy and not soft as kozlukattai. Moreover korean rice cakes are added to various korean dishes as a part of the recipe and not eaten as it is.
One thing they should know is that garaetteok, tteokbokki or any rice cake dishes came from TRADITIONS originated from them and from colonization not a copy cat
Not to mention that we have been making rice cakes for thousands of years. Earliest mention of Korean rice cakes can be found in the royal Korean cook book dating back 400 B.C. And it’s very natural that multiple cultures could invent something simultaneously or at various times without contact with each other. Especially a simple product such as rice cakes that uses 3 basic ingredients - rice, salt, and water
For people saying this is our recipe, you copied us, here’s a few things to be noted: 1. No food is truly ours. ( like how no one knows the true origin of noodles. You can google it out.) 2. All cultures have similarities. ( like how we have Navarathri and the Japanese have the doll festival or like how we have Pongal and the Koreans have a similar harvest festival) If you meant those as a joke then fine, nice one. If not, I suggest you actually learn world history properly for once. Good day~💜 BTW I’m also Tamil but I love cultural diversity, so yeah....

Tamtam Gulmatico From what I could tell, you could probably use rice flour to speed up the process. Asian rice flour (I think uses) short grain rice and therefore you could literally use it.
So did people just pound the rice into a powder before food processors? Kinda like how mochi is made? You see food processors used a lot in modern Korean cooking which makes me feel for people in the past!
I'm not 100% certain but I'm fairly sure this can be made by steaming the rice grains and then pounding it, although I might be thinking about a different type of rice cake. Definitely still a lot of work but I wouldn't imagine it to be as hard as grinding before steaming.

I am in grade 6 and we are learning about Japan and I have to make rice cake
The best and easiest rice cake tutorial I've ever seen💝
I have a question
Can we use rice flour instead of soaking rice and grinding
Wow very wonderful so beautiful
Thank you 🙂
In south India there is a recipe call kozhukattai .........similar procedure but they have different stuffing inside it .....
Yah south asian regions have similarities in their food.
Yes name varies that's it
Im jst gonna make it because bts like rice cake 💜💜💜💜
I'm not korean and not indian, I just like chewy rice cakes
im here coz im planning to cook tteokboki
Do they taste better than normal boiled rice? 🤤🤤
So did people just pound the rice into a powder before food processors? Kinda like how mochi is made? You see food processors used a lot in modern Korean cooking which makes me feel for people in the past!
Strawberry Cupcake exactly. Ppl had to grind this stuff by hand before electricity 😭
I'm not 100% certain but I'm fairly sure this can be made by steaming the rice grains and then pounding it, although I might be thinking about a different type of rice cake. Definitely still a lot of work but I wouldn't imagine it to be as hard as grinding before steaming.
@@samellis1675 I think the pounding method is for mochi - it's softer and easier to mash lol. But maybe that was involved with these too!
Very nice recipe! You could even stuff these with a filling :D
What filling can I try in this
Stuck in quarantine so I thought I'd give this a try since I can't go out and buy them😔✊
