- In this video, I spoke with the Kari Cordier for an episode of her podcast called "Face Yoga Podcast". If you're looking for a path that will lead you to a healthier and more youthful looking face, I'd highly recommend Kari's podcast! She invited me to speak about TMJ Disorders (TMJD) as some of her clients suffer from this.
If you're unfamiliar with TMJD, common symptoms include: jaw joint noises - clicking, popping, crackling, snapping, episodes of the jaw locking, headaches, jaw pain, tooth pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, specific tooth pain, ear pain, vertigo, stuffy ears, and MORE!

This channel is all about TMJ disorders - what they are, how they manifest, what to do about them and how they relate to other issues that may be going unnoticed in the body such as tongue tie, sleep apnea, ADHD, and more! Thank you and I hope you enjoy my videos!
Dr. Mistry, I’ve had TMD for a few years now with R sided jaw clicking and popping with just about any movement (not painful) until about a month ago. Now my jaw will not open past the point of popping, it feels like it is about to but sends pain to right in front of my ear. I can’t open my mouth enough to eat certain foods anymore and it’s about a 7/10 for pain. Do you think this is a solvable problem? No TMJ specialists near me having appointments open for a few months so I’m hoping to find a solution for the mean time until I get in..

sorry to hear that!
Hi! I have masseter hypertrophy on only one side of my face which bothers me visually and the jaw popping also occurs predominantly on the same side. When I wore Invisalign for a couple of years I noticed the asymmetry was not as obvious but my face was also leaner then in general so I’m not sure if the fat loss or the Invisalign helped with that side of the face. Would wearing a retainer at night help with any jaw tension/grinding and decrease the size of that muscle over time? Also with Botox into the masseter, is it possible that the muscle can be trained not to clench after a couple treatments or will it have to be ongoing? Thank you!
Wearing a retainer at night will likely not help decrease the size of the muscle over time, unfortunately. Botox will help decrease the size of the masseter. My experience with Botox is that treatments usually have to be ongoing, but there are always exceptions to every rule.
I have a left side click when open mouth wide. tmj specialist made a flat plane splint and it doesn’t look flat. Plus the splint release a plastic taste. And is tight. It that normal ?
I really couldn't tell you what's normal without examining you in person. I'd recommend asking your tmj dentist these questions :)
How long does yr alleged 90% successful treatment results lasts? Is it long term or short term?
If my patients continue to wear the nighttime orthotic, then it can last forever!
Thank you for yr content. I have a very serious TMJ issue I'm trying to deal with. I want to avoid a jaw joint replacement. Are you 90% success rate results long term or short term? I have a lot of bone loss in my jaw and anterior disc displacement. Diagnosed with severe arthritis in left jaw with anterior disc displacement in both jaw joints. Moderate arthritis in the left jaw, severe arthritis & bone loss in my left jaw. Do you think an ICCMO dentist here in Michigan could also help me? He does the neuromuscular work similar to you. Quoted $5500 for the approx 6 month treatment. I want to avoid getting a jaw joint replacement. Thanks.
I use methods similar to those used by most ICCMO dentists with neuromuscular dentistry being at the crux of the treatment. My patients have long term results if they continue to wear the nighttime orthotic.
