I just bought some chewable aspirin to keep on hand. I am 75 and have high blood pressure. My grandfather dies of a heart attack. I will keep this aspirin on my desk. Thanks for this reminder.
In case you don't have Aspirin at hand, taking Cayenne Pepper with a little water may also help prevent a heart attack by promoting blood flow effectively through the circulatory system. It has a mild blood-thinning action
Also, not everyone can take aspirin. In addition to cayenne, garlic also has a blood-thinning action; I use it regularly because I like it, but that's a nice side benefit.
I would guess more people have aspirin than have cayenne pepper. If you are over 40 and especially if you are male have aspirin nearby. in fact take a baby aspirin every day to have more days.
My heart attack symptom was discomfort in my abdomen only, not pain exactly just a weird feeling that gradually was getting stronger. After 30 minutes was taken to emergency room, and was having a heart attack. Just wanted to post this to let everone know that sometimes you can have different kinds of symptoms than the ones you usually hear about. Don't wait. I had 95% blockage in artery needed a stent.
Cough! MY ex was in NM alone in semi. He smoked a cigarettes and he was COUGHING. The Dr told him the coughing was what saved his life. It got his heart to pumping again
Coughing effectively executes a Valsalva maneuver, which in turn aborts some arrhythmias. Both the Valsalva maneuver and coughing can be effective for some types of arrhythmias, especially those that originate above the ventricles (like atrial fibrillation or SVT). However, they are usually not effective for more dangerous arrhythmias originating in the ventricles.
I carry cayenne pepper with me. It' works so fast! Right as soon as I sprinkle a little on my tongue, my chest pressure goes away!!! It has saved many lives. Plus, it's made by God! Also, coughing really hard works too!
@@okolocunningham532 I am glad you do. I bought some tiny glass containers from the Dollar Tree. You get five 0.16 fl oz with a metal screw cap. You can save your life or someone else's.

Thanks for the comment on cayenne pepper. I take about a 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper in 6 or 8 ounces of water once or twice a day. Helps with blood flow and artery health.
An important item I heard which didn’t even occur to me but makes perfect sense is when calling 911, go unlock your front door or apartment door to allow easy access for first responders. I would add, if you can, put any dogs or cats in a closed room. They won’t interfere with the help that arrives nor are they at risk for running out the door as help is coming and going.
as long as you let someone know they are there, if you get taken to hospital and die they'll be left to die of starvation! we all need an emergency instruction pack for family or neighbours.
Can't do that here in South Africa unfortunately because 1) The chances of anyone actually answering our emergency number, 10111, are slim. 2) If you leave your door open the EMT's will be walking into a house devoid of any furniture.

MY sister died of a heart attack in 2014. She was only 35 years old and an Air Force veteran. Sadly she drove herself to the hospital. Rest in peace sister. Love you. Miss you. Rest easy until we meet again. Praise God. Amen.
I foolishly drove to the hospital too. Shortly after I got into my room, I flat-lined and was resusitated with pressure paddles. I survived after having triple bypass surgery.
You need to schedule an appointment with your cardiologist to discuss your symptoms. During this visit, you should undergo testing for atrial fibrillation (Afib) to determine if this condition is affecting your heart. Early diagnosis and management are crucial for your heart health, so don’t delay in seeking this evaluation.
My 61 year old cousin passed away alone in her home from heart failure. She wouldn’t answer her phone or door, so after day 3 they got the building manager to open the door to her apartment, where she was found dead lying on her bed with her dog sitting steadfast by her side not budging. Fore a couple of weeks prior and up to that point, she had been visiting and staying with family on a number of occasions. All the while she complained of significant back pain and general unwellness . She’d gone to see her GP, who did not investigate her issues as a possible heart issue and, thus, failed to pick up what was happening. Nor did my cousin ever consider going to the ER at her local hospital, which could have saved her life. She was a single mum who had a daughter later in life. Her daughter is in her very early 20s. It’s very sad.
I had other health problem, be in the GP and hostipal few times, one CT scan, one operation for gallbladder remove in 3 years, duing those time some how miss out the long team heart problem until I had a cardiac arrest almost lost my life last years.
I can never thank you for doing this video because we singletons are ALWAYS FORGOTTEN by the healthcare agencies that teach these procedures and assume everyone is part of a couple! They also NEVER teach singletons how to deal with a choking episode - which I experienced a few years ago and it's bloody terrifying!!! Very good of you to acknowledge that single people actually exist. NHS, St John's Ambulance et al - take note!!!
I also heard that you should cough very hard when experiencing symptoms or having a heart attack. It does something to improve blood flow by forcing, I think, the heart to pump blood through blocked arteries, I believe it was. I saw this years ago, could be wrong, of course.
Yessss, I’ve heard this too, to start coughing hard!! AND to take some chewable aspirin, I keep these chewable aspirin on hand at all times! Thanks for the reminder too!
That’s an option. 2 other options that a cardiologist told me was 1) hold my breath, keep it in while trying to blow it out and giving yourself a bear hug. 2) literally gag yourself with a spoon. I don’t like the gag reflex so i do the breath and hug technique and it works.
Thank you so much Dr. Mandell for sharing this helpful info. I thank and praise Jesus for blessing me to see your videos. May God bless you and your family.✝️🙏🏾
Just pant. Tiny short breaths to breathe in. Took awhile but I was slowly able to take a bit more air in. I was totally exhausted afterwards. Your body works really hard trying to survive during this time. ❤
had a major 1 in Feb. 2023, chest started feeling weird, shortness of breath, i fought it off for about 2hrs, then realized i needed help, drove myself to the ER…..3 stints put in next morning Funny thing is, at noon & with major chest pains, it too them 2hrs before they took me back & another 30mins before is saw i Dr. Oh well, doing great so far, back to work after missing 10days Basically, shortness of breath would be my 1st indicator & weirdness of chest
Never drive yourself to the ER when you have chest pain. Call an ambulance so you will be seen by a doctor immediately. People that walk into an ER with chest pain are not always treated as emergencies. Arriving by ambulance changes how and when you are treated.
@@dannysgirl1549 There is no excuse for when a 61-year-old man walks into an ER and says he has shortness of breath and chest pains not to be seen right away I was easily capable to drive myself there so no reason to take up an ambulance which could be used for a dire emergency?
An emergency acupressure point to prevent a heart attack if you don’t have access to aspirin is to pinch and hold the tip of your left pinky since it is tied to the heart meridian. I learned that from the video by Sri Sri Wellbeing called “Tips to Avoid Heart Attack | Emergency Point for Heart Attack”. It’s a good acupressure point to know to be proactive so you can get the heart attack symptoms you may be experiencing under control before help arrives.
That's all fine and dandy if you're in a house in a town or city - the title said "on your own" so I assumed it would cover what to do if you were out in the woods camping, hiking, or living alone with no cell service to call for help. What do you actually do when actually suffering the heart attack? Seems the only way to survive is to rely on others and do nothing until help arrives. If that is not an option, then what?

Hi! I am a nurse and a woman who had a heart attack 3yrs ago at 30. It started with substernal chest pain. I thought a soccer ball hit my chest, but as I was breast feeding, i thought it was my 9m old son hitting to find the breast. Over the next 12hrs, I went for a walk (foolishly) and I was severely exhausted just lifting my 9m old from car seat to stroller. During the walk, my left arm went numb. I immediately went to buy aspirin, took 2, and got someone to drive me to the ER. Got 3 stents because of blockages (100, and 90%) in two separate arteries. Looking back, I had weeks leading up where walking up 4 steps were work for me. I thought I just was out of shape bc gyms were closed due to Covid, and I was resting at the tail end of my pregnancy and Mat leave (c section). Always always always take an aspirin when in doubt. It will save your life. Carry it on hand, in your car, in your purse.

Also, even during the daytime it’s helpful if you turn your porch light on it will help the emergency responders. Identify your house.

A couple years ago i had chest pain that didn't go away. (female) My daughter took me to an ER, and they said I was having a heart attack based on the troponin level in my blood. So, ambulance to a hospital with cardiologists, a day and a half full of all the heart tests...nothing wrong, no anomalies. Just chest pain and elevated troponin. Odd..but I never found out what elevated the enzyme. No problems since. 🙏
Elevated troponin levels can occur due to a number of reasons other than a myocardial infarction (MI), including: Heart failure: A potential cause of elevated troponin levels in the absence of coronary obstruction Sepsis: A disease that can cause elevated troponin levels Pulmonary embolism: A condition that can cause elevated troponin levels Myocarditis: A cardiac disorder that can cause elevated troponin levels Renal failure: A condition that can cause elevated troponin levels Atrial fibrillation: A condition that can cause elevated troponin levels Myocardial contusion: A condition that can cause elevated troponin levels Hypovolemia: A condition that can cause elevated troponin levels Stroke: Some acute ischemic stroke patients have elevated troponin levels Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy can cause cardiotoxicity, which can lead to elevated troponin levels Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): Patients with COPD can experience troponin elevation Elevated troponin levels can also be caused by false positives, which are often associated with fibrin clots, heterophile antibodies, alkaline phosphatase, and rheumatoid factor. These are some things you can discount and some things you can further investigate with your doctor.
I had been in the hospital. The night I came home, at 2:30 in the AM, there was the elephant sitting on my chest, Worst pain ever. I sat on the side of the bed, took my pulse, blood pressure, Tempature, all normal, so I thought it can't be a heart attack. I got up and went and laid on the couch and fell asleep. When I woke up, you would have thought I had stood in the shower with my pajamas on. I felt fine. I obviously had a heart attack. Never went back to hospital or really told anyone. That was 10 years ago.

My brother saved his friend's life a couple of nights ago...she was complaining of chest pain, hard to breathe, pain in her arm...he told her to chew some high dosage asprin and she said she felt a lot better right away...she did the same the next morning when the symptoms came back. Luckily she also had a doctor's appointment the next morning and when she told the doctor her symptoms he immediately checked her into the hospital...mild heart attack and severe stress were diagnosed. She's staying a few days in a private room with low lighting, soothing music and total rest. Chewing high-dosage asprin is a must for anyone experiencing heart attack symptoms until you get to the hospital!
Some people do not want anything done, and that is ok, but it is important that your family and doctor understand this. I don't want anything done that would prolong my life, and have the necessary paperwork filled out. A few other things that can save you are coughing as hard as you can repeatedly from the diaphragm. This helps the heart contract easier and should be done until help arrives. Cayenne pepper in liquid form can stop a heart attack also
Drink a lot of alcohol at once? I found that works on chest pains, they may get worse for a little bit but alcohol cures everything as far as I know. edit: Not joking, it is the only thing that makes me feel better.

Cough! MY ex was in NM alone in semi. He smoked a cigarettes and he was COUGHING. The Dr told him the coughing was what saved his life. It got his heart to pumping again
Wow
I heard a doctor on the radio advising the same cough and keep coughing
It's possible coughing dislodges the clot that's forming/formed.
I heard the same. the best should be to inhale as much air as possible and then cough.
Thanks for pure selfless service to humanity.God bless you and family
I carry cayenne pepper with me. It' works so fast! Right as soon as I sprinkle a little on my tongue, my chest pressure goes away!!! It has saved many lives. Plus, it's made by God! Also, coughing really hard works too!

EXCELLENT advice!!!
as long as you let someone know they are there, if you get taken to hospital and die they'll be left to die of starvation! we all need an emergency instruction pack for family or neighbours.
What if nobody goes to your place for a wk.bcs u died?😢
Can't do that here in South Africa unfortunately because 1) The chances of anyone actually answering our emergency number, 10111, are slim. 2) If you leave your door open the EMT's will be walking into a house devoid of any furniture.

Indigestion, Dizziness, Fatigue, Heart Palpitations, Brain Fog. Been having these symptoms for more than 5 years now.

So very sad!

I also heard that you should cough very hard when experiencing symptoms or having a heart attack. It does something to improve blood flow by forcing, I think, the heart to pump blood through blocked arteries, I believe it was. I saw this years ago, could be wrong, of course.
I was just getting ready to say the exact same thing. Hard coughing is very important and it can literally save you till help comes .
Yessss, I’ve heard this too, to start coughing hard!! AND to take some chewable aspirin, I keep these chewable aspirin on hand at all times! Thanks for the reminder too!
Yes I was just going to mention this too!
I heard about paprika and/or chewable aspirin. The coughing is essential.
That’s an option. 2 other options that a cardiologist told me was
1) hold my breath, keep it in while trying to blow it out and giving yourself a bear hug.
2) literally gag yourself with a spoon.
I don’t like the gag reflex so i do the breath and hug technique and it works.

Basically, shortness of breath would be my 1st indicator & weirdness of chest
Never drive yourself to the ER when you have chest pain. Call an ambulance so you will be seen by a doctor immediately. People that walk into an ER with chest pain are not always treated as emergencies. Arriving by ambulance changes how and when you are treated.

This helps with my angina at times
That's all fine and dandy if you're in a house in a town or city - the title said "on your own" so I assumed it would cover what to do if you were out in the woods camping, hiking, or living alone with no cell service to call for help. What do you actually do when actually suffering the heart attack? Seems the only way to survive is to rely on others and do nothing until help arrives. If that is not an option, then what?

Thank you as always Dr. Mandell. Can you please post a video regarding women's symptoms of heart attack? I know that they may present very differently.
@kareemai1403 have a question ... what test shows blockages?? .. I've had only blood tests done, and they say you look good and fit bloodbwork is good so nothing wrong. Just go home ... frustrating

Elevated troponin levels can occur due to a number of reasons other than a myocardial infarction (MI), including:
Heart failure: A potential cause of elevated troponin levels in the absence of coronary obstruction
Sepsis: A disease that can cause elevated troponin levels

Pulmonary embolism: A condition that can cause elevated troponin levels

Myocarditis: A cardiac disorder that can cause elevated troponin levels
Renal failure: A condition that can cause elevated troponin levels

Atrial fibrillation: A condition that can cause elevated troponin levels

Myocardial contusion: A condition that can cause elevated troponin levels

Hypovolemia: A condition that can cause elevated troponin levels

Stroke: Some acute ischemic stroke patients have elevated troponin levels

Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy can cause cardiotoxicity, which can lead to elevated troponin levels

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): Patients with COPD can experience troponin elevation
Elevated troponin levels can also be caused by false positives, which are often associated with fibrin clots, heterophile antibodies, alkaline phosphatase, and rheumatoid factor.

He didn't feel well, back of his shoulders/his back caused him some aggravation, he called his boss he was coming home, unfortunately sick. So he drove to Amsterdam and actually right to the hospital there as he really felt like shite. He went in and he was placed in a bed immediately and needed several bypasses. When the doctor heard he drove his truck from Paris to Amsterdam he said my father had had an angel sitting on his shoulder during that drive back.
For the rest of his life he was on medication after this but he made it.

Then we had to leave the dog alone at home! I don’t know anyone who can take care of the dog. I found someone who took him out for short walks every day but he was alone every night for 2 weeks!
As I have heart issues as well, I really don’t know what to do with the dog, if something happens again???
