A charcoal filter is for smell in grow tents and not. for1 removal of particles. Most lasers use a very expensive hepa filter. 6 inch is way overkill and will move a lot of heat from your house plus the duct is almost 7 inches od. Love these enclosures you've made. Would you consider building an enclosure for me? Just the enclosure with cutout for exhaust, Unpainted and shipped flat for me to assemble? Very very interested.
Sorry I am not set up to be able to sell anything. I tried setting up a business with 2 employees here in NY and the state mandates and fees were just too high. Over 20k a year off the top every year. Only sharing ideas. Thanks for watching.
Very nice build... again! That went together so well. I wasn't too interested in CNC or Lasers when I first started seeing them but the more I see you and another fellow I follow on here the better I'm liking them. I can see doing some really good pieces with very tight tolerances. Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving tomorrow! That garden by itself will make a great meal!
Thanks. They are fun learning tools that always amaze me. Most of the lasers are affordable now and do a really nice job. Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving also. Thanks for watching.
New to the channel, great build. I was looking for something on YT for enclosures for the X1, and yours was the first to come up, can you show how you tied the vent into your existing duct? Thanks again.
It's just a 4 inch tee going out through one of the 4 inch flapper vent like they use for dryers to keep clod air out. Used 2 4 inch dust collection blast gates to isolate them when just running one. Thanks for watching.
Ed, beautiful job as always. Your attention to detail in everything you do and how you explain is wonderful. Would you sell a copy of theses plans. Watching your review of the D1 is what made my decision on getting a beginner laser so much easier. I ordered from your link and have received and have my grid on order now. My wife is even now loving your channel watching the gardening and other videos
Thanks. I don't have plans. that would be useful. I have the tap files for the side but that's not what the final assembly is. I start slightly over size and trim as I put things together. Most everything was just made from measurements as assembling and I don't waste time documenting stuff or fixing files because I will never build another. I drilled and tapped holes in the frame by transfering them and had to modify the x motor cables to make the chain work. I have about 100 hours into this. Most went to tweaking everything to be a perfect fit with perfect gaps as putting it together and changing ideas as I went along. I would say start with some cardboard, make some sides, decide if you want to void the warranty or use other ideas to make it all work together. I originally was trying to find a vacuum former to just make a big one piece clear enclosure over a form I started that would drop over the machine which really would be easy to mass produce and be super affordable but that would have taken months with the current situation so .I switched to this. Thanks for watching.
Sir you are a very talented man, love watching your videos. My D1 is on order and should be here in a couple weeks. I'd like to get started on my enclosure, could you tell me what the dimensions are for your box
Thanks. It's just the size of my D1 inside and about a foot tall at the back. I would wait until it arrives and you figure out how you plan on handling the cables because that can make a big difference. Thanks for watching.
I just bought the standard 1 meter length and kept removing links until the laser cable just fit. Had to extend the motor cable a couple inches. The spot I mounted it was the only place the cabling to the laser didn't need modding. Thanks for watching.
Even with the filter, I want to filter it outside with a hose. If I get a reducer is that fan strong enough to push it safely out a 30 or 35 foot 1.25-inch hose, please?
The Infinity fan will work with a 25 ft 4 inch hose. You will need a high pressure blower for smaller tubing and longer runs. 1.25 hose won't move enough cfm without a very high pressure blower to overcome the static pressure.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 Great answer glad I asked. If the air is already filtered at the Enclosure you mean something like a cheap in line fan about 10 or 15 feet in line down from the filter to give it a "boost" ? rated at 100 cfm or 150 cfm to push the air on out or more cfm I have no idea ? I appreciate your time i would not want my 3year old grandson to get sick on my account
You will need something like a shopvac to use 1.25 tubing and they are not rated to run constantly as many jobs take 6 to 8 hours. The Infinity fan and a short 4 inch run outside works for me and that's all I will use. Anything else you must design and test. Use metal pipe or metal lined hose so you don't develop static that can destroy electronics and shock your grandson. Some plastics create vapors that can kill so do research about the material before burning on it.
Thanks for sharing this inspiring build! What size cable chain did you use? I'd like to add one to mine but not sure which one to get! Thanks for sharing!
In the description of the build video. The x cable needs to be extended and there is only one position it can be mounted in for the laser cable to be long enough. Could also use a smaller one if you don't run air. Thanks for watching.
like I said the x motor cable had an extension added and the laser cable was fine. There is only 1 position the chain can be in for the cabling to work out. Thanks for watching.
Ii am interested in building my own enclosure for my Ortur Laser Master Pro 2. I saw the video on your version of the same unit. However, on this unit you used a different model fan and you did not put a diffuser in. Is there a particular reason? And, also I see you didn't drill as many vent holes and seems like you incorporated them into the side plexiglass panels as well as a few drilled holes in the bottom. Thanks for your time.
I decided to try the new lower cost fan and It works just as good. Same specs just more plastic. Just changed the vents so a long piece can be slid through the sides. The vents across the back are not needed and the baffle gives more even airflow but is not needed from what I am seeing. Thanks for watching.
Great job and thank you for sharing !I thanks to your review I ordered a D1 too and would like to add air assist system. What type of compressor should i get? any refererence? thanks in advance !
I just hooked mine to my shop compressor. It doesn't take a lot of airflow so any compressor will work. Some people use a large nozzle and get away with aquarium pumps also I have been told. Thanks for watching.
I just rough sketch the outlines to cut then make the final changes, adjustments, and holes as I build so the original files are not accurate. I just toss them because it's a waste of time to fix them at the end for me. Thanks for watching.
I don't have any good files. Just roughed out the sides and kept modifying them until they fit. I don't waste time going back and documenting things. It's really easy to work out with cardboard to get exactly what you want. Thanks for watching.
You can't cut clear polycarbonate with a blue laser and if you could the gasses are extremely hazardous. You need a fiber laser for a clean cut in Lexan that thick. Thanks for watching.
That’s a great enclosure. I’m in the middle of begging my brother-in-law to help me build one. Are there any modifications you wish you had done, after using this for a few months? I’m interested in putting in laser safety acrylic rather than clear; pros or cons?
I used clear because I use it in many videos. Should have made it from steel so it's fireproof but I decided to take the cheap way out. Thanks for watching.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 I honestly thought yours was steel when I looked at the first picture before I started the video - that orange paint! I’m leaning towards the orange acrylic, because I will be running this in a room in a shop which has two doorways - but no doors - and I want to protect the eyes of anyone peeking in around curtains. I will also have two dogs in there on occasion, and figure it helps protect them, too. Thanks for your help and the response!
No I can't. I tried setting a business up a couple years back to make things like this to sell but once the lawyer listed the yearly cost of just NY mandates to hire 2 employees I decided not to. NY is just too expensive to start a small business in. Thanks for watching.
Man I wish I was as skilled as you! I was wondering if you have had any problems with the software so far? I have had 2 projects now be ruined because the software just shut down once I was doing the final version...☹ and once that happens I don't think I would ever be able to get the design to line up again. Love watching your videos though!
I haven't had any shutdowns but I switched to lightburn the end of November so I haven't used their software since. If you use lightburn there are excellent instructions on the xtool support page showing how to set it up. Load their setup for the d1 also for the easiest way to get started. It uses the upper lh for the origin and works great. Thanks for watching.
Excellent work, Sir. I’m doing research before designing my own enclosure for my xtool d1 that showed up yesterday. I used it for the first time today and wasnt expecting so much smoke and fumes from the cutting, so it looks like an enclosure is in order. Would you say that the 4” duct fan moved enough air to keep the smoke down? Is there any reason why you didnt opt to go down draft? Once again, nice work, and you have an impressive shop there!
This Infinity fan is overkill and I only use the 2 or 3setting. Fan should be designed to create just a slight vacuum in the enclosure and it doesn't really matter how it flows. I figured updraft would let me open the cover faster. Air intake locations seems to make the biggest difference in how clear the air stays. Thanks for watching.
Thanks. No I never go back and fix the files when done. I rough cut parts then adjust things as I go and add the holes and things. Takes to much time and I just share the ideas. Thanks for watching.
I use high pressure compressed air. There should be an adjustment on the pump. My Dewallie pump has a knob to set it on my new Ortur laser and a flow control for fine tuning. I have no idea what Xtool does to set theirs. Contact them. Thanks for watching.
I enjoy my Prusa so why not an XTool D1? I had no idea about health hazards. It has not shipped yet I bought the St. Patricks day deal they had and all the bells and whistles. I may cancel the order and get a refund. I need to find an enclosure and this may be it. Since you do not profit from this do you have a material list? May not be worth the risk in my house.
Please tell me you’d be willing to make me one of these enclosures?! I have zero tools and even less know-how to build something like this but my D1 is supposed to arrive on Monday. I am using it to mainly cut foam which I’m told has toxic gas released when burned so I need an enclosed. Could you make me one that I could buy from you? I’m in the US, Independence, Kentucky to be exact. Thank you in advance!
Sorry I can't make anything to sell. I tried setting up a business with 2 employees a couple years back but the cost of NY mandates to hire employees was too much so I just share ideas. All the laser fumes are toxic and should be vented outside. Thanks for watching.
Hi friend, I received a comment from you asking the marking product is plain steel or stainless, but for I don't know why this comment is hidden. So reply you here: the pliers are plain steel. :)
Thanks for the reply. It did a nice job marking them with no coatings. I didn't expect that because the blue lasers I use only can engrave bare stainless. It looks like a very nice machine just wish it engraved a slightly larger area. Thanks for watching.
Thanks. Everyone needs some type of enclosure and way to exhaust the toxic fumes they create. I wouldn't be surprised if our government bans the sale of them without an enclosure. Thanks for watching.

Thanks. I am very happy with how it came out. Thanks for watching.
Hello it’s my first time visiting your channel after watching the entire video I didn’t have a choice to subscribe when I see someone with this type of talent I want to make sure I don’t miss out on future projects as well as going back and watching all the videos you have posted I’ve always been into wood working I found your channel when looking for enclosure ideas for my Xtool D1 I’ve been through a lot of videos and your enclosure is by far the best one I’ve seen yet would you happen to have a file for this enclosure if so and you would make it available I would definitely buy the file have a good day and keep up the good work and keep the videos coming I don’t just watch part of these videos I watch the whole video because you never know what you will miss. Thanks for sharing with us
I don't save files. They usually are just rough outs I continue to modify until I get exactly what I want. Get some cardboard and work out your own based on your wants. Thanks for watching.
I see they mention they are working with lightburn which should be out in the near future ! Something you were hoping for Ed.
Another fantastic job too ! You always amaze me with how creative you are, and I can never believe how much you get done ! I'm sure you've found a way to clone yourself :)
I have been told it will work the beginning of December but you never know with how Chinese companies will say anything to get sales. I am hoping by the end of the year. I always have atleast 3 projects started for job security 😉. Thanks for watching.
I am running on lightburn right now. They worked hard to implement it fast and Mine works great now.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 That's great to hear Ed, that was quicker than I expected! Thank you for the update /reply.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 you are able to use light burn with the xtool d1??
@@laurenzeth9704 Yes since the end of November. It works great. Follow the instructions on the xtool support page
Just subbed, very good content, thanks for the tips
Thanks. I hope you find other videos that interest you. Thanks for watching and subbing.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 Is it recommended to install drag chain on the x gantry?
Is there enough room to add additional risers? Mine is come with 2 extra sets.
Not in my enclosure. You should build something taller or with adjustable sides. My rotary doesn't need spacers. Thanks for watching.
Wow.. I need you to build me one of these :P good job.
Thanks. You should give it a try.
Ed, Question - What length cable Chain did you purchase from Amazon for your enclosure. Thanks and great video.
Some plastics create vapors that can kill so do research about the material before burning on it.
great video. question...What was the reasoning for screwing the cabinet and laser together? Pro's/Con's (besides voiding warranty)? awesome build
Just because I wanted to be able to pick it all up together to use on a large surface. Thanks for watching.
Did you have to extend the wires or were they long enough to fit in the chain?
like I said the x motor cable had an extension added and the laser cable was fine.
Do you have the building plans
No I don't waste time making plans. It's easy to work out. Thanks for watching?
Great job and thank you for sharing !I thanks to your review I ordered a D1 too and would like to add air assist system. What type of compressor should i get? any refererence? thanks in advance !
I just hooked mine to my shop compressor. It doesn't take a lot of airflow so any compressor will work. Some people use a large nozzle and get away with aquarium pumps also I have been told. Thanks for watching.
I think I’ve heard you say you don’t make plans so I’m curious how you generate the input to your CNC router.
I just rough sketch the outlines to cut then make the final changes, adjustments, and holes as I build so the original files are not accurate. I just toss them because it's a waste of time to fix them at the end for me. Thanks for watching.
Does the AC Infinity cause vibration when engraving?
No vibration from mine. I usually just run it on number4. Thanks for watching.
Do you make and sale cause I would love to have one like this?
No I am not set up to sell anything. Just sharing ideas and how to think a project like this through. Thanks for watching.
Ed, are you selling the files for the enclosure.
I don't have any good files. Just roughed out the sides and kept modifying them until they fit. I don't waste time going back and documenting things. It's really easy to work out with cardboard to get exactly what you want. Thanks for watching.
Curiosity question...You mentioned being careful with your bit choice when cutting plastics. Why didnt you cut those pieces with the laser instead?
You can't cut clear polycarbonate with a blue laser and if you could the gasses are extremely hazardous. You need a fiber laser for a clean cut in Lexan that thick. Thanks for watching.
Great job! How well does the air assist work? Given such a small nozzle?
Works good so far. It's small but uses high pressure like an air knife.
Amazing job I love 💕 your videos you are so creative thanks for sharing
Thanks so much 😊
Would you be willing to share your plans for this case?
I don't waste time making plans. It's easy to work out with some cardboard. Thanks for watching.
Just ordered my D1. Any chance of you making me an enclosure like that?
Just sharing ideas. Thanks for watching.
Ed are you making and selling the enclosure also?
No I can't. I tried setting a business up a couple years back to make things like this to sell but once the lawyer listed the yearly cost of just NY mandates to hire 2 employees I decided not to. NY is just too expensive to start a small business in. Thanks for watching.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 I know, I live here also. The property taxes alone are insane, I live on Long Island and it's crazy.
Do you have the cnc files from this?
I just delete them when I don't plan on building another so they don't waste space. It's very easy to work out.
@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 Thanks so much for your help!
Thats awesome.. Are u selling the svg file.....
Thanks. No I never go back and fix the files when done. I rough cut parts then adjust things as I go and add the holes and things. Takes to much time and I just share the ideas. Thanks for watching.
I noticed you have an adjustable air assist. Why would you need to adjust it. I just got mine and it only has one setting (got it from xtool)
It's just scrap I had laying around. You can just use it outside until you build an enclosure. Thanks for watching.
Just found it sorry. Hope I have the skill to make it look like yours.
Doesn't matter how it looks as long as it works.
do you sell these ?
Sorry, I can't make anything to sell. Just sharing ideas. Thanks for watching.
you should really consider making and selling this enclosure
Thanks. I am not set up to sell anything. Thanks for watching.
That looks so good! Looks commercially produced. I really need to enclose my laser too. You should be "Ultimate Redneck Hillbilly Creations."
Thanks. Everyone needs some type of enclosure and way to exhaust the toxic fumes they create. I wouldn't be surprised if our government bans the sale of them without an enclosure. Thanks for watching.
You should get the extension for the xtool, then make a new enclosure for it, 😂
Waiting for my D1 pro. Looking at Co2 for larger work. Thanks for watching.
