The shot from 8:05 - 8:15, when they ride out like 8 horsemen with nothing to lose, as their one last "deed", setting all fear aside and facing the enemy with no fear, especially with that epic Rohan music in the background always brings an uncontrollable smile to my face. It's corny as hell, but these movies did those type of moments where the characters display their courage so authentic and inspiring, they always help me feel motivated if I'm feeling down from life. With other movies I may sometimes feel the need to throw a cynic comment or roll my eyes, or just be indifferent, but with these 3 films, it always makes me feel something. This trilogy is 10/10, all three of the films are 10/10.

The one thing that kinda breaks my immersion is, how none of those hundreds of orcs in their path ever thinks of holding out his sword or spear to get their horses. Of course that wouldn't have meant dooming the men (and wouldn't have changed the outcome once the Rohirrim showed up) but it would've at least stopped the advance.

I remember being like 10 or 11 years old when this one came out. It was always around Christmas and my whole family (like 25 of us) would go see it. Right after it started I started feeling like shit. I had a really bad fever and was hallucinating and everything. It was bad. I was trying to suck it up because I wanted to see it so bad but I couldn’t do it. My grandpa was sitting next to me. The best man I’d ever know and he noticed that something was wrong and he scooped me up and took me to the doctor. It’s a good memory with him, besides being the sickest I’ve ever been up till now. lol. A week or so later he took me to see it again so I could actually watch it.

I was around 13-14 at the time and something was really wrong with me. No one could figure it out but it was my anti-epileptic medication rising to dangerously toxic levels. I had fallen in a deep sleep in front of Nana and Grandad's fire and I remember him picking me up and carrying me down the hallway to lay me down in a bed. One of the craziest things about medieval battles is the reinforcements would ride /march for days non stop exhausting themselves just to REACH the battlefield AND THEN the FIGHT would ensue , how badass is that to give everything you’ve got just to reach the battlefield then The hard part starts while your exhausted, but somehow still find the energy to fight on 🫡💪 our ancient ancestors were some mf beasts

Eomer was his nephew and Eowyn his niece. He adopted both of them after his sister's and her husband's death and raised them alongside his son, like his own kids. After Saruman trapped and killed Theodred, Eomer became Theoden's heir. Which is why Grima tried to outlaw him, so Eowyn would become the only legitimate heir and Grima could creep on her to the max, marry her and become the regent of Rohan, basically ruling it.

Why would it be the end of his people? They were just a small force of... Elrond's? elves. Not his entire army, he needed his own warriors to guard his borders, remember, his realm borders Misty Mountains which are still full of orcs and goblins. So Haldir's elves were just a small detachment. And unlike Men, Elves still have an open invitation to sail to Valinor, the de-facto paradise of Middle-Earth, which Men simply can't do. And eventually, all elves did, with special exceptions being made for most of the Fellowship members, including Gimli, who was the only dwarf to ever go to Valinor.
The sad part about Haldir's death was that he was Aragorn's life-long friend, if not his best friend. Which is most likely the biggest reason for him being there.

3:54 Very few people appreciate how brilliant this is:
A ballista is fired with a projectile attached to a limited length rope. The hook at the end of the projectile is pulled by the rope and lands on a surface it can attach to. Instantly, the guys at the bottom start pulling on the rope, and through a system of pulleys, simultaneously drag a ladder up to the top, where the hook is attached. This causes a force to be applied to the hook, so it cant be easily cast off. While the defenders are trying to get the hook loose, a ladder full of soldiers arrives to throw them off.
I swear, Saruman has thought of everything in this battle. From the explosive to blast a hole in the wall, through the easy to use crossbows for his soldiers, to this pulley system.

Only two things needed to win this battle, a longer bridge to the keep, and ride down it periodically with cavalry, I reckon 20-30 times and you can easily win.

Did anyone else catch that quick glimpse of Arwen wearing red and battling on a horse at 9:39? Peter Jackson had written her character into the battle of Helms Deep as well, but decide in the end to cut her scenes. However, that quick shot of her in the background at 9:39 made it into the movie.
