I actually prefer Tarja here on Nemo much more. Very magical, atmosphetic. Feel like your on a boat just sailing off into the horizon on a journey. The band was so magical in the Hartwell arena for this concert. But then, i got into NW in 2003 with Tarja. Her operatic/soprano style vocals were what attracted me. But i love both women. Floor and Tarja.
I think there are some songs in NW that are better with the original singer. Some Tarja songs are not for Floor. No offence to her skills of course but Nemo is for Tarja same with Sleeping Sun. This something I noticed with Story time too and I saw many comments in Reddit about it too. Floors version is harsher and doesn't have the creepiness' that Annette brings to the song.

This is THE song that got me hooked on Nightwish, when the single was released in 2004, my friend showed me the music video on the music channel Kerrang! and that was it. I went home and listened to the album 'Once' over and over and over again, that then made me dive more deeply into their discography and the rest is history. While I do adore Floor's take on this song too, I do happen to prefer Tarja's darker operatic tone, just because of the nostalgia it brings for me and being that brand new fan discovering what was to become my absolute favourite band, ever.
When I think Nightwish, this is the song I think of first. I love Floor on a lot of songs, including several of Tarja era songs. But there's something special about Tarja singing this that is just perfect to me. And oddly, some of my favorite live performances of Annette are her stripped down versions of this song. They were just interesting. But for me, nothing comes close to Tarja singing this.
"Phantom of the opera" is a must for not just Tarja, but some awesome Marco vocals. A few personal favorites from that era are "Planet Hell" and "Slaying the Dreamer"
I love all three vocalists for different songs. Some they all song well but I do have a special place for Tarja singing Nemo. This and the Siren are very Tarja songs. As for 'Annette' songs. Scaretale and Ghost River really exploit her ability to slide and twist her notes that Floor and Tarja don't really do. So seeing how you've done GR my vote is for scaretale.
Original is original. Oh how I love this song. Even though I wasn't a fan at the time, this song was always in the back of my mind.This beautiful, mysterious, enchanting song that is NEMO that eventually made me a fan in the year of 2019.I'm late, late, late.But better late than never. I love the look of Tarja.That dress is perfect for her majestic voice.I wish I would have been there at the concert.Looks magical ♥
Last I checked, the official music video is on NW's page. IIRC, it's either the same as the album or very close, I haven't listened to the album in a long while.
Love that you FINALLY got around to Nemo, also glad you left it for a while. Although I prefer the studio version this is a special performance given what happens afterwards... Great insights as always. 🤟👍
While on the End of Era concert how about "High hopes" sung by Marco next. I'm just love the fact that I have different version of my favorite song by Tarja and Floor.

It sounds like a "song song" rather than a composition because Tuomas was intentionally trying to write a radio-friendly song. He said it was one of the hardest things he had to do because that's just not how he writes, but I guess he must have been pressured by the label. Still, he managed to come up with a great song that in fact opened a lot of doors for them.
Everyone has complained about the editing of "End of an Era".... It does make it very difficult to watch, but all you have to do is close your eyes and let the music take you!!
I always wonder what was going through their minds during this show. Tarja was dismissed immediately after it. Like, less than an hour after this song was performed, she was out. They all look like the same "family" as they always do, but everyone other than Tarja knows what is going to happen after the show.
I bet they were mainly just determined to give it all. During the show there are little hints here and there, small gestures that could be interpreted as "shit this is it, it's going down'.
Yes, the interaction between Tarja and Marco during Phantom, and Tarja and Emppu walking off with arms around each other's shoulder during Ghost Love Score -- they knowing and she unaware. I cannot watch this concert without wondering too.
Which is why they had to give this show their all - to give Tarja the send-off she was going to have. To give her - at least in the eyes of the fans - that last unforgettable farewell performance. Think about it this way: It was the opposite of what 90s bands like Oasis did, with the Gallagher brothers absolutely hating each other to where the band performed, but one bother didn't want to be on stage with the other that he just sat in his own box seat, which was a downer for their fans.
@@himbo754 I was in that concert. During it, I found myself wondering (at certain points) "Why do they appear so cold towards her - as if she was a total stranger?" Well, I got my answer once I got home from the venue. The entire Finnish news media was all over it! This was what I hated the guys for the most: Taking advantage of her ignorance about what was about go down right after the show. She giving her very best before her home audience - for no future.
Hey Chase! Thank you for another great reaction. This song (as many others will probably tell you) was the one that made me fall in love with Nightwish. While Floor is a phenomenal singer I will simp for at the drop of as dime, Tarja era Nightwish will always hold a special place in my heart, it always puts a smile on my face to see reactors recognize each singer's contributions.
I enjoyed Annette's voice more when she's not in NW anymore tbh. She has nice pop voice that has metal influence, Which makes me enjoy both world of genre

The first thing that makes me always choose Nightwish live videos over Nightwish recordings is that their musicianship is fenomenal. The second reason is that they always change bits and pieces and make things interesting live!
Next song I recommend by Nightwish and Tarja is “Swanheart”, live; soulful and emotional vocals. In my opinion, trying to compare Tarja and Floor is absolutely nonsense; mostly is a matter of taste.
Pf, no it's a matter of recognizing musical skill. Tarja never practised with the band *and you can really really really hear it live, she is not very good*. She's not shit, no, but she definitely lacks. Or lacked... It's a long time ago now and ppl do improve over time IF they practise.

Nemo was the first song I heard from Nightwish. They had a performance on a TV show and I thought the combination of Tarja's voice and the metal music was brilliant. I bought the album "Once" the same day and after listening to it once 🙃, I ordered everything else Nightwish had released until then. And since then I love this band more than any other. Thanks for the review of "my" first Nightwish song!
Re: being comfortable and that having an effect on the music - I know just what you mean. Many (many) years ago, I played in a ceilidh band at weddings and birthdays and so on. You could feel the difference that the audience made: if they just wanted to sit down and drink, it was a real struggle to play and everything felt flat (as in dull, not ♭), but if they were up and dancing, it was an absolute joy and the music sounded great.
I like Nemo, it is just a very well written song. Chase, if you want to see/hear how early Nightwish was like, check them out at Live Lista Chart TV 1999. It is good remastered quality that throws you back to the days when Nightwish were newcomers. And have a damn good day too.
Maybe it's time for some Anette? Honestly I never liked her, I stopped listening to NW (my fav band) when she joined, after a couple of songs I was like "what? for real? hell no" but more recently, more open minded, I listened to some more and I quite like her in Scaretale, her voice really fits the song. Scaretale is Anette's song... she did an AMAZING job on that one... even though I think she's nightwish's worst singer, I do like her and think not even Floor can do better some of her songs (scaretale and ghost river are prime examples imo).

One of my favourites! I agree with you about the video production though. It's very early 2000s - feels dated and hard to watch. But the music is perfect. The music video for this one with Tarja was one of the very first Nightwish songs I ever heard. Simple, catchy and cinematic - I fell in love.
From Tarja's era, my favorite is I Wish I Had an Angel. From Anette's era, Bye Bye Beautiful is probably my favorite Marco song. I usually go for the music videos, though - does anyone know what the best live versions are?

Chase, you and I started down the Nightwish rabbit-hole at about the same time. I started there from collaborations with other bands I was listening to - Tarja with Within Temptation on "Paradise" and Marco with Delain on "The Gathering" (both worth a look...). This summer, maybe 90% of the music I've listened to or watched has been Nightwish, and it's been great to have such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide as yourself! Can't wait to see them live some time soon(ish). Hope you'll get the chance to react to "Alpenglow" (from Wembley) soon - it's a real feel-good song, as Floor herself says in her intro. "Nemo" is probably my favourite Tarja song (along with Sleeping Sun) but you should also look at the live and acoustic versions with Floor. Not necessarily better, just different. And please keep these reactions coming - they're a highlight of my Saturday mornings!
I would if I did not know the definition of the word better I'd call her being so happy now vs what happened after the end of the show. I am sure she was quite upset. Being fired, while sick. Yep, she had a cold during the show. What a trooper, she sang anyway. Tarja is a natural performer. You can see then and now she sings because she wants to. There is a official music video for this song with great SFX.

I know I'm so late to this video, but I'm really pleased to see more people reacting to Tarja and this song specifically. I saw a reaction of Floor sing it earlier today for the first time and I really didn't like it, and I love me some Floor. That might be because I heard this version first, probably 10 years ago, and I still love it!
Empu’s phrasings are amazing... he can shred when he wants but he can just sustain and vibrato just enough to make one note sound like 19 - makes it look effortless and easy.

Just realised something: As you haven't done anything yet with Anette, there is one song with her that, composition wise, will be for you like opening of a box of candy: The Scaretale. Either the music video, or there is an official live version. The song is.... a bit special. I've seen some comments comparing it to watching Nightmare Before Christmas or The Beetlejuice. You'll see what I mean if you ever decide to react to it, or just watch it on your own 😊.
Nemo is the song that got me into Nightwish so it will always be special. At that time I thought of metal as mainly noise, so it was a quite gentle introduction, but boy have I learned since then :-)
You should watch nemo with floor now (just for yourself or you can react we will like anything you do 😛) live at Wembley to see all the stuff that is different. It’s fun to see both styles back to back. And they just added Troy in the song and it’s like he has always been there 🤷🏼♀️ crazy how they make that work. Also, if I didn’t already have a little crush on tuomas I would get it after this video, oh how I would love to just spend an afternoon sitting quietly in the corner of the room while listening to him play the piano! All those riffs we all know so well but played like he does this one in the first few moments of the song, with so much feeling in it. Love it!
How comfortable they are with each other the stage and the crowd can easily be seen by the choice of clothing they wear. I mean, so many bands and musicians use their clothing style as part of their act. But looking at Nightwish, Marco and Emppu in particular and the others as well, they always look more casual than anything. As if their choice of clothing is based around the thought of "Is it comfortable to wear?". And the thing is, it doesn't matter. Even in their newer productions which have a much more strict build up they still look casual. And it works. They don't have to put up an act or anything. On another Note (note, because this is a music video? Yes? Okay.) about Tarja wearing red. Red is an interesting color to wear. As primary clothing this is actually not seen often. This has to do with the impression a red clothing piece does. You automatically focus your attention to it. Shy people don't usually wear red. Someone who wears red wants (subconsciously) to be looked at. That is why a red dress worn properly is so stunning to us. And it is clearly noticable if a red piece of clothing doesn't fit. It looks off really, really fast. This said, it takes a specific kind of person to wear a completely red coat/dress on a stage. There is no hiding then. Obviously, it already needs a specific kind of person to sing as main singer on the stage. You are the main focus of the crowd. And Tarja looks completely comfortable in her clothes. Be it this red one, or the extremely visible yellow one. And no, there is no shame in that, it is just an interesting thing. It is like a 6 year old boy wearing a pink scarf all the time. (I work with children, and there is this boy. And when he is told by the others that pink is a "girls" color, he simply says "no" and is done with it. Which is an interesting thing for his age. The level self-confidence needed to just do this cannot be underestimated. How many adults won't ever wear pink because they don't want others to think they are gay? And it is this stupid. But point is, this boy knows that he will get reactions on his pink scarf. And he does not want to avoid these kind of reactions.) Funny, this is the first time I wrote about clothes and what the type of clothing musicians wear implies beneath a music video.
I wouldn't say this is the "definitive" Tarja song. Most well known, probably. She actually sings this less classically on the album version. She started to mix in a pop-ish style on the Once album.

This comment sounds really dumb after I've typed it out, but I only got into Nightwish circa 2012, right when Floor started to take over. My favorite part about watching live videos from the Tarja era are how handsome Emppu and Marco are with their blond locks. I mostly know them as a "bard and Viking" (complete with wizard, pirate, Valkyrie, and druid), and they are obviously still stunning nowadays, but seeing the blond in their hair just makes me super happy.
This song was the thing back in the days. Here in Germany it unexpectedly made it's way into television. I've been to an indoor concert and there even were a lot of elders in the seated ranks. My dad then said about me: "A few years ago he said Nightwish is the thing and now they are number one." ~ The album ranked number one in the german charts, got tripple gold and remained in the charts for 39 weeks.
You know what? I often said "stop being sorry", but actually: don't stop. I love your "actually, I am not sorry". 😂 any progress on the t-shirt? 😁 I already saw "Sleeping Sun" in the comments, but another beautiful Tarja song that is more on the mellow side is "Walking in the Air". When it comes to Annette I REALLY hope you do "Rest Calm" and "Scaretale (there is a cool unofficial video with a mix of scenes of the Imaginaerum movie and live footage and the studio sound)". love the first one but I think the second is my favorite Annette song. and perfect for Halloween. And she nails the slower songs like "The Crow, the Owl and the Dove" and the one live performance of her I like "Slow, Love, Slow". But I am one of those people who strongly prefer her on the studio recordings. For me there are two reasons: there are simply not many good (official) live videos of her and I always get the feeling she can't keep up with the instruments live. but that's just my personal opinion and doesn't seem to be a problem in the studio. And I really wanna thank you for always explaining what Emppu does and for pointing out how good he actually is. some people don't get that because he plays in such a tasteful way rather than just shredding. what he could do if he wanted to.
Me contrary i love her lives,i love to watch her to communicate with the audience , to joking to dancing to move into the scene and very good chemistry with the other members of NW. She is a very good performer, people love her she can't sung all the Tarja's songs perfect and that's normal because she has not that scills like Tarja but in her songs she was always perfect. Tuomas knew that from the beginning but he wanted to make amazing albums with Annete and he doesn't care about the way who Annete singing Tarja's songs. But i tell you the truth,i like some Annete's cover. I always like her way who singing siren , acoustic Nemo version, sacrament of wilderness, come cover me and especially higher than hope,i like more than Tarja's version, it's so emotional always. Yes Annete has no official videos from NW but she has a lot from festivals. Exit festival Serbia, Gambel,Wercher, Wacken, Lowlands and so many lives, i found great quality videos.

Tarja got fired less than 30 minutes later. Regarding the editing, it was the 90's. Someone thought this was cool back then. The dress: Tarja changed quite a few times during this show, and the mike changed to a matching colour. If I recall correctly, it was 6 outfits, but I may be forgetting one. Nemo is indeed one of their more mainstream and most successful songs. One of the things that Nightwish do, is that they record a song and then they go on a tour to perfect it. That is why they sound better live. The songs are getting tinkered with, simplified or flourished, with touches added throughout. It is interesting to see how this happens, and it is most profound in the songs that had a few years to mature. You may wish (for your own enjoyment) to check out more recent or older versions of the songs you react to, to spot the little differences and the effect they have. An example from the top of my mind is in Ghost Love Score, that final high note at the end, does not exist in the version of the song sung in this concert by Tarja. I really enjoyed your take on a song from this era, and I would encourage you to keep at it. There are a lot of iconic band-defining songs from the Tarja period, and I am sure you would be happy to check them out.
Well it was actually 2005, but your point still stands, editing choices are appropriate with the era they were from. They saw all those features and decided they want them all in one show😅
This is one of those songs that I feel Floor does better. Tarja pronouncing the word Ever "Eeeever" too many times just annoys me (she gets it right in the end, but too late)
Thanks for another great video, Chase! Now, let me tell you that, like for many others, this song was my introduction to Nightwish. The official music video did pretty well in MTV Brasil and that’s how I started my NW journey. For this song I would have recomended that version instead of the live one, actually. And now I will go probably against what most NW fans say here and recomend you try to avoid EOAE. Aside from High Hopes, Phantom Of The Opera and The Siren, I don't recomend it to anyone. Yes, it's certainly the best live recording with Tarja 'video quality wise'. However, as you noticed the editing is WEIRD as hell and sometimes can really take you off; and Tarja isn't even at her best moment imho. But the worst of it for me is the strained vibe among the band members. It's just unsettling to watch the heavy look on Tuomas' face at some points and Marco trying to keep it up. There’s a point in the concert that Tuomas covers his face up to cry, the whole thing is just unconfortable if you ask me. If you want to see the band performing live with Tarja I strongly recomend you go for the 'From Wishes To Eternity' videos. It's their first live release and it's great to see young NW in the first years of their career. It's a very modest production in a small venue, there’s no Marco (a huge downside i know) and I think there’s no hq versions on youtube but the raw talent and energy is worth it. And the performances are simply great, really. Give it a try if you want to delve into NW's origins and early years! :)

When I think Nightwish, this is the song I think of first. I love Floor on a lot of songs, including several of Tarja era songs. But there's something special about Tarja singing this that is just perfect to me. And oddly, some of my favorite live performances of Annette are her stripped down versions of this song. They were just interesting. But for me, nothing comes close to Tarja singing this.
"Phantom of the opera" is a must for not just Tarja, but some awesome Marco vocals. A few personal favorites from that era are "Planet Hell" and "Slaying the Dreamer"

I love all three vocalists for different songs. Some they all song well but I do have a special place for Tarja singing Nemo. This and the Siren are very Tarja songs.
As for 'Annette' songs. Scaretale and Ghost River really exploit her ability to slide and twist her notes that Floor and Tarja don't really do. So seeing how you've done GR my vote is for scaretale.

This is the most emotional and genuine Nemo there is. And the official video...for me it is still the best video they have made.
I like the studio version of this song most. Because this is a dark song, both Tarja and Floor on stage loose this dark feeling.
Last I checked, the official music video is on NW's page. IIRC, it's either the same as the album or very close, I haven't listened to the album in a long while.

It sounds like a "song song" rather than a composition because Tuomas was intentionally trying to write a radio-friendly song. He said it was one of the hardest things he had to do because that's just not how he writes, but I guess he must have been pressured by the label. Still, he managed to come up with a great song that in fact opened a lot of doors for them.
Everyone has complained about the editing of "End of an Era".... It does make it very difficult to watch, but all you have to do is close your eyes and let the music take you!!
I always wonder what was going through their minds during this show. Tarja was dismissed immediately after it. Like, less than an hour after this song was performed, she was out. They all look like the same "family" as they always do, but everyone other than Tarja knows what is going to happen after the show.
I bet they were mainly just determined to give it all. During the show there are little hints here and there, small gestures that could be interpreted as "shit this is it, it's going down'.
Yes, the interaction between Tarja and Marco during Phantom, and Tarja and Emppu walking off with arms around each other's shoulder during Ghost Love Score -- they knowing and she unaware. I cannot watch this concert without wondering too.
Which is why they had to give this show their all - to give Tarja the send-off she was going to have. To give her - at least in the eyes of the fans - that last unforgettable farewell performance. Think about it this way: It was the opposite of what 90s bands like Oasis did, with the Gallagher brothers absolutely hating each other to where the band performed, but one bother didn't want to be on stage with the other that he just sat in his own box seat, which was a downer for their fans.

Well, I got my answer once I got home from the venue. The entire Finnish news media was all over it!

Hey Chase! Thank you for another great reaction. This song (as many others will probably tell you) was the one that made me fall in love with Nightwish. While Floor is a phenomenal singer I will simp for at the drop of as dime, Tarja era Nightwish will always hold a special place in my heart, it always puts a smile on my face to see reactors recognize each singer's contributions.
Tarja's flavor of English pronunciation is particularly noticeable in this slower, less operatic song.

The first thing that makes me always choose Nightwish live videos over Nightwish recordings is that their musicianship is fenomenal. The second reason is that they always change bits and pieces and make things interesting live!

Pf, no it's a matter of recognizing musical skill. Tarja never practised with the band *and you can really really really hear it live, she is not very good*. She's not shit, no, but she definitely lacks. Or lacked... It's a long time ago now and ppl do improve over time IF they practise.

Nemo was the first song I heard from Nightwish. They had a performance on a TV show and I thought the combination of Tarja's voice and the metal music was brilliant. I bought the album "Once" the same day and after listening to it once 🙃, I ordered everything else Nightwish had released until then. And since then I love this band more than any other. Thanks for the review of "my" first Nightwish song!

Re: being comfortable and that having an effect on the music - I know just what you mean. Many (many) years ago, I played in a ceilidh band at weddings and birthdays and so on. You could feel the difference that the audience made: if they just wanted to sit down and drink, it was a real struggle to play and everything felt flat (as in dull, not ♭), but if they were up and dancing, it was an absolute joy and the music sounded great.

Honestly I never liked her, I stopped listening to NW (my fav band) when she joined, after a couple of songs I was like "what? for real? hell no" but more recently, more open minded, I listened to some more and I quite like her in Scaretale, her voice really fits the song. Scaretale is Anette's song... she did an AMAZING job on that one... even though I think she's nightwish's worst singer, I do like her and think not even Floor can do better some of her songs (scaretale and ghost river are prime examples imo).

One of my favourites! I agree with you about the video production though. It's very early 2000s - feels dated and hard to watch. But the music is perfect. The music video for this one with Tarja was one of the very first Nightwish songs I ever heard. Simple, catchy and cinematic - I fell in love.

Chase, you and I started down the Nightwish rabbit-hole at about the same time. I started there from collaborations with other bands I was listening to - Tarja with Within Temptation on "Paradise" and Marco with Delain on "The Gathering" (both worth a look...). This summer, maybe 90% of the music I've listened to or watched has been Nightwish, and it's been great to have such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide as yourself! Can't wait to see them live some time soon(ish). Hope you'll get the chance to react to "Alpenglow" (from Wembley) soon - it's a real feel-good song, as Floor herself says in her intro. "Nemo" is probably my favourite Tarja song (along with Sleeping Sun) but you should also look at the live and acoustic versions with Floor. Not necessarily better, just different. And please keep these reactions coming - they're a highlight of my Saturday mornings!
I would if I did not know the definition of the word better I'd call her being so happy now vs what happened after the end of the show. I am sure she was quite upset. Being fired, while sick. Yep, she had a cold during the show. What a trooper, she sang anyway. Tarja is a natural performer. You can see then and now she sings because she wants to. There is a official music video for this song with great SFX.

I saw a reaction of Floor sing it earlier today for the first time and I really didn't like it, and I love me some Floor. Just realised something: As you haven't done anything yet with Anette, there is one song with her that, composition wise, will be for you like opening of a box of candy: The Scaretale. Either the music video, or there is an official live version. The song is.... a bit special. I've seen some comments comparing it to watching Nightmare Before Christmas or The Beetlejuice. Nemo is the song that got me into Nightwish so it will always be special. At that time I thought of metal as mainly noise, so it was a quite gentle introduction, but boy have I learned since then :-)
You should watch nemo with floor now (just for yourself or you can react we will like anything you do 😛) live at Wembley to see all the stuff that is different. It’s fun to see both styles back to back. And they just added Troy in the song and it’s like he has always been there 🤷🏼♀️ crazy how they make that work. Also, if I didn’t already have a little crush on tuomas I would get it after this video, oh how I would love to just spend an afternoon sitting quietly in the corner of the room while listening to him play the piano! All those riffs we all know so well but played like he does this one in the first few moments of the song, with so much feeling in it. Love it!
How comfortable they are with each other the stage and the crowd can easily be seen by the choice of clothing they wear. I mean, so many bands and musicians use their clothing style as part of their act.
But looking at Nightwish, Marco and Emppu in particular and the others as well, they always look more casual than anything. As if their choice of clothing is based around the thought of "Is it comfortable to wear?". And the thing is, it doesn't matter. Even in their newer productions which have a much more strict build up they still look casual.
And it works. They don't have to put up an act or anything.
On another Note (note, because this is a music video? Yes? Okay.) about Tarja wearing red. Red is an interesting color to wear. As primary clothing this is actually not seen often. This has to do with the impression a red clothing piece does. You automatically focus your attention to it. Shy people don't usually wear red. Someone who wears red wants (subconsciously) to be looked at. That is why a red dress worn properly is so stunning to us. And it is clearly noticable if a red piece of clothing doesn't fit. It looks off really, really fast.
This said, it takes a specific kind of person to wear a completely red coat/dress on a stage. There is no hiding then. Obviously, it already needs a specific kind of person to sing as main singer on the stage. You are the main focus of the crowd. And Tarja looks completely comfortable in her clothes. Be it this red one, or the extremely visible yellow one.
And no, there is no shame in that, it is just an interesting thing. It is like a 6 year old boy wearing a pink scarf all the time. (I work with children, and there is this boy. And when he is told by the others that pink is a "girls" color, he simply says "no" and is done with it. Which is an interesting thing for his age. The level self-confidence needed to just do this cannot be underestimated. How many adults won't ever wear pink because they don't want others to think they are gay? And it is this stupid. But point is, this boy knows that he will get reactions on his pink scarf. And he does not want to avoid these kind of reactions.)
Funny, this is the first time I wrote about clothes and what the type of clothing musicians wear implies beneath a music video.
I wouldn't say this is the "definitive" Tarja song. Most well known, probably. She actually sings this less classically on the album version. She started to mix in a pop-ish style on the Once album.

This comment sounds really dumb after I've typed it out, but I only got into Nightwish circa 2012, right when Floor started to take over. My favorite part about watching live videos from the Tarja era are how handsome Emppu and Marco are with their blond locks. I mostly know them as a "bard and Viking" (complete with wizard, pirate, Valkyrie, and druid), and they are obviously still stunning nowadays, but seeing the blond in their hair just makes me super happy.

This song was the thing back in the days. Here in Germany it unexpectedly made it's way into television. I've been to an indoor concert and there even were a lot of elders in the seated ranks. My dad then said about me: "A few years ago he said Nightwish is the thing and now they are number one." ~ The album ranked number one in the german charts, got tripple gold and remained in the charts for 39 weeks.

When it comes to Annette I REALLY hope you do "Rest Calm" and "Scaretale (there is a cool unofficial video with a mix of scenes of the Imaginaerum movie and live footage and the studio sound)". love the first one but I think the second is my favorite Annette song. and perfect for Halloween.
And she nails the slower songs like "The Crow, the Owl and the Dove" and the one live performance of her I like "Slow, Love, Slow". But I am one of those people who strongly prefer her on the studio recordings. For me there are two reasons: there are simply not many good (official) live videos of her and I always get the feeling she can't keep up with the instruments live. but that's just my personal opinion and doesn't seem to be a problem in the studio.
And I really wanna thank you for always explaining what Emppu does and for pointing out how good he actually is. some people don't get that because he plays in such a tasteful way rather than just shredding. what he could do if he wanted to.

She is a very good performer, people love her she can't sung all the Tarja's songs perfect and that's normal because she has not that scills like Tarja but in her songs she was always perfect.
Tuomas knew that from the beginning but he wanted to make amazing albums with Annete and he doesn't care about the way who Annete singing Tarja's songs.

Regarding the editing, it was the 90's. Someone thought this was cool back then.
The dress: Tarja changed quite a few times during this show, and the mike changed to a matching colour. If I recall correctly, it was 6 outfits, but I may be forgetting one.
Nemo is indeed one of their more mainstream and most successful songs.
One of the things that Nightwish do, is that they record a song and then they go on a tour to perfect it. That is why they sound better live. The songs are getting tinkered with, simplified or flourished, with touches added throughout. It is interesting to see how this happens, and it is most profound in the songs that had a few years to mature. You may wish (for your own enjoyment) to check out more recent or older versions of the songs you react to, to spot the little differences and the effect they have. An example from the top of my mind is in Ghost Love Score, that final high note at the end, does not exist in the version of the song sung in this concert by Tarja.
I really enjoyed your take on a song from this era, and I would encourage you to keep at it. There are a lot of iconic band-defining songs from the Tarja period, and I am sure you would be happy to check them out.

This is one of those songs that I feel Floor does better. Tarja pronouncing the word Ever "Eeeever" too many times just annoys me (she gets it right in the end, but too late)

Thanks for another great video, Chase! Now, let me tell you that, like for many others, this song was my introduction to Nightwish. The official music video did pretty well in MTV Brasil and that’s how I started my NW journey. For this song I would have recomended that version instead of the live one, actually. And now I will go probably against what most NW fans say here and recomend you try to avoid EOAE. Aside from High Hopes, Phantom Of The Opera and The Siren, I don't recomend it to anyone. Yes, it's certainly the best live recording with Tarja 'video quality wise'. However, as you noticed the editing is WEIRD as hell and sometimes can really take you off; and Tarja isn't even at her best moment imho. But the worst of it for me is the strained vibe among the band members. It's just unsettling to watch the heavy look on Tuomas' face at some points and Marco trying to keep it up. There’s a point in the concert that Tuomas covers his face up to cry, the whole thing is just unconfortable if you ask me. If you want to see the band performing live with Tarja I strongly recomend you go for the 'From Wishes To Eternity' videos. It's their first live release and it's great to see young NW in the first years of their career. It's a very modest production in a small venue, there’s no Marco (a huge downside i know) and I think there’s no hq versions on youtube but the raw talent and energy is worth it. And the performances are simply great, really. Give it a try if you want to delve into NW's origins and early years! :)

Nemo was my first love, what got me into Nightwish when I was just about 12 years old ages ago... Btw I'd love to see your analysis of Weak Fantasy, it's quite special.
My first metal concert was 2004 Nightwish together with Sonata Arctica...still stuck in that rabbit hole and I find more and more branches going ever deeper ^^
