This song was before the poet and the pendulum on the setlist thus Floor going to Tuomas in the end of the song and singing "conquering the darkest places" for him! :) Just a little detail to add.
17:52 Since you asked: This was totally deliberate and is the coolest part of the song in my opinion, because this shift comes so suddenly and goes full throttle, catching you by surprise after the rather calm part before it. It's even more pronounced in the studio version!

Tuomas likes to do key changes for dramatic effect. Usually 3 steps up and many times he steps back down to the original key. I think this is what is occurring in this song. Your theory is probably better than mine? Love this reaction and analysis. Trolls are so annoying! Why don't they just go to some other reactor and find what they are looking for instead of give negative stupid comments? Why bother? If you go through life commenting on everything you don't like there would be no time left to do and see things you do like! Miserable idiots! Peace out, Have a damn good day Chase.
Imagine listening to this song in the album order, where it was this song, an instrumental (The Eyes of Sharbat Gula - you should listen to that one at some point), and The Greatest Show on Earth to close. The "We were here" hits you so much harder that way.
Oh! The look on her face as she sings to him "conquering the darkest places!" You are so right! Her vocal skills are astounding, but it is her passion and emotion in what she sings that truly makes her great.
If you’re wanting more Troy then I’d recommend the epic instrumental that is “Last of the wilds” (Wacken version) from the Dark Passion Play album, or more recently “My Walden” (Vehicle of spirit Wembley version) from the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album, both have big folk vibes like Harvest 😊 It’s also worth checking out Troy and Tuomos’ other band called Auri 😌
Hearing this soft, sweet melodic singing of “We were here” line with TGSOE performance in mind brings me to tears. No lie. PS: I guessed the correct number of pauses; looking forward to receiving the air drum kit. TY

That "jarring" change has actually always been played that way. I like the way it gives you this little kick in the stomach (in the best possible way). Uhh... no, I'm not a musical masochist...
Nice to see that interaction of Floor and Tuomas near the end of the song. Chase, did you notice what she was singing to Tuomas at 19:35? Do you know what was the next song in the set? Coincidence?
Finally! 😁 This is my happy thought, my happy song, my magic fairy dust that makes me fly! If I'm having a bad day or feeling low this always picks me up and put a smile on my face. ❤️😆

Magic does indeed exist Chase and both Nightwish with Floor (for me) and your reactions are magical. Thank you for the gold nuggets that your pauses provide that greatly help bring the magic in to clearer focus. Paul - Nightwish Army UK Division 👍😍😊
The not-so-accidental moment at the end is one of the most memorable moments for me at Himos 2016, Floor in the spotlight with whisperlike vocals and then BOOM, the whole band joining to conquer the darkest places! EPIC 👊
For more Troy, you can also check out "The Carpenter" from the Buenos Aires concert. It's a song from way back in the first album, and Troy takes over for Tuomas, who actually sang the male lead originally.
Thanks Chase! As the winner of the air drum kit I can tell you it has been driving my neighbours crazy this last month and a half almost. They got particularly annoyed over X-mas when I drummed along to the entire Tampere and Wembley shows but I told them to direct all their complaints to you. Hope you don't mind ;)
We Were Here. I love these three words so much. So simple, but such a powerful statement. To hear it sung so sweetly here and then so powerfully in The Greatest Show On Earth, it gets me every time.
Yes! I finally caught up with all your other Nightwish reactions you did and can finally watch them live now! I don't really comment a lot but i wanted to tell you, that i have an incredible amount of respct for you. How you are able to hear so many little things in your first listen amazed me! Because of you I started to listen to Nightwish and other music more intensely and intently again. Keep going like that! I'll be off now to watch all your other reactions. Until Saturday :)
Great analysis as always. I have to say I was giggling a bit throughout as I had my YT closed caption on lol. It does not always get the words you are saying right and everytime you said Emppu, it put Emporer lolol. I think he would prefer that to the Hobbit personally, and from this day for me, he will be the Emporer! :D
This was my pre-Harvest happy song, one of my early favourites. They have so much great songs, for all kind of moods, I can't choose anymore, love them all. Whatever song you pick for next week, it will be awesome. And I Hope.... but you know that ;-)
I just love the positive vibe of the song. The band didn’t over play anything and Floor didn’t over sing anything... they all just kept to what the song needed ... and it’s a great song.
So many of their songs have tie ins to other songs. This one has, as you pointed out, the call out to TGSoE, but it also calls out to My Walden with "making a Walden of our own". And the phrase "meadows of heaven" , a song from Dark Passion Play is used in multiple songs. It seems like Toumas constantly ties their songs together, even across albums.
I started watching your channel after recently stumbling across your collab with Julia Nilon, and hoooly crap, and I glad I did. Your analyses are always so thorough and it's truly incredible how much you catch on a first listen. Your reactions are so wonderful, and it's truly a joy to see you nerd out or look at the camera with a "did that really just happen" face. Thank you for making these awesome videos. Fun fact: "Alpenglow" was performed right before "Poet and the Pendulum" at Wembley. They knew exactly what they were doing, playing such an upbeat, happy song right before the most intensely emotional song in the set. Also, for more Troy, "My Walden" from the Wembley show is also Troy-heavy and absolutely delightful.
I just love your Nightwish reactions! I'm just discovering them through your channel! They've officially become my favorite band too, so thank you so very much! They've got some of the most Beautiful music I've ever heard!

Love, love, love that sudden change of pace. I see it like going from 1'st gear nice and slow enjoying the ride to sudenly shifting gear and being knocked back in the seat while the song drives you full throttle into the sunset. Would almost say i get the same rush like from a roller-coaster suddenly sending you off from a standstill
For some reason I rarely seek out listening to Nightwish, but I genuinely enjoy pretty much every song of theirs you react to. Congrats on 40k and keep it rolling. Hope to see 100k sometime in 2021!
@@ChaseCarneson I'll keep fingers crossed for you that the concert happens as scheduled. I was due to see them again in 4 weeks time in Cardiff, but that's had to be postponed. I'm now going to see them on 1st May in Birmingham. My dream/fantasy is that they are touring South Africa when I'm there next July / August and I get to see them there too.
This song... Look at the lyrics and you’ll see it’s about remembering those who’ve passed and remembering that we’re all mortal. I’ve had too many friends pass away lately, but this does bring comfort. This was a fun one. So happy you did this. And congrats on 40k, more than deserved. An thanks for teaching me to listen NW differently after all these years. I thought I knew these songs, nope.
I enjoy this so much. Nightwish-saturday is the One video i'm waiting for all week long and you allways delivers a really good reaction Chase, big ups for your consitensy 💜 and for more Troy I would really recommend My Walden ord Last of the Woods. Have A Damn Good Day and #love🖤 to all of you fantastic people here.
Ahhh Chase, thank you my good man :-) To say I had a garbage week is an understatement and me looking forward to Wed. and Sat to see yourself and Tank "doing the damn thing" ;-) was key for me. Think I'm off to watch the Wacken or Wimbley concert again for a pick me up! Respect and appreciation from Canada again.
Great analysis and insights as always Chase! This is the only place where I can learn new ways to appreciate favourite songs, making a 4:48 video last for over 21 minutes, whilst still keeping it engaging with knowledge! Brilliant!
There’s some good suggestions here already for more Troy-related Nightwish magic, but i haven’t seen ‘elvenjig/elvenpath‘ mentioned - the Buenos Aires version kicks ass! also, thanks for another great reaction!!
I'm going to say that it was a deliberate key change, based upon the fact that Floor was right on the note when the change occurred...if it had been an accidental slide, there would have been SOME kind of hint of that with Floor's vocals.
Great reaction Chase! I love this song so much it always makes me smile, I think it has something to do with the rising synth/strings in the background of the song. Toumas has gone on record as saying this is just a pure 'Nightwish' song. It's placement in this concert is interesting as it was immediately followed by Poet. Floor heading over to Toumas during the lyric 'conquering the darkest places' has special meaning in that context. My husband initially said the title of this song sounded like an advert for Alpen cereal bars 'Have you got the alpenglow?' which always makes me giggle a bit whenever I hear the song now! Re: 17:52 and the sudden key change, that's deliberate, it's in the original recording and it's a really good shift live if you know it's coming. And we did, you can see me and my friends in the first shot of the crowd in this video, My husband's the one with the Sabaton wristband. The 'We were here' impacted my husband so much that he got a special patch printed with it on so he could put it on his patch jacket (it was also across the shoulders of the tour T-shirt). You commented on Marco's vocals but note: Troy is also singing there too, he throws a lower register to the vocal that enriches Marco. If you're after more Troy check out: 1. My Walden - I have a special place in my heart for the Wembley (Search My Walden Vehicle of Spirit Live at Wembley (2015)) performance because Troy's preamble was adorable and he's done it at every Wembley gig since. The look on his face - Nightwish 2. The last of the wilds (Waken 2013) for what I like to think of as Troy's audition piece, it's fully instrumental and was recorded before he officially joined the band. 3. While your lips are still red. Wembley - Troy using a E-bow! 4. Edema Ruh (Sadly no live version that's worth anything) for more Troy and Toumas nerding out about Patrick Rothfuss.
Thank you for another great reaction Chase! It's crazy how much I've learned from every little pause and explanation you made. I feel that I can appreciate Nightwish in a different way now after 12+ years of listening to them. I can't thank you enough!
If you want more Troy then My Walden is an obvious choice for the next song. But if you want to move a little further away from the Nightwish sound you know and towards a different Nightwish sound then the acoustic version of How's the Heart is worth considering. That is Troy on acoustic guitar and Floor of vocals and nothing else.
The key change is on the album version. The drums and bass came in a bar earlier here in the live version, though, whereas on the album they came in at the same time as the key change. So glad to see this song, as it was never part of the setlist when I saw them live!
Nightwish doing Nightwish things and Chase doing Chase things - both of them heavily enjoyed and appreciated 💣💥 And that ending Floor-Tuomas playful moment, you mentioned is really priceless ❤️
It's such a great song. Whenever I feel less this song kicks my ass in happy mode. Or at least gets my gears moving! Again nice reaction Chase always a pleasure to see you enjoying yourself!
Chase again another insightful and interesting reaction to this epic band keep up the rather marvelous work you and tank are without a doubt the best reactor's to watch on UA-cam not just for my favourite band Nightwish but for all the other bands .please don't ever feel discouraged by the negative feedback and the troll's.. thanks once again for making me have a damn good day.. greetings from England 🏴🤘🤘🤘👍
Great reaction! Just keeping a tally of the Wacken Concert you haven't done yet: wish I had angel, Nemo (I know you did Tarja, but floors is very good), Last ride of the day, Last of the wilds (I think you'll really like this), bless the child, she is my sin, and amaranth. They are all great! If you want more of troy, definitely last of the wilds from Wacken 2013. Troy is pretty heavily used in that one.
That last note you were talking about Chase was not accidental because it is the same on the studio track :) guess Tuomas threw it in there as a surprise like we know he is fond of doing :)
I love your reactions. What impresses me most is how you're able to note "opportunities for improvement" in so easy going a way. I don't care for reactors that don't go "hm" when they see/hear something isn't "quite right".
@@ChaseCarneson felt the same way at first but once you know its coming you kinda look forward to it. Im used to it now and I cant imagine another way to finish that buildup without being a carbon copy of the earlier choruses.. which is a Nightwish nono
@@iliagharibashvili748 The whole song Whoever Brings the Night was written by Emppu. But only the guitar _riffs_ and the guitar solo on Alpenglown were written by Emppu. ^_^ I was only talking about the guitar parts, not the whole song. :)
They did the happiest song from Nightwish. Floor asked, "You feel better?" And then immediately after, they did the saddest song. The Poet And The Pendulum. It was like a kick in the nuts with that high and then shoot right back down. And then they followed up with Nemo and it was happy again. Like, geez.
Is that the signature EV-1? Oh wait...getting my channels mixed up 😳😅 Thank you for always making my Saturday morning tea time the highlight of my week! 🙏🏼🥰
Ah, fantastic! I've been wanting you to get to this one for a while now. Like Floor says at the beginning, it just makes you feel good! And it was a great way to prepare the crowd for Poet and the Pendulum which followed it.
Credit to Chase's feeling and knowledge of music: this is the 4th Nightwish video I'm watching in a row, and everytime he pauses and reverts to the beginning just the very second before the first verse. Identifying the duration of a song intro: check.
This is definitely a feel good song. Floor is absolutely right about that one. Song makes you feel good, seeing the band having the time of their life makes you feel good. And after this uplifting, positive song, what song was next on the setlist? That's right, Poet and the Pendulum. Maybe their darkest and serious song of their discography. Just find that a bit "funny".
Trying hard to figure why the two thumbs down. Is the pause too long perhaps? Is it an anxiety attack thinking about the intro music? Are they perhaps feeling cheated that they did not get here first? Ah I know, its his right index finger when he pretends to be left handed - I say FAKE You practiced this pose before Chaseface, this is NOT a first time pose.😲

Great analysis and insights as always Chase! This is the only place where I can learn new ways to appreciate favourite songs, making a 4:48 video last for over 21 minutes, whilst still keeping it engaging with knowledge! Brilliant!
Thank you, Sunny! 👌🙏🙏
Empu gave the gesture to Troy because Troy messed up (but corrected fast).
You're right.. I've never seen Tuomas smile so much as he does since Floor joined. Chemistry.. it's there.
The thing about Nightwish, is that from 1 song to the next, the songs are so different, can't get bored.
Nightwish - Creek Mary's Blood !!
Live, End of an Era !!
If you're after more Troy check out:
1. My Walden - I have a special place in my heart for the Wembley (Search My Walden Vehicle of Spirit Live at Wembley (2015)) performance because Troy's preamble was adorable and he's done it at every Wembley gig since. The look on his face - Nightwish
Thank you for the pause appreciation! ⏸️⏸️⏸️😂
the music of this song is very strong and uplifting nature some whimsical and mystical elements quite divine
Bet that sudden keychange took you by surprise. It certainly did me first time I heard it
If you want more Troy then My Walden is an obvious choice for the next song. But if you want to move a little further away from the Nightwish sound you know and towards a different Nightwish sound then the acoustic version of How's the Heart is worth considering. That is Troy on acoustic guitar and Floor of vocals and nothing else.
He actually already did that when he did a double video for the lyric and live versions, but you’re not wrong 😊
@@parrotheadlasvegas My mistake, I watch too many reactions, if that is possible, and mixed them up.
The key change is on the album version. The drums and bass came in a bar earlier here in the live version, though, whereas on the album they came in at the same time as the key change. So glad to see this song, as it was never part of the setlist when I saw them live!
10th Man Down (Buenos Aires) is a must! An old song reimagined.
Nightwish doing Nightwish things and Chase doing Chase things - both of them heavily enjoyed and appreciated 💣💥
And that ending Floor-Tuomas playful moment, you mentioned is really priceless ❤️
👌 😂🙏
Thank you, Andrew! 🤘🤘🤘
Fun fact, they played Poet and the Pedulum right after this one. Bring the mood up, then bring it waaaaay down haha
Congrats on the 40K. Well deserved!
Thank you! 🥳🥳🥳
As a trombone player, great comment about the power of wind players! Another great reaction. Not surprised:)
🎺👌 All the power! 💨
No accident on the key change, it's the same as in studio
Seems jarring. Still doesn't feel right but will listen to the album version first
@@ChaseCarneson Key change masters...supposed to feel sudden and jarring
@@ChaseCarneson Key change on the up-beat? Awesome way to do it - and they prepared it earlier via Kai...
@@ChaseCarneson felt the same way at first but once you know its coming you kinda look forward to it. Im used to it now and I cant imagine another way to finish that buildup without being a carbon copy of the earlier choruses.. which is a Nightwish nono
Love the foreshadowing of The Greatest Show on Earth with the graphic and lyric "We were here"
Great song when we got to hear it
Congrats to 40k subscribers Chase. Keep up the good work.
🥳🥳🥳 I will!
If I'm not mistaken, Emppu wrote all the guitars on this song. He always writes his own solos, but this time he wrote the riffs too! :)
Whoever Brings the Night is written all by Emppu
@@iliagharibashvili748 The whole song Whoever Brings the Night was written by Emppu. But only the guitar _riffs_ and the guitar solo on Alpenglown were written by Emppu. ^_^
I was only talking about the guitar parts, not the whole song. :)
They did the happiest song from Nightwish. Floor asked, "You feel better?" And then immediately after, they did the saddest song. The Poet And The Pendulum. It was like a kick in the nuts with that high and then shoot right back down. And then they followed up with Nemo and it was happy again. Like, geez.
I always thought that key change was fully intentional. At least I always heard it that way.
Nightwish Only three US cities in 2021 Lowell, MA 10-7-2021 Tickets on sale now.
Is that the signature EV-1?
Oh wait...getting my channels mixed up 😳😅
Thank you for always making my Saturday morning tea time the highlight of my week! 🙏🏼🥰
😂😂😂 Thank you for enjoying!
@DanteLee88 🤣🤣🤣
4 (or 5) pauses before the singing part.....I like this guy!!
⏸️🙋🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Ah, fantastic! I've been wanting you to get to this one for a while now. Like Floor says at the beginning, it just makes you feel good! And it was a great way to prepare the crowd for Poet and the Pendulum which followed it.
Good timing hearing this today. Laid up feeling crappy waiting on a COVID test. Thanks Chase!
Another great reaction!! Thank you sir.👍 The key change was intentional. It's in the studio version as well.
40K!!! Yeeeeeaaaaaayyyyyy!!! Congratulations Chase! With a sprinkle of Alpenglow happiness on top!
Stay the king! 🎧🎼📣⏸👑🤘🏻

Love when the flute comes in to surprise you my man. Of course another great reaction 🤘❤️
Beautifull song....amazing Nightwish....the queen Floor Jansen Nightwish Army🔥🤘
I am sorry but I did not notice any accident in 17:53. Maybe I need new headphones or do I ?
Great reaction. The key change is on purpose. This song was one of the hardest to get into for me. Love it dough :)
