First raced scrambles at Sturgis in 1968. Scrambles track was at the base of the hillclimb. Raced short track, hillclimb and later motocross there as well.
@tedecker3792 nice! Very fun town to grow up in with the rally and racing. That half mile at the fairgrounds was crazy fast!! I tore up our grass with a pw80 than moved to Colorado high desert and it was unbelievably fun to jump and trail ride. Raced supercross And motocross for 15 years and got paralyzed in 2012 and 2013 was the happiest I've been in my life after a reset and getting spiritual and really connected to nature and all! Life is wild like that! 👍🏻🤙🏻
mees riding dirty again/still. He should have been DQ'd like so many times before. I'll be glad when Shaheen retires, green flag hasn't even dropped and he's already screaming like an idiot.
TT racing has been around longer than Motocross. Check out the Peoria TT . Henry Wiles won the Peoria TT a still-record 14 consecutive years, surpassing the 13 in a row by Chris Carr, nicknamed "Prince of Peoria."
I thought they were building a new Flat Track in Sturgis last year but rain Delays kept if from being finished before Rally week? The racing looks intense. Lots of concrete barriers.. Rough in the dirt sections. Dirt on your tires would make the pavement slick. Some Dude cut Meese off going into a turn. Meese had nowhere to go. He ran over the rider who cut him off, but his air bag vest was inflated so I doubt it hurt him any much . My friend crashed with another rider in motocross the other guy got up and tried to take off, but my friends arm was caught in the other dudes rear spokes..
Mees should Have been DQed for that incident but oh no he gets away with another cheat. Just like Daytona in 19 where he crashed and then another crash created a red flag, and somehow Mees was on the pole for a restart. People in the stands were howling about that.
Flattrack bikes have raced on pavement a lot, there was a whole series for it. The Superbikers were glorified flattrack bikes. Its not the first time. Watching guys go sideways on pavement? Why not, racing is racing. AFT trying something different is not a disaster. Sturgis enforcing a curfew and having to cancel heat races? That was a kind of disaster. To have a million drunks on Harleys in Sturgis for a week, but cant run a scheduled race past dark. A pussy move.
Had I been in the Hills I surely would have gone to these races, but that's a very unusual layout for TT racing. Part dirt, part concrete? TT entails right-hand turns as well as the usual left-hand, but it appears there's only one on this track--a size constriction? The TT jump is also very mild and low (contrast Ascot) but again, maybe that's a size problem.
Mees? What can you say? Hes a long time professional, but couldnt tell there was no room to pass. Then he runs over the guy's head. It was a "racing incident". There is racing and then there is Mees. I get it he wants to win at all costs, sometimes you gotta admit your getting smoked and stop knocking people down.
(came to see what Adventure track is, clicked on street flt track race, sees rider that purposely RODE over another rider's upper body back in the race after restart, decides to back and see what happened in MotoAmerica instead)
There are 75 year old guys racing flattrack, and older. Get the bike and go! Hospitals have MUCH better equipment now, emergency rooms arent like they used to be when I was racing. Getting run over at age 50 or 60 or 70 takes on a whole new meaning.
The US has supermoto, professional supermoto specialist Bronson Pearce is in the singles race and is acknowledged as a supermoto rider. This is the only mixed-surface race of the year. A track like the Springfield Mile is nothing like this.

I guess i cant comment. Who builds these tracks, plans the series, approves absolute poop like this? Concrete barriers?? I dont have time to list how bad all of this is.
This sport will NEVER grow until the AMA decides to give these guys tracks that let them hang it out and get sideways. This is incredibly BORING racing. It has been for years. The tracks usually have dirt that's fit for a sprint car, not motorcycles.
The "fans" of flattrack seem to want AFT to circle the drain. Wont be anybody promoting pro flattrack if AFT doesnt do it. Everybody, and I mean everybody said Baggers were stupid and would never work. Now its multi million dollar racing that fans love.
The day that Mees retires the sport will grow.
Just one more note , for a Newbee. All Flagmen have the very exciting job of waving the flags in the middle of the tracks, everywhere I've been.
TT flat track is bad ass.
