It got me to look up Little Caesar's to see how old the company was (1959), and it put me in the mood for pizza. Since I don't have a Little Caesar's around me, I got Dominos instead.
I don't think I've ever hated a kid character as much as Susan. I like to believe that Ceasar was setting her up to fall even harder than Johnathan for the murder of Aunt Agnes. It's my catharsis for this episode.
One time when I was a kid, I woke up around a bit after 4AM for some reason. I turned on the TV and starting flipping through channels. I landed on a black and white that looked enticing to me. I stopped and watched. It was The Twilight Zone and it was this episode (only saw the last 5 minutes though). It was immediately followed by The Masks. I remember telling my dad it was like Goosebumps with Night of the Living Dummy and The Haunted Mask being my comparisons.
Jackie Cooper was one of the original Rascals from the Our Gang shorts before Spanky and Alfalfa. Not just a child actor. He was an excellent child star that spanned almost his entire life starting at 7 up until the early 90’s. Nearly 70 years of work that spanned across generations in and out of the Twilight Zone
My interpretation of the ending is that Caesar was setting up Susan in the same way He set up Jonathan and that He isn't actually intending to help Her at all.
Possibly, but there is a big catch to that plan, unlike Johnathan, Susan is NOT a nice person. Plus, she KNOWS what happened to the last guy and that Caesar is a manipulative individual. Caesar may want to TRY to double cross Susan, but he's going to have a much harder time of it, especially without blowing the fact he's alive to the general public. Plus, he's finally found a kindred spirit, someone as nasty as he is. Why ruin that? He may be alive, but he's still a dummy, his needs are not that complex (as far as we know, he doesn't need to eat, or sleep, or anything like that.) Let him have a nicer place to stay, and nice clothes, and he basically has his needs and wants covered. He may like money, but there is only so much he personally can spend it on.
I struggling to deal with the fact that this - is it. No Bat May. No more Twilight Tober. We have an exceptional talent generating content that truly stands out and is brilliant. Every episode I watch makes me realize just how much time and effort is put into it. I don't think Channel Awesome realizes what they have in him. I do.

Susan is so diabolically conniving, that she would make Rhoda from "The Bad Seed" shake in fear. Never have I hated a little girl character more, though it's largely thanks to the performance of child actress, Susanne Cupito.
That's exactly the comparison I would make. At close to the same time, she'd get to play a really NICE little girl in the OUTER LIMITS episode "The Inheritors."
The sad reality is a lot of good intention people get screwed over by evil. Watchers of the Twilight Zone needed to understand that. Bad folks will sell you out and leave you to take the full blame. Also may influence the youth into doing bad things too. A harsh lesson but a semi-realistic one if one replaces Ceasar with a gang leader. I think the episode works for what the lesson is because it is a needed one. Mr. Rogers got mad at hearing news that a kid murdered his little sister because he was bored. That's Susan. Bratty for no reason other than pettiness and the need to make others suffer. They exist.
@@ianr.navahuber2195 It was awhile ago but he was talking about news articles he saw and that one stood out to me. He also had a segment where he asked children why someone would become a murderer. I miss that frankness about him. Able to discuss tough topics but not being too graphic.

Your comment about the dummy reminding you of Scarface makes sense given West acts like Wesker the Ventriloquist from Batman with girl acting as the second one.
On a TZ message board that I used to read years ago, a poster once said that they could imagine a sequel to this episode where Caesar and Susan meet up with Talky Tina and Christy from “Living Doll” (after offing the Mom from that episode) and go on a crime spree.
I know a lot of people don’t like this episode, but I loved it my first watch. I love how in this living dummy story, you actually SEE the dummy living for most of the story and not just near the end. Perfectly creepy.
While not in the same league as "The Dummy", which is understandable given that that one's Rpd writing in top form. "Caesar and Me" is still pretty entertaining. My favorite part, worth the price of admission, is at the end after Susan rats out Jonathan and the police arrest him, when Caesar starts a hilarious conversatopm with her: _"Come over here, honey. I know you finked on him. You're a hip little kid. I like you."_ And she's receptive to his criminal plans. So satisfyingly warped!

Just throwing it hear because it isn't the first time Columbo and Twilight Zone crossed over as Jackie Cooper to me is best known as Nelson Hayward - the political candidate who offs his campaign manager. Great actor.
The original Caesar dummy actually appeared in one episode of 2019 incarnation of TZ in the background. It was rented by Copperfield to the production in return for his work and museum being mentioned in some manner in the episode itself. Therefore, it still belongs to David Copperfield.
Two out of three ain't bad. The premise may fall short, but the performances and existence of the normal fantasy element (Caesar is alive!) rise well above the plot.

I hope you found work. I felt the same way during that scene. I was unemployed 2 separate times for a total of 6 months during 2024 because I got screwed over at jobs. I ended up finding work to hold me over for now. But man I remember the long summer days where the unemployment felt endless and I would go apply to jobs online and drive all over to look for work in person. Nobody wants to hire or pay a good wage. Nobody wants to even treat you humanely when you are down in the dumps. I hope the new year finds you well
