The most epic, beautiful, performance of Mission in the Rain I have ever heard. The entire show is outstanding the boys were firing on all cylinders..BRAVO! RIP Jerry, John, Nicky
Never get tired of watching this video Thank you VooDoola ..i will come again... Listened to this show on cassette tape for decades...and now i can watch the video ..blows my mind everytime
I went to both shows this night.. In fact most of the time JGB came to the Capitol there was an early and late show which for many of us was just a really long single show with a nice break between sets!! We would all pile into the old Heidleberg Bar behind the Capitol between shows!! Great memories. Thanks for posting this and please keep doing so.
Thank you Voo !!! The sacred vault has opened up to you for sure.... what a public service you are providing to us all.... this past week has been extraordinary with all of these new JGB shows ~ to watch these recent uploads, and hear the "Promontory Rider" ...(which I first heard as filler on one of my first GD bootlegs cassettes in 1981) is amazing. Who knew 34 years later - Voodoonola would play the same role as the cool older Brother, with all of the good recordings, and share Jerry's music with the world....but now through videos on UA-cam!!! I never knew how happy Jerry looked back then. What a treat to see him sway & smile so much. It's no secret that he liked playing with his "bar band" more than his role in the GD by now ..and you can just feel the joy in his performance, a man in his natural element, playing freestyle, improvising, and working his magic.... expressing himself in that signature /original sound he created ....What a legacy of LOVE he left us all to still share, and relish in..... GOD bless you Voo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! I was listening to this show while working around the house and when Promontory Rider really got going it sure grabbed my attention! This is a true gem of a show.
Absolute total joy to finally watch this concert which I have listened to a hundred times. The greatest lyricist and guitarist on stage together. Tears of joy.
what an american treasure ;:). mr john kahn !!!!! did u know he actually found a young hawaiin kid to play guitar for the JGB in 1996..... i think they did one show at Catalyst in santa cruz..... i coiuld be wrong about that one.... John passed 1 yr after jerry..... when i die, i am gonna go watch them all day !!!!!
That was a lot of fun. Promotory Rider also I have so much more appreciation for Robert Hunters contributions as I get wiser and older. I just have to bow in thanks and respect.
"Some folks would be happy, just to have one dream come true" Voodoonola you have made one of my dreams come true!! Never thought I'd be able to see & share these Videos!!! You are a kind soul!!! Thank You.... 9:49 Wow!!!!
I love the fact that Jerry doesn't fight for headroom.. nor others or himself.. he truly represents "The snake that eats its tail..." as he so eloquently put it at the Playboy Mansion in '69.
The sound quality and video quality are just out of this world, as well as the band's performance on this tour. Read up on the drummer, Johnny D's, history, if you can find it. Interesting tale. The kid learned to play drums just hanging out in Mickey's barn. He did not live long past these shows.
Thanks Voodoonola2!!!...=•)) '80's were some smokin' years for both JGB and Dead or even some Merle and Jerry. Jerry is especially hot at this gig. Thanks again for the tasty kine uploads. I am still blown away by the 7-9-77 Asbury Park jam. That "Harder They Come" is cookin' on high.......=•)) Peace....
Also I’ve been loving Kahn much more while going down A rabbit hole of 76 jgb and the Keystones, the last 2 months. Every show special in it’s own way.
Unfortunately that was the year Dad died, but I just turned 66 & that show blew me away, great place capital theater. Hard to believe watching video now,Amazing!.
This band arrangement is my absolute favorite! The steady drumwork of John D. and the gripping tones of Ollie Alers! Plus Garcia seemed soulfully relaxed in this era. Simple sweet song catalog, somes songs we would never hear again in later versions of JGB
Priceless video from an amazing period of the JGB. This drummer really laid down a great groove. So sad that he passed away so young. RIP. (Thanks for the upload.)
He is so darn good! Give this one a listen. Especially the Positively 4th Street. Ozzie tears it up! ua-cam.com/video/qXVxUpN645o/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ElaineOliveira
stellar performance no doubt, but you might be better of saying "your personal favorite". ranking art is too subjective....beauty is in the eyes of the beholder after all. cheers.
@@Greg-go8ep true, that’s the thing with jerry and the dead, every phase of life you find a version which completely knocks you off all over again and you’re left in utter awe, as if you heard it for the first time. I guess that’s the magic of the dead and jerry if nothing less than a prophet with a guitar
Oh my god thanks so much i been searching this for years! I love how jerry got this fiercer style of playing in 1980 - almost like he was influenced by punk rock or something but better anyway i fucking love it
I was in Denver and lucky enough to see the Weir and Bros sound check this month. CRAZY FINGERS practice for 30 minutes... Some sing blue... And some shine true my brother.
so cool to see Jer. being the guitarist for robert.. i was so lucky to see a few of those hunter extravaganzers in the early 80s up in seattle... they were very magical experiences...
his dear prudences just slayed... i remember one at the stone in Berkeley... when he was comin back from one of his episodes... it was transcedental perfection... i was dancin on top of a table.... the cop was smokinn weed at the stage door... we were dancin and ready for more...
The best This show I picked up in Flagstaff AZ Working at Northern Arizona University from a cat I worked with at North Dining in 1995 - that sad year many folks gathered at Jerry’s Vigil
This fkn place rocked. I spent more time at the Capitol as a teen than in school. There is a show I can't find made mention of anywhere. It was billed as Sounds of San Francisco and was filmed by MTV. It was Greg Kihn Band warming up for Bob Weir Band. It was a General Admission show.
oh hell yeah.. if you ever get yer hands on 11 29 94 I was in the front row and I never seen any footage... what you put out is truly spectacular... tiger was so shiny and new lookin in this one!! THANK YOU

Mission in the rain is the most beautiful song ever written.
It just is one of the most beautiful songs ever written ♥
can't argue with that
Absolutely..
Easily one of the saddest songs ever written.
Song is off the charts. Beyond
An absolute MONSTER of a mission in the rain. Brought the house down
Yes indeedy
This is about as spectacularly vintage as it gets.

The whole show was epic. Jerry was on point in 1980-82
Killer Mission!!
i think it is Ozzie on Keys and Johnny on Drums?
I saw this configuration about one week beforehand at Rutgers.
Give the 3/18/1978 from Capital theater NJ a listen
Robert Hunter is so awesome!!!!!
Thank You for sharing this Voodoonola. It brings back great memories and is nice to watch as well :)
Robert Hunter was an epic boss. rest in peace

starting around 17:39 - great key solo by Ozzie Ahlers! I love this concert - still listening.
Jerry was the best at delivering these songs Mission In The Rain, Stella Blue, Broke Down Palace the list is long. No one got away with it like Jerry!
A really great guitar player on a badass guitar
The good ole Capitol. That was our “Home Field”. These shows were some of the best!
