You know, this guy performed on stage almost every night of his life, maybe Garcia missed 2 shows, in almost 30 yrs? Despite what they did, there ain't nobody out there that can do what Garcia did. In remembrance for performing almost every day in his life, year in year out for almost 30 years, Garcia should be congratulated, patted on the back , for doing something so uniquely unusual in the world of Performing Arts ; dag! for determination, alone! ........
This is my background music today at the psych hospital while I do med pass. More therapeutic for the patients than 24 hour news , wouldn't you agree? :D
You sir are the real MVP! I used to bump Reckoning (GD acoustic album) working third shift at a gas station years ago.. it'd always surprise me who recognized the Dead playing over the radio... customers loved it
Brother we all have to take a turn to have a holiday at the crazy house. And brother the dead is what we all need.Hope you are doing well my dead friend.Love and peace and respect to you and yours
Sir Garcia played the guitar as if the instrument was the natural extension of two of his appendages and my-o my-o nothing left to do but smile smile smile
Don't think I've seen ANY VIDEO from the seventies, besides the GD movie, Jerry is literally bubbling with excitement, beebopping the entire show and tearing up every tune.
Was in the house. When it became clear that the encore was going to be NFA, a certain pandemonium broke out among the hadcore 'heads. Think it is the only time Jerry sang the lead vocals for it in concert. Not sure what possessed him to break that out that particular night...
So much life in these four musicians -- so much communication and rapport -- and I keep thinking how sad it is that Jerry, John Kahn, and Keith Godchaux were all gone before the turn of the century; Ron Tutt is the only one still with us in 2021. I feel so blessed to have been able to see the Jerry Garcia Band (and that other band Jerry played with) in the Seventies.
I was fortunate to listen to the JGB at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach in 73 as a teenager in a bar and also Old and in the Way at UCSB isla Vista in Santa Barbara in 74 opening for the Dead festival seating everyone dancin and swriling in a colorful sea of joy❤

Early show was magic also. This was my backyard and remember getting into late show giving the guy at the door my early show stub and 10 bucks and he let me slide
Being a 17 yr old North Jersey boy in 1977, how did I miss hitting this one in Asbury? Ughhhh… Must of been distracted by work and summer. Love seeing Jerry when he grooves and shuffles like he does on Harder. He looks happy, and makes me happy.
I'm a Bergen County New Jersey guy actually Dumont but I didn't start anything till 81 so I was 4 years removed I'm 6 years younger than you and certainly made up for the time with so many Capital Theater Passaic New Jersey jgb early in late shows
i can guess i jave the same reasons for also not being there , and in a few week past this was nine three englishtown that i also missed due to going out with a non dh girl , and that ended that relationship , albeit a wee bit too late
Wow. It must've been bliss seeing Jerry in those intimate clubs...I'm sure it was fun as hell for them also...so many times we 'don't realize what we've got til it's gone.' Can't say it more simply than that.
Outstanding show. Garcia is feeling it. His playing is terrific. The whole band. This is when he had Ron Tutt for a couple years. Just wanted to point out Midnight Moonlight, not the most complex but can be a little tricky on a few of the chord changes, and during Garcia's solo entire band is right there, never missing a change or a beat. Great band. Great songs, great playing. Have to give Keith his due as he's overlooked sometimes. And Kahn terrific too! I could go on and on!
I find myself being reassured when I watch and listen to things like this that show how amazing Jerry Garcia is and how unique, essential and absolutely irreplaceable he is to The Grateful Dead.
Hampton Va. Felt like home opening east coast tours for years. General admission my friends all hung in the lot . I went in alone when tapers went in to set up. 2 or 3 hours later I'm front row gratefully dead center so many times. Best memories
Fantastic show. I just found it. It is so nice to see Jerry happy snd having fun. He does not seem to have the world on his shoulders during this show.
I dk if that is exactly so. I think there are other jgb nfa's.It's the quite possibly longest though. Tutt is almost as cool as kahn here. Lol this is dakine
I don’t have a book or a laptop open to check on “only JGB NFA”, but I just found this yesterday and I’m on my 2nd listen thru. I just remember me listening to Dead tapes in like 87/88/89 that sounded sooooo bad while I was hitting Alpine/Rosemont/Deer Creek/Foxboro/Buffalo/Landover/Charlotte as a teen and now as a middle aged man. I don’t go to many concerts anymore. Maybe 6 a year, but what a joy it is to have shows like this up and upped on other avenues. ❤️
john kahn is a monster !!!!! in a good sense of the word :) every guitarist should be so blessed to have a sidekick like john kahn...... bless his soul, died of a heart attack one year after jerry..... he actually resurected the jgb in 95 for at least one show at the Catalyst in santa cruz, ca..... he had found a young guit man from hawaii to fill in the jerry slot.... :)
one of so many great shows in Asbury Park in the 70s I grew up close by, all kinds of music...the Casino Arena and Convention Hall at either end of the boardwalk...they open the doors midway thru (to let out the smoke?!) see the people dancing along the sand...summer nights on the Jersey Shore what a fun time to be young and alive!
I come back to this day after day after month after year...I agree 'Russian' is just the best, touches my soul, every damn note... rollicking...Take care out there, in the moonlight....🌅✌🙏🇺🇸

Wow! My first Garcia Band show. Word was Keith and Donna had a rift and she left tour for a bit. Made for a unique show. I made a lousy mono audience tape and have been searching for a decent one for nearly 40 years, and now this! I don't recall multiple cameras at show but this is awesome. Thanks Voodoonola whoever you are!.

That's what I love about his music, it just makes the world a better place when you really sit down and hear how he is playing. It's transcendental.🫠
What a great show ! It reminds me when I saw them @ the Music Hall - or Orpheum Theatre (?) in Boston around the same time... Great Job posting this ! I almost forgot about Ozzie Alhers on Keyboard. Thanks!!!
Thank you again Voodonola2 !!! ..... these vids are my lifeblood today- as a teen in the early70s it was the same way, my whole mission was to be at shows- y’all understand....first time I believe I’ve heard this show, “ Russian Lullaby “ probably my favorite JGB piece

Yeah well at least Jerry and the Dead had enough foresight to allow recording of their concerts. There is much more video content than almost any other band.

that lullaby tho
i stand by you on that
There may be arguably better technical guitar players, but Jerry by far has the shortest distance between his heart and his fingers of any of them.
❤❤sweet dreams Texas here you go work will be here need a break from work go man gogoooo
I think Jerry is one of the most technical in my opinion he’s just better than all cause he plays with heart and technicality.
He was very skilled

40 years of listening to Jerry, and I still have moments of awe. An awesome The Harder They Come. John is on.

Jerry was ripping thorough Not fade Away.

NJ has more heads than you could ever imagine. Some of the best shows came out of that area.East coast baby.
I saw the Dead and JGB many time at the Capital theatre in Passaic. There were a lot of Deadheads in the middle and late 70's in N.J.
MsLilyhorse I like the way he played that Travis Bean guitar. I think he lost something when he went to those later custom guitars.
Indeed...JERSEY...🙏😈🇺🇸
hell yeah 😄😃
Raceway Park 77' one of their best shows
this is so sweet! Everyone talks about the amazing Dead shows in 1977 (and they were!), but JGB was just as good during this year.
Sometimes l would prefer it bc he loved it so much. And some dead shows they were just too high.
Jgb shows are tighter and more soulful. ❤
Dead shows were a party,,, JGB was Church .
@@keithgus4947 JGB was everything you would want in a Dead show and less 😉

he was tearing holes in the space/time continuum in the late sixties as well , and at a more finger blistering pace
