How to propagate DRACAENA MARGINATA from cuttings | DRAGON TREE care

- Dracaena is one of the most common plants indoors, due to its beauty.
The optimal time for propagation of the plant is spring.
The cut must be transverse and even.
To reduce the evaporation surface, the leaves are partially removed, and some of the leaves are shortened. For an hour, the cuttings are dried in the air, while they should not be exposed to direct sunlight.
Cuttings are planted into vermiculite, deepening the place of the cut by 2-4 cm.
Then, we provide the recommended care conditions for the plants:
- illumination: diffused sunlight (from 60-80%);
- temperature + (22-27) C;
- frequency of watering - with a slight drying of vermiculite between irrigations;
- the period of root formation is up to three weeks.
Two weeks later, the mother plant developed dormant buds, and the cuttings began to develop roots.
Three weeks after propagation, the roots had fully developed. After that, young plants are transplanted into the soil mixture.
On the mother plant, we remove some of the new buds, leaving the most developed ones, but no more than five pieces. This is to ensure that in the future they do not interfere with each other. And also, the mother plant is transplanted into a larger pot.

Very simple and clear instructions. Thank you so much! I can't wait to see how my plants develop.
Good luck!

Good info. I need to cut the heads off mine as the plant is too tall and gangly as it is 30 years old now! I plan to re-root the heads and give them away.
some people get only one or two dormind buds and here you are cutting them down because you got a dozen :)) life is not fair man :)))
Ничего не понятно
Cool.we just got a 30 year old one that wee need to reduce in height 👍👍
I'm propagating my dragon tree.. and one cutting rotted. So hopefully the other 2 will be successful.

Hi, I have 4 nodes off my main trunk. If I cut 1 node, is it likely to still get buds on the node stump? Or will the tree just focus on the 3 other nodes that haven't been cut?
Its a bit late but my plant developed on the cutted site a new branch. But dont cut it to deep. My other branch just stay with 3 nodes and the old 4. one isn´t growing anymore.
What is the good time to prune and plant cuttings? can it be done now (in January)? TIA.
I would assume the cuttings will work best in sunnier warmer conditions
Please tell about the mixture soil you use.

Hello, I noticed that you had the same problem with the yellow leaf tips, Do you know what caused that? I thought its dying and took all 3 branches off today for propagation
Too bright light (sunburn), low humidity or not enough water.
Its been 1 year but its most likely lower leaf die and grow back in top that how this tree work, pull down the yellow leaf to help grow
No need for rooting hormone?
Probably wouldn't hurt
I wish I had seen this video three weeks ago. I followed some other ladies' advice about pruning my plant and now I'm pretty sure it's dead! 😓
