    It is so gratifying to see someone not wasting the seeds--and you can do this with almost all squashes, like acorn, butternut, cantaloupe. And it is a cute idea to serve them out of the pumpkinette. Bravo, Steve!

      I only recently learned about cantaloupe seeds being good for eating. I think they were grinding them into a powdered topping for another recipe.

    I would have been watching this channel for YEARS if I had found it earlier. Unfortunately I only stumbled upon it today. Spent 3 hours of my hungover day binge watching almost all your videos. Big support

    Wife and I carved pumpkins for the first time in like 7 years... This recipe came out at the best time! Thanks!

    We have always steamed the seeds first then backed them. They always came out crisper

      Do they puff up a lot when you steam them?

    What I liked about your video was the ad-lib. The info in between.. like being able to dry them overnight (as when I carved the pumpkin it was late at night and company wasn't due until the following day) I wanted them freshly roasted as was my first time. So "anything crazy" 4:01 was exactly what I needed. But you should have included how to store them.

    This process is basically how i make mine but i generally just use plain salt , i love super salty pumpkin seeds but man that spice mix you made sounds delicious and i might have to try this

    Never tried eating with the shell. Tried it out + boiling in the beginning and they turned out quite nice.

    I always spice my seeds before I put them in the oven. The flavor dissolves into the oil aromatizing the seeds perfectly. As long as you use spices that don't burn it's the best method (Which is the case here. All the used spiced are also commonly used in indian tempering).

    You should make a grocery shopping video like what you usually eat throughout the week, and what you think are some good picks every time you go to the grocery store, like your staples, sort of like a grocery shopping for dummies I guess. In my case, having just moved out and starting to be on my own, to rely on myself to shop for all the food in my kitchen seems daunting. I would love to hear your opinion on something like this!

    • @NOTANOTHERCOOKINGSHOW
      @NOTANOTHERCOOKINGSHOW  5 років тому +1

      I don’t believe in one stop shopping and shopping for the week. Make sure you have a well stocked pantry, grains pastas canned tomatoes, oils vinegars, sugars, if you’re not in nyc, buy household stuff like paper towels and TP in bulk online of or something. When you want to shop for fresh stuff, so it every 2-3 days. I actually will go out and get everything fresh the day of. Requires a quick trip to pick up a meat and a veggie. Knowing I have some rice or something at home.

    If you season them after they come out of the oven the seasoning doesn’t stick..?

    • @sarzootashoota351
      @sarzootashoota351 3 роки тому

      You gotta cook them again with the seasoning for it to really stick. Oil coverage really matters, toss em in the oil so it coats before it goes back in

    Thanks! My way is pretty much like yours but, I boil them for around 1-2 minutes in soy sauce and water. Dry them out and mix them with dark sesame oil! Roast until crisp.
    Sesame oil is my secret;) soy sauce, gives them perfect saltiness... PEACE!!

    I just made these!!! They were so good!!! 😍 But for some reason quite a few of them popped like popcorn all over my oven 🙄 I wondered if there was any way of avoiding that? (my oven was 200°c maybe too high?)

    • @NOTANOTHERCOOKINGSHOW
      @NOTANOTHERCOOKINGSHOW  5 років тому +1

      Maybe too much oil? Fried them like popcorn maybe?

    • @MultiFreak107
      @MultiFreak107 5 років тому

      It's temperature and moisture. Water Vapor expands as it heats up and makes them pop the outer shell.
      Drying time can vary between different seeds. For Example Hokkaido pumpkins are very thick and need a bit extra time.

    here in europe this is the traditional football game snack :) it is sold all around the stadiums from large bags.
    but I have never seen anyone who would eat the shells.
    You are supposed to peel it with your teeth by cracking the shell and scoop out the seed with your tongue and then spit out the shells :)
