Point of clarification; Aretha only had 30 minutes notice about filling in for Pavrotti!
ARETHA IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME. She sung this operatic number like a hymn. Crazy.
Can we get a video on her rendition of "Moody's Mood"
Whitney houston is the GREATEST VOCALIST OF ALL TIME
This is the #1 Greatest Grammy Moment I think. It’s been brought up many times given how unique it was, surprised folks were, and how Aretha executed it. She’s a consummate pro and also so assured that she probably didn’t care what folks thought. The Queen knows her capabilities.
Yes. This is when she stepped in
The audience got a double dose of both disbelief that this situation could get pulled off and then witness a lifetime memory of that performance live. Incredible with hardly a dry eye to be found
2 days? She had to step in, at the very last minute, in less than an hour since she was already scheduled to present or perform. In an hours time? Bananas. She had performed it two days prior which is why she’s familiar with the material, eventhough it was a different conductor and orchestra. Brilliance!
Yes!!! Not 2 days, but minutes!!!
I booked this date. That violinist over her right shoulder told me that they had practiced with Pavorotti earlier that afternoon. The musicians were shocked when when she appeared on the stage.
@@gordonclare2036Wow!
I remember watching this and bursting into tears. It was a combination of things: the emotion she gave the song, plus she was a Black woman from Detroit singing in Italian and she did it all on short notice! I listen to this song frequently. It’s on most of my playlists. It’s a great Grammy moment and yet another reason why Aretha is the Queen!
No other compares. I just marvel at how the Queen could make you feel a song. As the late great Arthur Mitchell put it “She fused all the genres into a new thing, we call it ARETHA! ❤
She was a genius vocalist. A true master of the craft.
Is this when she stepped in for Luciano Pavarotti? He got ill. If so I saw it live and remember it vividly. I was yelling, "You better sing, Aretha!" My goodness. I met Aretha Franklin at a rest stop in NJ coming from Atlantic City. I saw her, tapped on her limo door, and got her autograph on the back of a taco bell receipt. She was in the middle of eating it when I interrupted her. RIP Aretha Franklin. I love you 🌹
The way I briskly walked out of the Dr’s office waiting room to hear your take on Aretha singing her face on this opera song! Sheesh think I’ll rewatch Aretha Franklin Genius cause that diva was the ish. Oh I’m subscribing too😉
If I’m not mistaken the artist who was supposed to do this performance was ill. So he ask her if she could do it and she did. I saw her talk about that performance I just can’t remember where. Ms. Franklin was a woman to be reckoned with. I absolutely love her. ❤❤❤
Yes! Amen
Classic Soul. I don't remember this as a kid, but I saw it when she first passed and was amazed. (I'm a Detroiter too, we go hard for Retha lol)
All hail the Queen. Only a true musician could step in and totally master this performance. Celine’s and the audience’s reactions is all you need as evidence … such skill! 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Ladies & Gentlemen, The GOAT, Ms. Aretha Franklin 👑
Ms. Areatha is NOT AFRAID! 🔊 👩🏽🎤🎵WHO YOU GONNA CALL? 🎵Ms. Franklin, the Mistress of A-L-L That & More. ☀Thank you for sharing!💚
This Aretha Franklin moment is just another masterpiece she gave us, like many other iconic performances she made across the globe.
She is a force of nature. Truly blessed!
0:58 how low she goes!
It’s incredible how she made this song sound so hymnal and gospel-like.
She put her Aretha touch to it!
It’s hauntingly beautiful!
ITS ABOUT TIME U DID THIS🤎🤎🤎
Facts I been waiting for this
When I tell you the peach fuzz on the tip of my elbows stood up 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽. My Gawd🙏🏽. I had forgotten about that Grammy performance and I felt like I was hearing it for the very first time. Thank you, Jaron. You put a smile on this Auntie’s heart 💜
The peach fuzz on the tip of your elbow? I'm so done😂😂😂
She's the G.O.A.T. for a reason.💯
I remember watching this as a kid and tearing up and at 38 I still tear up her emotion and the way how she made it her own and that note at the end smh gets me every time
I wanna see you do a breakdown of Aretha Franklin’s “Angel” the studio single. It’s such a good song that has had me gripped for months now. I listen to it like twice a day
Love your analysis! You are the G.O.A.T. Your voice and range is amazing.
Thanks so much for analyzing this amazing favorite of mine!
🙂↕️
Truly a transcendent performance. The emotional depth , the sheer power and intensity of her voice is evident in this song ❤ thanks for your excellent performance analysis 🙏🏽
We beautiful black people could sing anything and dance to anything And make it Own amen amen 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
Thanks for this review. It’s one of my favorite live performances that I have on a tape somewhere that I have to stop and listen to whenever I come across it
She's a Queen 👑👑👑
I love your videos! You’re going to go far!!!
I live in Motown. I saw this when it was first broadcast. She is still the Queen of Soul.
Reminds me of when 17 yo Josh Groban stepped in for Andrea Bocelli at the Grammy rehearsal of “The Prayer” with Celine Dion.
Beyoncé is making waves venturing into Country Music. Good for her.
Did you hear Faouzia’s Live performance of her take on “Fur Elise”? I’d love to hear what you have to say about it.
I remember watching this on UA-cam, being obsessed!!!
and as many times as I cry to this performance, I'm STILL crying in between your commentary.
Loved this analysis!
Yes. Witnessed it in real time… she didn’t have ANY notice…just sitting in the audience and asked to fill in since she’d sang this song 2 days prior at a whole other venue, different orchestra, etc. AHHMAZING to watch unfold.
NOT YOU SINGING LIKE THE QUEEN!! 😂🙌🏾
Love your videos. And that. "Not my problem" section at the end? A good philosophy for life tbh.
That performance gave me chills ❤❤❤ Nobody else can do it like Aretha.
I’ve always loved this song. And Aretha sang it! I couldn’t believe it. Loved it
I was WAITING for you to review and break down this MAJESTIC performance! It’s simply breathtaking. 😊 Thank you
Oh Jaron, Right on! AS a pro for 4 decades, healthy singing is healthy singing, no matter the style. Aretha -is the QUEEN! The gliss down is fabulous and so are you, my friend.
At 5:16 It's brilliant the way she sings behind the orchestra, it's such a "gospel" trick! SO brilliant!
The greatest of all time!! Yes 🙌
QUEEN OF SOUL SO 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I just know you had fun with this one.😁
Omg this song gives me chills and her voice just gives me goosebumps 🫶🏾❤️🔥❤️🔥
I remember watching this and reading the reviews the next day. The purists referred to Aretha’s version as Popera or Popopera
Finally
Queen Franklin has always been fearless. And I like a lot of the things you like. I know that If she would have performed this in her prime, she would’ve murdered, cremated and eulogized this song 🔥🔥🔥😂😂😂
I love that you are reviewing this. THIS performance made investigate and become a fan of opera. I love classical now, along with soul.
Oh ❤❤❤❤❤ thank you for this
I love you loving it!
Let me tell you what I love about this channel and these videos... I love that there's a real appreciation and understanding of music as an art and creative expression, as well as the knowledge behind the different vocal stylings. I learn so much from hearing these analyses as someone who is not vocally inclined but has an appreciation for singing and music.
Thanks for teaching us listeners these techniques that these amazing vocalists are executing.
Yes yes yes!! I’ve been waiting for you to do this analysis… I enjoyed it so much! Thank you ❤️❤️
Ive been wanting you to do a reaction to this video for the longest because this is one of my favorite aretha performances ❤️
Beautiful!!!
😎Hey bro, This is Wayne Lewis of the pop/RnB group, "Atlantic Starr". This is one of my all time favorite performances, ever...and the groups as well.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I love what u do. Keep up the good work!🙏🏽🧡💥
Amazing 🥰🔥🔥
My girl. Miss her so much
She was train classically her teacher spoke on a daytime show about teacher her different arias and then she went to studied CLASSICAL piano because she was more of a church jazz contemporary style player.
The single greatest moment on TV
Aretha! *THE* voice . I so love her 😻
It was a stunning performance.
This is where the word "Diva" comes from. There is no other.
When I saw that... anything was a possibility!
Would love to hear you perform this
Just a 🐐 doing, what a 🐐 does 🤷🏾♂️. I think I watch this performance every time I come across it. The greatest! ❤
CAN YOU PLEASE BREAK DOWN CALLIE DAY SINGING Amen??? PLEASEEEEEEEE
Her live 1968 performance of "Night Life" is like a high for me.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 👸🏽👸🏽👸🏽👸🏽
How can I contact you ? You’re the business for real !!!!!! Old school talented ❤
I’m miss her😢
This is one of the reason why I stopped paying classical trombone. I always wanted to make it my own, and everyone wanted me to recreate something from the past.
As i recall Pavarotti had a heart attack 1 or 2 days before Grammys. I vaguely remember that she was asked at the GRAMMYS backstage less than an hour before going on…AND DID NOT KNOW THE LYRICS👈🏽👀
She will always and forever be THE QUEEN 👑
Queen Aretha sang that song.
Jaron, can you react to Evvie? SHE'S AMAZAING. I think there will be quite a lot of things you can point out. She sang in the same show as Vincent, The Four.
And I just wanna say I always enjoy watching your analysis videos, they're fun and informative. Thank you for making such good videos. ❤❤❤
This is probably top 3 Aretha dragging us moments.
Aretha stepped in 45 mins. Literally last min. She was that great.
No one else could do it like this and instantly kill it! The GOAT 🐐
In my mind when she was asked to sing she said, "Well...I am Aretha Franklin so I will do it"😂
We wont see nothing like this again in our lifetime
Day 1: Requesting a vocal analysis of "Ghost of You" by My Chemical Romance
Could you analyze Mariah Carey singing you and I at the BET honors 2003
Can you break down Whitney Houston/Natalie Cole's Bridge Over Troubled Waters FULL VERSION?
i love what you said at 10:31 because i feel like that kind of strictly academic mentality is the main reason classical music has lost popularity. like you're paying for tickets to see an artist perform their art, not a seance 😭
if you know anything about opera, you'd know that "women singing male characters" isn't anything new. So her doing this role wouldn't be a "complete" shock. What was *was* the way she sang it *AND* blew it out of the water! It sounded like she could have made for an interesting take had she ever taken the role of Calaf!
Can you react to Jesse Powell - You 1999 performance from the APOLLO live ❤️🇰🇷
Jaron they asked her to perform 10 minutes before she was suppose to go on he got sick the day off the show
Aretha Franklin can sing. Are you auditioning?
🥹👏🏽I’m such a crybaby
HI JARON M.LEGRAIR
COULD YOU PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH YOUR SOUL WITH SAM COOKE AND THE SOUL STIRRERS GOSPELS AMEN AMEN 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
Alright chyle, can we get more than 2 words out of Aretha before you come in with 100 words?
Ms. Aretha did so that Beyonce would!
Not a big fan to begin with but this particular performance was painful for my ears to listen - they are literally bleeding! She might be good for "Forever and ever" bla bla bla but it's takes self-control to know yourself well enough not to sound ridiculous and pitiful on stage...
Hater!
Yessssssss
