You ain’t NEVER lied! The greatest vocalist ever! Anita Baker said that she wanted to be Rachelle when she grew up😅. Ledisi credits Rachelle as her “everything” and the vocalist that made her who she is and taught her what singing is.

Greatest vocalist ever. I tell people to go listen to her sing “I know You Love Me”, “Nothing has ever felt”(duet with Will Downing), or the live album version of “I’m Special” with the late great George Duke on piano and “I can explain” which is 8 minutes long, and both songs are off of the “Live In Montreaux” at the Montreaux Jazz Festival back in 1995 if not mistaken. I dare anyone to listen to the actual album version of I can explain and understand that it is Rachelle sitting playing piano on that song while hitting those ridiculous notes live and then tell me who’s better at any time in music history. People forget that she is classically trained pianist and I she plays the violin as well. It was said at a performance that Patti LaBelle and Chaka Khan once bowed to her. Anita Baker is on record and video on stage saying she wants to be Rachelle Ferrell when she grows up.🤣 Ledisi says that Rachelle is everything to her and she owed everything to Rachelle and has taught her the most. I went to a Rachelle Ferrell concert at the Wilturn Theater in Los Angeles back in the day were Ledisi was the opening act and they did a duet. Rachelle has always been Ledisi’s teacher, and biggest supporter. Kelly Price says she’s a Rachelle Ferrell groupie and Jill Scott says that no one can touch Rachelle Ferrell. The real singers and real fans of Rachelle know the truth. Rachelle is unmatched and unequaled in her vocal ability and her artistry and she writes and prods all of her material and plays piano on all of her albums and concerts. GOAT……PERIOD!!

Oh my God the first time I saw her was in Berkeley,CA when she first started touring she sang so go my shoes ran off and left me. She is a true gift. They had over book and it was way passed standing room only and because of her gracious voice I was blessed to get free tickets to see the stylistic.

My mother played the "Rachelle Ferrell" album for my ENTIRE childhood so I know this song frontwards and backwards. I never doubt Rachelle's musicality: she plays the guitar, violin, and piano and she graduated Berklee in 1 year. She's something else.

Rachelle is the queen of vocals. To see her live is one of the best shows out there. She will have you on the edge of your seat when she’s hitting those high notes, sounding like a trumpet depending on the song. She’s the artist, artist.

I have never experienced a vocalist who can do what she does. Bobby McFerrin (also one to be analyzed) might be one of the few even in her category. Totally underrated by the larger mass, and I think it’s because some don’t GET what she’s doing with her phenomenal instrument. I laugh whenever anyone talks about mainstream pop or R&B singers as the best vocalists ever or any other superlative term. None of them can touch Rachelle in terms of range and versatility as well as mastering every corner of the voice like she does.

I was so excited to hear your analysis of this song! Even though she is more of a jazz singer, this song was played on the R&B stations. She didn’t get the love and recognition that she deserved. These new “artists” need to pull up a chair and take notes. She actually siiiiinnngggsss as opposed to the sing-song style that we hear today where they’re just basically playing on the microphone and talking over the music. *Carries soapbox off stage.
So...Rachelle performed this like there were three other women singing with her and they all had solo parts! That's how full and variant her sound is in this one setting of singing this one song!

I absolutely love to hear her sing because you never know what amazing thing she is going to do with her voice. I watched a interview with her explaining how she takes care of her voice prior to singing and I start applying it to my voice care. Made a world of difference.

I absolutely adore Rachelle Ferrell. My mother introduced me to her and I was fortunate enough to hear her live in Chicago. She’s most definitely top tier in musicality and vocals. I became all the more intrigued by the what the voice can do from studying her.
