The part that we don't get in game about the chest of grog is you get progressively drunker until you eventually pass out. The first time I found a chest of sorrows I panicked for about a minute until my crewmate picked it up and idled on the ladder. Apparently doing so prevents it from filling the ship, so we were able to safely transport it to a nearby outpost.
You used to be able to dump it on the very end of the bowsprit back when the game first launched and be able to transport it safely as it just cried into the sea but even that's different now. If it's on your ship, your pretty much gonna babysit that thing til you drown, sell it or get fed up and throw it overboard
Your search at the start for a Chest of Sorrow was like my first experience with the Grogomany Event. In an attempt to make the challenge a little easier, me and a crewmate went on a hunt for a Grog Chest so have what amounts to a mobile Grog Keg, since you can fill up your tankard by using them. However, as we did what we could during our search, it wasn't until after we've more-or-less finished all the challenges that we finally found one. A bit of a let down to be sure, but we finished the challenges and had a nice Cursed Chest to turn in for profit!

The videos are as long as I think they need to be. I only like to show what I think enhances the video rather than putting it in there for the sake of filler
I remember being told a story by a crew mate of how he and his friend snuck a pair of chests of sorrow onto a parked galleon. They hid both chests in the crow's nest where the crying wouldn't be heard as easily. Following the galleon from a distance, they found it sank about 10 minutes after they planted the chests. Also had a voyage where we harpooned a Chest of Sorrow aboard, debated keeping it around but ultimately did but eventually just ditched it out of a desire to not baby sit the crying boy. Well seems he got the last laugh as the chest bugged out. Though the chest was gone the crying and water filling stayed with our ship, even an hour after we ditched the original chest.
This was unexpectedly entertaining! Even though you couldn't use the chest to sink a player, it all turned out good enough for a video! Thank you for your story telling, keep it going!
Chest of Sorrow is the one thing that was universally hated ever since launch. For months, people were struggling to find a way to prevent it from flooding the ship, before eventually it was discovered that if someone was holding it while on the ladder to get on the ship, the water wouldn't fill the ship. However, last I heard that method was patched out. (It's been a while since I was involved in any way with SoT)

Hey Cliff, just thought I'd drop some info on you: Skeletons captains on large islands do not give dig maps but instead riddle maps, meaning you cannot get a Cursed chests this way. High level Gold Hoarder dig maps has a chance to contain Chests of Sorrow, they also have a tell, Dig spots on the shores next to water has a higher chance of giving a chest of Sorrow, same goes for maps from Skeleton captains I believe... That said doing the tall tale might have been the more effective route. Chest of Everlasting Sorrow also counts as a Chest of Sorrow for Gold hoarder commendations. Also I was wrong about server hopping with buried treasure btw. The Items buried are apparently server wide, you loose the map when hopping but if you remember where they are buried and no one else digs them up you can still dig them out. No clue if it is a feature or a bug... Good video.
as someone with no chest of sorrows encounters, I’ve already had enough with rage chests, I always volunteer as the fella to constantly splash the rage chest with water and give him a bath in bottom deck so he won’t burn us
Hey Cliff, there’s actually a trick to the skele captains to 100% spawn on every small island you visit. You just need to step on the island for longer than 5 minutes and they will spawn. I know this because I use the small islands to stock up on my journey and I have yet to not be met with a skele captain. Sometime two spawn one after the other, no joke.

I didn't know what it do since I only saw Chest of Rage in that video. On the way to sell it, I had to go through a storm and while I know these rain sometimes fill the ship with water, it feel a bit faster this time, almost late at noticing it too and it got me hella panic. Checked if theres any hole but theres none. Even after I escaped the storm, ship still keep getting filled with water. Was so confused until I heard the crying and the water from it like gawd demmit. This reminds me of a time I was playing with my girlfriend and we were doing an Order of Souls emissary. I had a bit of a stuffy head that day, and so I harpooned the chest onto our ship and then went back to help her finish up the quest. We got the infamous "ship sunk, emissary status lost!" text about three minutes later, and I was confused for a moment before I remembered... and proceeded to feel like the biggest idiot this world has ever seen! Needless to say, she was very disappointed! XD But, I learned two good lessons that day. One: never play with a headache. Two: NEVER leave a chest of sorrows on the ship unattended for even one moment!

Love your vids man! Small tip for when dealing with sorrow chests: if you pick tem up and hang on the ladder of your ship the tears Will Go into the ocean
I just started playing the game two days ago and found a Chest of Sorrows during my second voyage. Ship sunk of course, and when I went back to collect the lost loot, it sunk again, and then I finally figured it out... this game is amazing!
Hey cliff, you are probably not going to see this comment, but here are some tips: Skeleton captains defeated on small islands will always drops a treasure map, which CAN contain a chest of sorrow, however, skeleton captains defeated on large islands will always drop a riddle, which ALWAYS leads to a treasure chest filled with loot. 2nd: You can make the Chest Of Sorrow not fill up your ship with water, all you have to do, is pick up the chest, interact with the ladder that is used for boarding your ship, and climb down a little. The chest may still cry, but it won't affect your ship. (Or, at least, i don't remember this being fixed since i used it a few months ago)
There's a way to counteract the chest of sorrows, if one of your crew goes onto the ladders at the sides of the ship while holding the chest it won't sink you're ship. Great vid btw 👍
I literally just sold one of these with my friend when we were on a sloop going through the storm. It was kinda difficult but nothing we couldn't manage. It was probably because we were on a sloop.
Guys, I know why does the Chest of Sorrows cry! It's because Merrick still hasn't gotten a phantom grenade launcher that shoots fire- and blonderbombs.
@@CliffTheStoryGuy YES, EXACTLY! This is all a big conspiracy, mysteries are a childish riddles compare to what is going on truly on the Sea of Thiefes right now.
Cliff, I haven’t seen this comment yet, but if you are holding a chest of sorrows and then hanging on the ladder on either side of the ship, it will prevent water from filling the boat. So, if one person holds the chest off the side, then you won’t need to ever bucket. Please like so he can see :)
Just yesterday I had a chest of sorrow on board. I did an OoS ghost ship voyage which just happened to be in the middle of a giant storm. We sunk practically immediately.
So I just saw the thumbnail of this video. Yesterday, in my first hours playing the game, alone, I got two of those chests on my ship. Needless to say the trip was a torture and in the end my ship sinked. It was impossible to manouver it and bail out all the water at the same time. When the ship floods it sails out of control in random directions, so it is going to crash sooner or later. In the end you are sailing in circles and still working like a madman to keep the damn thing afloat.
Chest of Rage: A fiery boy, that can bee simply cooled down constantly with water in your ship.
Chest of Thousand Grogs: Makes anyone who holds it act less-than-sober. Wait, wouldn't pirates enjoy that?
Chest of Sorrow: Needs to be baby-seated before being sold/left ashore to pick up later/ -thrown overboard- .
definitely thrown overboard
The part that we don't get in game about the chest of grog is you get progressively drunker until you eventually pass out.

You can make the Chest Of Sorrow not fill up your ship with water, all you have to do, is pick up the chest, interact with the ladder that is used for boarding your ship, and climb down a little. The chest may still cry, but it won't affect your ship.
(Or, at least, i don't remember this being fixed since i used it a few months ago)
yo cliff amazing video. also I'm curious what are you gonna name your ship?
The Notification Bell
There's a way to counteract the chest of sorrows, if one of your crew goes onto the ladders at the sides of the ship while holding the chest it won't sink you're ship. Great vid btw 👍
Funny that you post this now. We got sunk two days in a row by a Chest of Sorrows while being in combat :D (relatively new players)
Definitely gonna wanna throw that overboard in case of combat
I love your content and was so happy to see that you posted today
More storytelling pls!! Addicted to it
I’d watch you play just about anything. The editing and storytelling are so good!
Bro this guy needs to be more popular
Such good storytelling! Thank you Cliff!
You editing, story telling is incredible I aspire to come to that level
I literally just sold one of these with my friend when we were on a sloop going through the storm. It was kinda difficult but nothing we couldn't manage. It was probably because we were on a sloop.
Guys, I know why does the Chest of Sorrows cry!
It's because Merrick still hasn't gotten a phantom grenade launcher that shoots fire- and blonderbombs.
Is that launcher why the season got delayed again?
@@CliffTheStoryGuy YES, EXACTLY! This is all a big conspiracy, mysteries are a childish riddles compare to what is going on truly on the Sea of Thiefes right now.
Dude new meta for solo slopping fleets
I hate doing fleets on a Sloop 😣
Great story pirate here to kill my boredom
Once again killing the storytelling style, keep up the awesome work my good sir
Cliff, I haven’t seen this comment yet, but if you are holding a chest of sorrows and then hanging on the ladder on either side of the ship, it will prevent water from filling the boat. So, if one person holds the chest off the side, then you won’t need to ever bucket.
Please like so he can see :)
I know lmao
Just yesterday I had a chest of sorrow on board. I did an OoS ghost ship voyage which just happened to be in the middle of a giant storm. We sunk practically immediately.
that was not very strategically responsible
I love your explanation as to why it's crying
So I just saw the thumbnail of this video.
Yesterday, in my first hours playing the game, alone, I got two of those chests on my ship.
Needless to say the trip was a torture and in the end my ship sinked. It was impossible to manouver it and bail out all the water at the same time. When the ship floods it sails out of control in random directions, so it is going to crash sooner or later. In the end you are sailing in circles and still working like a madman to keep the damn thing afloat.
The *One Piece* of *Treasure* I’m tripping 💀💀💀 (Great Content Cliff)
