- 2015 to 2018 Porsche V6 built engines have these issues due to weak aluminum bolts used. 2019 and up VW engines have other issues. porsche macan with a v6 porsche engine is still a better engine.

I had this problem fixed on my 2015 Macan S some 2 or 3 years ago. They removed the engine from below so 29 hours labor. Parts are normally priced at $1,400 in Canada but they helped by providing parts at a significant discount, plus Porsche helped with the labor because it was a low miler. They also did the valve covers and oil pan.
Isnt the solution just replacing the 2 aluminum timing cover bolts with new steel bolts? Are there additional bolts that need replacement?
Thank you! I found three bolts loose and one broken off in my wife's car. Replaced them with some old Mercedes steel bolts that I had left from M104 engine, so hopefully it will stay dry for the first time. Funny thing is that our Macan was serviced for that under warranty by MAG Porsche in Columbus.
Porsche made a bad engineering decision/mistake by using these weak alumni bolts. They should correct their mistake by issuing a recall. I have the same oil leak on my 2016 Macan S with just 50k kilometers.
hello, the same problem for my macan turbo 2016, 51000km. Porsche ask me 7000€ to solve the problem, and you ?
you should file a complaint with NHTSA, doubt they would even know about the issues
Join the club. My wife’s ‘16 is now, or bone heads at oil change who reused filter due to non availability
Can you please describe the issues you are seeing with the 2019 and up cars? I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2019 S model. Thanks!
Best advice as seen on forums, Just buy an extended warranty.
Porsche has the best engineering that defies conventional wisdom. Oil leak is conventional - within conventional wisdom 😅
Just had this issue with my 2017 Macan S fixed by Porsche under warranty thankfully, but now my alternator has broken. Thinking oil may have leaked on it or damaged/not fitted correctly during the repair. Waiting to hear back from the OPC if this will be covered.
Did the base model of macan (not s not turbo) have the problem of oil leak and bolt problem
isn't there a class action lawsuit? this is ridiculous and unacceptable from a reputable brand
Hello!
I have a Cayenne 2011 mod V6 diesel 245HK ..
I have oil leak .. two, three drops of oil fall to the floor weekly ..
What do you think it could be? is there any typical leak that i should check?
good video,thanks for posting.10/10
Shouldn't this be covered under a warranty, or even an extended warranty??
Do you also see this on the drive belt tensioner ?
My 2017 Macan GTS had this issue at 19900 miles and then again at 56000 miles.
Hi Nick! I was thinking to get a Macan. What Macan year and model have you had the least trouble?
do you have a picture of the broken bolt in a red circle? I just can't see where its broken no matter how much I look. Sorry not good with this.
so the 2019 and newer are fixed of this problem? Im looking at one for my wife so maybe a 19' and up then.....
No symptoms with a minor weep? Keep an eye on it. These things leak on the valve covers too.
Thank you!
am I right, gts engines 2.9 from 2020 - thats are first facelift macan, have not more this bolt issue??
I got a chance to ask one of the mechanics at the local Porsche dealer about this. He also said he gets them in almost weekly... Now they try to do a two bolt replacement first for $800. If that does it then ok, but if not then it's the $9k-$12k dealer cost. My friend's dad has a 2015 Turbo and had it done twice! Luckily it was under warranty. I have not asked the indy VW/Audi/Porsche shops in my area yet. I did check with another garage while I was getting new tires and he was like look it's gonna take me a lot in labor, so yeah that price point they're giving you is not that far off... I'm still gonna get one though haha
Will only shop for 4 cylinder macan(volkswagen engine?) cuz i can't afford a cayenne.
Can you upload a video of repairing this in time lapse? Just curious about it . Thanks
When we have some time we will try
I believe quite a few 958.2 Cayennes with Porsche engines, such as 3.6 twin-turbo in the S variant, also suffer from the same issue. Nick, what's the fix for out of warranty cars? Porsche recommends the engine out solution to fix the issue. Is that what your shop does to fix?
Yes, Same exact engine
Sadly, it’s a real thing and very common. I took mine in this morning. It is a hot mess under there. I knew it had a small leak, but undetected as mentioned in the video but you can smell a little bit of oil if you park it in a confined area such as a garage they will be taking it apart for the next three days. Mine has 37,000 miles on it and it started around 36 I believe.
Just got this leak on 2015 Macan S. Traded it in. tons of issues out of my Macan. Also, the underpan is very thick and hides a lot of leaks.
It sure does hide leaks. We are very suprised if we ever get a Macan that's leak free.
@@TopAutomotiveInc my macan s 2016 sometimes smoke comes out of the front grill not all the time!!
Wow thanks for sharing that's not good 40,000 mi that should not be leaking like that sounds like a recall to me dude
Is this just petrol engines? I’ve got a 2015 diesel and the garage I use for servicing has never flagged this up as an issue with me. Ive had the car 4 years and it’s now done over 70,000 miles
Hi, whats with the 2.0 tfsi (252hp) VW Engine in my Macan 7/18? Thanks for you Videos👍🏽
2.0L is the 4cly VW engine
With the fundamental problem here having to do with the metallurgical properties of the aluminum fasteners themselves, I feel like it will never truly be fixed just by following Porsche's recommended methods and using the same aluminum bolts. I'm actually looking at a 2015 Macan S right now and, sure enough, the leaks are there. Would it be possible for someone at home to get to the timing chain covers and replace all of the coming cover bolts in their garage?
Did you get the 15 Macan?
@@Jadenbjackson nah I passed on it. It honestly didn't feel as fast or quick as I expected and it was a bit too small
Hey Nick do the 2019 Macan with Audi engines suffer same issues in terms of oil leaks as the earlier 2015-2018 Porsche designed engines ? How about the 4-cylinder versions based on vw engines ? Thanks
I think i might have the same thing 2016 Macan Turbo - my mechanic was changing the front tires but is so thorough he checks over everything and noticed the oil looking up through the belly pan in pretty much the same spot so he will take it apart on Monday. I hit a brutal pothole last week, tire ruptured on the sidewall and barely got it home within 4 minutes before it went totally flat. Maybe the jolt from hitting that pothole doing all of 30km an hour broke a bolt. Wasn't going fast but that was a viscious pothole, never blow up a tire going that slow before and it was a heck of a jolt in the car. But if that's all it takes to break these bolts I am going to be devastated.
are base macans with the 2.0 T engines prone to similar oil leaks??
Those are vw corporate engines. They shouldn't have oil leaks but have other issues.
I really want a Macan. Plan to buy one with a warranty but what can I do to watch the timing cover to see if this start to happen?
It’s one of the best cars I’ve ever had. It just seems to be a common problem which you can spot with a flashlight if you keep after it otherwise you might not know its happening.
What's Your advice on Buying a 2022 911 Turbo S? SHOULD I purchase one???
Yes!
How much does it cost to replace the bolts to prevent/fix this issue?
12k
I have a 2017 GTS, bought used and found the same issue upon changing oil
I just bought one a day ago and just found the same issue. What are we supposed to do if we ran out of warranty. Are you planning on just riding it out? Porsche told me it’s going to cost $3500
When in 2018 were they updated? When you mention "updated in 2018" are you referring to 2018 models or 2018 build-dates?
wonderin the same thing
I'm looking at a used 2016 Macan S, 83,000 miles...
3 previous owners.
Should I be concerned about the oil leaks?
Maybe the 3 previous owners have had issues.
3 owners in 83 000 miles should say enough hahah
@@nathanburvill1875 yup
If you replace the bolts with updated bolts is the issue resolved? Is it as simple as replacing with steel bolts? Does anyone sell updated bolts for this? Thank you.
Theres no updated bolts, they are the same exact aluminum ones. We use special metal bolts that are aluminum zink/coated
@@TopAutomotiveInc Do you remove the front bumper to change these bolts? I'm about to buy a Macon turbo out of warranty and this has me thinking twice. But I like it and am able to do intermediate mechanical work.
@@TopAutomotiveInc can you share the bolts you use w an item number and from where? Thanks
Trade it in buy a Lexus!! Only good porche is a brand new one in warranty that goes for any high end vehicle lease em new give em back only car worth keeping us a Toyota lexus Honda acura for a daily car and longevity!!
i have 2018 macan S, is it affected by this or did they change the bolts?
They changed to an Audi design motor.. Prior to this it was a Porsche through and through motor wise..
@@randolphcirilo4800 2018 model year Macans still had the same Porsche motors. 2019 was the gen2 engine switch.
@@ohmyggg I didn't know that.. Cool!
What do guys get for that repair. How many hours labor?
I heard it’s a very expensive job, $9000 in some cases!!
@@mdayeh9712To change bolts rofl people get absolutely spanked out there I did mine myself.
should I get a 2017 base Macan since that's a 4 cylinder engine and all the leaks you mention are V6 ones?
No, The V6 ones are the best. 4cyl base engine are VW engine. Weak design and ha e had many issues in the VW/ Audi cars.
I was thinking the same thing but I'm glad he answered. I want a reliable car that's a little fun to drive but have changed my mind of the Macan.
So basically if I buy one with this issue I bought a lemon? That’s how feel now after finding out mine has this issue smh
A more useful video would should how to replace those bolts 🙂
Once they break, you could start by taking the front end of the car off. Would that help you?
@@laura28277 I did take the front off and replaced them.
I solved the issues by selling my Macan S.
Easily a $9000.00 repair. Labor time is approx 20.0 hrs.
because in porsche they take off the whole engine..
@@dankestmemes5732 Yes, they remove the engine from below; 29 hours labor is what I was told. The mechanic who did mine said that he's had lots of practice and has it down to 26.
Vw quality with premium price...sad
Almost ALL V8 Macan’s have or will have the issue, as well as Cayennes! Shame Porsche!
There are no V8 Macans
@@Rythyms sorry I meant V8 Cayennes and V6 Macan’s
