I have an Elantra and I love the car. However I do think it's a tough comparison and really depends on the consumers wants in a test like this as all the cars are very respectable.
I talk to mechanics. I look around at 10 year old cars and see what is still around. Hyandai Elantra wins hands down. Focus has rust issues, Mazda's have transmission issues at 10 years old. I bought a 2016 Elantra. I've noticed used Hyandai's hold their value too. The ONLY downfall of of new Hyandai is the LACK of a spare tire.
+Sean Spring Hyandai has warranty issue, ford I never had issues with rusting in the States, though the focus has a dual clutch system that is bad. and the mazda3 seems to be a solid system. I test drove it and it is really nice. I would be hard set between the ford and the mazda but with ford's clutch issue the mazda would be a good car.
John Maksym I live in the snow belt in Pennsylvania. Lots of older Focuses that run perfect but wont pass yearly state inspection due to rear suspension rust issues and front sub-frame rust issues. They get sold in Ohio at that point. (No inspections except for emissions there) My daughter and step mother both have Mazda 3's that have given them no problems, but they live in the south where it rarely snows.
I'm in Texas and Ford's last really long unless you get them from New Orleans or from Florida. If I may ask what year are the focuses and are the manual or dual clutch. I don't mind Kia or Hyundai but a few friends have had engine issues and Hyundai wouldn't cover it. I would love to try a Mazda3 though.
+John Maksym If you are looking at 10 year old Focuses, they had a normal 4-speed automatic (a tough one!) or else a very reliable 5-speed manual. The dual clutch automatic - as is offered today - arrived in the 2012 Focus. Ford doesn't yet have a long-term history of dual clutch reliability for reference.
+Juan David Maya you can get the manual or get the 1.0L ecoboost with the 6 speed selectshift automatic transmission which is different than the Powershift transmission
No problem. You have a regular selectshift trans and a Powershift with selectshift which is there one with the issues from 2012 to 2015 which they say they have improved but I still won't trust it like you. I was hoping the auto with selectshift is paired with the 2.0L, but it's only comes with the 1.0L in 2016
Focus feels more planted and stable at speed than Mazda. Mazda also feels "thinner" and less substantial, but gets better economy as a result. Rented each for a month back-to-back and both are certainly best in class if you like driving.
IMO the Elantra is the best with Mazda second. Both are great - Mazda a bit faster, good looking - Elantra is fast enough, most comfortable, great looking, spacious, reliable with an ass kicking warranty. Overall I pick the Elantra. I don't like the Ford Focus at all. Also if Fords were reliable then the warranty would be much better.
I got 37mpg with my 2.5l, mostly highway with like 20 minutes of stop and go traffic. The 2.5l is just a scaled up version of the 2.0, so wondering how much I'm really losing mpg wise over the 2.0 if I light foot it
Mazda need to improve the road noise and ride quality severely. but i like the interior and exterior design a lot. I don't find other cars this class as attractive as Mazda 3.
It's a car designed to have a sportier feel so it comes stock with a stiffer suspension than the competitors. That is why the ride feels bumpy. I enjoy it, as you can really hug a corner. That is if you like a fun to drive car like I do.
mazda 3 is the best in those 3 compact sedans.. based on my experience

Bought my Mazda 3!! 2 weeks ago! Same model as the video. My favourite.
Mazda in my eyes. Looks beautiful and is very roomy. Not only that but contains quality at a low price
Aeventus I think u have to think a gain about the roominess
Redfox I've watched reviews of the mazda and how roomy it was is a positive about the car.
Mazada is not spacious compared to the Elantra. You need to get in them yourself to see.
Hyundai Elantra is simply a wonderful car!
no
The Hyundai Elantra is an excellent car. I own one so I know.
I test drive 2016 elentra 2.0, real fun and powerful, better than corolla 10 times
nope.
The Elantra is great, I own one and would not trade it for any of the competitors.
Nice review. Not sure why you are whispering throughout the entire review. Is someone sleeping in the back?

You have a good point. By looking to see what cars are on the road after 10 yrs you get a good idea of an auto makers build quality.
Focus any day . The infotainment in any Mazda looks like and after thought
Why are you whispering?
RIGHT!!
Focus all the way! In my Family have over 10 Focus of many years and trim levels.. all have been great cars..
+Vincent O The issue with Ford is the powershift transmission is unreliable
+Juan David Maya you can get the manual or get the 1.0L ecoboost with the 6 speed selectshift automatic transmission which is different than the Powershift transmission
DILAW IDDAHLA Oh I didn't know. Thanks

You're a very handsome man, love the voice, love the reviews haha, keep up the good work my man
Nice review, thank you!
I bought the 2016 Mazda 3. No real regrets but I kind of wish I went with the 2.5l vice the 2.0. At least the trade off is even better gas mileage.

love your reviws !! :D
Why the hell do you speak loud and then drop your voice to a whisper? Very strange reviewer.
why are you whispering
Focus has a dual clutch transmission, not a 6 auto.
Elantra beats them on features per $ and warranty, but drives closer to Corolla or Civic
All these cars are 2015's. You Americans are weird...
You are wrong on both counts.
THE Mazda 3 is made in Mexico.
Hala Heleu 2.0 versions are made in mexico but the top of the line gt 2.5L is made in japan. It’s the one I have.
thats 2015 elantra the 2016 looks more like the sonata has bigger grill and looks much different
You are thinking of the 2017 Elantra. This is still 2016 model
elantra...
focus hatchback handles better then my vette or porche.
2014 mazda is not quite, and the ride is harsh. maybe they fix that with 2016 model.
+Water Lay nope still noisy- but much better than some of the new honda accords and 2015 civics
I've got the 2015 touring tech package. Road noise is still there. I crank the Bose up to 36-40 on volume when driving highway city not so bad.
