Thank you're best
Play that funky music white boy!
How on EARTH did you get to be this good? How old are you and how long have you played?
{:o:O:}
It's 'Just the two of us' 😋
That was seriously impressive, and it put a big smile on my face from beginning to end. Davie504, that's check mate for sure! 🎸♟🏁
Whoa I made it onto BassCamp!! Thanks so much for the shoutout 🙏🏻
BassCamp out here supporting small creators! love to see it!
You’re so good at what you do that maybe you should change your name to BerTHREEd? Peace.
It finally happened! 😁
You look little nervous 😂 but well done
Welcome! You are a nice addition for the BassCamp!
I am a 74 y/o (newly retired) professional touring bass player. I must say I have never heard a better bass player / soloist ever! My highest compliments and respect to Sir Charles! You are amazing!
Davey 504 is good too.
@@deltalima6703 No hate but Davie isn't even close.
Mohini dey
@@insanehum987 I love Davie but in ability he can't compete
Ditto
THERE is the proof folks. No video edits, just a straight run through. You do not get this good without the work to back it up.
I know lots of guitarist mime playing for videos, but do people actually believe he can't play what he puts out?
To be fair… there is a lot more little hiccups and slightly dead notes on this live performance then you would see in his videos… because OF COURSE.
But he is a beast regardless. I would love to see more vids of him actually playing without video/audio edits like this. That’s just my preference.
He's really good, but that video is edited and there's a backing track inserted.
@@grben9959What? Of course there's a backing track, did you expect him to play drums AND bass at the same time? GTFO
Lol no one thinks this
More like "Charles STUNS everyone"
Hopefully "stun" as in "I'm stunned because it sounds so good" and NOT "stunned because it seems far too technically difficult for the instructors to immediately dictate and recreate any given part of"?
If you've met some of the instructors who teach and direct there (or any DMA of Bass Studies at a University with a strong string program) who are able to read pages of music that are nearly entirely covered in black, I would really have to wonder if they would be "stunned". Enjoyed this wonderful piece? Surely, no doubt about that... but which specific part of this would "stun" them? Which part would not be immediately dictated in their head while listening to it?
Most of the things that "stun" the types who have devoted their life to the instrument and being able to sight read, or play note for note from a blind listening, or recreate any applicable technique, are horrible sounding pieces that no one really wants to listen to... IE: compose something ala Schoenberg's 12 Tones while fingering for mean-tone temperament while reading from odd groupings and compound tuplets of timed/metered 32nd note patterns. That would certainly stun those people in addition to the students (actually maybe it wouldn't stun the students) but would be awful to listen to.
Without actually demonstrating that anyone was actually stunned.
Sure but “This is a nice song” doesn’t do well in the algorithm. Click bait titles will be with us for a while.
I've played bass since the early 60s when the bass guitar was a new kid on the block and we had to teach ourselves how to play or be doomed to be dance band bassist clones. Played pro and semi pro. I was considered an innovator in my early years. No idea how he does this but stunning to watch. Respect.
Yeah - I'm fresh out of boggle, and my gast was long ago flabbered. Kid's the next gen. BTW I date from your time, consider myself lucky that all I had to keep up with was Clapton, Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Santana. There's a whole new breed out there now....
@@riccampbell "I'm fresh out of boggle, and my gast was long ago flabbered." What a quirky and, to me at least, very humorous way to phrase that, especially the latter half! Did you come up with that yourself or did you get it from somewhere, if I may ask? And if it something up with which you yourself came, are you secretly Joss Whedon? That sounds very Whedonesque to my ears. 😄
@@cristonsloan So far as I know they're mine, I have a rather quirky approach to language. I certainly won't argue if someone else wants to claim them.
Am I Whedon? Hold on, lemme check my bank accounts......mmm...... No, definitely NOT Whedon. But you compliment me greatly, he's written some of the sharpest dialog ever spoken. 🙂
@@riccampbell Well, Internet Friend, in that case, may I both commend and thank you for a marvelous display of linguistic prowess.
And yes, I fully agree with your assessment of Whedon's dialogue. Which just goes to show how my very deliberate comparison of your quirky approach to language to that which he employs depicts how much I thoroughly enjoyed yours.
I strive for the same.
Thank you for a hearty and inspiring laugh.
@@cristonsloan You're no slouch yerownself, my friend. Kudos for well written and articulated posts. 👍
The dude has redefined what the bass can be. Simply the best player in the world.
Right! Sorry Wooten and the like.
Predictable reply
Hes by far better than wooten. By alot. @@ga8rielsMsg
@@ga8rielsMsg Wooten paved the way just like Jaco and so many others

I played a C major scale today. LOL. ✌️
😂😂😂😂 keep thumpin' bro!! 👍👍👍
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
@@spud13x13an old saying but absolutely spot on in this case. At one point in his development, Charles was happy that he managed to play a C scale too.
Watching his left hand , I thought they sped up the video. Lightening fast moves. 😮
You'll be playing an Am scale in no time
There is no substitute for hard work and practice, practice, practice. This young man is an amazing musician 👏👏
Um.. Having some actual Funk?
Well da funk certainly doesn't hurt any! @@benleydon
Charles STUNS !!!! Everyone that see's him. Charles is crazy stuff !!!!! I gave to admit..played bass for 45 years...charles
I feel privileged to live in an era where I could listen to giants like Chris Squire, Jaco, Geddy Lee, as a kid and teenager and now Charles brings new life, blood, and his astounding talent to us.
Looking forward to your work on the years ahead.
check out Henrik Linder if you get a chance.
@@mikeg3439 thanks for the tip.
@@pauloalvesdesouza7911 No worries, based on your post, I knew you would be able to appreciate Henrik. Gotta share the love around.
...to add to the list, John Entwhistle, JPJ, John McVie, Lemmy, Flea, Dave Hope, Fran Sheehan...but Charles...just wow.
As a guitar player... it makes me jealous to see how easy guys like this make it look. The talent and discipline is beyond comprehension. Congrats!
40 years plus as a touring / cover band Bass player, to me its not what your playing, its not how your playing, its your ability to lock into the groove with the drum track, which is this most underrated thing, that inspires me...love it.
Holy crickets. I absolutely love how pretty much ALL the Paganini and Liszt quality virtuosi are coming from a completely different direction nowdays. This kid truly is something special. (And it's no accident that he's one of the few bass or guitar players I've seen who don't make my wrists ache while watching. Lesson for you kids: if you want to play like this, stop kinking your wrists like broken straws.)
It does my heart good to someone taking the base guitar out of the background and putting it up front and center.
Cliff Burton did it for years
Respect to this young man but Stanley and Jaco started taking the bass out of the background in the 1970s
I love Charles but the bass belongs behind and underneath the music. any would be bassist that wants to be out front jumping around should learn a different instrument.
@user-ip6jy7ek2l yeah Charles is a phenomenal soloist and his technicality on the bass is awesome but that's the secondary. Ultimately the role of a bassist is in the background grooving with the drummer while in key with the rest of the music. Even the legendary bass players that lead thier bands understand their must be a balance.
@@jasonhearn5818 geddy lee payed his first rush show in 1968
Devotion brings dedication.
Dedication -- plus a dollop of talent -- brings mastery.
Mastery brings joy.
Congratulations, Charles.
It's not just the technical ability, it's the musicality that gets me. All his stuff just sounds so melodic and flawless. Honey for the ears.
GASP! I never heard bass played like this before! 😍
The MAN will be the next BIG Star on Alternative / Smooth Jazz Music Scene! The Infamous Rocker Craig Chaquico, Lead Guitarist of Jefferson Starship/Starship fame was witnessed teaching NBA Star Wayman Tisdale and Smooth Jazz Bassiest, Rock Techniques, String Bends and Tapper Ons! Waymon God Rest His Soul! Met him after one of the shows and what a Beautiful Man. RIP!
That's the best bass solo I've heard. Musical and some killer licks
So I can get tabs and instructions to learn to play this song... but where do I get 50 years to develop the skills? You are a phenomena, sir! Thanks for playing, as they say.
People say he's just a UA-camr. People say he's flashy but lacks finesse. People say he gets by on his charm and page views.
Not only is he completely legit, but Charles is also one of the most talented and progressive bass players alive. Truly amazing to watch and hear.
Show me one plaace where they say those things. Nobody says those things. He probably gets called for sessions all the time but he's too busy creating content for youtube. Also, his level of bass playing is so advanced most tracks don't need that level of expertise. Case in point: him being called by Mike Shinoda to play piano, because the bass playing required on his track was so below Charles's level.
@@xsbutterI agree, I also call BS. I’ve never seen anyone say anything like that about him.
Nobody ever says those things ever. At least nobody with half a brain.
I love how Charles always pushes himself beyond his limits and plays the most difficult pieces with ease. This, I think is why he's often considered the best bassist of our time!
what? is he now? by who, you? i mean, he's great but dude...there are some LEGENDS alive right now. very disrespectful
Sorry you're butt hurt, yet that's your opinion on a very subjective matter.
Yes, because playing the bass is all about noodley showing off with a complete lack of groove or funk.

Anyone else noticed he looks like a young Donald Trump? 🇺🇸🤤
Holy mother of all expletives known to modern man ... this guy is phenomenal and his performance is about one of the best bass performances ever.
Anyone else get transported to the shire for a brief moment a few times in the song? I love it.
This guys chops have chops ! What an extraordinary display of dexterity and a command of his instrument !
I cant wait to get good enough to play this flawlessly, Amazing work as usually. Also I love your tapping book, recently got it, my tapping is much better now.
That's awesome to hear, glad it's helped you out!
I don't know what it is, but in the past 60 years the British Isles have grown some of the best Musicians the modern world has seen. Always a delight to hear a great talent play.
One of the most amazing guitarist on the planet
The fact one man can be so good at literally anything.
I don't blame them for being stunned after this performance.
It has been a real privilege to watch this kid grow into a truly world-class musician. He was already halfway there when I first saw him on YT a few years ago, but he just keeps getting better and better.
BEST Bass player in the WORLD Hands DOWN !! hes a Slap happy maestro !!
The best bass player in become!
This guy will be a legend!
I swear, you really have taken the number 1 slot. Wooten gets all the respect he deserves, but I think youve surpassed him.
The opening feels like a way jazzier version of the wild arms 2 opening theme song.
This man is a legend.
No one can play that like you can play that. You are the best bassist ever to be here on planet Earth....EVER.....WOW.
I've been playing bass for 30+ years in a rock band (covers).
Granted, I never "learned" how to play bass properly, just enough to play in a fairly good band. But this guy would put me to shame. I dont think I could ever play as good as that, he's amazing!!!

Very nice. I know he's a guitarist not a bassist; but this performance threw me back to George Benson's playing. Cool and so impressive.
Simply Amazing!!! God bless!! John 3:16-17 Peace!!
I dig the underlying touch of distortion.👏
Awesome! Pretty humbling to thousands of bass players.
I don’t play bass, but I gotta say this is incredible, I never knew bass could sound like this❤
I do believe you're getting the hang of this music thing, it's You that inspires, thank you.
Anyone else played Wild Arms on PS1? Parts of this are reminiscent of the intro of that game.
Guitar becomes an orchestra only in hands of great musicians that able to paint pictures using sound of different colours, rhythm and vibrations. You are the one and only in the world that can play what I have just heard. You are UNIQUE 👏👏👏👏👏👍🎯🙏
I would love to be on such a level as a bassist to even be able to learn something from Charles. So far, he is just untouchable and I am confined to look on in amazement...;(.
I was a session base player for 52 years.I can't believe how far we've come. You young guys make us look like country musicians
Dude Your're Very Blessed, WOW! Hat's Off Man & Run with it.... Peace Bob
Natural talent...combined with 15-20 years of experience and practiced in YOUR choice of a thing....this is the outcome.
Massive talent bringing da funky stuff, Jazz ain't dead
Elevated is such a blast of a track, was having a really fun gradually piecing it together. It's tough but each individual section is surprisingly achievable. Great work at the clinic!
Like all great talents, he makes the near impossible look easy. It’s like “Hey, I could learn to do that,” but I know full well that it would take far more time and dedication than I have to invest.
That Ashdown head in the background!! My one and only ❤
This young fella is better then most that I've heard!
Master level. Glad students got to taste it live.
Watching his guy play is like watching a Pegacorn at a rodeo; an AWESOME combination of magical artistry and FULL POWER KICKASS!
(A Pegacorn is a freaky cool flying Unicorn)
Probably one of the best Bass player's!
Best bass player I’ve ever seen
Lovely finger-work on the lower neck, Great feeling.
Excellent just Excellent. Jazz Fusion Lives On.
He isnt just playing the bass, hes making slow passionate love to it ❤
I can't play , I don't know the technical terms . I know what absolute amazing sounds like . That is it right there .
Stuns the world !
Truly incredible. Would love to see Charles jam with Juna. 😀
LoTR shire theme inspires me too xD love your groove and everything you do
I love how this song would have been completely at home in 1978, 1988, 1998, whatever. It's just a truly well crafted song. Not even talking about the mind blowing skill, just the song writing alone has me gobsmacked.
Greatest bass player in the world!!!
Sir you are beyond talented! I've never seen the bass played this way! Thanks for all your VERY WORK and PRACTICE to bring the bass guitar to the front of the stage. OmG! ❤
I JUST GOT YOUR SIGNATURE BASS SHIPPED! Can't wait to try it out
Awesome! So envious :)
Enjoy. It looks like a fabulous axe!
I've been stunned for a long time.
Just watched this video as it popped up in my feed. To my eyes and ears, you are--at least on that song--the wonderful cross between Stanley Clarke and Stanley Jordan. That was eye and finger-popping good! Love that song, just blown away by your skills! 🎸 🤟 🤙 🍻
Whow!! That is some unbelievable slap jazz! Are you making Stanley Clarke happy and proud?

Wow Charles, your playing is now stratospheric! I love watching and listening to your bass, especially that beautiful fretless bass.
