Is it possible to reboot Captain N The Game Master in the current gaming scene? Possible, but more than likely impossible to convince of one's vision for it. Four years ago I pitched the idea of doing this reboot, as a longshot among two other ideas I came up with then, to a local studio but was rejected. I kept drawing and thinking about the idea afterward though and came up with the idea to do a pitch animatic of a hypothetical trailer of what my concept was for a new Captain N.
This was a storyboard project six months in the making, with time also dedicated to art and managing Cats Don't Dance Reanimated while this was in the works. Almost all the voice clips here are recycled from games that had featured these characters and picked to match the context of the animatic. Maybe one day this Captain N might be able to get officially made, but for now the best I can do is not keep this bottled in with the other Nintendo fans of the world.
I present to you a "what if!"
CAPTAIN N: THEIR WORLD'S CHAMPION!
(FOR THE RECORD: I am pitching a hard reboot of Captain N, using the main plot and some of the inter-connectivity but this new Captain N is not a new Kevin and any of the original show's iterations of characters like Simon or King Hippo won't be present.)

I thought they were pretty faithful to the games in the 80s... what show did you watch? Those games didn't have any real established lore back then. lol
@@shadowviruz Megaman was green and had a voice that makes my ears bleed, the Robot Masters were all messed up, Mother Brain had a human face, and there was tons of other crap - Pit being called "Kid Icarus" for one.

It’s never gonna be real, but this is so good and I need it to be.
My only problem is that Kevin Keene is not the hero, and that Lana from Hyrule Warriors is not the leader. Then again, this is a proposed idea. Most of this is what I had in mind when it comes to Captain N. Throw in Mega Man and Simon, and you’re good!
Robbie Walker Don’t Mega Man and Simon both show up in this? Also, I never watched the original, so I don’t mind this main character.
Robbie Walker What they should do is throw Kevin in as a cameo. Maybe they could make him the original Captain N and feature a portrait of him in the castle, or the new Captain N could visit Kevin who is now in his 40s and is married to the original princess. Kind of cliche, but could be a nice wink.
Calling it. Pan-Pizza/Rebel Taxi is gonna make a Top 5 cartoon/animation pitches and he's gonna include this as the number 1 pitch.
He's done a bunch of vids on pilots so most likely another one of those.

I wonder if the Mario Bros would be considered legends in this universe, almost like how King Mickey was presented in KH1 where we hear how great they were and we only get a glimpse of them when they need them most. That would probably be good for a final battle/series finale moment if they showed up to help.
Also a Smash Bros Tournament Arc would fit perfectly in the series.

There was something about female Villager having Viridi’s voice that seemed so right.
And, if I'm not mistaken, they also sampled the voice actress from her other roles. Very clever.

I like to imagine in Nintendo Land exist one bar call "The Indie palace" who in there you can see characters for indie games hanging there, like Sans, Shantae, Shovel Knight and others

Maybe, but it'd be less of a legal hassle to cover the indie games individually, with the idea that they are more isolated from whatever main conflict is happening (which in turn gives more of a showcase feel to the indie game episodes as both the main cast and audience are introduced to the style and mechanics of this new environment)

Tissue Box I knew about him for a while and thought, “hey this character is pretty cool, why isn’t he more recognized and used in media?” And this answers my prayers like with the E-reader.

Holy shit, this is everything I would want from a Captain N reboot: combining elements of Nintendo new and old, super obscure references (loved the E-Reader touch right at the end), an exciting premise, a crossover that surpasses anything from Marvel. If only it were real!

Seriously, this needs to become a thing again. I wasn't born when the original Captain N came out, but considering how popular Smash Bros. is today this could work even better than the original! I want this to be official, even if it's fan made I want this so bad!
Holy shit, I never was a fan of Captain N or didn't even liked it, but this, THIS is what a nintendo cartoon should be, staying loyal to the character's designs is what I always wished for these cartoons, it should be obvious but with that ending it feels like Smash Bros
The sign on the Cyberdemon's door implies two things:
1. A bunch of Waddle Dees and Shy Guys were able to imprison the Cyberdemon.
2. King Dedede has the armies of Hell as a backup plan.
I thought that King Dedede was a pushover, but his abilities to get minions from Quake and Doom now as his allies, well, as Ron Burgundy once said, "Boy, that escalated quickly". I guess that he finally got tired of being regarded as a joke of a villain.
I think the implication was that the door was a a portal to the Doom universe, especially since the note on the E-card says they can find someone in "Hells", heavily implying they get to "Hells" through that door.
Throw in this super FX chip as a plot point and I’m in. This is so amazing it hurts me that it’s not official.
Maybe it'll be like the ancient object like in almost every story focused Animated shows?

I said it on Twitter, and I'll say it again here: I’ve always wanted to do a reboot of Captain N, ever since I was in high school. We even have similar ideas (modern gaming world, a female Captain N, etc.) This looks phenomenal, and I say more, please!
Adding to that, I have to confess that I'm kind of envious. I doubt I'll ever have the skills required to pitch a TV show to anybody, which means my own reboot of Captain N probably won't get made. If this gets picked up, then congratulations, this kind of skill deserves to be recognized. -Even though I totally would have done it better.-
Maybe you two should do a collab to make this official.

Absolutely masterful! Really want this to be real! It's perfect for a modern audience, considering it'd really hit home with both kids and adults especially with Nintendo's reputation. Honestly Captain N should have been done now versus back then lol.

Well the old Captain N totally sucked.
In the modern age of downloadable content updates, a show like this has some interesting crossover potential, where the main characters can pop up in various games at different times, creating the illusion that the main character really is inside the world of videogames.
It could even be set up so that they randomly appear in one specific game for a specific amount of time, then move to another random game, further selling the illusion. If we really want to go all out, we could even sync up the appearances with the show, though that would be much trickier since airing schedules tend to vary from county to country.
This is really cool, tbh. It feels more like a Smash animation than Captain N but you can definitely make some more out of this concept. Then again, I suppose Captain N was basically Smash before Smash happened. Well done regardless!
Gameland from the original Captain N was sort of a Smash Bros. 0.1 beta build, when you think about it. With the insane hype and popularity surrounding Smash now, it's a perfect time to bring the concept back. Hell, if the new show is good enough, Sakurai could even add Kevin from the original show to the Smash roster with whoever the new Captain N ends up being.
Smash is basically Nintendo + Others: The Game so there's bound to be some similarities

That was a friendly bone-throw moment, some of my friends are big Elite Beat Agent fans. I was also suggested Blaster Master and Dark Souls cameos. I figured Souls would've been too recent and doesn't have enough relevance with Nintendo to have it represented. Then again Joker is in Smash Bros and there's no clear plan for a core Persona game on Nintendo anytime soon...

i'm not a big gamer nor have I ever seen the original captain N show, but despite all that I want to see this as a show
Damn this is so cool. Like we have smash to represent all the big faces of series and then this covers everything else.
Like some of the main villains could've been Bowser and Ganon, but no it's K Rool, Medusa, Dr. Coyle, etc, just like all the characters that need more representation. And man I just love some of the crossover scenes, like King Hippo knocking out Springman or Megaman and Captain N fighting a Starman. It feels like such fanservice but I don't care it's so interesting and so many little details and callbacks that Nintendo themselves would totally do, like Stanley in the Hero gallery and Diskun being a character.

I'm assuming that the original Captain N disappeared in some epic battle many years ago and Palutena has been struggling to hold the game land together ever since. The new girl is such a big deal all over the land because of the awesome power that Kevin held and everyone wants her on their side.
Her using the Power Glove as her main weapon but summoning up other Nintendo controllers as needed was pretty cool.
And smash as the big finale.
@RampagePhoenix Maybe not that much of a tie in though. The whole "rebooted series follows the descendent of the character from the original for no justifiable reason" nine times out of ten ends really badly. Some tie ins would be awesome but making the girl Kevin's granddaugther for no other purpose than so you can go "and she's Captain N's granddaughter" is a bad idea.
Though it would be cool if he returned and he's using all the SNES/NES era technology while she's wielding the newer generation controllers.

Coming back to this a year after I initially saw it, I still think this is my #1 most wanted show. Captain N was such a disappointment that it would be awesome to see the idea tweaked into something great like this. I think the hardest part of this project would be having Nintendo allow this to come fruition, so my hopes aren’t super high, but this is still an incredible idea.
In a perfect world, this video would be trending on multiple sites by now.

This honestly seems like a blast and a half and I'd be SO DOWN for watching this as an actual show! With knowledge of the universes and the different possible teamups, references, and things that could happen, this would be amazing! The trailer's sound design and the action sequences hooked me in and if this did become a reality I have a feeling it'd be a huge hit.
My two little bits:
the protagonist, before the series, is not much of a gamer, and thus lacks a detailed understanding of most of the characters. Either that, or she's a walking video-encyclopedia.
Also, Ridley is canonically able to speak english, although most people don't realize this. It'd be cool if this got used for a surprise twist in one episode.
i'm reminded of the Tom and Jerry Movie.. "Wh haven't you ever talked before?!" "I never had anything to say and i thought you'd understand.." or in this case "He CAN TALK!??!" "of course i can talk! i never say anything because i just want to kill you"

My vote is on naturally talented at video games, and her little brother is impressed/jealous, who IS the walking encyclopedia.
I like the idea of the hero not really being interested in videogames. Maybe she even disliked videogames, or "outgrew" them! The refusal of the call is an important first step on the hero's journey, and her not liking Nintendo games sets up an interesting character arc where over the course of her adventures, she develops a newfound appreciation for the characters and the world's they live in. Then, if/when she saves Nintendoland and returns home, she starts playing Nintendo games again.
Her not being familiar with videogames, or at least modern videogames, also gives us an excuse for exposition, as she'll need various things explained to her.
Somebody make a petition on nintendo to make Captain N an actual character in their series or even better make a game base on video game characters similar to kingdom hearts.

This would be one of the greatest cartoons ever. Revive any and every franchise Nintendo wants, celebrate the ones people already love, and revise characters that people don't know/like. Span the generation gap that the Switch itself already does so beautifully, and highlight the depth of character that video games can really have

What are you talking about? Kid Icarus: Uprising is fairly recent when compared to, say, F-Zero and Star Fox.

I want this so bad I hurt for it. Holy crap, I pray for this to become a thing. The absolutely severe level of references made, and the excellent job with the sound and voice capture, got me so excited for a possible reboot that I cried a little. Even got freakin' Diskun in there. You truly are a master of your craft and Nintendo would be bonkers to not want to make this. (Also thought the KH Pete grab was inspired. And Viridi for Villager was fantastic. I didn't think you could extract the snark from her voice but you got her to sound sweet and sympathetic. Just such a great job with this animatic. Doesn't hurt matters that Kid Icarus is my all-time favorite franchise since the first game and you definitely pulled a lot of good inspiration from it.)
Years later and I still love this animation. Even now I'm still catching new references. It feels so good to see such a lively and inspired experience. I hope that Nintendo takes a hint.

What I would love to see is this getting fans involved in some way. Perhaps a character design contest for BG chars, maybe short voice submissions, music and promotional, the possibilities are there!
If now directly made or supported by the officials, perhaps a fan made web series...

This is the closest we get a full on super smash bros cartoon...if only Nintendo can pick up your project because of the detective pikachu movie being a big hit and the animated super mario bros movie reboot is looking promising...

This idea truly is brilliant animation work and then some, including the references such as Mother Brain, Pit, the Power Glove, and yet adding your own ideas like the modern day video games that have been made in Nintendo recently! That leaves me with one very important question...CAN WE BRING IN THE HEDGEHOG!!!? Just to see Eggman and Andross working together and bonding over the fact that they both have foxes who are pilots as arch-enemies would be well worth the price of admission!
Why is this still not a thing
Hearing the iconic Doom electric guitar riff at the end, all hairs on my skin just sprung up like sunflowers in the sunlight. This is absolutely terrific! I really hope Nintendo picks this up and makes it a thing!
