Whitesnake is one of the classic 80's hairbands, great musicians. "Still of the Night" is still on my playlist and is my favorite song from them.

They wern't a hair band before 1987. They really rocked till that year when they wanted, and achieved it, conquer the USA.

David Coverdale (vocals) formed Whitesnake in the late 70's as a solo band after the breakup of Deep Purple in 1976 - the British singer fronted Deep Purple from 1974 to '76 after replacing their classic singer Ian Gillan ... Coverdale admitted the name Whitesnake was after his thang in his pants 🐍 and various members went through the band including guitarists Bernie Marsden, John Sykes, Steve Vai, Adrian Vandenberg, Reb Beach, etc... and even had Deep Purple's Jon Lord (keyboards) and Ian Paice (drums) as members before Deep Purple reformed w/ singer Ian Gillan in 1984.
David Coverdale also recorded 1 album w/ Led Zeppelin's guitarist Jimmy Page in 1993 as 'Coverdale. Page'... 🤘🤘
Whitesnake recorded 2 versions of 'Fool for your loving'... the original in 1980 on the album "Ready an' willing" co-written by guitarists Bernie Marsden and Mick Moody... It was re-recorded in 1989 for the 'Slip of the tongue' album after Whitesnake became huge in America w/ guitarist Steve Vai, bassist Rudy Sarzo and drummer Tommy Aldridge.
This live version was recorded in the 2000's I believe w/ guitarists Doug Alrich and Reb Beach in the line-up.
Some more Whitesnake classics - "Love ain't no stranger" ... 'Here I go again' ... 'Still of the night' ... "Now you're gone" ... 'Is this love' ... 'Wings of the storm' ... 'Judgement day'... 🤘🤘
David Coverdale was not optimistic about rock music becoming popular in Britain in 1977 as punk rock became popular there... but he recorded 2 solo albums 'Northwinds' ... and 'Whitesnake'... and was well received touring the UK solo. His new band took the name Whitesnake and released the first album 'Trouble' in 1978... the band established themselves as a stellar rock band in Europe by 1980... Their live album 'Live in the heart of the city' (1980) is one the best live albums and charted at #5 in the UK... but the band was not properly promoted in the US at the time.
Worldwide success came around 1984 w/ their 6th studio album 'Slide it in'... which became a hit in Europe and Japan and sold well in the US.
Signing to Geffen Records in 1987, Whitesnake re-recorded some of their best catalog songs and released them as the self-titled 'Whitesnake' album in 1987. With MTV promoting a trilogy of music videos ('Still of the night' ... 'Here I go again' ... 'Is this love') featuring actress/ model Tawny Kitaen (who married David Coverdale)... the album sold 8 million copies in the US alone... However, the band on that tour was different from the one on the album (Coverdale fired them as the sessions were closing down).
Whitesnake released 'Slip of the tongue' in 1989 and it was a platinum success... but after David Coverdale and Tawny Kitaen divorced in 1991, Coverdale disbanded Whitesnake that year...
David Coverdale recorded numerous albums including 'Coverdale. Page' in 1993... 'Into the light' in 2000... but was unable to replicate the success of Whitesnake.
In 2002, David Coverdale finally reformed a new Whitesnake line up and enjoyed a successful comeback as he recorded and toured for 2 more decades... Recently, he announced that he was embarking on a farewell tour but health issues have postponed all Whitesnake touring plans for now.

You covered just about everything I was going to say. I always thought the original version of Whitesnake with Moody and Marsden was the best version. They were a great blues based rock band before they became an MTV glam band.

Hi ladies. And again we see here a Dutch influence.
The blonde guitarist is Dutch, just like Floor 😊. His name is Adrian Vandenberg. He is off and on with Whitesnake. He and David Coverdale are meanwhile good friends. David has asked him a few times to become a permanent member of Whitesnake. Together they wrote a few songs.
But as a real Dutchy, Adrian has more talents and interests. And just like me, he was born in the Hague 😊
Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 🤘🫡

Whitesnake formed in 1978 after Deep Purple split. From 1978 to about 1983 the lineup was different than the Hairband lineup from 1987 on. The original lineup was more of a Blues Rock sound and included John Lord and Ian Paice. I actually like the original lineup the best. Most of Whitesnake’s hits were remakes from the earlier lineup. One of the most beautiful songs that you will ever hear, and one of my very favorite songs is “Blindman” from the 1980 album Ready An’ Willing. “Fool For Your Loving” was also originally released on the 1980 album.
    “Blindman”

If you’re going to check out Whitesnake check out some of their much older performances his voice has been pretty much fried for a while now. He still sounded pretty good on their 2004 concert DVD but even then it was starting to age he was definitely a Great vocalist but you really have to be fair and go back and listen to his stuff he did in the early and mid 80’s and even the 90s. David Coverdale is 72 now so anything within the last few years he is definitely struggling.

I saw David Coverdale singing with Deep Purple in 76. When he first formed Whitesnake they were more of a blues-based rock band. When MTV came out he replaced his band members with "pretty boys" who looked good on video and became a glam band. Still good musicians but i prefer the original with Mickey Moody and Bernie Marsden.

Looks like someone beat me to the punch as far as long, nerdy facts rants go this time around 🙂 So, I'll just settle for some future recommendations. First and foremost, to give you an idea of a young, exceedingly seductive David Coverdale, "Slow an' easy" from 1984 is definitely the go-to song. If anyone of you has EVER heard a more oozingly suggestive bluesy hard rock track, I'd be very surprised 🙂"Love ain't no stranger"" and "Guilty of love" off the same 1984 album ("Slide it in") are also highly recommended listening.
Their biggest hit, the song that EVERYONE has heard, is obviously "Here I go again". I strongly suggest that you, as an experiment, try out BOTH versions, for comparison - because the 1987 mega hit is actually a remake. The original version is from 1982, as in Whitesnake's earlier bluesier era that failed miserably to attract a US audience. (The rest of the world liked them even then, though.) Having switched to a more hair metal oriented style, the song was re-recorded for the "Whitesnake 1987" album - and the rest is history. (There is actually even a third version, also from 1987: a downright radio rock version with yet another different lineup. The record company believed the song was a hit but that the album version would be too heavy to reach a wider audience. As it turned out, they were very wrong, so that third "Here I go again" faded into obscurity, but is out there to be found.)
Their other biggest hits from their late 80s heyday include "Still of the night", "Is this love", "Give me all your love" and "Now you're gone". The EARLIEST Whitesnake song I know for sure is available on a promo video, is the 1981 classic "Don't break my heart again". "Walking in the shadow of the blues", "Ain't no love in the heart of the city" and "Fool for your loving" - the 1980 version - are also celebrated classic from their earlier, bluesier era. But it's the 1989 hair metal remake of the latter that actually became a hit 🙂"Crying in the rain" is yet another early song that was remade in the late 80s, and once more each version holds merit in its own right.

At the very least he should've kept John Sykes. He was the centerpiece of their sound. But knowing JS, he would just tell DC to go fuck himself. Then Whitesnake releases poppy versions of their songs with those pretty boys. It was garbage!

Coverdale should have called it quits 30 years ago! dude has no range left in his voice. Very sad so many old rockers don't know when to hang it up.

Sorry ladies but this a horrible rendition of this, the audio is terrible. Try the studio version.

I was never a fan of him firing the entire band after they laid all the instrumental tracks. Then he goes out and hires a bunch of mediocre talented pretty boys so he could look good in concerts and videos.
