This show though. US Festival set is the greatest moment imo. Saw triumph 3 times and they are a much better live band than their more polished but toned down studio stuff.
I was at this show. Sunday, May 29, 1983 Devore California, the desert of San Bernardino county. Recently turned 17 before this show and I have to say it was one of the best shows of my life. I was one of 350,000+ metalheads, rockin out and partying in the desert. Quiet Riot, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions and Van Halen to close out the night. I’ve seen some great shows throughout my life, but this definitely was one of the best. Triumph was by far the best band that day. A really fun reaction, thanks for bringing back some awesome memories.👏👏👏👏🤘🤘🤘🤘🤙🤙🤙🤙
@@jeffmcclure4047 I did. That was the third time I’d seen Van Halen on that tour, and Mr. David Lee Roth said the same crap line for line. Wasted every time. Roth was a good front man/showman, but he was not a good singer.
Triumph is a VERY UNDERATED CDN BAND, finally get the recognition they deserve!!! Amazing Band Rik Emmett lead singer, has an amazing voice!! (Lay it on the Line you need to listen to)
Triumph is a Canadian "export". They actually became bigger in the states than they were at home. His vocals while not identical is very similar to Geddy Lee from Rush. Both bands are great and deserve and deeper dive into their respective Songs and careers!
Almost willing to bet Dad knows Triumph, maybe not. Another great band from Canada. Saw them in the Astrodome 1983 Texas Jam. A few more good ones are: Lay It On The Line Magic Power Never Surrender Thanks for the Reaction.
This was from the 1983 US Festival, perhaps the largest attendance ever. The lineup that day in order was Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions, ending with Van Halen. At the time of Triumph’s appearance, the crowd was estimated at 350,000! Most people there that day thought Triumph had the best performance, which Eddie Van Halen took offense at, but apparently Van Halen were all drunk, so……
They were one of those bands that just pumped positivity to the crowd if you were to listen to what that song is saying it is a fantastic song. You have to listen to that whole concert portion of triumph and you guys would get a better feel for the band they’re awesome. They’re fantastic. I’ve seen them about four times
I was there that day (all weekend long, actually). Their set was one of the highlights of the entire festival. This has long been one of my favorites by them because of the performance and the message in the song.
Love me some Triumph! US Festival 1983, Day Two...I was there, and it was AWESOME! (Day 2 was the biggest, I think it was over 250,000 people!) Donna, you probably recognize Rik Emmett's voice from "Magic Power" or maybe "Lay It on the Line."
Canadian band; they have many, many great hits; the album came out senior year of HS (Allied Forces); was instantly a favorite in 1980-81; he wrote this song for his grandmother who was fighting cancer; read the lyrics through with this in mind and it'll make you cry ... well, at least it may have made me ...

Always enjoy it when i see someone discover triumph for the first time. Been a fan since 78. Rik emmett is probably the most talented musician and singer ive ever seen. Thanks for this.
My brother was at this concert ( Us festival ) he was nearly crushed and blacked out from heat exhaustion- taken to the medical tent. He said that Triunph blew everyone away and stole the show. It really was their crowning moment in the USA and launched them in popularity.
Rik Emmitt ( singer) is still going strong nearly 50 years after they started. Still hits some pretty high notes, still shreds on the guitar, and still has great hair!
I was at that multi-day concert in 1983!!! The US Festival!!! I have a copy of Triumph's performance that day!! It was LEGENDARY!!! Great reaction and welcome to the Triumph rabbit hole! Enjoy!!!
Awesome performance! I saw Triumph live twice in the mid ‘80s. Rik Emmett could definitely hit those high notes. He had the Farrah Fawcett hair-do for sure!❤ He was 29 yrs. old at the time of this concert, happily married and a one yr. old at home in Canada. He is now 70 yrs. old still married to his wife of 48 yrs. and has 4 adult children and 5 grandkids! (And his hair is as white as snow) still hunky though! I last saw him in 2022 and will fly from Virginia to Canada to see him again in 3 wks.! I can’t wait!! He has a memoir out now and a book of poetry. You should definitely check them out!!
I thought you'd like this one ladies. A totally great band and awesome uplifting song. You played the best version of it as well, the 1983 US Festival. The was the set ender and yet Rik Emmett still belted it out. Recommend - Lay It On The Line and Magic Power from this same concert
Great reaction ladies! Triumph were a Canadian hard rock band that were formed in 1975 and were popular in the 70s and 80s. The band are: Rik Emmitt vocals/guitar, Mike Levine bass/keyboards/backing vocals, and Gil Moore drums/lead and backing vocals. They had a string of hits that were played often on rock radio. Other songs worth checking out are: Lay It On The Line, Magic Power, and World of Fantasy!!
This was a 4-day festival in Southern California. 3 days one weekend, then the following Saturday---which was Country Day--great artist then as well. I was at all 4 days working with vendors. Triumph played on heavy metal day with other great rockers. There was also New Wave Day and Rock Day. Altogether, one helluva weekend. One you were glad and fortunate to be at.
I've been fan since 1980 and I've always said that about Rik, esp live, Who can sing and shred like this live? Randy Jackson of Zebra in his prime would be another name. Frank Marino gets a nod but Rik's the best for me.
One of greatest guest sets ever at a show. This was their encore and show closer, thus the long finish. Any song you choose from their US festival set is terrific.
Triumph was the headliner at my very first big concert in 1978. That was at the Canada Jam at Mosport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario. I love Triumph to this day and is just one of the great Canadian bands on my playlist.

Magic Power from the same LIVE @ The US Festival and Lay It On The Line from LIVE @ the US Festival are two of their greatest hits. They blew every band including headliners Van Halen off the stage with their performance at the 500.000 + in attendance festival. Thanks for playing Fight The Good Fight this song was the ultimate closer at the entire show.
