Thank you for this orientation video. I am familiar with Panasonic compacts and the iA mode and I was an avid film camera buff so know about apertures, ISO, and shutter speeds. However this camera has so many "bells and whistles" that your video has explained. I took it right out after I bought it and shot extensively in my garden without changing any settings other than those that came with the camera and got good results. In addition I intuitively transferred the photos to my Mac with no issues. But now its time to start going through the menu and making a few settings and your video has been a boon to familiarise myself with all the buttons and controls and what they will do. It is also helpful to know what an experienced camera person finds the most useful buttons and which ones are less useful. Thanks again for taking the time to review the FZ300.
You're right: there are so many bells and whistle and i love them all, but it's a lot for my old brain to retain. So, I recommend to anyone who has 'Senior moments' to bring a small journal and right down what you've done in the field. It really helped me to figure out what is good and what I should work on.
This tutorial saved me! I was ready to return my camera. I thought it was way too complicated. And that was after watching an entire series that was supposed to be a beginners guide on here. This video was so easy to understand. And started where a beginners guide should start, with the buttons and what they do. Not with professional photography jargon. Thank you!
Just ventured in to the camera world, through drone photography, never used nothing more than my phone and a Instamatic previously. Bought the FZ330 to compliment the DJI drone video and photo images. Without this video in all honesty the 330 would have just been another Instamatic for me. Having read the instructions watched loads of UA-cam videos until coming across yours, i wouldn't have still had a clue in all honesty. The best video on UA-cam by far for a total novice like my self, which also gave me the motivation to explore the camera further....Thank you so much, really appreciated!
Received a copy of this camera today. Bought it for my Dad. Now I knew Panasonic IBIS would be good. But I was not ready for how good this IBIS actually was. I shoot Sony myself, and while I knew it is not as good as the Panasonic, I did not expect such a huuuge difference. 600 mm is almost tripod steady while handholding. 😱😱😱😱
This is terrific. I am awaiting delivery of my camera and it's given me a great head start on how to use it, with the bonus that this video can be an ongoing reference. Thank you!
The best video of the FZ300 there is for us newbie's. Soooooooo much information but explained very simple and easy to understand. Now I can take advantage (slowly) of the many features of the FZ300 and refer back to your video as I will need to. Thank You very much Heather!!!
I also thought you did an excellent job explaining the camera features. I have had the FZ300 for a few years and did not know about many of the features you talked about. I would like you to maybe do more tutorials on how to use some of the features you mentioned. I have also watched numerous videos on the camera and agree yours was absolutely the best and easiest to understand. Thank you.
I just purchased this camera on the recommendation of another UA-camr as I love their content look. You just educated me on how to use it. Great video. I thank you for creating this and sharing it with us all. 👍👍👋
Heyy, can you send me some portrait pictures on email? I want to buy it but i cannot test it so i would appreciate if you could send me some of your pictures
I have been a fan of your channel for a few years now ...UA-cam took down my channel for reasons unknown so they unsubscribed me to your channel ...however I have resubbed. I have purchased a few preowned and open box cameras based on your reviews ... and No reviews are as thorough as yours ...THANK YOU!... please keep going!👍
Thank you so much for this guide. I am looking to purchase one of these so have been viewing lots of UA-cam tutorials. This one is BY FAR the best and most useful. I now feel that I have enough background knowledge to hit the ground running, when I receive the camera plus you have a new subscriber 😀
I need another 2Gb of memory in my head to absorb all this. Would like to save this video just for me. Fantastic and well presented. Thank you lots. Dennis.
Opened the box containing my new camera just yesterday! The video is very helpful, but I got lost trying to "watch and do". I will watch afresh again. Going on an African safari and want to capture my adventure without issue!
Thank you so much. I just have a question. I can’t change the filter settings to no effects. That feature on my camera is not even highlighted like yours.
Excellent tutorial. An FZ300 is headed my way from B&H. It will be my first super zoom and I anticipate returning to this video numerous times as I learn the camera. Thank you!
Fantastic video! You covered so much of what I was wanting to learn. I will be watching one more time, to be sure I got it all. Thank you! AND... I love my Panasonic FZ300. I am a beginner photographer and it takes amazing photos, even if I don't know what I am doing.
Heather, this was very good. The absolute best of many I have viewed on FZ300 Cleared up some confusion as I move from an s4400 ( which I just wore out) to the FZ300 which I had out for 6 hour hike for first time yesterday. Getting to modes down wasn't too bad so far. You helped big time with the ongoing learning process. One confusion I still have is these green areas in manual focus at distant deer. It was a few green leaved branches in the sight picture and moving my position would have spooked the deer. This type of camera is about all someone with my lifestyle will ever need. Because DSLR's and the terrain I cover and targets just do not work. Time, weather, expense, plus humans are smarter than machines, and wildlife is smarter than humans. This camera seems great. The weatherproofing will be a test of time. In field common sense and aftercare are important factors. I am still photo for most part. However, that 4K is so exciting in that my dog friend and her daughter running free and capturing that right moment will be priceless. Going in I thought the whole motion picture 4K thing was a waste of technology. Heck I have so much respect for the old school wildlife artists. Track the animal, time the light conditions, wait for days, weeks, or months for that one perfect time to press the button. Than getting out with that cargo and into the darkroom. A lost profession we should never forget. Wonderful work Heather.
I am so glad you are so excited to use this camera! I think you are right, it seems like its perfect for what you need it for. As for the manual focus, when you switch that switch on the back of the camera to MF, and use the little wheel dial on the side of the lens, it should give you an outline of color to indicate what part of the photo is indeed in focus. You should be able to change the color it shows in the Menu to white, red, or yellow I believe. Or else in those situations on Autofocus, it will default to whatever it determines is in front, so a branch with leaves in front of the deer. Or you can use your touch screen to pinpoint on the screen that you would like to focus on the deer not the branches. Hope this helps!
Thank you for sharing your information regarding the Lumix FZ300. I learned so much from this video. I will watch again to pick up things missed. You explained the functions of the ISO, Aperture settings... which helped clear up my confusion.
I originally purchased a Canon bridge camera from Mike's Camera Shop, but wasn't happy with it. Heather recommend exchanging it for this Panasonic. In Banff, I took a few hundred long distant scenic and bird photographs. When viewed on my computer, most bird pictures were great and allowed me to identify bird species approx. 500 + feet away. I wish I viewed Heather's video before I took the trip. She provides great customer service - Thanks Heather.
I got one for 2 reasons the 4K and the wether selling something I could take with me and if wether started turning bad could still take pics. But was really impressed by vid quality much better than I expected. Great vid explains the camera really well.
Excellent tutorial for a very amateur photographer. I was following instructions on my camera and was delighted to learn how to use some of the features. 😊. Thank you Heather 😊
Best overview! I just ordered one of these as it seemed to do the most for the least. Love the zoom range and the dust and splash protection. Ruined a camera shooting dune buggies in the desert a few years back. didn't drop it, just the rise and in the air. Wish this had a bigger sensor but I'm sure they'll come out with that model now that I've clicked but on this one, lol. Thank you so much!
Could you make a video in which you explain how to make "macro" (close up) photos (what buttons to push to do this, and what options and settings there are, and where to find these). I am not a camera person, but I bought the Panasonic FZ300 because it is partially sealed against moisture and dust, and it could allow me to learn more about taking photos. The gentleman below is totally correct. On the internet you are BY FAR the best communicator and educator about how to begin to use this camera. WOW. You explain things carefully and you assume that the listener may not know anything (which is very true in my case). The 2 "Owner's Manuals" mostly just confuse me. (When I write "best on the internet", I mean best on the planet, since that the internet comes from everywhere. I wish that you made short videos that just explained doing one thing to teach people like me how to do things with our camera. I know how to do panorama shots and I now use this ALL THE TIME. Thank you very much for this video. Max
Great tutorial. Thank you. You explained it simply in an easy to follow format. Cheers for that. I will save and refer to it again. Many thanks Karen 😊
I ordered this camera since out of my 4 DSLRs only 1 is working properly... I've had them for quite a while and I'm not into photography as I used to be so basically I'm migrating to being a hobbyist. I truly appreciate this review because I recently purchased this camera and would begin to use it shortly. Thank you so much.
Wonderful video. Great simple to follow explanations.. bravo!. I'm due to take delivery of this camera on Friday, so was keen to try and get a head start. Many thanks for your time and inspiration here. I've saved this video for future reference as I'm certain it will be very useful to a newbie like myself. 👍
Thanks again, and I'll let you know if I think of something. I do plan to watch your other videos on specific photo information to learn as much as I can. Steve
Just bought this camera. Amazing camera for the price and the best entry level camera you can buy for the money hands down. Plus you get a mic input so you can add an external mic, this a very selling feature for UA-cam vids and Vlog as always the onboard mics are not good.
@aye you will want to access your menu > go to the wrench with the C (custom settings) > scroll down with your directional pad to page 7/9 > Auto Review > Duration Time > scroll up to Hold I hope I answered your question!
Thank you so much for this very informationable video. It has truly helped in the process decision as a birthday gift to myself!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
Thank you for this tutorial, very well done. My new FZ300 will be arriving in a few days, so this give me a good start in understanding the camera. I want to check to see if you done any other blogs on the FZ300. Thank You Again. Steve
Stephen Williams this is currently my only video featuring the FZ300, however, if you would like to see something specific done with the camera I would be happy to accommodate! Just let me know!
Great tutorial , I accidentally changed setting while playing with camera . I got it back to factory reset and changed things again with 4K burst pics. Cheers
This is a pretty good video touching upon all the features and other things (hints & tips) but there is one thing you HAVE TO DO when reviewing a digital camera and that is take MANY still pictures and shoot a FEW videos in different situations, i.e. indoors, outdoors, city, country, by the water, plants, flowers, animal shots using a variety of different manual settings and then add it into your review. Doing this will show your viewers what this bridge camera is capable of and how it performs. This will also get you more views and subscriptions because it completes your review. That need to be your goal. Other than that, you did a great job.
I appreciate your advice Robert Smith! I will keep that in mind. I try and do indoor/outdoor depending where I am to take the sample footage, using the zoom and seeing it's macro ability, but it can be difficult to try and also include water, plants, animals as well in every single video as I only have one day to capture what each camera can do in the location I am in, so believe me I am always looking for multiple opportunities in one place. Thank you for watching and I will do my best to broaden the subjects I capture!
@@Shutterbug101 You're welcome. Your channel has so much potential and that's why I said what I said. I just wanted to give you some ideas to think about. What I mentioned about outdoor things, well, it doesn't have to be all those things I mentioned. Just do the best you can like shooting away from where you live, if you're the kind of person who enjoys their privacy. Keep on reviewing and stay happy. :-)
If I can get my hands on one, absolutely! The closest video I have going over that camera currently is the Canon 90D if you need something to assist at the moment!
This video was so helpful, THANK YOU! Will this camera allow me to take clear, sharp pictures of birds, like a hummingbird, where nothing is blurry? If so, will you PLEASE let me know what mode and setting to use. I haven't been able to figure it out and am always disappointed with my pics.
With this camera to accomplish those photos at that speed, you will need to be in the sun, no shade. The more light the better. Then use your S mode to tell your camera you need the fastest shutter speed possible (I believe it is 1/4000 on this camera). Give that a shot!
@@Shutterbug101 thank you so much for your response, I will! One more question... does the bird/animal I'm capturing need to be in full sun, or do I, or do we both? I usually sit on my covered porch to take pics of birds and animals who are mostly in the sun at my bird feeder, but I am in the shade when taking the picture. If I'm in the sun, can I take a pic of a bird in the shade? I'm confused on how this works. Oh, and the shutter speed goes up to 1/16000.
It is better if the animal is in full sun, more so in the morning or evening light. When the animal is in the shade, it takes longer for the camera to take the photo so you cannot use the higher speeds.
Really great video, so informative and easy to understand. I picked up so much info here, thank you v much. One thing I would ask if you are still monitoring these comments is the zoom. We have an Fz72 currently which has 60x optical zoom. This model 'only' has 24x. The 60x is great for capturing something miles away, but you do lose image quality. Will the 24x zoom be sufficient for further away things, or are we going to notice a big drop?
I just got this camara, your review helped me so much. but I have a question. how can you do a long exposure for something like a lightning storm this camera?
You can use your Tv mode to set it anywhere between 5 and 30 seconds long by looking for " symbol after the number. Also set your timer (your drive mode button) to 2-10 seconds to avoid shake.
I don't have any written documents, but if enough people are interested, I could see about gathering simple notes that are easier to read than the manual!
Hello, I am a bit confused about charging this camera/batt. A YT vid suggests you can charge it with a powerbank, some say you don’t. Also thanks you for this excellent tutorial. Pls info, greetings from The Hague Holland
Enjoyed the video, very helpful! I wanted to ask if you can tell me how to get crisp, macro shots with this camera? Is an additional lens needed? Thank you!
This camera has a macro focus button on the side of the lens, I recommend using a tripod to assist in getting as still a photo as possible to help the outcome remain crisp. Thank you for watching!
Extraordinary video - thank you for your time and help with this. QQ - Do you happen to know if VIDEO recorded on this camera in AVCHD will import into iMovie 10.2 for video editing? I've tried to research it - looks like older versions of the program won't work with AVCHD - but I'm led to believe more modern and updated newer versions of iMovie can handle it. Just curious if you happen to know for certain? Thank you again, really appreciate it!
I see no reason it shouldn’t as a lot of recent models record in AVCHD, and if they haven’t updated it quite yet, it should be simple to convert to mp4 to read it in the program through a program like Adobe media encoder.
Thank you for the positive comment! When it comes to the flash, the switch on the front top left side with the lightning bolt allows the flash to be activated. The botton on the rear of the camera with the same symbol allows you to change if you want the flash on, flash with red eye on, etc. If you do not wish to use the flash, you push the popped up flash down with your finger. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Hey so I’m an independent photographer and I would like to take photos of me by myself sometimes. How do I work the self timer so I could set it, run up to my backdrop, and the camera will snap within a few seconds and I’ll be in it?
If you press the downward directional button on the back of the camera or access the drive options from the Quick menu, it will give you the option of taking photos in single frames, continuous frames, or a timer. You will select the timer (make sure your focusing setting on the back is set to AFC), and then press the shutter button to activate the timer or you can use your Panasonic Image App on the phone as a remote control as well! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Shutterbug 101 ok cool thanks! My camera was suppose to come in today but didn’t but was just curious. And does the app work tho? Like I could stage my camera, go to my back drop, and snap a photo of myself though the remote app?
ae. musicman11 absolutely! It’s a bit tricky to set up the first time but your camera will remember your phone every time afterward. Once it’s set up, you can tell the camera to shoot, Rec, zoom right from your phone where you can also see a preview of what the camera sees! Let me know if you have any issues setting it up :)
I have the Panasonic FZ300. I'm looking for an external mic which will mount on the camera's hot shoe. I'm also looking for a wind shield to block wind noise while taking videos. What do you recommend in these two cases? I learned a great deal from your awesome review. Thank you !
I like how you put this video on a beginner level without being condescending. THANK YOU! 🎉 And, you got straight to the point.
This is the best tutorial of the FZ300 that I have seen so far. It is at the perfect level for non-expert photographers. Thank you so very much!

Great great tutorial !
Thank you so much !
Great overview and enjoying this camera. I bought the fz300 few weeks ago and posted some sample vids on my channel.
Very well explained, and instructional. TY
thank you very much for this great tutorial, now I really understand my camera, thank you so much😄😄
Thank you so much for this!
Really clear. Really helpful. Excellent.
So helpful! Thank you so much!
From the bttm of my heart thank you
Excellent. Thank you.
Awesome... Thank you so much and you are fantastic explaining things in a way that is easy to understand... 👍👍
SO helpful! Thank you.
Nice video, i bought one thanks to your video
Great tutorial , I accidentally changed setting while playing with camera . I got it back to factory reset and changed things again with 4K burst pics. Cheers
Great walkthrough- thank you
This is a pretty good video touching upon all the features and other things (hints & tips) but there is one thing you HAVE TO DO when reviewing a digital camera and that is take MANY still pictures and shoot a FEW videos in different situations, i.e. indoors, outdoors, city, country, by the water, plants, flowers, animal shots using a variety of different manual settings and then add it into your review.
Great video, thanks so much!! I learned a lot!!
Very helpful thank you
Best user guide out there; thank you Heather. Would you do a video over the layout of the Canon D7 Mark II ?
If I can get my hands on one, absolutely! The closest video I have going over that camera currently is the Canon 90D if you need something to assist at the moment!
Excellent done. Informativ. Tank you :)
Thanks for the Tips! 😁👍
I just got this camara,
your review helped me so much.
but I have a question.
how can you do a long exposure for something like a lightning storm this camera?
You can use your Tv mode to set it anywhere between 5 and 30 seconds long by looking for " symbol after the number. Also set your timer (your drive mode button) to 2-10 seconds to avoid shake.
what number and what symble are you talking about? I also searched for a "TV mode" and couldn't find it anywhere.
Thank you so very much for sharing this video! Are there notes somewhere for this video?
I don't have any written documents, but if enough people are interested, I could see about gathering simple notes that are easier to read than the manual!
Always come back for a review!
You mention a uv filter for protection. What do you recommend?
Your tutorial is great, does the battery have an indicator of when it's going to run out.
Hello, I am a bit confused about charging this camera/batt. A YT vid suggests you can charge it with a powerbank, some say you don’t. Also thanks you for this excellent tutorial. Pls info, greetings from The Hague Holland
You can charge it with a wall outlet, your computer or a power bank, absolutely! It just depends on your access to power.
@@Shutterbug101 you rock. Thank u!
Thank you , nice video, just missing how to work with the lightning light
Thank you!
I have the Panasonic FZ300. I'm looking for an external mic which will mount on the camera's hot shoe. I'm also looking for a wind shield to block wind noise while taking videos. What do you recommend in these two cases? I learned a great deal from your awesome review. Thank you !
I would recommend the RODE VideoMicro at the link below. It is small, travel friendly, and has the wind cover as well!
