Picked one up for $140, had to pull the head, had a stuck exhaust valve, and clean the carb, runs great, fun to ride, 70 mpg all day. Retro future 80's Honda is always cool.
I'll probably be getting myself one in running and decent condition in 2 days for $450. Can't wait to get my hand on it. Do you have any tips for things to do once I get it to my place?
@@jaxd7206 I struck a fat cat, and low sided it, dragged the front brake, which then high sided it, on gravel. Bent the front wheel, busted a lot of plastic. The cat took off like nothin' happened.

@@jamesgeorge4874 I'm so sorry to hear you had an accident. Those fat cats are always up to no good. It caused such an immense amount of damage as well. Sigh.
Ive used the torch method a few times. With some practice. You can make unpainted abs look new. Even Scotch Bright out of scratches and a little quick heat. Looks fresh. 👍 Works great for the low budget restoration.
Glad to see the heat cleaned up the plastic so nicely for you. Next time if you use a torch and a bit of a quick/careful hand it will save you a ton of time.
Still have not changed my impression of this bike. When they hit the market they hit me as a Hoover vacuum of the 70’s lol. Make you a nice hop around.
Heat gun does work great for plastics and some rubber components, saw that in the old days of you tube on a cars bumper strip. Was just doing this to some lawn chairs the other day actually. Can always buff and polish after too.
Dude, thats the go to towner right there. need to make a parts run? hop on the moped and get em. Think of the money you save on gas by driving the moped to get parts. And it'll haul the weight of two adults? that's a keeper imho. Daily commute bike on the warmer days.
I just bought an '06 Helix. Paid a good bit more for mine but I love it. It's super clean and I've put 200 mi on it so far. I've got a '21 Honda PCX but I'll be selling it soon. Just can't beat an ole school Helix.
Keep up the great work loved the vid it's funny because I have been looking into getting a helix for myself for the past few weeks and now I'm pretty sure I'm gonna snag one up lol
I gotta giggle every time I hear someone make this mistake. At 1:45 in the video he calls this a moped... aaahhh where's the pedals? Mopeds have pedals... SCOOTERS DO NOT HAVE PEDALS!! The Honda Helix is a scooter... LOL!!
that came out pretty good still! actaully did a video of a trick my neibor taught me when I was a kid to restore headlights which also works on clear plastic as well :)
That's looking pretty hot now! Can cover those scratches real easy with some pinstripes! Just saying. Some toothpaste might help the fogging of the plastic windscreen, if it's not too far gone. All-in-all, a pretty sweet little machine!
The Helix is a top shelf scooter, I have an 01 that I do all the work on, its in great shape, I saw at the start of the video you were missing the white breather tube that goes from the carb to the airbox, the helix doesnt like it off, you ever put that in? It should make a big difference, mine will do 75mph gps verified, its a great scooter, nice video bro
It's a Honda, if the engine spins, it'll probably run well enough to function. Buddy of mine and I used an old Honda 4 stroke generator that had been haphazardly tossed into a shed for 20 years, good news was it was upside down and the old fuel leaked out, bad news was it was literally caked in oil from sitting for so many years upside down and it smoked like crazy for the first few hours of operation. We used it to fix up a detached garage on his house when we found out the electrical connection to said garage was uh... Sketchy at best... I'll say this, the breaker in the house feeding the shed tripped when it rained.
@@goldenrustorbust And also a "Ride the Lightning" hazard. The wire was barely buried, and we'd found a dead racoon once that had decided to gnaw on it.
The heat on the plastics is only temporary. UV from the sun will quickly fade it back. You're pulling oils from the plastic out to the surface. Doing this often will make the plastic brittle. Use pledge Revive it. Does a great job on plastics believe it or not
Heating plastic to make it look new Works good For short Periods Of time it won't last long a week or so at most but it does work that mothers brought that pannel back though with the heat not to bad
Heat gun works. It works better with a propane torch. And it's no problem to do that it just brings the oils in the plastic to the surface so it gives it that shine again.
You never showed a "before" shot when you first bought it! I've never tried it, but I assume you can restore that windshield with a headlight lens restorer. Good luck selling it!
Yes, as others have stated, not a moped. It’s a scooter and a damn fine one that should be able to reach 70mph. Mopeds usually can barely go 25mph and have pedals like a bicycle.
Okay here's the history of the word moped the " mo"part means motor and " ped " means pedal. It is essentially a motorized bicycle with a 49cc engine. If the engine does not run you can also use it as a bicycle
Look my head lights are faded. It's muggy and rainy here, but I have a heat gun, so I'll make a short video of trying it out very soon. I am not a you tuber but if this works. All credit goes to John, I hardly ever make videos.
That is Not a "moped". That is actually a great motorcycle. I have ridden one of those 20,000 miles. And a similar two bikes another 50,000. But k had one of those, a 250. And 400 yamaha.. great t rides!
If you still have the helix. In the video you didn't have the snorkel on that goes from the carb to the filter, the helix runs like absolute garbage without it. Should go close to 70.

Were you able to get the separated plastics back together? Enjoyed it.
Unfortunately not the plastic were pretty bad and had already been tampered with

Do you know that the windshield can be polished like the new head lights .
What are some good products for that
Every polish made for normal car paint. Just go easy on it, plastic gets warm under polish a lot faster than car chassis
Use novus 2 on the windshield and headlight.
