Wow you are a great film maker ,my partner died recently, now I am a solo scooter rider at the grand old age of 70 your film inspired me.Regards from the Uk .
I have been riding for 40 years and always found a way to listen to music either fitting a tape deck and speakers right up to modern day a iPhone and buds. It’s always been possible.
Julian - what a great and inspiring movie. I stumbled across it by accident, having dived down a Honda Helix wormhole. I watch a lot of motorcycle video (including many of my own), and yours is one of the most enjoyable I've encountered. You really deserve far more exposure than your 2.4k UA-cam views indicates. Perhaps some TV station could air it - it's that good IMHO. Good luck with whatever you are doing, but if you're not making movies (and riding the Helix) it's the world's loss. Stay well. Nick.
Nick what a sweet comment. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. I am definitely not going to stop making films:) just starting to take this UA-cam thing more seriously and see where that takes me. As for the Helix, it's waiting for me back in Canada. I miss that thing!! Cheers, Julian
Top stuff Julian too much to say really wonderful editing and story been on some long journey your like one of them rare unique people that I meet when backpacking the sort u never forget. Perfect film😇
I spent some 20+ years of my life writing and producing both public and commercial television here in the States, and this, sir, is as fine a piece of filmmaking as I have seen in quite some time. I, too, am a scooter rider -- a pair of Vespas -- and like one fellow who commented below, I'm now 70, and I ride solo (my partner doesn't ride). There may will be a Helix in my future. (Why else would I have fallen down the UA-cam Helix rabbit hole?!). You take care of that beautiful, faithful yellow scooter, Julian, 'cause she sure took care of you. Thanks for a most enjoyable video.
Thank you Julian! I own a Helix. I know the thrill. You given us a truly lovely film. I will watch it again. And again. I pray as you continue your adventure safety and joy will be your constant companions.
I love that scooter. And it’s nice to still see one around in that condition. I’ve got two. A 650 Burgman Executive and a Honda 250 Elite. They can laugh all they want. I’m having the most fun you can get with your clothes on. On cheap reliable machines that sip gas and barely ever break down.
i got a beatass 1986 junker helix for 450$ about 6 years ago, mainly as a joke because it was so weird looking and i work at a biker bar and thought it would be funny having it parked amidst all the harleys. the joke was on me because i fell in love with the thing and ride it all the time and am now fully in the helix cult. the reliability of these machines is legendary, they are immortal.
Oh, Julian, dude, what a freaking awesome documentary you made, man! I shared it with my Honda Helix crew here in Argentina. It's seriously mind-blowing and incredible, the way you captured not just the essence of the journey, the scenery, but also the vibes of all of us riding these beautiful bikes. Massive props, bro, and thanks for sharing it with us! Big hug!
I too have never wanted a motorcycle license until I saw one of these beauties on facebook marketplace. I fell in love immediately. Thanks for convincing me to finally take the leap and get my license!
I've had many adventures on bikes from the Elite 250 (similar to yours) up to the Gold Wings. My best adventures have always been on scooters. You made an awesome video friend. People long to do such but never do it. They watch videos like yours to fulfill their fantasies. Then those of us that have enjoy watching it in remembrance of our own and feel joy for you. Thank you for posting and doing an awesome job of editing!!!!!
I'm in the states down in Ohio, a few years back I picked up a white 1987 Helix. The Honda dealer here says mine was actually made for the Canadian market, the dash panel is labeled "Fatten" instead of Helix and the odometer reads in kilometers. They claim they are rare and they hadn't seen one in person. That said, it's a Helix and they can get around! I'm not sure how many "Fattens" were made or much of anything else.
The dash panel reading "Fatten" means it was replaced at some point with a Chinese knockoff panel. This is a common part to replace as the speedo plastic gets foggy and unreadable from sunlight over the years. I have an '87 Helix and I had to replace mine as well. Mine reads "Gongbei" but I have seen the "Fatten" ones before. ua-cam.com/video/6eHH5jANmPo/v-deo.html
Absolutely loved your documentary! I found this while looking for "slow ride home" and I'm glad I did. I got myself a yellow scooter and live in Canada also. You did an amazing job of documenting your journey and inspiring many. Thank you for sharing this!
I‘m just commenting to prove that I’ve been following you when you had 938 followers when you‘ll have a million. Dude, please don’t stop making these. You‘re getting better with each video, and they‘re already 💯👌🙏
This is easily in my top 5 list of best UA-cam videos ever... Thank you for sharing it with us. If you see a beat up red Helix on the road someday, maybe it's me!
My dude! I am so happy I found this. I rode a cross Canada on a piece of garbage old bike. And recently I rode my Honda Elite to the Rockies. Thanks for making the video, really appreciate it. I got videos about both over on my channel.
Wonderfully put together video. You have captured the essence of motorcycle touring at it's heart....wonderful solitude, the feeling of self dependency, and the appreciation of the motorcycle itself and the wonderful roads ridden. At 80 now, having toured for over 65 years with several million km's under my belt, this video brings back fabulous memories of my own trips in years past. Although I still ride, I am restricted to day trips only due ot my wife being somewhat infirm, and it's good to watch this and have those old feelings come back. Thank you so much for your video. It's not the size of the bike but the quality of the ride that counts....
Man I am so envious but so happy that you had this experience! A yellow Helix is my dream bike! They look like a wave runner on wheels lol I love it. The only problem is I've never ridden and frankly I'm afraid to ride a big 250cc as a starter bike..
Don't be afraid. I have owned several small motorcycles, but my Honda Helix (yellow like in the video) is the easiest one to ride. Even though I am only 5 ft 6 inches tall, both feet fit flat on the ground. There are no gears to shift - just twist the throttle and it goes. The weight is low to the ground so easy to balance. It has enough power to easily keep up with in town traffic and can be ridden on the highway up to 70 mi/h. It is the ideal scooter. Good luck!
Hi Julian, The way you present your story it's amazing. The script, cinematography, color grading, typo everything was so perfect. I'm glad found your video. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I also ride a small scooter (Honda ADV 150) but I didn't do any long solo but maybe now I will.
Stumbled upon this video via Reddit. Started doing research on Honda Helix’s and this video is to rad. Reminds me of why I love riding motorcycles, especially longer trips like this. Great editing and overall killer vibe. Well done, this inspires me on multiple levels
What a beautiful video. I recognize a lot from when me and three friends crossed the US in six weeks. In the saddle you are always alone with your thoughts. A lot happened in my mind on that trip, and I changed my life because of it. On Sunday I’m buying a Helix btw. That’s what led me here. And I’m very grateful for that.
Man what a trip. High class visuals and lovely story behind your trip with all the voice-overs! I have to get my Helix running again - I'm stoked now :D Ride safe!
i remember the hellex, way ahead of the time, and i supose to expensive.but what a great survant to you, loved the story and one you"ll never forget- thanks Steve from Wales Uk
just watching this, shocked to see you have so little subscribers considering the quality of this video. keep up the work man. love the scoot. i drive a piaggio myself but want to get a helix bc that sick 80s look. one day:)
I picked up an old Suzuki Burgman 650 and did some touring in the Black hills this last fall. I can identify with some of the things you talk about. Exploration journeys at a little slower pace it's pretty cool.

Just happened to stumble across your video. Wow what a trip that must have been. I've always wanted to do something similar. One of these days I'll make it happen. Just wanted to thank you for sharing your story. It was very inspiring.
Great video man, everything about it is awesome! i happened upon it because of a yellow Helix for sale close to me with 8,000 miles. I want to travel my country as well and what a simple great machine to do it on. Thankyou for the video!!
Excellent content. Nowadays, more and more, we have to listen to ourselves. It was the youtube algorithm that brought me here. Thanks YT! Greetings from Portugal and man, keep up the good work

Great video Jillian! I've lived in north central Maryland all of my life and I've had just about every different size of motorcycles over a period of 40 years up to 1500 & 1800cc Honda Goldwings until 2004. I stopped riding for 14 years then bought a 1996 Helix in 2018 with 22,000 miles which I fully restored mechanically back to showroom condition. I only drive it occasionally 100 to 150 miles round trip out to the mountains in the western part of my state along scenic parallel to the freeway back roads to totally enjoy it and the slower paced experience. I'm 70 now so the Helix is all that I need as I don't miss at all struggling with the heavy almost 900 pound bikes anymore compared to the 350 pound Helix, or the clutching, shifting, etc, and for the amount of riding that I do the Helix is perfect. I've never even taken any of my motorcycles further than a 400 mile round trip all of those years, but I commend you for making your long sucessful journey on the Helix and sharing the experience with everyone.👍👍👍
Amazing video, I have a Honda Helix. I have ridden it many miles but not on such a long trip. Fantastic to pull that off at this stage in your life. One hundred thumbs up.
Cheers!
Excellent travel video! I really enjoyed the video, your video editing skills are wonderful, beautiful scenery and always have been a fan of anything on 2 wheels. My favorites are small cc hondas. I have a 87 elite ch250 which is fun and always wanted to do a scooter rally on a helix. Keep recording and traveling.

@Julian Thomas when you start in one topic on youtube, and somehow, the algorithm takes you nearly to a subject that's vastly different from your intended search.. aka.. the other side.. not to be confused with some derogatory statement but a welcome experience down another rabbit hole of hobbies and such.. which after watching this video, I have been immersed in the topic and am currently trying to find a classic scooter to rebuild and enjoy. So when I land on a great video experience far from what my initial interests are, I kindly let the content creator know that somebody outside of the intended audience is watching and loving the content. I hope this is concise enough.
Beautiful film, Julian. I'm in the market for a helix myself and this really inspires me to want to leave myt small town and travel cross country while documenting it as well. Question though, it seems like you tent camoed a majority of the time, where did you charge your drone/crame during your travels? Cheers, and thanks for making such a lovely short film!
Such a great and beautiful insite into your life and the great journey you and you kickass little yellow scooter went on. Some year id love to go on a soul seeking journey myself either on my vtx or a helix. I envy you brother. But family and children put a halt on it. But maybe when im 50 or so.. ill be free to make the journey. Be proud of what youve done and i look forward to seeing more adventures.
Le storytelling, la cinématographie, la musique, tout était parfait. Je suis venu en pensant regarder une vidéo sur le même scooter que le mien, je pars en ayant regardé un film. Un très bon film. Merci, je reviendrai.
Great video!!! I understand falling in love with these things, I'm older so I fell for them when they first came out decades ago but never did get one. I applaud you for doing what you wanted to do. Good luck to you and God Bless! BTW: Didn't get the Helix but at 67 just bought my first scooter (2005 Suzuki 400).
What a pearl! Came for the Honda and remained until the end for the journey.

I hope this is concise enough.
wtf this is so good it should have way more views
Beautiful film, Julian. I'm in the market for a helix myself and this really inspires me to want to leave myt small town and travel cross country while documenting it as well.
Question though, it seems like you tent camoed a majority of the time, where did you charge your drone/crame during your travels?
Cheers, and thanks for making such a lovely short film!
Homies got my dream scooter and starts the video with my favorite musician wtf
Edit after watching: and the editing is absolutely fire

Beautiful! Loved everything about it specially the yellow scooter🖤
The rise of Feel my JULIAN!! I am here for it 🙌🏼
Increíble viaje, me emocionó! sigue creciendo hermano, saludos desde Barcelona!
