She was nervous to present this to Robert Plant, but he told her he always thought of it as a spiritual song and gave her his blessing, he especially loved the choir. She is humble, she is generous, she is kind and funny, some icons are made, But Dolly was born with it. Awesome version Miss Dolly.

Dolly Parton was my first concert at 13 years old in Saginaw, Michigan. I took the trip back there from California with my Grandma (Nan, we called her). Even at 13 I knew I was witnessing a legend. I really grew to love music even more that summer, so much so that I began trying to play my second cousins guitar late at night. I wanted a guitar so bad by the time we were leaving. Nan called home to my Mom (which I didn't know til much later) to ask if she should get me one since I seemed to really take a shine to playing. My mother said "no way", but on the way to the airport we made a surprise stop at a music store. Nan told me I could pick one I liked. For me it was a black and white Fender Telecaster which I still have to this day. Nan passed away not long after that trip. To honor her for the gift she had so graciously given me the previous year, I chose to learn Stairway to Heaven, in its entirety in the one week's time until her funeral service. And while there are many things in this much older music lovers life that may have been left incomplete or unfinished, I conquered that song the best I could in that one week. With tears streaming down my face at what was my first "live performance", I believe I did Nan proud. Looking back, I can say with certainty that she was one of the few people who have ever put real faith in me. She showed it that summer day in Saginaw when she went against my mother's wishes and got me that guitar. I stumbled across this cover version by complete accident.... and as I write this, listening to Dolly sing, now staring down the barrel of 41, the tears are streaming down much like they did when I lost my Grandma. It's strange how life can come full circle sometimes.... listening to the woman who provided my first concert experience perform the first song I ever performed live. It's poetic in a way and one of those simple little reminders that life might not just be a series of coincidences. Maybe, just maybe, someone special to me that passed from this world so many years ago, saw that life hasn't been so kind, and wanted to send a little message to remind me to rediscover the beauty in the world. It's easy to let the colors fade, to let our senses dull, and the melodies get drowned out by all the noise around us. You are dearly missed Nan. Thank you for always having faith in me.

Not being exhausted by the daily worries of parenting and blessed with wisdom that only comes with decades of living. One apparent difference between country music and rock and roll is that country songs are always about something, while rock and roll songs often aren't. What you suddenly "get" about Stairway To Heaven after listening to Parton's version comes from how she changed some lyrics to make the song about something. In the Led Zeppelin version, the lyrics were highly ambiguous and mysterious, and Parton clarified them. Which I don't think is a good thing. While I think the arrangement is interesting, Parton's version doesn't have the mystique of Led Zeppelin's.

Stairway was my favorite song as a teenager (who woulda thought 😂) but this version had kinda swayed me from Led Zeppelin. I’m in love with this song. The end is great 😊

Controversial but perfect in my book. Dolly took this song to her Grandpa Owens’ “House of Prayer.” Thanks Iron Butterfly!

Greatest Tennessean to ever live. Dare I say American? As far as Influence? I'd guess she's saved of lot of listener's lives at some point. That may be a problematic statement in today's climate I know. How about, She's has a very special place in alot of people's hearts. She did get the Living Legend from the Library of Congressof these United States.

Hey now, there's a lot of great Tennesseans! Dolly represents East, TN well but she is definitely from here -- what you see in her is our culture.

In my late 70s, I'm a year older than Dolly Parton . She's my muse. Not only is she brilliant, kind, beyond talented, she's a philanthropist who gives her time and money to thelp those who are less fortunate, All you young women out there, never fear aging. Emulate Dolly Parton. Grow old with Joy and you'll stay young forever, just like Dolly.

This was awesome! So many of the truly great songs can be reworked to be performed in a completely different musical genre. But there are few artists great enough to pull it off. Even with a great song like this one.
Dolly is just great enough to be able to pull it off.
