It's because peter and miles try to use as much power as they can while keeping their enemies alive, which result a fear from going to the limit so they pull back by a lot which results them beign weaker, and mj can just knock them down because she knows they will be fine, she doesn't have that weight of pulling back like miles and peter

What annoys me is that it never once felt like Peter NEEDED the Black Suit. We don't get to face Kraven as Regular Spider-Man, we just have Peter's Spider-Sense have a day off so he can cheaply get stabbed and then we face Kraven as Black Suit Spider-Man. And Peter feels artificially weaker since he no longer has any of the Suit Powers or any of his gadgets from the previous game, and the gadgets we do actually have feel a lot weaker. And it makes out as if Peter's just too old for the job, but mother fucker he's only like 26.
You mentioning his spider sense taking the day off made me flash back to that scene right before you confront Kingpin, where he's being backed up by a Swat team that's been paid off.
So he has a level of trust in them that he obviously wouldn't in Kraven, but his Spider sense alerts him that he's about to get shot in the back by them, but doesn't alert him to a knife to his stomach right in front of him?

I mean, I guess it is a bit of a stretch to call it a "masterpiece" but I still think it's an amazing game even tho I completely agree with Skipper, it truly could've been so much more. Besides it's just an opinion, maybe to them it really was a masterpiece y'know.
Your critique really summed up my thoughts on this game in a fantastic way; it was a great game in many different aspects, but a lot of the character beats felt somewhat rushed or underdeveloped and lacked the necessary pay off. Somewhat weird considering the phenomal pacing of both Spider-Man PS4 and Miles Morales; every time I finish that first game I'm overwhelmed with emotion at the final scene between Peter and Otto, and of course May's death - moments which feel natural and earned in the context of the wider story and game. Finishing Spider-Man 2 i just felt... nothing? It's telling that my first impulse on finishing Spider-Man PS4 was to immediately replay the game, but with Spider-Man 2 I just hit the delete button to free up storage space. It's funny the director compared Spider-Man PS4 to Iron Man; this game felt more like Iron Man 2: still a fun experience, but not quite the Empire Strikes Back it needed to be.
You summed up my thoughts exactly 100%. The first game is way higher rating wise for me. Herald of knull venom was rushed, and most of the story beats were held together with tape. I love Venom, but this has more misses for the character then hits. The kraven hunters was pathetic also. Summed up most of my thoughts in my own comment thats way too long. I cried at the end of the first game I'm not afraid to say that. Didn't have the same emotional impact with the second game.

Additionally for me, it felt like they really nerfed Pete in many ways, from intelligence to mental fortitude to strength. They continually put in him in situations to be saved, which is odd because the first game showed how capable he was without Miles and he was only in those dire situations when the Sinister 6 first surprised him. Very weird for me and inconsistent with Spider-Man in the first game.
I had the same feeling, and I was afraid it was just me because I had experienced the game through a let's play that had just focused completely on the story and skipped side content. I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone in feeling emotionally detached compared to the first.😔

But then goes wrong with Redfall and Starfield were disasters because Bugthesda....NO Starfield, Redfall, Halo Infinite etc are FACTUALLY bad because Microsoft, more specifically because of Philly Sphincter. Microsoft build 343 to make Halo, they are still the bosses, Phil constantly went on about seeing the progress with Redfall and rather than put a stop to it or delay it. Microsoft dumps it out their because their priority now is WelfarePass. Not actually making games that people want, but making games to fill the live service.
Even Helen Keller could see that Microsoft is generally at the heart of all the mistakes Xbox makes, because they want out of hardware. Its been obvious since they started eating up huge game publishers. I'll be shocked if there is an Xbox after the Series S/X. But WelfarePass will sure as hell be on PS6, Nintendo Potato 3, PC, any platform that will support it. However they really need to learn that they need to focus on quality not quantity with games before that happens.

Hi fi rush was a great game because Tango gameworks make good to fantastic games. Redfall and Starfield were made before Microsoft acquired them. Zenimax ruined them by forcing them to make live service games and hence you got Redfall. Starfield was bad because its foundations were made by zenimax and would have also been live service. The only place where Microsoft helped was to delay Starfield so it would not have been a broken or buggy game. Starfield launched we'll, it's just a mediocre game. Again because of Bethesda.
Next year Xbox is releasing Avowed by obsedian and Hellblade 2. They are going to be great games. Let's see if you'll react positively to Game pass then. Microsoft can do game pass because they are one the richest companies in the world unlike sony who have a bottom line and also have huge debts. Stop with that Xbox welfare pass bullshit. Xbox isn't going anywhere especially after multiple acquisitions since 2017. They are very strong, they just need consistent quality games. I didn’t like how Felicia was handled in the story. A big theme of this game is redemption and second chances but Black Cat doesn’t get that. We are told why Felicia is doing what she’s doing but never shown and given what we know about this version of Cat lying about serious things isn’t out of the question. She told Peter that Hammerhead had her son and Pete spends a large amount of time panicking that he’s a father only to be revealed that she played with his emotions to manipulate him. As far as we know Felicia just lied to a young kid so she could get out of the city. When compared to Beck and Tombstone we actually are shown how they’ve changed. I would’ve liked it more if Peter had told Felicia that her father, Walter Hardy is still alive. So she’s been trying to track him down and finally finds his location but she discovers that the Maggia have discovered him too and are trying to kill him. Felicia steals the magical wand to save her father so they can get a second chance as a family. Also I would’ve loved some playable Black Cat missions but that’s just me.

Absolutely love how u actually criticize the game and not call it “woke” brought up problems that were actually valid with the game itself. One of the biggest issues with the game for me is that there’s not a replay ability. Idk why didn’t have replayable missions or new game plus at launch which is content they should really have. Overall tho For me the game is a 9/10 or 8/10.
I would say that the "woke" element is more of a cherry on the shit cake that usually worsens my opinion on a game. I too give the game a 8/10 but damn is there too much woke cringe in this game.

I would cite that the side quests for Miles are about pushing a message instead of actually being fun. None of Miles' side quests are actually good or fun besides the Mysterio one which is a multi-part event. The gay couple one you brought up takes way too long, is way too corny for me, and the stereotypical gay couple with no other substance (1 has feminine voice, other is jock type) grates my nerves.
The elements I find too "woke" are Danicast (absolutely awful), and the devs decision with M.J. because that aspect is just an endgoal with no actual research done on how journalism nor podcasts work.
Tbh, ever since I saw all the cutscenes in a compilation, I can’t help but think they mishandled Venom and the black suit arc completely. I mean Raimi may have made black suit Parker a dork, but it really sold Peter becoming a worse version of himself with him eventually hitting MJ. Not only do they go way too hard with the angry voice and edgy lines, but they sell it as Venom making Peter bad and not Peter becoming a worse person, instead favoring that he’s becoming feral, which just doesn’t work as well.
Yep, Peter should've started becoming feral at the final act of the game if ever, probably after something REALLY bad happens to one of his close ones, which is the only time in which Spiderman going nuts makes sense for his character. In general, I think they mishandled Peter's character a lot, with how they made him retire due to him being tired of being Spiderman being specially egregious. It makes no sense for him to do, a substitute being available (cus yes, Miles Morales is and always has been just a substitute, Into the Spiderverse being the exception) or not, they should've made Miles help Peter recover his faith in himself or something among those lines.

You pointed out everything I kept scratching my head at throughout the story. Each character needed more conflict in comparison to the rising conflict. Maybe if they concentrated less on making Mary Jane playable they might’ve noticed this and fixed it.
I wish Peter had the black suit for longer. Also Venom absolutely should've been in this game more.

Hot Take: Spider-Man 3 from Sam Raimi did a better job at telling the Symbiote story than Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2.
Also did anyone take a shot when Miles said “man” at the end of every sentence? I think he says it more than Shaggy for the entirety of Scooby Doo.
I also had 3-4 crashes with the cube glitch, no body glitch (MJ mission), and Dr. Connors being invisible. Thankfully this game came with my PS5 so I didn’t pay too much for it.

The big thing I'm glad you brought up is the white antivenom abilities not changing with any of the black suits, as well as peter's parry being fixed to white symbiote tendrils after you beat the game.

Its a big shame. I was firmly convinced that the story would be a masterpiece. Spider-Man 1 made me laugh, gave me goosebumps and made me cry. And Marvels Spider-Man 2?
I had no feelings about Spider-Man 2. Not even a facial expression flinched. I really tried to like the story but it just kept getting more and more absurd.
1. Black Suit. I seem to remember that the people at Insomniac said they wanted to do something special with the black suit. But I have to admit that none of this got me. Spider-Man's "dead" wasn't epic or anything. (No way my goat is gonna die bc of a knife lmao) It was clear to everyone that he wasn't going to die anyway. He simply got the suit from Harry while he was about to "die". There were also no cool interactions between Black Suit Peter and Black Cat, Black Suit x Black Cat is just peak fiction. I would also have found a church scene very cool where Peter thinks about what he did so wrong. A epic shot of him. In the rain in the dark, starring at his hands while some epic ass music is playing. But no. We did have a church scene with Kraven, but it wasn't that spectacular. It was just for plot purposes. No other reason.
2. Harry Osborn I barely felt any emotions for Harry. I thought it was really nice how they explained the relationship between Peter and Harry at the beginning of the game. You could understand that they were best friends but the "death" scene of Harry was not good at all. I didn't feel any emotions. To be honest, I didn't even cared if he died or not. Miles even saved him in the end. At the end of the day it was just a reset from the first game. Harry is sick, Norman is desperate only with the difference that all the events with Venom happened. I and many others cried at Aunt May's death scene and I still cry to this day because it was so emotional. The Harry scene was not emotional at all for me.
3. Last Arc. The last Arc has a bitter aftertaste for me. I found it very epic and very over the top on the one hand. It reminded me a lot of Web of Shadows, but that's not a bad thing. I just think it's an exaggeration how we went from "A virus over NYC" to "We're going to take over the world and everyone will be a symbiote" (Regardless. Where are the other superheroes? The Avengers exist, etc. But I'm ignoring the point since it is a Spider-Man game). I think between game 1 and game 2, there could have been another game that was a danger to all of America or other continents. Harry could even have appeared in the game and we would feel a real bond with Harry, which they didn't achieve, at least for me in Marvels Spider-Man 2. Harry's "end" would be much more dramatic because we would have strong bond to know Harry better. What will it look like in the next game? Save not just the world, but the entire galaxy? What I loved so much about Spider-Man 1 was that it was a classic Spider-Man story. The story was realistic. This story was just a fanfiction from a kid, who wtachdd a Web of Shadows Anime Music Video from the 2010s.
4. Post Credit Scene 1/Norman Osborn. Osborn wanted Spider-Man to kill Venom but not Harry. He did exactly what he wanted and Osborn still gets so mad that he goes to Otto (The Otto thing makes no sense btw bc he doesnt even know Miles). I understand that Osborn is angry that his son is sick and injured again. Nevertheless, Peter and Miles did what he wanted. Everyone was ready for Harry to die, it was always mentioned how Harry would die if Venom died too but Peter still wanted to try to save Harry. He and Miles did it. Both of them saved Harry. Norman Osborn asks Otto who the Spider-Men are. I thought Norman Osborn was a smart man. Standing next to Peter is another Spider-Man with African-American hair and a specific hairstyle. Sure they didn't communicate properly, but wouldn't Norman find out in his lifetime that Peter has a friend/teacher who has the same hairstyle as Miles? Later, Mary Jane comes and holds Peter's hand. Yeah Norman didn't see it but like come on.
AND YES IMNSONIAC. WE GET IT. OSBORN WEARS GREEN LIKE HOLY WERE NOT BLIND.
5. Miles weird suit. I don't want to talk about how the suit looks like because this is about taste. But does Miles even bother to hide his identity anymore? Why are you showing your hair? You're just making it easier for people to guess who you are.
6. Post Credit Scene 2. I was so excited to see who it was. My guess was Cletus with the twist that maybe they're bringing a version of Cletus who isn't known and every viewer knows that Miles' stepfather or what he would become is a dangerous man who might be Carnage at some point and knows that Miles is Spider-Man. How interesting that would be. Instead we got Cindy Moon as a new character. Regardless of what scandals this figure caused, I think it's a shame that another Spider character is coming. I just hope they completely rewrite her story and it's not some crappy "biological love" story between her and Peter or even Miles. But in the end she might just become a new side character without spider powers. Or she even becomes a good and exciting character.
7. Peter nerf. Brother, you worked as Spider-Man for years. You look like the biggest idiot while the 17 year old can do everything. This is nlt the Peter from Spider-Man 1 that I loved.
8. Venom had thousand ways to kill Peter. He grabs his head and flies somewhere. Why aren't you doing anything? What's with this plot bs? Just end it. Why let him live and throw him away? This is just bad writing.
9. Spider-man quit. I suspected Spider-Man would give up in the end. However, I thought because MJ is pregnant and Spider-Man can't afford to die bc hes gonna have a kid. But no, he just stops.
Man this story was bad.Funnily enough, I was worried that the gameplay wouldn't have that much of a difference. The Gameplay was amazing. I loved that 10/10. My least concern was that the story would be so terrible because I saw that they could write the best Spider-Man story. I would say that the story of Marvels Spider-Man 1 is much better than all the Spider-Man films. But that was just disappointing and I was speechless at what rubbish this story was.

@@citrussp958 Yes, unfortunately I commented incorrectly and wanted to say it differently. He will 100% come back but if I'm honest even that scene didn't affect me because it was too obvious that hes coming back. Osborn and Otto have no connection to Miles except that Osborn hates the Spider-Men. Otto is just angry at Peter. So Peter has to return again for the story. Maybe I just didn't liked the "taking a break" ending because everything leading up to the end ruined the story for me so I didn't even cared about the ending
IMO the weakest part is the story after Kraven. Venom turns into a generic aliens taking over the world plot instead of something more personable.
And it needed more villains. I wish these games would use more C and D listers like Hydroman, Cardiac, Puma, Solo, etc.

The game is lacking a lot of boss fights. I believe there is only like 6. They killed off half the S6 Which were majority of the villains in the first game and never found a replacement for all of them in this game . Black cat could've been a actual boss fight and not another chase sequence again she could've been like shocker where you chase her then fight her similarly. Instead it's just another chase for her. We're missing side missions bosses such as taskmaster and screw ball(not a loss without her)
Another huge problem is that it’s already been done before with Web of Shadows, and that game was objectively much better written in the Symbiote takeover storyline. This one was 100% rushed

Its good to hear you disprove some of the silly and unreasonable arguements made from other youtubers while also providing your own fair criticism. A very well-made video that views the game in a fair and fun way. I think the lack of conflict between the characters is because they didn't want the characters to be against each other before the symbiote without considering how the symbiote can enhance the conflict.

I played the whole game without watching any reviews, only issues ive had with th game is 1) MJ being OP against trained hunters is crazy , and 2) I had to reload the game 3 times because the bugs either prevented me from progressing or norman osborns head and hands were missing. Honestly it was the easiest platinum trophy i have ever gotten, but was very enjoyable. I give it a 8.7/10.
MJ didn't do anything against the hunters. All she did was use Silver Salbles gun to do it all. Is it that hard to believe that Sable tech is great?

I grew up in the 90's & loved video games. I legit thought the future of gaming was going to be utterly amazing. It's not about graphics. It's about increased gameplay modes, gameplay mechanics, physics effects, damage effects, environment interaction options, engaging AI to play against in single player against CPU bots in offline modes, or good AI in the games campaign. It's just crazy how many current video games focus on graphical nitpicking and don't put any effort into the other aspects that make games great. A game can have quirky graphics, due to creative art style, gameplay style, gameplay modes, the list goes on.. idk what happened?
We have seen that even if companies delay games, it isn't improving the quality of games being released. Which is a sign there is a MUCH DEEPER issue going on with modern games. No excuses, devs used to make great games with much less and they would have given anything to have certain capabilities to utilize that are available today. It just takes actual passion, focus & talent to make great games. Sidenote: It's so crazy how many people are still supporting super mega rich companies putting out unacceptable products.. i don't understand certain people. I don't understand how certain companies can be messing up so badly. It's frustrating that other passionate people are not allowed to make a version of a type of game that we used to have but no longer get anymore.. Yet these huge companies get full control over if a unused game gets made & they do everything they can so no other versions of a game idea will ever come out. Even if there's a huge fan base around certain ideas and there's a ton of passionate devs out there dying to make a version of a certain video game idea.. that frustrates me beyond belief
One huge problem for me was that the camera during fights seems to focus on the walls on the opposite side of the battlefield. The first game’s camera was fine, but I had up close views of far off walls during this one. That and the game kicking me to the PS5 UI intermittently. Also, Miles got stuck in the ground and when I reloaded the game, he was still there causing me to restart the game from the beginning. Thankfully, when the last thing happened it was relatively early in the game.
There wasn’t enough of “bully” Peter that shit was rushed…also I wish they showed kraven killing the villains on screen, add more swinging animations, and more basic combat animations.
Glad to finally see criticism that isn’t “it’s woke” or “they nerfed Peter”. Completey agree on the reworked Harry/Peter plot point. Would have improved the pacing of the game and fix the overall disconnectedness of the third act to the overall rest of the story.

One thing that bugged me about Kraven is why does he waste so much time killing these villains rather than going after the man who has defeated these villains many times already? Surely if he wanted the strongest contender/hunt, Peter should’ve logically been the first target from the beginning.

That and there was literally NO buildup when they introduced Kraven. In the first game, you take down Kingpin. Spend some time exploring the city, stopping crimes then a few missions into the story that's when you meet the demons and get into the Mr Negative plot. Kraven had none of that he was too flat and one dimensional
The thing is you can see where this could have been a good game. Remove the MJ missions, remove Venom cause he wasnt nessacery to the game (hated how they did Kraven as i was excited to see him finally get some spotlight only to see him get killed so they could again force the Venom story in where it wasnt necessary). Also, the combat system is just too much. I was able to play the Arkham games back in the day on highest difficulty and barley get touched so i know i can handle that quick reflex fighting system but even i was getting overwhelmed at times. Especially when the symbiotes were all over the city. Also, why was MJ able to just body a large chunk of highly trained mercenarys with nothing but a tazer? And dont tell me its cause she "trained with silver sable" because these mercenarys were also trained and they were guys so they had a natural physical advantage. It was just bad writing. Having said all that, there were things i really enjoyed in the game. Loved the lizard chase, really enjoyed Kraven (up until they decided to throw him overboard so they could shove Venom into the main villian role), and Miles was a solid 2nd Spider Man. But the bad outweighs the good at the end of the day.
Worse part is that the director made the decision to cut out content for the MJ missions just to prove a point 😑
So...Sweet Baby Inc was involved with this game. However, they had nothing to do with the first Spider-Man or Miles Morales. Just food for thought. Also, this whole PP losing his edge cause Miles is younger comes across as idiotic because Parker IS in his prime lol. Like was Michael Jordan in his Prime at 27 or 18? Hmm, last time I checked Jordan was 27 when he won his first championship. That's the biggest issue honestly. Parker is too young. The dynamic doesn't work. It just doesn't make sense.
I would disagree with the critique about Pete and MJ's relationship being stable. It is understandable how MJ would put up with Peter's mess given how they've recently broken up and just got back together. They were and still are patching things up between them so MJ being more sympathetic and patient towards Peter's struggles is understandable as she's been through this before and going back into a relationship with the same person means she's at least ready to deal with the same problems they had before. Getting back together and having a stronger and more stable relationship after a break up isn't uncommon. Insomniac's mistake was doing the Symbiote arc too late into Pete's run as Spider-Man. If this happened 2-4 years earlier into Pete's vigilante career then it would've made sense for MJ to dump him or at the very least distance herself from Peter because they would've still been a new couple at that time and having the Symbiote change your partner's mental state isn't something that a regular person can live with.

I feel like there’s somewhat of an unconscious trend in video game stories, they play it kinda safe. Starfield has 0 edge which deflated ALL tension. The recent MW trilogy also has no edge like the first game, altho MW2019 still played a lot of scenes safe. Maybe edge is the wrong word, but I’ve been feeling a deep lack of satisfaction in more recent gaming stories and how they are told. I’m beginning to flip back to movies because I feel like recent movies have been experimenting with more complex themes that comment on our culture and the things we’ve learned to value in our world for better or worse. Also movies have been getting really forward thinking directors that are exploring new ways to tell a story with really interesting production, taking advantage of the movie medium. I hope to see games change drastically in the future from how they play and how they present themselves. I want more spice, I want to be surprised and my expectations subverted.
I believe that can only be found in games that are Indie-developed, or games by relatively unknown designers. For example, Disco Elysium (tho disco-elysium is not the only example).

One big problem i have with the whole mentor aspect of the insomniac games is that we should've gotten a much older spider man, like in into the spider verse. He's like 24/25, not nearly old enough to have slowed down compared to miles.

Well heres the crazy thing about why the story felt jank in many ways. 1 key reason was the director was trying his ass off to get MJ included into the story from a gameplay perspective that it ruined planned scenerios with Peter and Miles which wouldve fleshed out the story more. I know the whole "woke" argument is stupid when trying to critique a modern game but my god is the guy such a pansy. He knew we didnt like MJ missions and decided to double down on them to spite us. When you start to insult your consumer base, thats when you lose respect as a dev. Naughty Dog did it with TLOU2 and now it seems Insomniac is doing it too. If the rest of the PS Studios start acting like pretentious pricks, this will definitely cause huge backlash

The BV quests, Hailey, and MJ Missions were the only issues gameplay wise to me. Story wise, they really seem to hate Peter and love to praise on Miles for literally no reason. Also, since Miles will be the new main going forward, they better fix his Evolved Suit or so help me.

Man what an amazing video. He cooked again. Like seriously after pointing out all the missed potential with the symbiote arc especially with how well they set everything up it actually frustrates me and worsens a gripe I had when I first beat the game and that was a specific scene in its ending. In Harry's final moments, Peter tells him "I love you" and as someone who has a best friend who I deeply care for even when he's being an absolute dumbass sometimes that one line hit so hard but not hard enough. If we got to see Harry and Peter actually argue and slowly resent each other in all the examples you gave, and after all that he still said that line it would've actually had me bawling. It would've been as good if not better than Dock Ock's and Peter's final conversation and Aunt May's death from the first game.

This game for me is a solid 8/10 but lately I've been jumping between 7.5/10 because the more I think about the story the worst it gets. They should have focused more on Peter than miles because really miles didn't need to be co lead with Peter.

Them being co-leads makes sense but the story was kinda overstuffed with great ideas and okay execution. Peter really did kinda get the short end of the sick because his arc wasn't nearly as well written as miles' was. They could have either made the game a bit longer to be able to properly flesh out his relationships with the other characters in a way that some of the big moments could have felt more impactful. Another solution would be making peter the solo lead like you said. I also found it weird that the S6 were all just killed offscreen.

Cause I never finished spidey 1’s dlc and I tried to go back to finish it to have full context for Spider-Man 2 and I just couldn’t handle how much worse the swinging felt. Like it’s actually bad how good they made this game cause it makes the other ones almost unplayable at a feel level

This summary is almost perfect to make the narrative and game's story better. But there are still more things that are needed to be changed or done better. Peter's conflict affect him like Spider-Man 2 and he loses his powers slowly or be weaker cause of his mental struggles. Peter is way weaker in this game. Even his Spider senses and strength in general. I am not calling Miles weak but WITH VENOM SUIT he upperhanded Peter like a regular boss bandit. They are making Miles TAKE Peter's place instead of making him his OWN hero. Which creates a eeeeh narrative time to time. Even the last boss fight with VENOM is not with Peter which most of the villains in this game are HIS. Like in this game it made me thought like how did he survived without Miles this far. Even in the beggining to the end Peter was a punching bag. And this would BE ACTUALLY great if they tied it to mental struggles like Spider-Man 2 movie. But in the game right now they are just trying to give Miles a spotlight without a proper Saga for neither Peter or Miles to go through and be done with. They need to give him his own identity like "Silk" or smth else. Like this its just feels like oh a kid came and became spiderman better and faster than the OG and OG says oh he is even better than him now and we won't need him. It feels a bit forced.
But that requires talented writers and time which sadly the gaming industry doesn't have.

For real, I agree with the Console Wars talk, from a PC guy perspective who played games on Xbox and PlayStations. They're just hardwares, with some bad games. Not all, some. That's why I switched to PC and just lay low. No fights. Chilled. I took rando's advice and got a life. Can't get a console for just games now. Shit's depressing. PC, nice. Got Emulators. I got to watch stuff. Maybe edit videos. Fun to me. The console wars talk, bullshit for defending their favourite corpos, when they care none at all. That's why some games are shit. But people tolerated shit. That's stupid.
This video made me recontextualize a lot of the problems I had with the games writing (peter being a bit of a doormat, miles feeling like a huge third wheel, and the character conflict that arises as a result of symbiotes). Basically, I was realizing "oh THATS why that felt off" and all sorts of angles I never considered. As well as drawing attention to more well-written parts that I didn't quite fully appreciate.

Definitely agree that the Miles and Harry side of the story could've used a LOT of work and ends up making their part of the final fight not hit nearly as hard as intended, and that Miles feels a tad too disconnected from Pete's side of the story once he gets the black suit, but I REALLY don't think these problems would've been solved by just turning all these characters into petty, jealous assholes. That's like, Harry's default characterization in pretty much everything so seeing a Harry that's genuinely a nice guy and doesn't go into "I hate Spider-Man!" mode the second something goes wrong is honestly refreshing, and to me it only makes his downfall hit all the harder, because Harry really wasn't a petty jealous asshole who let it consume him to become a monster, he was just dealt a shitty hand and got taken advantage of by the Symbiote in his lowest possible moment, but the game still cleverly makes use of Harry's own weakness and desires to tie into the Symbiote's take over the world plan, where it quite literally uses his mom's memory against him to justify turning the world into a hellhole infested by aliens as "healing it." I think that's pretty damn smart, even if I do think it goes from Spider-Man 3 to Web of Shadows 2: The Reckoning a bit TOO quick.
And about Peter's insecurities relating to Miles, well, I think that goes back to what you said in this very video: it doesn't need to be literal, and it DEFINITELY doesn't need to be shoved in our faces by having Peter turn into a petty, jealous asshole. The game makes pretty clear Peter already feels weaker than Miles just by showcasing the power difference between them, both in cutscene and in gameplay, but Peter doesn't have any reason to be annoyed or jealous about that because, you know, he's an adult, it's pretty reasonable to believe he doesn't let that kinda shit get to him because he knows it's stupid and immature, and trying to create conflict between them using that as a crutch would've made Peter look like exactly that: stupid and immature, which he's most definitely not. But it doesn't mean those thoughts aren't there, again, the games makes you see and feel how much more powerful Miles is and it only exacerbates that when it introduces the Symbiote by literally having Harry use it to save a couple people who Spider-Man wasn't going to be able to save. That's his first impression of the Symbiote, and it's the perfect way to foreshadow Peter's dependency on it later on: he quite literally sees it doing what he couldn't, saving lives when he would've let them die, just like May.
And that's the real issue here isn't it? Peter hasn't moved on from May nearly as much as we thought, and the Symbiote takes advantage of that and that exclusively and uses it to twist EVERYTHING else into it's favor, just like it did with Harry and his dream of healing the world. Why should he give the suit back, it makes him stronger, if he's stronger, less people die, if less people die, he's a better Spider-Man, if he was a better Spider-Man, *Aunt May wouldn't have died.* It's an extremely destructive and sad cycle that he lives everyday, but that the Symbiote dials up to eleven until it starts destroying him, making him act and consider doing things he'd never do even at his lowest, because it's quite literally a voice in his ear justifying said actions to him as "being a better Spider-Man."
And I REALLY don't see how that doesn't tie into Miles' own arc, because he just spent the whole game trying to do exactly that, become a better Spider-Man, his mom said it herself, because just like Peter, he blames himself for the people in his life dying due to forces outside of his control, and is convinced that if he WAS a better Spider-Man, that wouldn't have happened, so he pushes people away, tries harder and harder to become stronger and to not let anyone get hurt again, becoming increasingly paranoid that Li will pop up at any second to kill someone else he cares about, and he could've easily fell into the same trap Peter fell into due to the Symbiote of believing he can fix anything as long as he's a good enough Spider-Man, but it's through fighting Li that he understands that he's only holding himself back of being Miles Morales by thinking like that, that fighting and hurting and even killing Li won't change anything or magically erase his anxieties and fears, HE is the one who has to face them if he ever wants them to go away, and that his dad didn't die because he wasn't a good enough or because he didn't have enough power, like Peter is convinced is the case by this point in the narrative, but because people with too much power didn't use it responsibly and decided their problems and their anger was more important than other people's lives, and now Peter is dangerously close to that kind of mentality as well, so when they fight, to me at least, it's the perfect culmination of their arcs so far in this story: Peter's downfall and Miles' ascension, where Miles uses what he learned in moving past his own guilt and hatred to bring Peter out of his own, and the best part is that Miles himself says that if he got the suit, if he started thinking that it could stop the people in his life from dying, he would very well be in Peter's shoes now. He's not better than Peter, as Peter himself desperately cries out in the beginning of the fight (or as the entirety of Twitter cried out the second the game launched), he's just been given a new perspective that isn't affected by sentient alien goo that wants to take over his body. He knows Peter is better than this, and he knows Peter would never mean shit like "I made you, you owe me!" or "You just want the suit for yourself so you can be the stronger one again!" because that's, again, stupid and immature and was never the real issue.
Maybe Peter did feel weaker than Miles, and maybe Peter did like feeling like the top dog again, but it was never out of a sense of ego and superiority or any Spider-Man 3 esque bullshit, it was about being the best version of himself he could because since May died, he's constantly felt like he's anything but. Of course Miles of all people wouldn't hold it against him and of course he would understand, he quite literally just got done going through the same shit. And saying that nobody got mad at Peter for how he acted is just blatant lying because being treated like shit and seemingly left to die is exactly what made Harry angry and desperate enough to lash out and become Venom in the first place, and what made MJ quietly resent Peter and Spider-Man even more (though I agree that their lack of tangible conflict for like 70% of the game does harm the Scream boss fight, even though I like the conclusion, half the shit she throws at you there feels like it comes out of nowhere even though I know it doesn't).
It's definitely not perfect, and I absolutely agree that the first game has a more consistent narrative and execution of said narrative, but I think there's a lot more here than you're giving credit to. Still, great video, well articulated points and criticism that actually felt like genuine arguments instead of half assed Twitter rants, for some reason most reviews of this game I've seen are like that.

I agree that in other adaptations that Harry is just a petty asshole and he has been pretty uncompelling there. But it would’ve been nice (in my opinion) if they combined him being a genuinely good person with some preexisting flaws. Maybe have him have an addictive personality even before he gets the symbiote, which would make him even more sympathetic imo once he becomes Venom.

I loved the game, but it did feel like they removed some of the cool stuff from the first game. I loved the choice of gadgets and powerups in the first game. Mostly, i missed the "Web Blossom" move, which was my favorite.
They removed them so you wouldn’t be able to rely on gadgets constantly

I'm late to the party but I just found out about this UA-cam channel by sheer chance. It's good to hear a video game review by somebody who plays both systems. I don't care which system a game is on just that it's good.

Despite loving this game, there are a ton of actual problems, which were covered really well here, especially with the segments of what they could have done differently.
All in all, even if I love this game to bits, it is not a masterpiece. But this video feels like one

The game is really not a masterpiece, but it's just so fun to play despite all its flaws. Never got bored during my playthrough.
Some of the side mission did make me say "UGHH" out loud, but still wasn't enough to make me hate the game. The gameplay is THAT good and addicting

I will agree that R&C: Rift Apart was pretty mediocre too, shame cuz that's one of my fav franchises from them as well as Resistance which they let die, such a great PS3 era series. I'll keep an open mind about Wolverine but I'm worried at the same time.

It’s when I see videos like this that make me realize how much thought has to be put into a story. I have so much respect for writers that manage to pull this shit off.
As an Xbox guy I bought PS5 last year to play Ragnarok. I played and beat this game and couldn't understand all the hype. It was good but people act like it's 20/10, best game of the century. It's not.
Miles Morales is a terrible character. Having 2 Spider-Men in the same series was a stupid move and makes it feel over saturated.
Your new take on the Peter-Miles-Harry dynamic with Peter's insecurities of feeling weak to the other two, then keeping that perspective in mind when Pete's dialogue lines vs Miles are playing was incredibly powerful. What a great take. Shame that it makes the actual conflict in the game at that moment feel even more empty than it already did for me.
Peter handing the mantle to Miles makes sense pragmatically since his personal life is falling apart exclusively because he's too busy being Spider-Man, but the concept alone of falls flat when it's been shown in the comics before that Peter eventually finds balance. Could've worked IMO if Peter was way older, like pushing 35, not 25. Hell in Spider-Verse, Peter B is literally that balance (still Spider-Man, eventually gets back with MJ, has Mayday, and is still 616's Spider-Man, while pushing 40 I think).
I guess this would be fixed in Spider-Man 3 if Peter comes back (and he should tbh, cause let's be real, people would wanna play as both spiders no matter the context)
Venom being a generic bad guy separate from the host body is super lame. He's supposed to be an amplification of a host's negative traits. Even the Venom movies understood how symbiotes work better than this game lol
Also I agree about the lack of natural tension between the good guys. During peace time, WHY ARE THEY ALL SO CHILL???

Venom didn’t make Peter bad it just brought out the dick Peter was in the comics. Peter was a jerk who did the right thing with venom he was a jerk who didn’t do the right thing.
My biggest story gripe was when MJ wrote that article about Spider-Man being bad after his chase with the lizard. Like she blamed him for things the lizard did. That’s EXACTLY what JJJ does too. I would like to see any superhero without super speed or flight take down a literal dinosaur in a populated city without causing any damage. It’s probably impossible but somehow she blamed the destruction on Pete like he hadn’t been chasing after it the whole time and was getting shot at for half the time. Story was definitely more spectacle but less weight which is a trade off I’m mixed about lol
You know that part of the destruction was of Peter's fault, right?
he decided to go alone, he didn't even ask Miles for help or tried to mitigate the damage Lizards was causing.
It's not entirely his fault, but it's not an innocent either.
While I do have my gripes with this game the article os not one of them as I feel people are forgetting that Peter was reckless and unlike his regular fights people got hurt.
In the first game with helicopter fight you see Peter trying to minimize property damage and most importantly civilian injury but here Peter doesn't and doesn't care to.
In the game you see Lizard jump on a moving bus and knocks it on it's side and plows into a moving train causing it to derail all the while Peter isn't stopping to help and see if people need his help(which is something a hero does)but instead he continues to go about the chase as Lizard is throwing cars around.
MJ confirmed that people did get seriously got hurt and Peter doesn't seem to care one bit.

Even worse later on that fight, Peter was calling weak and a lot of deep shit to Connors like "you're so weak tha'ts why your family left you" so Peter wan't being the best there, he was definitely bad in that moment.
@@Rosy-uz5ldGetting help from Miles would have been really good but Peter was affected by the symbiote so his mind wasn't in the right; I'm not sure anyone can be blamed with a situation like his. Just like how I i don't blame Mary Jane for things she said when she was Scream. Peter didn't even choose the symbiote, it chose him and later on he was affected negatively by it in terms of his behavior.
A criticism of your comment if I may have is how could having Miles be more helpful in terms of minimizing the damages done by lizard when a symbiote-amped Peter is still struggling to put him down?
@@Slightly-Acceptable-Nerd Two Spider-Man's are better than one, he could have helped in putting the lizard down or distracting him to not cause a lot of damage or even stop some of the destruction they both were doing and the participation of the hunters.
Also Mary Jane scream sections the things she said are real, she just didn't want to say in that way but Mj was feeling real about it, Peter nedeed to hear those things so he can take their relationship more seriously and stopped using his "responsability" as a jail free card for every situation.
Now, i'm telling you, Peter was in symbiote control yeah but the consquences of his actions are still there, he almost killed mj, he ignored connors warnings, he was the principal reason why harry became venom at the end. He is not free of the fault of doing all of thoe things, he needed to do better that's why he was so rushed to help harry as fast as possible in the final arc of the game.

People were calling Spiderman 2 a masterpiece? Dont get me wrong, its a great game, a fantastic game even, but not on the level of Breath of the Wild / Tears of the Kingdom or Baldur's Gate 3.

I have a feeling the DLC’s for this game will be longer than the ones we’ve gotten before cause this game felt so short. Also Peter does mention daredevil in the game so we might see him in dlc.

I never saw colors and lights so beautiful before..The thing that stuck with me the most...This unbelievable sense of love i felt. Like i was coming home. Returning to a place I've been. But somehow, long forgotten 😮 Totally put my mind at peace after experiencing that when it comes to death..Wouldn't wish a crash like that on anyone. But take comfort in my words. .❤
