What M M Said. No need to remove the calipers. These Type of calipers are amazing! I wish changing brakes were all this easy! Keep up the awesome Vids!
I'm doing my brakes on my GTR here in April 2018 and this video is a huge help! I actually bought the same brake pads too. Thanks for all of the great content, Goodezilla!
I love that you leave in where you get hung up on parts, lord knows this will help me when I attempt this later on when I get a GTR lol. But its nice to see the whole process, and the use of speed ups over cuts is the best i feel. Only this is that it was a little hard to hear you for the rear brakes, but other than that, top video mate!
+Danny I Hey thank you for the feedback. I like to include everything, even the parts where I get held up. I use UA-cam to learn how to do things I'm not sure of, and when people give a lot of detail I really appreciate it, so I "TRY" to do the same thing for others. My bad on the low audio on the rear part, my main camera battery died and I had to use a different camera, so I guess the microphone was picking up audio as well. Thank you for watching!
TLDR Version: Another great, informative video...Thank you, Goodezilla! Long winded, rambling thoughts: 1) I'm amazed by how well the caliper finish has held up over 25 years. I was slightly tempted to paint my calipers, but there is no way I could match the durability of the original finish. 2) If I'm correct with cross-applications, then I should be able to buy a front brake hardware set for about $50. It would give a little bit of extra piece-of-mind and look pretty sharp. 3) I did some light cross-application research this morning and it looks like the brakes are the same as: some early 1990s Z-cars and some early 2000s Subarus. To verify, I'll be considering a trip to the junk yard. I'm always looking for a good excuse to spend an hour wandering those little slices of heaven!
+Mar Brooks Hey thank you for the comment! The finish has held up pretty well, though the mileage on the car is pretty low, might have something to do with it. I think the Z32 300ZX's have the same calipers, but different size rotors. Let me know what what you find out! Would be good to know!
+GoodeZilla I saw one Forester and two 300ZXs, all three already had their calipers removed. :( On the plus side, I'm thinking the Z-car's parking brake boot might be the same. I took pictures and could've just bought one, but I didn't feel like taking apart the consoles. I just want to know if they are the same, so I can order a OEM part from here in the US.
mate you do realise you have to reuse the brake shims right? the 2 pieces of metal on the old pads that the piston actually touches instead of directly onto the pads.
+clutch23q Thank you for the info. I wasn't sure if they needed to go on there because the new pads didn't come with them. I'll put them back on when I get a chance. I'll make a note on the video about it too. I appreciate the attention to detail. Cheers!
thanks for the video! Did you confirm the part number on those hawk hps pads? (HB178F.564 and HB179F.630). I ask because if I search the part numbers the pads are around $65 for each set. But if I search for the same pads by using "R32 Skyline GTR" the "GTR" tax is added and its around $180 for both.
I'm not sure what you mean by confirm the part number. I used those pads in this video and they work...so I guess that's confirmation. Yeah if you know the part numbers, go with that. If you try to find anything with GTR in the name there will be the name tax more times than not.
I have the same pads on my R32. LOVE them. Huge difference over stock. How are your rotors doing? Also, is that a Subway garage mat? Where did you get that?!??
Yeah buddy definitely a big difference. Rotors are good. No dips or uneven ripples, all smooth. It is a subway mat lol. It came from a subway of course.
+Nismo GTR Today, I visited the Skyline Casino and thought of your Subway mat post. This casino has walk-off mats labeled "Skyline." Maybe some day I'll go back and try to buy one.
@@Goodezilla Thanks a ton man!! (by the way your Amazon store appears to be down at the moment) Got me a super clean GTR a couple days ago with only one issue - rusted/seized front calipers. I wish I had decided to do the work myself instead of taking it to a shop! Now I won't see my GTR again until next week 😭
@@resolvingparadox1388 yeah i need to update it. Amazon stopped doing that type of store. If you want to help me out just go to www.goodezilla.com/amazon before buying anything on Amazon and it has me as the referral and it helpse out. I try to put the links to all the parts I use in the video in the description of the videos.
Nice video man...keep em coming! You're making some great content. I just favorited this video. Will come in handy for whenever I get my GTR n need to do the same. But damn those pads were pretty shot. You're lucky ur rotors ain't warped n u could have still stopped the car somehow lol. Btw to be clear on something, u have to remove to brake line bracket in fronts but u don't on the rears right?
+ivorton23 Hey thank you for the comment. Yeah the pads were pretty low. but the rotors are still in good shape. That's right you have to remove the bracket in the front but not the rear. A note on that is there are 2 bolts and the bolt more to the front of the car is the one to remove, you only have to loosen the other to get enough play. But if you have a spreader tool I've been told in the comments below you don't even have to take the caliper off. you can just pull the pads out and then use the spreader tool to push the pistons back in while the caliper is still mounted.
+GoodeZilla also I forgot to put those brake shims or whatever and I don't feel like pulling off the caliper again cuz that was a bitch is it bad if I don't put em back

and now im here for actual knowledge lol changing my pads as we speak thanks for the help :D

JohnnyNismo awesome man, thank you for the kind words.
Lots of help when I get my gtr
was about to say the same thing as all the other previous post, glad you figured it out. brembos are similar, you only pull out the pads...

what brake pads are you using, are they the same as the 300zx ?
...lol
Great video. This will help when I change front pads and discs on my R32 GTS-T soon :)
Which part number is for the rear? Im assuming the hb179f.630?
By any chance do you know where I can get the calipers 1 piston??
Nice vid, I just did the r33 vspec brembo brake swap on my 32 and also changed the bmc. Bmc came from a r34gtr
+Osaka living sweet! I'd like to do that one day too!
For this swap do have to change the bmc?
+ant4hellfire yes I went with a r34 gtr BMC

Nice video! Out of curiosity how come you didn’t get the rotors resurfaced? Isn’t it frowned upon to replace pads without cutting the rotors? Thanks
Sohail Ahmed thank you, they only need to be turned if they have an uneven surface.
Thanks for all your videos! Keep up the good work!
+manchestertreble Thank you for watching!

Anyone know how ebc brakes compare to OEM skyline brakes I have a gts25 er32

+Mar Brooks that would be pretty cool to have. Let me know how that works out!
You cab use Toyota vigo brake pad (4X4)
Have you gotten around to doing the brake booster yet?
No, haven't had a reason to replace it.
Ok so 4 pads come in one box for the front of the car right?
I hope so because I only bought 1 box each of the parts you specified. LOL
Yes front box includes both sides. 4 pads. Thank you for the support!

Have a question, r32 brake can fit 15 inch rim?
I don't know. They come with 16“ wheels stock. So probably not, but I could be wrong.
No, they only fit 16+. You need a decent offset to clear them, or hubcentric spaces.
Source: Me trying to fit them over the weekend to my 2000 P11 GT.

+GoodeZilla oh well that's even better...less work...these cars are amazing
I doubt that factory brakes is enough for the car now even though with pad changing.
I bought the pads but they don't fit in the caliper but the ones that say "rear" fit.
Do you have Bremo or nissan/summitomo calipers?
+GoodeZilla OEM like you
+GoodeZilla I'm gunna try the other ones I have maybe they fucked up in the label
+GoodeZilla also I forgot to put those brake shims or whatever and I don't feel like pulling off the caliper again cuz that was a bitch is it bad if I don't put em back
Awesome video! Do you know if those pads linked will work for 94 r32 GTR still stock? Cheers!
If they use the summitomo calipers yes. If you have the brembo's no they won't.
Where are the shims.
I just use big screw driver between rotor an old brake pad to push piston back .
No need to remove caliper
Are those rota grid bro?
they seem to be to me, that's the rota logo on the center caps.
What rotors are those?
jlopez0710 stock I assume. They were on the car when I bought it.
rb25 or 26?
+Sopa RB26, it's a GT-R.
+GoodeZilla oww thanks !
🤣😂😅😭🤣😅
