    Drivers side drive shaft comes out complete, with a long screw driver and a few sharp hits with a lump hammer. Shaft is held in diff with a locking spring and the diff housing does not need to come off. DO NOT replace drive boots like this, its the long and hard way.

    Hey man, thanks for the video. I had to replace my front diff, and I've never messed with axles before. This video helped me out a whole lot.
    I do have to mention though. I used an arm remover similar to what you had to pop my track rod arms out, and it ended up crushing the top threads on the arms (on both sides). Also on one side it ended up tearing into the boot on the arm. I could've done something wrong, and maybe it was my fault, but it's definitely something that I would suggest being very careful with. Also after the damage was already done, I learned that those arms can be removed by just hitting the side holding the stud in with a rubber mallet. A couple of good whacks and the arm popped out on its own.

      @BerserkFury89 8 років тому +1

      Also forgot to mention. I don't think it's necessary to remove the brakes either. I didn't remove mine and they didn't get in the way at all.

    • @Goodezilla
      @Goodezilla  8 років тому

      +BerserkFury89 I'm glad the video helped you out. I've seen people use hammers to get the ball joints loose before too. I just happened to have the ball joint breaker and used it, no issues. I'm sorry yours ended up broken :( Nice to know it can be down without removing the brakes, the less I have to take apart the better lol.

      +BerserkFury89 Im trying to get more tips before I do my front outer boot. You said you dont have to remove the brakes/rotors etc? You just disconnected everything else to pull away the axle? Thanks

    • @Goodezilla
      @Goodezilla  8 років тому

      Tom, you can just disconnect the steering tie rod, the sway bar, and the lower ball joint connecting the hub to the suspension.

    Don't have to open the diff cover to pop the axle out. Looking at the axle from right side, jam two45 degree pry bars in to the grooves (they are really in there), pry it, and the axle should come out.

    This video should get pulled and given a edit, no need to open the diff. The shaft comes out with a pinch bar and a hammer. And replace your inner seal while your at it . If i didn't read the comments i would wasted my time. Its cool he made the video and it was helpful but its the long hard way to do this

    Maybe I missed it but did not see you put the spring clip that feel off in the hsg back on the shaft?

    • @Goodezilla
      @Goodezilla  5 років тому

      If you're talking about the C clip that holds the axle shaft in the front diff... That C clip stays in the diff and just needs force on the shaft to pop it free.

  • @greenfigaro9624
    @greenfigaro9624 8 років тому

    Thank you for the video, the parts links are much appreciated, as they can save endless time spent researching. Is there a reason you "pushed" the axle out, versus "pulling" the axle out? In the past, I always pulled the axles when switching them. Kudos for replacing the boot, yourself, as I 've always just exchanged for axles already rebooted.

    • @Goodezilla
      @Goodezilla  8 років тому +1

      +Mar Brooks Thank you, I'm glad I can help anyone that is going through the same situation. That is my goal with making these types of videos, as I know youtube videos can be a great help. I pushed the axle out because the only thing holding the axle to the cup in the differential is the boot, and that was ripped. It's possible to pry out the cup but is very difficult. The R32 repair manual says to do it the way I did in the video, so that's how I went about doing it. At one point I didn't think I'd be able to get the diff cover off, so I was going to have to pry it out, but I ended up getting the diff cover off and went ahead with the repair manual way :)

    That line from the diff is the vent line and it was put into the engine bay to prevent water from getting in the diff and ruining it and so it airs out the diff I guess lol

    • @Goodezilla
      @Goodezilla  8 років тому

      Yeah I guess that could be it or to stop any oil from leaking out if the diff through the nipple. If it ends up being a problem I'll put a new hose on there somehow.

    • @kieranwhoriskey7270
      @kieranwhoriskey7270 8 років тому +1

      Any assembly with moving parts inside of it requires a vent line to stop pressure build up that could blow the seals or gasket.

  • @jryanwill

    Wheel full lock right, Disconnect coilover, remove split pin, remove cover, undo 36 mm bolt with rattle gun, drop castor rod knuckle bolts and tierod, pull wheel hub towards back of car, pull shaft out. Easier then it sounds. Don't go near the diff. This video is bad advice and will cause you misery.
    As Stewart says below, the drivers CV shaft comes out complete, may just need some persuasion. See his comment.

    • @Goodezilla
      @Goodezilla  8 років тому

      +Ian Batley Bad advice? I followed the service manual instructions.

    • @Ian-pp7pj
      @Ian-pp7pj 8 років тому

      +GoodeZilla I have done the above several times, I have never removed the front housing from a R32 GTR front diff. I have owned four of these cars and done everything imaginable to them, all you need to do to get the CV shaft out is to give it a knock with a hammer and a screwdriver, after removing the outside spline from the hub. You had stripped enough components (9:58) to do this without removing the diff cover.

    • @Goodezilla
      @Goodezilla  8 років тому +1

      Ian Thank you for the information. I know it's possible to use a crow bar and/or big screw driver to pop it out now. But as it was my first time on these cars, I was just following the service manual's directions. Though I know they probably only recommend taking the front diff cover off so that they can charge you for the labor and oil that they replace as well as the boot if you were to take it to a dealership in Japan to get the work done. Again thank you for watching and the information is helpful.

    • @Ian-pp7pj
      @Ian-pp7pj 8 років тому +2

      +GoodeZilla It's ok, sorry if I was a bit rude about it. The purpose of my comment is to stop other people following the same procedure that you did in your video, needlessly wasting their diff oil and potentially introducing leaks to their diff (believe me these cars leak enough fluid as it is without adding more) - Some oil will come out of the inner diff hub that the shaft came out of, but it will be a minimal amount and if you are well prepared you can block the hole off quickly and not loose any fluid. That said, at the age of these cars replacing diff fluid may not be a bad idea anyway, but it's not necessarily part of CV shaft removal and I would *never* break the factory seal on the diff housing unless I was replacing the front diff internals and absolutely had to.
