    If you're watching this video, I'm hoping that it's not because you are experiencing the pain of a nail allergy but if you are, there is hope! Since filming this video, I have learned so much more about not only my nail allergy but about nail allergies in general. Once you are finished watching the video, please take some time to read the comments and my responses. There is a ton more information in my responses as I answer general and more specific questions regarding, HEMA, acrylates copolymers, ingredient lists and how to help yourself heal. I'm happy to hear from you so if you have a more specific question or want to tell me your experience, please leave me a comment! If you would like to see more nail art videos, you can find me on Instagram at nailartqueenie where I do almost daily videos of nail art! 👑
    *Just a disclaimer that I am not a doctor and don't claim to be. I am someone who suffers from a really bad allergy and I use my experience to guide others towards healing. Please see a doctor for any health issues you many be experiencing.

      You may not even be allergic to HEMA. It may be the acrylates copolymers in the polish. Try the HEMA free and see what happens. Hopefully you’ll have good results! 🥰👑

      Your video was suggested to me because I watched The Salon Life videos about nail allergy- which I definitely have. I screenshot your nail damage pics at the beginning because mine looks the same. I thought I had damaged my nails with the Efile, too much pressure or too rough a bit, but it’s probably the uncured gel. I am hopeful my damage grows out as yours is doing, and I’m optimistic because you get such good results with Orly polish and I always have too. 😊

Like 3 days fast😳😱 again Thank You I was on my way to the doctor anyway I had to go but after seeing your video at least I knew what was going on. Lots of medications later I’m healing fast.❤️👏🙏 Thanks Agin ps isn’t it odd no one what this information out here either….

    The Salon Life Channel has some excellent videos about gel allergies. Because of her, I can now do regular polish manicures on my natural nails that last 2 weeks and even resemble gel nails to some degree. And my nails and surrounding tissue are healthy and intact. After listening to her info, I'm surprised we don't hear about more of these allergies.

    I developed a gel allergy like yours last year. i let my nails grow, and gave it another shot with a new lamp. even though i was still itchy and my skin was really dry around my nails, there was no lifting of the nail. that is because it did polymerized fully with the new lamp while the previous left it wet in some places. i had my nails with normal polish for june, july and august and the begining of this month i tried agin to do gel. i did not use a non-wipe topcoat and i had 0 irritation. I used some transparent gel that they said you could leave as a topcoat. So i used that, i cleaned the stickiness thorougly with acetone, 2-3 times and then washed my hands very well. 0 irritation for 2 weeks. Then i redid my nails but used the no-wipe topcoat I had used in the past and after a couple of hours the itching started. i left it overnight and it continued to the next day, and dryness started appearing to my cuticles so I removed it. i did my nails again after 2 days without the no-wipe topcoat and they have been fine for the past 10 days. So I think for me, the irritation comes from gel that is not well polymerised and some chemical in no-wipe topcoats.

    • @hellonails414
      @hellonails414  2 роки тому +3

      I’m wondering if you could do an ingredient comparison between the topcoat that does not cause an irritation, and the topcoat that does cause you irritation and see what the differences are? That could answer all your questions right there. Just a thought. Thank you so much for sharing! ~Q👑

    I went to urgent care today to discover or really confirm that my allergy is to gel nails. My fingers were swollen and numb and Dr. told me to take the polish off immediately it was shellac I was later told if that is gel, I was also trying to do from home and my nails were lifting by using the gel nail kit, so thank you for making this video. It’s helped me understand more and I’ll keep researching it to.

    FINALLY! So glad I found you! I too developed an allergy to gel polish! I loved my gel nails because it lasted and helped my nails to not break when I would do things. I thankfully caught it in time so there was damage but no where near some of the google pics I searched! I have gone back to using plain Jane nail polish and little to no acetone since I still have some rough patches around my cuticles. I already have eczema and since my sister had an out break on her hands I thought it was just hormones changing and it was my turn to deal with it but I wasnt having outbreaks anywhere else. So I narrowed it down to the gel. I found that HEMA in gel is one of the main causes and so I tried a "HEMA free" gel, nope! Immediately had to remove it as it started to burn and itch. I HATE the dry time on regular polish. I enjoy doing my nails, it's part of my "me" time or something I can do with my daughter. I wish I could find a way to have my manicure last longer than a couple of days, I have chipping after I do dishes or alot of water contact. I'd never heard of this allergy before but then again I barely started to used gel polish about 3 years ago and just in the last 6 months developed the allergy to gel polish.

      Hey there!! I hope you’re starting to heal up and get better! I would recommend using gloves for dishes and any chores around the house to protect your nails. Water is the Devil! Lol Also try Sally Hansen Cuticle Rx. You can find it in the drug store. It’s amazing!! I’ve been using it for a while now and my nails have improved so much! I also assumed my problem was eczema!! I ended up leaving the gel on for WAY long than I should have (and even doing another set) because I thought it was eczema/psoriasis. I am currently growing out my nails and it SUCKS, they're so burned and ugly, and the nails are separating :(
      I have some "plain jane" polish I'm planning to try once they're grown out- I got Nailtopia "All Free" allergen free polish. Someday I will try gels again, I have Madam Glam which is supposed to be hypoallergenic.

    Thanks for this - I had been doing my nails for almost a whole year before I started getting a reaction, thankfully I stopped the instant I noticed that things weren't quite right so the only nails that started to lift were my pinkies and the flaky skin was only limited to underneath the nails everywhere else (the hyponychium) can't stress how important it is that if you are having gels done or doing your own nails, if there is any sign of anything unusual, however small, STOP immediately! It only gets worse but they can make a recovery if you stop right away. Mine took about 3 months to grow back and for the flakiness to go away, even though the signs were only slight. I now stick to standard lacquer and they're fine. Sure, it doesn't last as long but I'd rather than than the alternative!

Thanks so much for sharing! XOXO :)

    Hi Queenie! Know its been a while, but so glad I found your video! I hate that you or any other girl is going through this, so sad. I’ve been doing my own gel nails for a couple years now with no problem but a couple months ago it all changed. The biggest thing I know I did different was I started chrome powder with a nowipe top coat. Mine didnt get so bad that it affected my skin, just the nails. Thick skin under edge of nail and lifting for sure. My biggest question as I watched your video is wether or not its safe to use regular polish? Will it just prolong the healing process or not. Hard to resist when they look so ugly. Just wanna cover them up!

    I appreciate your transparency about your allergy experience and education about Nail allergies in general. It’s unfortunate this knowledge and these disclaimers weren’t as prevalent before when we all jumped on the gel nails diy at home kits. I love how your mani turned out in this video. However I would also like to point out that the same can occur with latex. You can develop an allergy to latex with repeated exposure to it so I don’t recommend the latex barrier that’s being mass marketed to nail enthusiasts.

    Yes! I didn’t know what it was until I saw this video. I think I have been in denial about what’s happening to my hands. I started with a dip method and quickly became allergic to those fluids with respiratory problems. So I quit dipping and was using the Gel method/fluids with the powder. I thought I had found my answer. A couple of months into gel manicures on myself with builder gel I’ve started having peeling and cracking lifting under some of my nails. It’s very disturbing and painful. I am absolutely gutted that I have to give up my beloved gel polish manis especially having invested so much money and products. This video is giving me some hope that I am not relegated to having ugly, Peeling, diseased looking nails for the rest of my life. Thanks for posting your story and for giving me some hope. ☀️

      I’m glad this video helped you. My suggestion is to put absolutely nothing on your nails except lots of cuticle oil. I love the CND Solar Oil. I get it from Amazon then stick with regular polish. So far the only regular polish I can’t use that I’ve tried is the Sally Hansen Gels in the clear bottles. The concentration of acrylates co-polymers is very high on the ingredient list and just does not work for me. I get a reaction within the first couple days of wearing it. I know it’s very frustrating but trust me, you will have a much better outcome and longer stronger Nails if you just use patience and a lot of cuticle oil! You can check out my Instagram at nailartqueenie for my nail art. I use tips but not because my nails are not long and strong, it’s because with my RA, it’s just easier. But you can see in one of my natural nail pictures, the one with the blue nail polish that my nails are very long and strong and look great now. Lol. I also recommend trying a lot of Indie brands as they are cruelty free and have less toxic ingredients. If you follow my Instagram, you will see that I list everything that I use in my designs and there are many indie brands there. Keep in mind that although I use tips I still cannot use any type of gel on them because they still irritate my skin. Hope this helps!! ~Q👑

    Exactly the same thing happened to me with Orly gel polish 2017. And just recently with Gelish. Different lamps so I think it’s gel polish in general that’s the culprit for me. Back to normal polish, but I still use IBX with lamp but no gel polish anymore.

      Hi Louise! Thank you for your comments. I do ask that we only give our own experiences with our comments such as what products caused the problem, etc. Since we do not know biologically what causes the allergies, I ask everyone to refrain from blaming other illnesses like Covid as we have no proof of that. My own allergy didn’t come out of nowhere. It was months and years of exposure to the chemicals. Also, just as a side note, everyone’s allergies seem to stem from different issues. Some people are allergic to HEMA, or acrylates copolymers like myself. I don’t recommend any nail polish products to anyone because I don’t know what their specific allergy is. It is up to them and their doctor to determine the root cause and the following treatment plan. I do recommend using no products on the nails during an active reaction except natural oils to keep the nails hydrated but ask your doctor even before doing that. Thanks so much for your thoughts! Also, please feel free to read my main pinned comment for more information regarding some frequently asked questions. Have a great weekend! 👍🏼

    Far more common than not, these gel allergies are popping up EVERYWHERE and I am also a victim (with nasty results). I have always have thin, misshapen nails so my natural nails have never been even remotely nice to look at. Now I am using full cover press-ons, preparing them like natural nails with bonder, polish and top coat (curing every step) but I do all of this BEFORE applying them over my natural (stubs). I use glue and sticky tabs and they last 1-2 weeks for me (by then I am already bored and want a new colour). No damage to my natural nails after removal and I am not embarrassed to show my hands. Thanks for bringing more awareness to this issue.

    I had an allergy reaction to gel polish in 2017 from doing home gel manicures. It took me a while to understand what exactly I was allergic to as I had thought it was my lamp to being with . So I bought a brand new lamp, then found out I had the same problems. My nails constantly itched and had a burning sensation along with looking a bit swollen. Luckily my nails didn't fall off but I could see under my nails that my skin turned reddish brown. I attemped gel nails again at a salon in 2020 but the itchiness came back and I had them removed asap. Nowadays I just use the dipping system and I haven't had any reactions, but I make sure if I'm doing it at home I wear a face mask and will vacuum immediately after finishing.
    So glad I found this video, I tried looking up back in 2017 what I was experiencing and I couldn't find anything. This is the first vid I've seen that I can recognise and relate with. Hope all is well :)

      It just started with some tingling and itchiness before my skin started getting so dry that it hurt. The second question is hard because I kept wearing gel polish even after the symptoms started as I had no idea that was the cause. However, the best I cash say is immediately after putting on the polish, the symptoms would worsen. I hope that helps and I hope you feel better soon! 👑

    Ladies, gel nails allergy is way more serious than you think. I read all the comments and I can see you are all sad because you can’t wear gel nails anymore. That’s a minor thing believe me. I had the same allergy after getting gel nails. However, the implications of acrylates//HEMA allergies are far more serious. It means you might not be able to get a knee or hip replacement should you need one later in life, not able to wear contact lenses or have cataract surgery, or even have dental work done because you can have a severe reaction to acrylates present in crowns, dental filler, braces cement, etc. acrylates are widely used in medicine. Please be careful and stop using gels, acrylics, or dip powder all together. If you develop an allergy to them, you’ll be sorry for the rest of your life as I am.

    • @hellonails414
      @hellonails414  Рік тому

      Thank you for your input. Just a friendly reminder that everyone’s experiences are different just like allergies are personal for each person who experiences them. People who have had gel or acrylics for years are often not familiar with other processes of getting their nails done so they may say they’re upset they can’t do it anymore which I completely understand. So I don’t think they’re not taking things seriously, it just a reaction to the understanding that they won’t be able to use that anymore. As someone who wore acrylics and gels for 20+ years, I totally relate with that feeling. Thanks again for your input. Many people don’t realize how this allergic reaction can impact their lives because many people don’t realize that those chemicals are used in dental and medical procedures. Always inform your doctor that you have an allergy so it can be discussed. Have a great day and thanks for watching! 👑

    Oh my goodness! I had the same experience. I take such pride in having my nails done and since moving out of state I had to find a new nail salon. I found a place and the guy did great, he was out & another lady helped and it was an overall unpleasant experience and the start of the nail allergy reaction. My cuticles were itchy and swollen, my hands felt extremely hot, that clusters of bumps and just like you had the nail separate from the nail bed, think skin under the nail bed too. It’s been a year since still have the think skin under the nails. I recently came across gel x and did a set when I took them off I saw some tiny lines in nail bed but didn’t think much of it and redid my nails. Today I look them off and half my nails are blood red! The tips of my fingers are all chapped and on two fingers I have huge gashes. It’s horrible but here I go again to step one. I guess it’s back to nail stickers for me. 😔

      Ouch! I'm so sorry that's happening. You mentioned that it's been a year... are you still trying to put product on your nails? Even regular polish? My suggestion is to keep your nails completely bare and oil them once a day with jojoba oil and vitamin E oil. You need to do this for 3-6 months to see some healing. I would highly recommend seeing a dermatologist or allergist as well as one allergy could have quite possibly triggered another. Please take a moment to read thru my responses to other commenters. I've been through the same thing, my hands looked like something out of a horror film 😱 I used argan and jojoba oils (best you can afford) and Aveeno original unfragranced thick cream (in the tube not the pump) is a total life saver. I also made little caps from a mixture of medical gauze inner and micropore tape outside that I could take on and off my fingertips to protect them from snagging on everything (which drove me crazy!) it also stopped me from picking at them while they healed. I also only used Orly Breathable nail polish for a year or two and it's still my staple polish, it massively helped improve my nail health once the skin had healed and I felt safe to use a very gentle nail polish. I hope you all find some relief, always get medical advice too! ❤

    Yes, I have had a very bad allergic reaction to gel. I did Gel for two years, then 1 day after doing a full set with a new type of Hard Gel made in China, my fingers all turned blue, like they were bleeding from with in. Went to the ER because I thought it was my heart. While I was waiting at ER, read about nail allergies. I went home and took it all off with. I had it on only 14 hrs. My finger tips peeled and the nail beds delaminated. It was horrible. I am now almost to your stage in this video, but my nails are too weak to hold any kind of nail polish. I am helping them grow out strong by treating them with Kerasal Nail repair and CND Recue RXX with Keratin. I then put Jojoba oil on my hands and and wear bamboo gloves overnight. The new growth half way out now will be nice and strong. I just need to keep trimming off the damaged part for a month or two more. All the products I mentioned are available on Amazon.

    Same thing happened to me.
    I bought a ton of new products & summer colors & then boom! Allergy!
    I couldn't even use the stuff I used before, anymore.
    Then I bought all Hema- Free stuff & still, some products cause a reaction.
    I looked into the ingredients & all of the one's I can't use contain Dimethicone.
    But it's said that it's not something people react to...
    I'm lost.

    • @hellonails414
      @hellonails414  2 роки тому +3

      Hey there! I'm so sorry you're experiencing this. I did the same exact thing... bought tons of stuff and then couldn't use it. HEMA is the one ingredient that everyone seems to blame so right away we go for the HEMA-free products but the acrylates copolymers in the products still cause allergies. You mentioned that (through a process of elimination), that you feel Dimethicone is the culprit. That may very well be. It may also be the acrylates. I have an allergy to acrylates but not necessarily HEMA. Since filming this video, I've realized that I can use certain products that contain acrylates but not others. For instance, I can't use Sally Hansen Miracle Gel but I can use L.A. Colors Gel (neither require a lamp... I call them fake gel lol). Both contain acrylates but the L.A. Colors ingredient list lists it further down as opposed the the Sally which is pretty high on the list. The higher on the list, the higher the amount of ingredient. Most regular nail polishes contain acrylates but they are very far down on the list and I have no allergies to them at all. I want to clarify what I mentioned earlier. All adhesive products contain acrylates but not all contain HEMA. I cannot confirm I have a HEMA allergy because I can't find any products that have HEMA but don't have acrylates. The only way for me to know would be to go to an allergist and I don't feel the need as I have been using regular lacquer without problems. I hope this may help you on your journey back to healthy nails. I've had a couple of missteps along the way, finding things I am allergic to but as soon as I feel my skin harden even slightly, I remove it the product and throw it away. Only buy one bottle of a brand/style and try it for 7 days. See what happens. Don't keep buying huge amounts of products. My recommendation is to try some indie brands. They are home mixed and poured, cruelty free, sometimes vegan and shouldn't cause an allergy. Take care and let me know how you're doing! XOXO

    HI. This just popped up on my feed. Thank you for this video.
    My story is a bit different.
    Long time nail biter, I finally decided to get nails done first time at a salon, to stop the habit.
    Long story short they did acrylics too long and when I bumped my thumb , it darn near pulled most the nail right up. Not completely off because the acrylic glue was holding some of it on.
    After the pain lessened after 2 weeks or so, I carefully removed the acrylic nail to investigate the destruction.
    It was soooo ugly and ruined. One side pulled off right down to the cuticle. I decided NEVER to go to a salon again and to do my nails myself at home.
    So after many youtube tutorials and buying nail products I learn how to do poly gel (soooo much kinder to nails than acrylics) and covered up my ugly nail.
    A month or so later after I decided to investigate the thumb again, tpok the polygel off and found the nail hadnt grown much at all, and after someone suggested I should leave it bare for a while, even though I couldnt stand the sight of it I did and peservered looking at it for a while but within 2 days it got infected and it was the most painful and most gruesome thing Ive seen, much worse than anything Ive saw on the internet and had to go to the drs for treatment and those sticky stitches to hold the skin together. I had to have it bandaged for over a week.
    2 months later the pain has stopped but not much nail growth. The infection never developed in other fingers but there were some spots.
    This has been 6 months now since I went to that salon. Never, never never again.
    As soon as my nail is long enough (its still only 5mm long) I am putting a poly gel on and never leaving all that bare skin again!
    Thanks for reading😊

      You’re welcome. Be careful with anything that says nails strengthener in the title. They can have a tendency to dry out your nails making them brittle so it’s counterproductive with the oils. Of course, nothing will make your nails grow out faster, sadly. Your nail may never look like it did before. I used to have nice, strong nails but they are still brittle and break easily even though I’m completely healed. They look hateful if I leave them bare so I always have at least a base coat on them. I have what is likely a dumb question…did you try any of the Essie gel couture polishes to see if you had the same kind of reaction? I didn’t know if the need for curing was part of the problem with my reaction.

    • @hellonails414
      @hellonails414  2 роки тому

      No such thing as a dumb question. ❤️ To clarify, Essie Gel Couture is not gel polish as it’s in clear bottles. True ‘gel’ cannot be subjected to light so that’s why you see all gels in opaque bottles. That’s just something they named it and it causes confusion. That being said, I can use that polish with no problem. One thing to keep in mind is that you may be allergic to acrylates. Most regular polishes contain acrylates. They work as an adhesive to help the polish stick to the nail but you will find polishes have different amounts and concentrations of them. I find that if acrylates is the 5th ingredient or lower, I’m fine. Sally Hansen gel like polish in the big clear bottles causes a reaction for me as it has (had… I’ve haven’t used it in forever, it may be different now) acrylates copolymers closer to the beginning of the ingredient list. Stay away from any polish or brand that doesn’t list their ingredients or refuses to disclose their ingredients. Look at the lists of what you’re allergic to and compare them to things you’d like to try. Remember, items that appear first in an ingredient list are the highest concentrations so if acrylates copolymers is first, it’s an extremely high concentration. I hope that helps. ~Q👑

They all just have too high of a concentration of acrylates. I honestly don't know if I'm allergic to hema. My standard answer is that I'll probably never know. All products that contain hema also contain acrylates copolymers but not all products that contain acrylates, contain hema so it makes it hard to determine. I can use regular nail polish with no issues even if they contain small concentrations of acrylates... so go figure that one out! Haha Anyway, for up to date nail designs, follow my instagram nailartqueenie! Thanks for taking the time to comment and I hope you heal up quickly. XOXO

      All adhesives (including eyelash glue, nail glue, etc.) have acrylates copolymers in them. Obviously they will have different concentrations depending on the product. If you have a reaction to one glue and not another, then that glue probably had higher concentration. I wouldn't want to test them though... Lol. That's why I can't use dip liquids... the first ingredient is almost always acrylates copolymer. In regular nail polish its usually the 7th or 8th ingredient, hence why I don't experience a reaction. I also refuse to use brands that don't or won't list their ingredients. XOXO

      First please don’t be scared. I know it’s not pleasant but don’t be scared. For me, it took about one year for my nails to heal but I still have some issues almost three years later. My nails are brittle and break easy. They also don’t look nice except with polish but they are back on the beds. I used CND Solar Oil (Amazon) several times a day and didn’t use anything else. If I had to do it over again, I would have never done a manicure in this video. I should have talked more about NOT putting anything on your nails. I also kept my nails very short to help keep them from snagging on things. I only use regular nail polish now with regular quick dry top coats. No gels or acrylics on my natural nails. I hope you feel better soon. I’m so sorry this is happening to you. ❤️

      I’m happy to say that they are all healed up and as long as I stick with regular polish, it doesn’t reoccur. So far so good!! I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. Don’t put anything on your nails at all except cuticle oil and even some of those may irritate the allergy when it’s in full swing. Try Sally Hansen Cuticle Rx. It’s available at drug stores and is a game changer. If you find that it irritates your nails right now, hold off on using it until they’re more healed and try again. Honestly, this product is amazing. In the interim be sure to use something to moisturize your nails and skin several times a day. I hope you heal up quickly! Awwww I’m so sorry this is happening to you. Yes. If you developed an allergy to gel products you will not be able to use them again. You need to determine the cause of the allergy. Are you using HEMA products? Are you allergic to products even if those products don’t contain HEMA? If so you probably have an allergy to acrylates copolymers like I do. Don’t worry, there are a ton of great regular polishes out there that you can use. First off though, don’t use anything on your nails until they heal. The only thing recommended using is vitamin e oil and jojoba oil. You can buy the little empty roller ball containers (like lip gloss containers) on Amazon. Fill them with jojoba oil then add about 7-8 drops of vitamin e oil and apply several times daily. Make sure to dry your hands thoroughly after washing them also and then reapply the oil. Best of luck to you. 👑

      Hey!! Ugh the journey has been long and quite honestly it’s been trial and error all the way. In the beginning, I couldn’t use anything on my nails at all. Everything irritated my skin. Remember the nails are already dead so it’s the skin around it that’s so bothersome and painful. I bought jojoba oil that was supposed to soothe the skin and hydrate the nails but it burned. I tried a couple of nail nutrition polishes but they also burned and I think I may have been allergic to one of those too. Soooo, as I started healing, I just kept trying the jojoba oil and finally I was able to use it and that has helped so much. I also use a product called Cuticle RX from Sally Hansen and that stuff works great and doesn’t bother me but I only it once a week. The tube is small and I like to use it right after I push my cuticles back. I’ve been wondering if I should do an update video and talk about this topic. Hmmmm. Anyway, I just use regular polish and Maniology stamping polish. I won’t use any products that aren’t at least 5 free and that don’t readily give up the ingredients that are in their polishes. I hope that helps!! Are you dealing with an allergy??

      @@hellonails414 Thanks so much for your reply Queenie! I had a huge allergy to gel polish last summer and had my nails look really bad as well. Had lifting on some of them like you do and it was the scare of my life. I tried a few weeks ago to use gel polish, but only on 1 finger and not even 24h later I had to take it off cause I was already having the symptoms. Tiny bubles near the nail and my finger was starting to hurt as well. I've been using a treatment nail polish prescribed by my dermatologist and the bubles are gone but that finger is still a little sensitive by the tip and that nail is a little darker right above the smile line. The other fingers are apparently fine. Thanks for asking! But I was really interested in knowing what you did in regards to your allergy cause I really miss having my nails done and love nail stamping as well ;) but of course, I'm never using gels again. I actually put them all in the trash. Do you think it's safe to use regular nail polish? I have some 3 and 5 free that I could use, and also have a brand in my country that makes hipoallergenic ones and I already purchased a few colors and a base and top coat to go with it. But I'm so scared that something bad happens, I'm sure you know how I feel. Thanks again and sorry for the wall of text! ;)

    I went to an upscale salon…asked all the right questions…got a nail allergy…my nails were fine…no lifting from nail bed but it was an itchy situation and made my cuticle are so tender…I think it is becoming epidemic from people know who are developing allergies. I really think this is goi g to be a big issue for people who do theor own nails or have them done. I mean how do you know what they tell you is truth….and for those that don’t ask questions about products it’s even scarier, but again, I was guaranteed there was no Hema…blah blah…I, who have never had an allergy in my life…got an allergy. I am beginning to think it isn’t as much allergy as it is just plain toxic. Honestly I have 3 friends who have it. It’s more than an allergy problem. Great video btw…thanks. ☺️

      You probably have an allergy to acrylates copolymers. It’s usually one of the first ingredients in gel products and dip liquids and can cause horrible allergic reactions so if the person at the salon said that the products were HEMA free, they may have been telling the truth but that has nothing to do with an acrylates allergy which would be unavoidable with gel. That said, I’m very sorry that your experiencing this. It’s so frustrating. I wore gel products for many years and had no problems so I can relate with your experiences. Finally :,( I’ve been doing my nails for the past few months now to have a side hobby and save money. I too bought a Gel lamp that came with gel polish. The only thing I did was I would glue on tips and then apply the gel polish.. but of course nail glue for press on nails don’t last..so I switched to the Beetles Gel Glue and I fell in love with it finally my nails were lasting! Well two days ago I noticed a lot of itchiness around my nails and under my nails there was a lot of peeling.. I originally thought ok it’s probably just gel glue that got cured under my nail and is coming off.. boy was I wrong!! All of my nails started itching really bad underneath so I removed the gel tips by soaking them off and then realized that I had a really bad allergic reaction to the gel glue. I developed little pus bubbles on basically all of my fingertips that are itchy and hurt really bad if I accidentally hit something. So now I’ve resorted to soaking my fingers in hydrogen peroxide and then applying a antibiotic cream with a bandage on each finger. I honestly have never had a problem before with the gel glue but I’ve decided that it’s time to just take a break from the gel tips and whatnot. I’m going to try to take super good care and grow my natural nails out. Thank you for this video!!

      Gel polish and gel glue have acrylates copolymers. All adhesives have them, just in different amounts. I can use regular polishes that have them as long as they are at least the 7th-8th item on the ingredient list. Lol The higher they are on the list, the more there is in the product. My suggestion is to use regular polishes with low amounts of acrylates, stay away from Toluene (toxic ingredient) and try to use at least 5 free formulas. I love Orly, Essie and China Glaze! My fave drug store/dollar store polish is L.A. Colors Gel Shine. It's not actually gel, that's just the name. Best of luck to you and I hope you heal up quickly! There is not technically a cure for an allergy. Once you develop an allergy, you are stuck with it for life. What you can do is wait for the allergy to heal and then find products that don't trigger it. As always, I recommend seeing a doctor if you don't see healing within a few months. XOXO

Also this video is over a year old and my nails have grown back in strong after taking care of them. It’s contact dermatitis from uncured gel. The chemistry of these gels are very complex. It happens when the gel is not cured enough from cheap ass nail lamps. Companies don’t actually test and see if their trash nail lamps cure the product, which in turn you have uncured product on your fingers, then obviously it will cause irritation. If most people get an “allergy” from an irritant, is it really an allergy, or is it just a chemical human skin cannot tolerate? This is why you never buy cheap products… ever.
