Totally agree, my first reaction was exactly this. Rehashed Gojira riffs in a random order. But it has grown on me a lot. Especially the drums which glue the parts together for me. Do still think this is the song for the ‘old’ fans. Which makes me think the album will take some turns.
Very much appreciate to follow the journey of great reflection. Defy Theo . Really much depth in the reaction as always. The Discord is amazing. Gojira is great band in many ways and has a special place for metal. I am looking forward to the new album.
Hey thanks mate, it's an AKG C414 XLS. I've got it running through an RME interface which has some built in compression and eq effects. Can give more details if ya want.
Admittedly I've never been a huge Gojira fan but it feels like they've developed this SIGNATURE GOJIRA SOUND™ and that can be great for really setting yourself apart in the scene but they're so entrenched in it that its hard to get out of. I'm conflicted when this kind of thing comes up because I feel like a hypocrite for complaining about both sides of this spectrum. Although I don't like the new Architects record "For Those That Wish to Exist" as much as their earlier work because I feel its a bit too much of a departure I do admire their desire to grow and evolve. So on one hand, this new Gojira song reminds me of the things I've enjoyed about their music in the past but also feels like listening to a band that is in a rut. End of the day I'm just some asshole on the internet with opinions but that's my two cents. This feels like "more of the same but still good". I just wish they were pushing the boundaries more.
I can't agree with you more. The new Architects was frankly a bit boring. I think it was a little misjudged overall. I didn't listen to the whole thing though, but my impression was that it wasn't really a departure, more a reconfiguration of musical elements they already had in their tool kit. I know Gojira can do better. Can't they??
I had the same reaction. I did kinda smile with that bass line, i liked that. But i wasn’t like “yeah, this is what i wanted”. It’s a better track than Another World, but not convinced either. This is a mashup of The way of All Flesh and magma. I just wanted heavier, more instrumental songs, and it looks like we wont be getting that. Let’s see... fingers crossed
There is a lot of references to the colors black and white 1. Camera focuses on the checkered floor many times. 2. Mario wearing a black and white hoodie 3. Little boy wearing jock black and white hoodie 4. Girls zebra pants 5. Two dudes running with white shirt/black tie 6. Mario’s drum kit 7.Christians guitar 8. Jean-michels bass video ends with black and white pyramid The entire video feels like a spell casting ritual...the song was made to hype people up with the breakdown for maximum pre orders possible, the song itself sounds formulated top to bottom to appease fans

@@thewaxbiscuit could you? What’s the best place to get in touch man? UA-cam comments are awful for conversation.

I’ve not seen a worse pause in the entirety of UA-cam reaction videos, so well done on that (Not well done, ridiculous actually).
Which out of interest?
@@thewaxbiscuit right at the commencement of the outro riff
Surely that's the best place to pause, rather than in the middle of it. 🙄

I love gojira an agree. It's sort of bland. Same direction as Magma. Lost that edge and experimental quality. It's still good. Just sort of a letdown.
