  • With Mrs Mechanic itching to get on her Monkey & hit the triails it's time to get the bike lowered, I know...I know, who would need to lower a Monkey bike?? well, Mrs Mechanic for one, she's 'petite' (that's the phrase I have to use!)
So, in this video we run through how to replace the rear shocks in order to lower the seat height as low as possible without causing other problems. The second part of the video covers shortening the side stand....a lot!
This work will aplly to pretty much any twin shock motorcycle, the basics are the same.
    Enjoy

Her chuckle as she bounced and simulated the rough road was the highlight of the video. Good work!

The chain tension is preventing travel after the install. It needs to be adjusted.

Why not just unbolt the exhaust end plate instead of exhaust, i reckon there is enough space to get top shock bolt out.

Can you slide the forks up to lower the front and decrease the extra rake you gained when you lowered the rear ?

@@mototripperuk It as very little to do with the height of the person, it is their inside leg length which counts, some people have long legs and short bodies.

andy looking at this i think you went the long way around it bud it looked like the exhaust muffler wud come off which may of gave you room to take leg off maybe wrong, the side stand i wud of measured the length from heel to the hole and marked it and then fount your desired angle and got mrs m to measure the distance and shud of gave you the amount to take out first time

Andy, I had a thought as I was contemplating the height struggle as well as the terrain Mrs Mechanic will be riding on, traction on anything muddy at all would no doubt be rather poor with those factory tires so that is one aspect but here is the other angle. It turns out that Maxxis as one company makes a specific knobby tire that fits the 12 inch wheel and the same factory tire width but with one difference, its a 70 aspect ratio vs the 80. How much difference that would make in tire height is a good question and what the actual physical difference really is between the factory tires and this tire I came across. Its a thought anyway by killing two birds with one stone, get better off road traction and lower the front and rear of the motorcycle slightly in the process. Here is the specs from the company so you can take a peek at it and for all I know there may be other manufactures as well and better knobby choices. www.maxxis.com/us/tire/m6024/

@@AndyMechanic I imagine with all the dealer access you have, something should be available or at least find out all the tire options that are made for the 12" rim. And of course the ultimate decision will be the bosses ( also known as Mrs Mechanic ! )
