Was my daughter's '08 Edge with 75k miles. Plug gapping was almost .070". The new Iridium plugs helping to run more smoothly, and with seemingly more power. Also found some crushed seals in three of the six coils. All is now well again!
That's the most detailed instructional video I've ever watched! I especially appreciate you showing how each clip and hose works (I've broken a few in the past). Fine video Mr, Robinson, You, Mr Hewlett Packard and myself, spent the day under the hood of my 268,000 mile 2007 Edge.. we installed 6 plugs, 6 coils and 6 injectors. $600. dollars of new parts. I'll guess I probably saved $800. on labor. The tired old Ford has new life. I could not have repaired it without this video ! Thank You
Used this video this past weekend to give my 2007 ford edge a tune up. Worked like a charm... Great! I got a quote which was unreal for the ignition coil #2 replacement and spark plugs which made me say Hell to the No. I need to do this myself. And this video worked like gold. Thank you!

I took a few minutes to remove the battery for better access to that vacuum hose connection behind it. Also was good to remove battery hold down bolt to clean it (it gets pretty corroded in the bottom of battery tray) and apply Never-Seize to the threads; also to clean the battery terminals. Thank you for an excellent demonstration.
Great video, perfect instruction spot on. Your video saved us a lot of money in repairs. Only deviation from the video is I removed the battery, took an extra couple minutes but made the hose disconnect super easy. I took that time to clean the battery terminals while it was out. Car runs like a champ now!
That was exactly what I was gonna do too, it opens up all that space behind it.
So - it went perfect! Did the entire thing by myself. The only thing I even had the slightest hard time with was that damned hose clamp behind the intake cover. Then I realized I didn't need to remove it from the intake cover side where the clamp was, it popped right off on the engine side. My truck is running great. I really surprised myself. Had your video to pause and play throughout the entire dismantle stage, but put it all back together by memory. Thank You so much again! You just saved me hundreds of dollars. Sorry I didn't record it. Now I wish I would have. Anyone who wants to do this, can with the help of your video!

JUST HAD TO SCROLL ALL THE WAY BACK UP TO WARN YOU THIS COMMENT IS EXTREMELY LONG, AND I DON'T BLAME YOU IF YOU DON'T BOTHER TO READ! Anyways, that's funny about the bragging because I totally was! Those who witnessed it themselves were extremely surprised to find me under the hood of my new truck considering how obsessive I am over the condition and wellbeing of it. Some friends actually pulled up while I was taking it apart. When they walked up and realized it was me under the hood with the engine torn apart, they were both shocked. At first my friend says, "When we pulled up I was a little shocked to see you allowing Nick (my boyfriend) to touch the engine in your new truck. Now we're even more shocked that it's you"! Her hubby says, "now that's something you don't see everyday. A chick under the hood of a vehicle". Then he made some disgusting comment about his genitals. They both thought for sure there was no way I was doing all that by myself. I said, "I'm not. He's helping me". Showed them my phone with your video. Her husband kept trying to help, and I asked him several times to leave me be. I wanted to do it ALL by myself. He started trying to help anyways, and broke one of the red clips that are attached to the wire harness that plug into the spark plug boot thingy's. Now it won't plug back in properly so I had to use a zip tie to hold it tight in place. I was like, "SEE! This is why I wanted to be left alone to do it myself! You men are too rough, and they have to be pulled out a specific way"! Apparently the last person to change the plugs did the same thing to one of the back plug wire harness clip because it was zip tied in place (that's how I got the idea to zip tie the one in front that dude broke). Anyways, if I want to replace those - how would I go about doing that? Can you splice in new brackets, or do I have to replace the entire wiring system? It doesn't seem to affect the performance of the vehicle at all. It seems to be running better than ever, but I wouldn't know because I just bought my Edge about a month ago, and that back one was already broken and jerry-rigged by whoever owned, or changed the plugs last time. Also, I bought and used platinum plugs. I see there were iridium plugs in there. They were still in pretty good shape so I'm thinking they were changed fairly recently, and it was probably unnecessary for me to change them, but I was averaging 22 mpg's a couple weeks ago, and have only been averaging 20 mpg's lately. I have to drive a couple hundred miles this weekend so I will see if it changes at all. Do you think I should have gone with iridium plugs? Also, I gapped them to 0.054. They were factory gapped at .050. I've only gone a few miles since the plug change. I'm thinking about replacing the platinum with iridium because that's what you used, and that is what was in there. One more question - sorry - can you think of any other reason for the slight loss in fuel economy? I checked for vacuum leaks, and don't hear or see anything. The truck is creeping up in miles. I'm at about 180,000 and the thing runs, drives, feels, and even smells like a brand new vehicle! Everything looks excellent as far as I can tell. Also, the next fix is DEFINITELY getting recorded. Unless you think the platinum plugs are good, it won't be to change the spark plugs though. Are they? What do you recommend I use? If you think iridium are better, I guess I'll just have to go do it all over again. Darn. I didn't use iridium because my boyfriend bought expensive, fancy, iridium plugs to put in my Saab, and the damn things ran way too hot which caused major issues and killed the engine. He switched them back to the normal, cheap, platinum NGK plugs, and the car was fine. I don't want anything like that happening to my Edge so I shouldn't have listened to him about which to use. And I definitely shouldn't have believed the guy that works at O Riley's here in town. He sells us the wrong parts EVERY time we go there. Not sure why we still do. Anyways, sorry for the mile long comment and all the questions. I really am concerned about the plugs not being the right ones. Like I said, I haven't driven it far enough yet to tell. The vehicle seems to have more pick up, and is running great. But, so did my Saab with those iridium plugs for about 50 miles. Then the frick'n thing died and wouldn't start, or stay running. I want only the best choice for my vehicle. Whatever you think that is. I don't trust anyone else. Thanks again for all your help. And sorry again for such long comments. Any questions you can answer for me would be great. If you have any other maintenance or repair ideas, or video's for a 2007 Ford Edge SLE 3.5 liter, v6 let me know. :) yup im smiling lol thank you for sharing your adventure i think its awesome to say the least. as for the red locking tabs you should be fine as long as it stays retained you wont experience any issues related to it. zip ties work well and i resort to that same fix on many occasions. i wouldn't sweat it. now if you get a misfire and find one unplugged well then definitely revisit. i would say unlikely if you retained it well. the locking tab is extra security makes certain its completely seated and latched. i believe there should still be some retaining taking place with the remaining plug and the zip tie will help aid as well. cut and splice would create much greater concerns. the plug ends can be replaced without splicing. however i only do this if one is destroyed or its insulation properties got compromised somehow.
as for the spark plugs you should be ok, a lot of people like sticking with OEM which is Iridium or equivalent and platinum makes that list. im for from an expert on plugs, the claims are longer intervals between replacement. example say 60,000 vs 100,000 miles is a common one i hear. however within its intervals i don't hear much "supported" claims of better efficiency or performance. i may be wrong. makes sense though. you Got your three big plug types, Copper core, Platinum and Iridium and basically that order defines its intervals as well (Shorter to longer) do to the type of materiel used one withstands heat greater than the other allowing the gap to maintain/remain for a greater period of time.
with that being said iridium plugs can be made to run hotter, however if you stick with the Specified Heat range you shouldn't experience a problem at least not in my experience. again im not an expert can only say from previous repairs. some play with heat ranges for in town vs highway efficiency. i don't have much knowledge to offer on that subject.
so sticking with the Platinum i don't see an issue, honestly i would be surprised if you swapped out and had any noticeable changes other than replacement intervals.

Ok - thanks for the additional info. I drove to my appointment yesterday about 250 mile round trip. I'm getting an extra mpg, and had no issues. I'm amazed by myself thanks to you. No more men touching my vehicles. This mama can do it herself! lol Actually even better than some men I know. Told my doctor what I did when I made it down there with no issues, and he was pretty amazed. I was like, UA-cam Dude - anyone can do anything themselves now ;)
Great video. Took me about 2.5 hours. On a 2008 edge. On my edge there was no high bolt in the back or a plug. Just the PCV for anyone else going at a 2008.

Thanks for the video! Saved me a ton of money. Just like the video, when I was done it started up with some issues. Nervously I waited like you said and sure enough the issues went away. Had some weird error codes crop up immediately after and found when I disconnected the battery cable for a hour, and reconnected later, everything worked like a charm! I love UA-cam!

It was a bit challenging, but won't be near as difficult next time now that I know what I'm doing. 132k on 2010 Edge I just bought it 3 mos ago and from what I could tell the plugs had never been changed. All 6 boots were stuck to the plug and getting them out without a pick was honestly the hardest part. I couldn't have done it without you. Liked and Subscribed.

With your video I was able to replace the plugs in my 2010 MKX. Thank you! My car had only two differences from your car...I did not have a rear retaining bolt or a rear electrical connection for the intake manifold.

Thanks Robinsons for the video! It was very helpful in changing my 2011 Ford Edge spark plugs, coil packs and fuel injectors after a misfire on cylinder 1 at 115k . Not being an auto mechanic but working on cars for decades I really appreciate these how to videos. Everything worked great. By the way I used painters tape to mark all hoses and cables and seal openings except the intake ports. Goes on easy, comes off easy.

I just used this video to change the sparkplugs on my 2010 Edge. You made it very EASY with this video. Took my time an completed in 1.5 hours with zero issues (including a few minutes to clean things up under the hood). The Edge is running great.
Kurt S Did you clean the throttle body during this? What kind of plugs did you use? How many miles on your 2010 Edge? I also have a 2010 with 83,000 and I'm worried if I'm late in changing.
Hey pindwal, My Edge has 154K miles. I used MotorCraft OEM sp-411 Spark plugs. Didn't need to clean the throttle body, it was fine. Make sure to inspect the green manifold gaskets when you pull it off.
You are late in changing according to the manual, I would do it if you can.
My gas mileage was suffering before, not anymore. Idles MUCH better. I should have done it at 60K.

Great narrative! I'm getting ready to do my plugs on my 2007 MKX w/ 90K miles. Will be ordering gasket and plugs and tackling it myself. I will be detailing all of the components, though, before reinstalling them. I am very anal about my engine compartments. Thanks for the informative video.
Excellent video. Like others have mentioned, I removed the battery to access the hose to the brake booster? a little easier. After watching the video straight through twice, I took the laptop to the garage and went step by step. No problems. I have a lot more time now w/ Corona shutting everything down. Thank you.

This video was great! I'm very grateful for the guidance.
The only suggestion I have is 7:00 when he said, "There's one hose in the back...otherwise, looks like we got it.", I paused the video and proceeded to pull assuming the hose would just pop off. Because of this, I broke off the harness wire that he realized he missed around 7:25. I've learned my lesson to pull that hose off individually, to not force things, and to watch all the way through a step before moving forward with it myself; however, a little note around 7:00 telling the user there's one more thing (or something to that affect) would've saved me hours of work when I had to disassemble the plug, attach new wires, solder it back in, and get engine compartment tape to tape it all back up.

Im not a Mechanic, in fact I am a Geek and computer whiz but thanks to this video I was able to change my spark Plugs in about 30 minutes and saved over $400. Ford was quoting a 5 hour job and wanted over $500 for this service. You dont need to take off that bolt thing behind the battery as the intake was able to stay to the side while connected and still gave me enough room. Unfortuneately changing the plugs didnt solve my Issue. My Edge still shakes and shutters real bad at around 40-45 MPH right before it shifts into the final drive. It's like it doesnt know what gear to be in, Does it with overdrive on or off. I changed spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body, and cleaned the MAF Sensor, and Did a full tank of Chevron Techron and still get the issue. Only thing I can think of is getting my tranny reprogrammed because I do see a recall in the bulletin. My Edge is a 2007 SEL.
While you are changing the plugs go ahead and change the bank one up stream oxegen sensor. It while save you money in the long run.

Many thanks! fantastic video; it helped me a lot' I was replacing spark plugs in Mazda cx-9 ('08) 3,7L yesterday. All took ca. 3h as it was my first bigger DIY replacement with this car. Almost identical engine and parts as on your video. Overall cost of spark plugs, gaskets, tools was 4 times lower than complete service in Mazda dealers.

Thank you for this video! My 2009 was almost exactly the same, mine didn't have the rear bolt, or the back connector to the plenum, I found that pulling the battery out made it way easier to get to that vacuum hose. your video helped alot, and again i thank you. My ride is much happier now!

Great Video! Same engine is in the 2007-2010 Lincoln MKX 3.5L, only difference on my 2008 was that there is only one retaining bolt on the throttle body, and no electrical plug on the back of the plenum.
Spot On! I have a lot of respect for you. Some helpful advice. It doesn't take but a minute to blow off with air. Also this is a labor intensive job, so why not change ignition coils? at least change the 3 Rear coils and PCV. Only want to touch this once. Great Video and Instruction! Thanks Robinson

Thanks, thumbs up-careful with the plug in back-I have a 2007 Edge and changed the plugs for the first time after 12 years. I yanked the back plug apart thinking I had more free play before I had to disconnect. Also I did not remove the intake manifold completely -you can leave it connected to the hose on the back. I did not change the o-ring gaskets. Total cost was $36 for Champion 9901 gapped to .030-.035". The original plugs were Motorcraft AFYS 22FM Platinum with a .060 gap. It now runs smoothly.
Had the same problem on my 2008 Taurus X. A few things are a little different but this made it an easy job to do. Thanks

Doesn't look like the engine changed much, coolant, transmission fluid changes are wise to do early IMO, plugs although important, can possibly wait a few extra than recommended 100K

Fantastic Work! Thank you for the guide! I was able to complete this... helpful tip - buy a good spark plug socket(magnetic one) - I bought the cheap one with the rubber gasket and it got stuck on a socket and had to make another trip to the store. Also, those darn electronic plugs are hell to take off the coils... I think I broke the red locking bar on all of them - they go back on fine -but I hope they stay. Overall - I say it is doable. Hard, but doable... I am a little paranoid -something got lost in the intake manifold, but I drove it for about 20 miles now and still running. Putting the upper plenum was hard to put back on - be careful. Also, take note of all the tools he is talking about and make sure you have everyone! Thanks again!
Wanted to add... it took me 4 hours - my knees about had it, because they were not used to being in that position and I think I bruised my stomach - from pressing on the car so hard... Much respect to Mechanics!
ALWAYS blow the top of the motor off with compressed air before removing intake or plugs!

Just wanted to say thank you for this, my 2010 Edge had gotten up over 100, 000 miles and needed a spark plug change (I did the coil packs at same time, as I had an issue with the #5). This video was detailed and gave me everything I needed to walk through process. I had it open on ipad so I could step through 3-4 steps, then go to the next as I worked to make sure I had everything. I would like to mention, from what I researched there is an issue with 2007-2010 Edge that can cause the PCM to be damaged (circuitboardmedics.com/2007-2010-ford-edge-pcm-ecm-repair/) I sent mine in for diagnostics (after I had an error on #5 coil) they charged a bench test on it and all was fine, but it could have been very bad as the PCM will also damage the NEW coils you put in if it is damaged. Only other thing to add is on the 2010 Edge the spark plugs are numbered 1, 2, 3 for the back and 4, 5, 6 for the front (seems to be a lot of different answers on web, but found this on a ford mechanic chat site and verified when I changed #5 and error code resolved). Thank you again for all your knowledge and this video showing it
I think it must be easier to change the spark plugs on most mid-engine super cars! Why manufacturers try to squeeze these engines into such a small compartment i do not know. Very helpful video for anyone who owns one of these, thanks!
Your most likely right, what should be a simple task seems to get harder and harder, used to just worry about busting my knuckles, now I just hope to be standing up straight when it's done, hard on the back, thank you for the compliment

Great video. Changing the spark plugs is an exercise. The stretchy belt is easy I use zip ties and works out pretty good. Not much room. Transmission torque mount is pretty easy to access and change. I had my 2008 Ford Edge run to 285,000 miles before I traded it in for a 2011. The engine was original and only one O2 sensor was changed. It was a great car. Just recently the 2011 Edge alternator failed, which caused the new battery to fail due to deep discharges but it never threw a battery light. The voltage regulator was shunting electricity to the point that it could barely charge the battery so I had to replace the alternator. Keep up the good work.

I replaced all 6 coil and plugs got that done the i cleaned the intake manifold and the thottle body before putting that back on

One MAJOR mistake on this video - at 13:12 you filled the coil boot with grease! You're only supposed to use a thin layer of dielectric grease on the inside walls, not a huge blob. If any grease gets on the metal parts of the spark plug or coil electrical connection points, its going to create a lot of resistance... Other than that good video.
