I have the large pro harvest right. It is kind of big for the two of us. I don’t sell candy. I am going to look into laws for selling meats but I think I could have done fine with a medium. We are processing a lot of meats. One of my favorites is Costco chicken. The cost at $5 a chicken already cooked and seasoned is wonderful. I then use the bones and make broth. I also buy sale meats. After Easter hams go in clearance for $1 a lb! Turkey around the holidays can hit $.78 a lb. I brine the turkey and it makes amazing freeze dried turkey. I’d love for you to do meals ready to eat. I have only started those now and have done some spaghetti and meatballs. I am also doing baby food. We got two new grand babies last month and I’ve done pumpkins (sales after Halloween) and sweet potatoes. I make little two tablespoon powder packets of powder and they are great for diaper bags. No chemicals.
@StacieKubick This is such great information. Thank you for sharing! I do the same with meats, our local grocers will discount the meat to move new inventory in, and I buy a lot of it for pennies on the dollar. Happy Thanksgiving ☺️

@Forest_Actual You no me, I love my eggs. I was pushing through about 8-11 dozen a week, but the hens have slowed down since the cooler weather moved in. I am looking forward to processing things out of the garden this year. I'm working on a native tomato plant to Florida, which I hear is a heavy producer! 😁

If I had known about Freeze Dryers when I started prepping in 2011, I would have saved myself a lot of money by buying one. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.🍗🍗😋
I have been wanting a freeze dryer for so long. I’ve been saving for a solar power system first. But I garden and can and would love to have another option for preserving my food.
Hi Grey, Happy Thanksgiving, I know a gal who bought one, and she too sells candy. I don't personally want one but what I would like to see is if someone would sell some more of the nutritional freeze dried products fruits , eggs, I would like good stuff on the shelf vs candy I guess if not I will be looking at purchasing from Augustin farms or something similar to fill my pantry .
@tammyharder7488 Happy Thanksgiving! I agree I focus on my preps. The candy thing is just a side venture for extra revenue. I do it once a week to fill my orders. I do about 12 dozen eggs a week. It may slow down a bit as the hens are slowing up due to the cool weather.
You can also put them on layaway.....just saying, for everyone saying they "cant afford" one, yes they can.....no credit checks, no interest, no set monthly payment, only $250 down to order whatever you want! There's no excuse for anyone not being able to afford one. You can pay $5, $10, $20, $500, whatever, whenever! They will send it when its paid off. ALSO, get extra tray sets, lids, etc when it goes to layaway so you dont have to out of pocket costs once you've paid for it.
I’ve been making mine own MRE’s for close to two years. The biggest tip I can give you is. Don’t trust the machine to tell you things in done. You need to weigh your trays. Trust me on this. If you can pre-Freeze everything. I pre-freeze everything so the machine will just be drying. I run everything for over 35 to 40 hours. Tip: #2 if you can get an IR camera. You won’t regret it.
@iiinsaiii Great tips! Thank you. I do have 2 large food scales and a moisture meter that was recommended to me as well. I have thermal cameras. I'll have to play around with it a bit. Thanks again. 😁👍
@ that moisture meter don’t work. Remember it was made for wood and not food. I had one when I started too and found out just like every one that got it. It doesn’t work. But you will see. The best thing is weighing and using the IR camera. If you’re going to do what I do and make your own MRE’s…. You better like cooking 😂 that’s a lot of cooking my friend 😂 I know. Chili, chicken Alfredo, homemade hamburger helper and a lot more 🤷♂️. I would be cooking one meal for a month. While the load was in the dryer, there will be another load in the freezer. So every 3 days I will be making a meal to freeze dry. Yes, it’s a lot of work. But it’s all worth it. And you will run out of room to store them. Totes everywhere. 😂 Good luck 👍
I want a freeze dryer! Been looking at them for awhile . I want to see you do some freeze dried left overs. My daughter wants one for baby’s milk because she learned that it preserves the milk nutrients and last longer than freezing plus easier to travel with . Happy Thanksgiving 🧡🤎
Happy Thanksgiving, Ann! 😊 and yes, I have a friend of the family that had asked me about breast milk as well. She had many issues with her daughter during the shortage. Now she's about to give birth to her son in February.
We love our freeze dryer. Totally worth it. No more thrown away left overs. You never look at food the same way in the grocery store. lol You'll look at something and think ohhhhhh I can freeze dry that. Candy is so fun and makes for great gifts for those with a sweet tooth. We've had our medium harvest right for a few years now. It has saved us so much in just every day use things. My favorite thing to freeze dry is actually mushrooms. They go bad so quickly from fresh, this way I always have some handy on the shelf.
Pump? You need what kind of pump. I’m very interested in getting one. Being a coffee roaster I’m thinking about doing good quality freeze dried coffee. I would really like to see more videos about this.
@coffee-guy6421 Coffee is something on my list. Most of the Harvest Right freeze dryers come with the new Premier pump, but others can opt for an oil free version. We'll definitely touch on that in future videos. Happy Thanksgiving! 😁
@ it’s too bad we live on opposite sides of the country. I get only top quality green coffee beans from point of origin. Maybe I could send you some and you could send some freeze dried back?
I would love to own a freeze dryer...out of budget.. My cousin has one and when I was there visiting for a week, she showed me how to use it. We did corn, meats and other veggies from her garden. Lol we also did the prerequisite-candy. I fell in love. Freeze dried veggies are out of this world as snacks. You can even spice them up with salt and herbs or use ranch dressing on them and freezed dry for nutritious snacks. So many possibilities.
@@GreyManPrepping I am delighted that you picked one up. I remember you tossing the idea around quite a ways back. Have fun with it. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Lol think about all the leftovers from Thanksgiving that could be freeze dried instead of throwing in the freezer. Our Thanksgivings always had more food left over for 5 holidays. Lol
You bet more info is great. More on the kind of pump system & the working maintenance & a look at some of the food. Ok I know I should do more on my own but I trust you & your opinion. Have a great holiday. Thanks Richard
@richardsimon4682 Definitely have lots of great ideas for videos, and I appreciate you adding your thoughts to this conversation as well. Have a great Thanksgiving, Richard! 😁
Very interesting conversation on freeze dryers. I like how you talked about how to make money with it to offset the cost. I would like to know more about how you have saved money with it--like your egg example.
I own 2 brands of freeze dryers and a person needs to check reviews. I love them but I found harvest right doesn't have good support for their older machines and for the money they should have better support. They also have specialized parts so you can't just go to the store and buy parts you have to order and wait for the part to arrive. An idle machine costs money. The other one I have is the cube. I haven't had it long enough to see how they support their machine when they are older. They have had good support so far. I don't like their window that shows how the load is progressing. I love freeze drying and it has saved me more money than the machine cost. Less waste since I can freeze dry leftovers as meals. I watched the power usage and it doesn't look much more than a dehydrator. Just do your research and ask others how they like their freeze dryer. There are 4 brands that I know of and they all have had you tube videos so check those out. You won't regret buying a freeze dryer.
@lyndabuchholz1216 Thanks so much for sharing your experience! I've seen 3 brands so far, and I agree do the research to find what works best. UA-cam is a plethora of info. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Wishful thinking on my part right now but I believe while looking at their website, they offer a layaway where you can make payments,I could be mistaken but I believe that I saw that.
Definitely on my to-do list. So far, I've experimented with the Bluetti and an EcoFlow. I will definitely put something out once I get all my numbers together and look at what system and watt hours will be most efficient. 😁👍
Happy Thanksgiving, thank you for this video. I've been interested in one for a while. I am interested in learning why an oil free pump is $1500 more and is it worth it? Also, why won't the price come down as they've been on the market for some time, it is because there is almost a monopoly selling them?
Happy Thanksgiving! Very good question, I've seen that others have found how to utilize other 3rd party brands. People I spoke with that own freeze dryers say they have fewer issues with the new Premier pump as long as it's maintenanced properly.
The cost analysis seems complicated. Most #10 cans are not clear on exactly what they contain. Beef is sold by weight, dehydrated foods weigh almost nothing. Alaska Prepper did an analysis once, but it wasn’t clear to me the break even point… he was doing a lot. I have decided against freeze dried, I am in Mexico and water is my weakest link.
You have to focus on what is important to you and water is really important! Water is truly a must-have. Freeze dryers can save folks a ton of money if you're going to utilize it instead of spending thousands of dollars of food buckets and #10 cans. Also, you know exactly what's in the food. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Colleen! 😊🙏
Respectfully, waaaay too expensive!! I got a huge, used chest freezer ($150) & can fill it 6x over with the $3k+ a food dehydrator would cost. And I can run freezer for pennies a day & off solar (for free) if/when the power goes out.
Understandable. Now, this was just a personal experience. I have 3 freezers. Just recently, during the hurricanes, I had one freezer fail, which was hooked up through an Ecoflow Delta 2 Max. For some reason, the AC port decided to shut off and didn't alert or anything. We ended up losing several hundred dollars worth of meat. So, my thoughts on a prolonged power outage or worse. Solar has its pros and cons, and don't get me wrong, I love solar, but freeze-dried foods will outlast most scenarios from high to temps and in most storage locations as well as portability due to weight and refrigeration requirements. Just my take. It did take me a year putting money to the side for this investment, so again, I truly understand your point.
@GreyManPrepping Addendum re: solar generators, heard good/bad about EcoFlow Deltas. Just ordered a Black Friday Special Jackery 1000v2 (60% off) to run chest freezer, 2 fridges in grid down scenario. Jackerys are the best reviewed/most reliable solar generators on the market.
@InVinoVeritas. I have a couple myself, and to be totally honest, my personal favorite brand is the Bluetti. They are the only one so far that I've never had an issue with, and their batteries stay pretty much charged even after a year of sitting on a shelf. I have a jackery 5000 plus that I recently picked up on sale as well. I'm looking forward to seeing it how it compares to my mega 5 from Oupes. That being said, I am happy with most of my Jackery products, except my older 300. For some reason, it just died after 2 years and will not turn on.
Do you own a freeze dryer and if so what is your favorite food to freeze dry?

@@GreyManPrepping I am delighted that you picked one up. I remember you tossing the idea around quite a ways back. Have fun with it. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Lol think about all the leftovers from Thanksgiving that could be freeze dried instead of throwing in the freezer. Our Thanksgivings always had more food left over for 5 holidays. Lol
@joyceterra2265 You are reading my mind when it comes to holiday leftovers! 😁
Don't have one, yet. I'm in the "gathering pennies" and "convincing wife" stage.
@MiscMitz 🤣🤣 Wishing you the best, brother! They will eventually pay for themselves. Have a great weekend! 😁
Very interesting conversation on freeze dryers. I like how you talked about how to make money with it to offset the cost. I would like to know more about how you have saved money with it--like your egg example.
@SueD. I plan to do something like a start to finish food ideas, breaking down the process to the cost. Eggs, beef, poultry, and so on. 😁👍
I love my small Harvest Right freeze dryer!! Great for herbs too! Only do candy at Xmas time because I’ll eat too much. lol
🤣 yeah, I find myself taste testing too much, lol
Would luv a freeze dryer, in oz the start at $5000
Wow! That's a hefty tag! I guess you'd have to look at ROI "return on investment" and see if ot would work for you. Thanks so much for watching! 😁👍
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
@@katskills5560 We did thank you! Hope yours was as well. 🙏😊
Great topic Greyman…..enjoyed this video and information. Freeze dryer is on my wishlist 😊. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 to you and your family!🍁
@@fluffyotter1601 Thank you! 😊 Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving! 🙏
Wishful thinking on my part right now but I believe while looking at their website, they offer a layaway where you can make payments,I could be mistaken but I believe that I saw that.
@@Sonny-ik9rv Harvest Right does offer a layaway program. My neighbor just put a medium pro on the program after they checked out mine.
GreyMan great video.
@@Andrew-865 Much appreciated, Andrew! 😁
Do a video of running the freeze dryer off a solar generator. Please 😊
Definitely on my to-do list. So far, I've experimented with the Bluetti and an EcoFlow. I will definitely put something out once I get all my numbers together and look at what system and watt hours will be most efficient. 😁👍
Awsome bud
Much appreciated! 😁👍
Happy Thanksgiving
Thank you, and Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.
I’m interested in whether to get oil free, or the oil one.
I personally prefer the premiere oil pump. From people I spoke with say they prefer it as well and it's much more affordable.
Shoot, selling candy has paid for both our machines to be able to process our own homestead food😂 no brainer! 🎉
@BootsandBountyHomestead Absolutely! I'm shocked how big this candy thing is, lol 😆
With an echo, we get twice the audio in one video 😂.
🤣🤣🤘
Happy Thanksgiving! Not cost effective for one.
@@greatlakescanary3237 Happy Thanksgiving 😊
@GreyManPrepping
Addendum re: solar generators, heard good/bad about EcoFlow Deltas.
