I love innovation in tech industry, so it's a good thing some companies still care about innovation unlike apple with their HUGE innovations like USB C , always on display etc 😂
@aaaaaa-hh8cq Honestly, I had the same thoughts that the flipping won't be useful for me (I mainly bought the phone for the style and to try something new). But after, like, what is now three weeks, I find myself using the cover display a lot. Some days, I use the cover display more than the main display. The use I found for the cover display is by doing essential tasks like messaging, maps, food delivery, weather, and other apps that are useful for the day. Also, I noticed that the cover display holds me back from further diving deep down with phone usage, like suddenly opening TikTok, Instagram, and other time-wasting apps. People say the cover display has limited usage, which they find as a con, but for me, I found it as a pro. Lastly, the "flip" makes the phone easy to stand. So, when taking photos, I never ask for anyone to hold my phone to take a photo of me or us. I just simply flip the phone in an angle, and it stands on its own.
@DrDemolition unless you intentionally dig your nails into the screen you won't have a problem. And if you do dig your nails into a plastic screen what do you expect

I bought the Flip5 after a few weeks of hemming and hawwing. It doesn't have as good a camera as my old phone, and the battery is smaller, but this time around I was mostly interested in the novelty and a chance to try and new less bulky form factor, and boy am I glad I did. The screen and hinge durability is a concern though, and I kinda expect this phone to not last much longer than two years with regular and a little careless use, as is normal for humans. I hope next year's model isn't just a minor upgrade on the old model. These phones would be perfect with a bigger battery and more competent camera. I really don't wanna carry around a giant phone-slate in my pocket anymore after experiencing this.
Hey Jerry, if u are worried about the durability I can say that my flip3 has suprised me alot. I have had it for around 2 years now with no issues, it still runs really well and I have really put it to the test by taking it to the beach and in water numerous times without any damage occuring.
Cool, finally a flip phone long durability test! Lol my guess it that it will last hmm 2 years and 3 months. Are you going to give a yearly update or just small updates as things happen?
I was using my Note 8 from 2017 until last month. I thought about a flip phone but was concerned about how long it would last. Will be interesting to see what you get out of yours. Hopefully a lot. I would like my next phone to be a flip in another 6 years.
I still use my Note 8, it's showing signs of wear and tear (especially the battery and the screen) but still works well enough. Hopefully my next phone (when the Note 8 finally gives up) will last at least as long
I like my flip 5 it has his disadvantages and advantages like you got to be real careful with this phone scratches on the screen stick on the screen protector
@@TheGrejp I was planning on keeping it until it died. I recently got hearing aids with Bluetooth. Unfortunately they don’t work with anything that is not at least a Note 10 So I got the Ultra 23
Altough flip and foldable phones are more durable then people think but theirs no way they would last 6 years Atleast untill now unless they have some kind of technology becouse of the screen After a couple years from about 2 years or so the screen might have deep scratches on the middle of the screen and over time might crack the screen where it bends because of fisics, altough it would most likely be still usable But you might get 4 years out of the phone because I've seen several first Gen flips in really good condition, how long have they been used, idk

as a person who's had the 2, the 3, the 4 and now the 5, you are correct. I know it's not going to last. It barely lasts a year, but I just trade it in every year.
My wife has been carrying a Z-Flip 3 and me a Z-Fold 3 since shortly after they came out and I could scarf them up on the secondary market from iPhone users who couldn't process the switch to Android. We love them both. My screen factory screen protector started getting bubbles under it long ago and was removed. My wife's factory screen protector has started to release at the fold on each side and it will seen be removed as well. Kudos for the Boy Scout Law reference @9:31!

This man is the GOAT. While most other reviews switch to newer phones every couple of months our man here kept his old note 10+ for about 4 years and he doesn't even switch to the best or the most expensive phone (yeah $1000 is still quite expensive though) unlike other youtubers 👏👏
I'm a maintenance engineer and I have the fold 4. I regularly get metal filings stuck on the magnets in the corners of the inner screen. Not a massive issue but it does cause indentations on the screen. Just something to consider.
I'd like to think a lot of phone companies expedited their pull tabs for batteries partly due to your videos Jerry. Great work being a positive influence for recycling. Still love my dbrand case too! Enjoy your new phone
flip phones back then were wild. fashionable, even. their designs were so wildly different that it was fun just comparing phones' designs. not really the same now but still, it gives an oddly nostalgic feeling
3:41 This is the moment I twitched hard because I've seen so many of your teardowns that I knew you were about to kill the screen since you didn't hold your knife perfectly flat but rather at an angle that would apply pressure to the pixels and would ultimately kill them. Then you started wiggling your knife and my soul left my body 👻 Most intense 5 seconds of my day! PS: when you wiggled your knife you applied diagonal pressure and sheer forces while foldables can only withstand pressure and tensile stresses in the folding direction.
I've had my s9 plus for almost 5 years and I love it. I'm long overdue for an upgrade. I hope this z flip is a good option. My last flip phone was from Verizon, an LG VX8300. This was a personal favorite of mine
I love watching your videos I was on the fence about upgrading my 4 year old iphone to the z flip 5 but after your videos I think I will upgrade. Thank you very much for your Awesome videos.
The columns of pixels that failed during the initial dismantling seems to have intermittently started working again after reassembly. I am guessing that some, if not all electrical connections are by conductive adhesives or maybe even just mechanical pressure. I must say, the repairability seems to be more than acceptable for a modern flippy phone, if it actually comes back into a more or less functioning state after that treatment. Not even a cracked glass panel. A skilled technician could probably switch the battery without any major hiccups for a normal use phone. I think Samsung will get my stamp of approval and a thumbs up for this one.
I decided I wanted one of these after watching your videos. Although now the 6 comes out in less than a month I'm going to wait for it. Thanks for your awesome content.
@JerryRigEverything - I have a friend that went through ALL samsung flip iterations, every single one so far got a crease down the middle after a year of use that cause the touch to stop functioning properly and need to be replaced, so I kind of laughed at the "I plan to use it for 4 years" XD

Great video! On my 3rd generation Flip now (Flip 3, Flip 4 and now Flip 5).. I have had screen failures but everything else has been rock solid.. love the format factor, the now larger Flex screen, and the wow factor
Not sure if u read this, but id love to see u judge and test the fairphone 5. Its a phone that everyone could assemble and desemble according to them. Its a new european brand and it promises to be fully renewable for the enviroment.
I miss the scratch test, but the fingernail joke made up for it. Love your work! I'm still on my LG G6 waiting for you to tear down a phone I like enough to upgrade.
My issue with these folding phones is the plastic displays that are needed to allow a foldable format. While this one has a great chance of lasting 4+ years, I bet one month in the micro scratches on the display will become an issue, not only triggering OCD, but becoming an issue when viewed under direct sunlight. I really hope in the coming years manufacturers figure out some new material or coating that fixes this issue, perhaps something similar to regenerating paint coats used on cars.
the phone surviving both the durability test, and the teardown (mostly) makes me much more interested in purchasing a folding phone in the future. the long term wear and tear of the sofer inner screen is still a concern to me. Though unless we invent some ultra thing flexible super strong material for the screens i cant really see that changing.
I had my zflip3 for almost 3 years. It was a great phone! But last month the bottom mic stopped working randomly (I take very good care of my devices). The phone was still usable because of the mic on top, but I upgraded anyway to the zflip5, love it
Eagle Scout here. Love how you threw in the scout law out of nowhere. I was thinking, will he say all of them? Yes, you did. Lol I bet only 1% of people got that one. Love your videos.
I was going to switch to this too but I can't get over the plastic screen that scratches and dents easily do I opted for the s23 ultra I trade my Note 20 in and it reduced the piece to 500$ so that was the best decision I've made. the integrated s pen the super clear and bright display and amazing camera. plus the battery lasts forever and charged almost fully in 30 min. it prob won't happen any time soon but until they somehow make real glass foldable, I won't be getting any flip phone. still the z flip and cold are amazing in their own right , like you are for doing all these tests for us. Keep it up

Samsung made an impressive job...and you're the best...
It's a bloody shame it doesn't support Dex mode - they were THIS close to greatness! 😢

Sent from my Fold 4 Dex Mode
i only didn't laughed hard bcs i'm writting from my work computer at the office.
@@heitoroliveira5166 Imagine having an extra dock and screen at the office to do private browsing while at work.
Best part is that Jerry reassembled that phone( and even is working) after disassembling completely
I enjoyed the Boy Scout Law reference! 9:31
Very curious to see how the inner screen holds up to his wear and tear. That is by far my biggest concern. I’m hoping for a full 4 years!
Im interested because after being obsessed with the Note series I just became obsessed with the Flip 5 as my work device also
What do you work as?
If it's heavy duty idk if it's that durable
Cool, finally a flip phone long durability test! Lol my guess it that it will last hmm 2 years and 3 months. Are you going to give a yearly update or just small updates as things happen?
I was using my Note 8 from 2017 until last month. I thought about a flip phone but was concerned about how long it would last. Will be interesting to see what you get out of yours. Hopefully a lot. I would like my next phone to be a flip in another 6 years.
It's a long plan.
Altough flip and foldable phones are more durable then people think but theirs no way they would last 6 years
Atleast untill now unless they have some kind of technology becouse of the screen
After a couple years from about 2 years or so the screen might have deep scratches on the middle of the screen and over time might crack the screen where it bends because of fisics, altough it would most likely be still usable
But you might get 4 years out of the phone because I've seen several first Gen flips in really good condition, how long have they been used, idk

we love it when big guy jerry breaks the inner screen by applying the dbrand skin (10:17 and 10:26) (the green line lol)
fr
jerry spitting the scout law in the middle of a video is amazing
I'll look forward to you seeing the results of your extended durability test of the Flip. It's a fascinating phone, but I remain unconvinced it'd survive well enough.
as a person who's had the 2, the 3, the 4 and now the 5, you are correct. I know it's not going to last. It barely lasts a year, but I just trade it in every year.
@@thenerdshowWhat did you do with them? I've had my 4 for a year and it's still mint.
2:30 ...a delicate touch 😂😅🤣
I will also be taking this journey with you and using a zlip5 for the next few years! Its arriving today and im super excited.
🤣 The caliber of the technician ... so strong, so trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent 😂
Man, you are the boss, thanks for this teardown, was able to see my phone opened and confirm batteries are Li-Ion and not Li-Pro💪🏾
9:37 forgot hungry 😔
You know I can watch his videos just fine with my eyes closed with how well Zach talks through his videos
so aint nobody gonna talk about the green line at the end lol 10:26
This man is the GOAT.
While most other reviews switch to newer phones every couple of months our man here kept his old note 10+ for about 4 years and he doesn't even switch to the best or the most expensive phone (yeah $1000 is still quite expensive though) unlike other youtubers 👏👏
Curious to see how it goes. I've been wanting to try one. If it had slightly better cameras I maybe would have bought one already.
1:49 “I’ll leave a link”. Solid tone change, bro😂😂😂
Zach, this is murder 😂 You keep killing these phones 😢
THIS ONE SURVIVED! IT SURVIVED I TELL YOU
😂💀
Loved hearing the Boy Scout Law. It was a nice transition into it too. Had a good chuckle hearing it after so many years.
Never crossed my mind that Zack would ever swap his normal durable phone to a fragile foldable one💀
They're really not that fragile
flip phones back then were wild. fashionable, even. their designs were so wildly different that it was fun just comparing phones' designs. not really the same now but still, it gives an oddly nostalgic feeling
The boy scout words brought me back to my childhood
Well, I've had my fold 3 for 2 and a half years now and it's still going strong. I have faith, full 4 years!!!
I've had my s9 plus for almost 5 years and I love it. I'm long overdue for an upgrade. I hope this z flip is a good option. My last flip phone was from Verizon, an LG VX8300. This was a personal favorite of mine
Zack just made this Hype around him switching to a newer phone is kinda fun to see💪💪
You should seriously consider doing audiobook readings. You have such an awesome voice, it would be a pleasure to listen to audiobooks read by you!
I love watching your videos I was on the fence about upgrading my 4 year old iphone to the z flip 5 but after your videos I think I will upgrade. Thank you very much for your Awesome videos.
Of course Jerry was a boy scout growing up. it all makes sense now with his DIY lifestyle. and yes it takes one to know one.
I’ll never get tired of watching your videos!
Great job putting the Z Fold 5 back together! Enjoy your new phone! Hope it lasts a long time!
I decided I wanted one of these after watching your videos. Although now the 6 comes out in less than a month I'm going to wait for it. Thanks for your awesome content.
Funny how Zack slices his knife under screens and expect them not to get damaged.
Glad im one of the Z FLIP 5 user 🫡
Crazy how you damaged the screen removing it. But when its back together the line has gone. It fixed itself
@JerryRigEverything - I have a friend that went through ALL samsung flip iterations, every single one so far got a crease down the middle after a year of use that cause the touch to stop functioning properly and need to be replaced, so I kind of laughed at the "I plan to use it for 4 years" XD
You give me hope i might just fix my flip 4 after sand damage :)
You probably get this all the time but you've got such an awesome voice, I'd pay good money for some audio books read by yourself lol. Keep up the great work!
I love the scout law casually thrown in there haha I'm an eagle scout myself!
this is only video I need to justify buying the Zflip thank you very much!
I bet at least four more years with this Phone! And also, a teardown lockscreen and screen wold be cool
He was careful with main soft screen, they still more fragile than normal once and need to be careful with it
@@ShadowriverUB yea that's my major concern with them still. the long-term durability of such a soft screen
I had my zflip3 for almost 3 years. It was a great phone! But last month the bottom mic stopped working randomly (I take very good care of my devices). The phone was still usable because of the mic on top, but I upgraded anyway to the zflip5, love it
Impressive to see that pixel recovery. Amazing
Eagle Scout here. Love how you threw in the scout law out of nowhere. I was thinking, will he say all of them? Yes, you did. Lol I bet only 1% of people got that one. Love your videos.
This is definitely helping me to decide what phone I'm getting! Thanks Jerry! ❤️ and where is the podcast? 😂
You had me at “trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent”
Jerry be worried about ripping that phone apart and I be worried about Jerry cutting his hands with that lil knife
Keep it up
Has it been 4 years already, wow that time flew in. I remember you saying the same thing in the note 10 video.
Well done flip
They outdid themselves
I’m super surprised
Glad you've finally found your replacement! 👍
I just ordered the teardown skin for this phone! Amazing tool, the Z flip 5
I was already convinced, but this pushed me over the edge for the Z Flip 5.
