    You guys are my new favourite thing. Did the Masterclass at Glengoyne today and tasted 12,18, Cask Strength, Distillery Cask and Teapot Dram along with 5 single casks. Absolutely brilliant. Got to mix my own blend from the 5 single casks and bring home. Go if you ever get the chance.

      Hey Kristy!! Welcome to our adventure. Absolutely LOVE GG and it is a DEFINITE stop on our journey when we finally make it to the mother land! The mixing sounds fun and I dream of that Teapot Dram from time to time! Thanks for commenting and don't be shy, the more people we get in on the conversation them more we all learn! Cheers, ~Mark

    Glengoyne is my personal favorite distillery, and both the 21 and the 25 are amazing, each worth every penny of the prices. Which, living in Washington state, is significantly higher than most places, thanks to having some of the highest liquor taxes in the nation. I picked up the bottle of 25 currently in my bar while I was in California on vacation, and it set me back $380.00 At home in Washington, it retails closer to $550.00, and in my opinion, it's still worth the price.

    Had this last october when over the pond...had this, but I elected to take a bottle of private cask , cask strength that I had the opportunity to bottle with some help of staff....the 25 yr was quite nice and so glad you all got to sample it.

    5:16 his face says it ALL lol! Amazing. I think $270 for a 25 year scotch is pretty phenomenal value. Some distilleries would be approaching the thousand dollar mark at that point.

    S4D, glad to hear you really enjoyed this scotch. While in Scotland this past march, I tried the HP 25, Glengoyne 25 and bunnahabhain 25. I rated the Goyne 25 a 95, Bunna 25 a 94 & HP 25 a 92. Lets just say I bought 2 bottles of the Goyne 25 and 1 bottle of the Bunna 25. The Goyne 25 is about $270 from TWE or MOM. That is so cheap compared to other 25 year old bottles like the Mac 25 and so on. Buy 2 or more bottles, the S/H is cheaper. Great review guys.

    270 sounds steep? I just got one of these as a leaving gift from my work and it cost $600 Australian ..... opened it tonight and shared the experience with the Dummies. Absolutely loved the dram.

      @@Scotch4Dummies What to add to your notes? Great Dram, it's such a pleasure to taste it and the age just presents itself in such a magnificent fashion. You just couldn't nose this and taste this without immediately thinking wow that's an old whisky and that's why people say old whiskys are so fantastically complex and balanced. The dryness really stood out for me it was wonderful. Never had a whisky before that could suck the moisture from my mouth like this then have a new wonderful experience as your mouth adjusts. I will say when I first opened the bottle I shared with a couple of my whisky friends and my initial impression was a great whisky but there's something missing. Well the half bottle sat for a week and on re-visiting I have to say it hit new heights. There was nothing missing and the dram went to a new level. the complexity and age was evident but it had a new edge to it that was wonderful. My advice would be to do the neck pour then put it away for a while. Can't wait to give it more time and see how it develops.

    Glengoyne 25 years old is a gem and when you think 270 dollars is expensive, in fact it's a bargain, here it costs already up to around 430 dollars (Europe), PLUS, if I am not mistaken, you get bottles of 75 cl, while we get bottles of 70 cl, so you get more as well...……...

    • @Scotch4Dummies
      @Scotch4Dummies  5 років тому +1

      That is a good point. We have several subscribers who bought a bunch of good whisky years ago and now just enjoy bottles I can’t find or afford. I guess it only increases in price so if you like it and can afford it, but a bunch.

      @@Scotch4Dummies Am fortunate enough to have both the 21 and 25 years old still un-opened and actually I would like to have the 30 years old as well, but the price-gap between 25 and 30 years old is even bigger, the last one starts here at 600 euro's and I ask myself "is this price-difference between 25 and the 30 worth it when the 25 is already excellent??"".....Finally I have a tip for you, if you can get your hands on it you should try out some Blair Athol on cask strength, still affordable and some are really great, for instance the 20 year old by Gordon and Macphail……...thumbs up from The Netherlands.

    Four scotch lovers together and one camera - that's what I call an excellent cooperation 🥃 I have carefully listened your review of GG25 since I am very interested to purchase it. Still the price is >300$ and I am thinking - is this 25 y.o. really worth it? Given your expirience and expertise, can you think of any similar whisky, with the lower price tag? Are GG21 or GlenDro 18/21 any near with the profile and complexity? Cause I can find them 3x cheaper than the Glengoyne 25.. certainly they are much better 'bang for a buck', but can they match up anyhow with the GG25? Thanks for reading and keep up the good work 💪

    • @Scotch4Dummies
      @Scotch4Dummies  4 роки тому +1

      Honestly, right now I'd focus on the GlenDro 18...then the 21 as both of those current bottlings are being filled with older stock. That 18 is THE BOMB! Yes, the GG 21 is also a better value as the GG25 (as great as it is) is a hefty price! Good Luck and thanks for tuning in! ~Mark

    Sounds like my wheelhouse! But is the 4 extra years worth $165 more than the GlenDronach 21yr Parliament? They both are 48% abv, NCF, and natural color.

      Raymaster correct although the "street" is kind of a highway with the not so occasional car going through @ 60mph. You gotta pay attention b/c the parking lot is across the road too.

    Hey Guys:
    Here are my short notes on the Glengoyne 18 and 25 I enjoyed last night at WHEATED in Brooklyn, NY
    GLENGOYNE 18
    COLOR: Dark Brown
    NOSE: Rich Stewed Raisins and Lemon as the whisky opened
    PALETTE: Silky warm mouthfeel with a rich stewed raisin note undercoated with a soft spice
    FINISH: Pleasantly Spicy but transitioning to a dry fruitiness in the end.
    This was Well worth the price IMO. I have now experienced the GLENGOYNE 12, 15, 18 and 25 enjoyed each one for the consistency and richness of the experience.
    GLENGOYNE 25
    COLOR: Very Dark Brown
    NOSE: Sweet PX Sherry? surrounded by a pleasant
    spiciness
    PALETTE: Pleasantly Spicy with a sweet core.
    FINISH: Pleasantly Spicy and drying in the end
    The oak was more present in the 25 imparting a very nice Spice note throughout; yet never completely overshadowing the sweet notes in the whisky. Where the 18 was sweet surrounded by spice; the 25 was Spice with hints of sweetness around it.

      Huh, that's not really out of this world expensive....I honestly expected to see those a little higher out there! Next question....are you going to purchase either bottle knowing how they taste? ~Mark

    • @Gachain
      @Gachain 6 років тому +1

      Mark:
      The bottles are out of my price range, but I enjoy the Glengoyne 12 and 15 and I saw the webcast tasting from the distillery in late summer and knew I wanted to at least have a glass of these 2 beauties. It took me a while to make it happen but I met the Laphroaig brand ambassador for the east coast at a tasting in Manhattan and when he learned that we live in the same neighborhood in Brooklyn; he turned me on to this place. Interesting, it is across the street from my doctor's office I checked the Whisky list and saw the Glengoynes I made it a point to visit around Christmas.
      I do not have much experience buying whisky by the glass because of the fear of Sticker Shock. It is good to know the prices were not over the top. Since it is within walking distance, I will be stopping in from time to time to get a glass of something that would be too high for a bottle or to taste before I buy. I am sure I will see Simon Brooking, the Laphroaig guy there at some point. They also serve Brick Oven pizza. I will have to have some when I next visit. It looked excellent!

    Only had the Glengoyne 14, it was really soft and nice, but a wee bit oaky at the end for me. Apparently most of the range is nice though so will try a few more expressions one day. The 25 will probably forever be out of my price range though!
    P.S. Is this the highest avg rating you guys have done?

    Great review guys!! After watching 6's review on it as well it's now being put on my list for a next purchase. You all seemed to really enjoy it. $270 for a 25 year is not eye-watering by any means compared to some others I've seen, especially considering the product they put in the bottle. Just natural-colored, delicious juice. Cheers
