“Add the housing crisis to the next mission impossible movie so that government officials actually take action” is a crazy thing to say but is actually our reality 💀
One day the less intelligent will learn what the intelligent know: government is not the answer. It always, always, always hurts more than it helps. Free markets will house everyone according to a fair standard, called what you're willing to pay. If your stance is "I should have what I can make others pay" I'll just say that God is watching you.
@@Bill_WooI can’t tell if your an anarchist, or just a Reagen Stan. Either way, you need to get off of Fox News and read a book. I recommend reading A People’s History or The United States. It is a greate book, and will help you escape from this flawed line of logic.
This is hilarious because all the older films depicting AI describe how they acted harmless in order to gain our trust but all simultaneously switched to being malevolent.
First one is Marines and they still use that type of recruiting videos. The Army has always focused on topics that would be approved of by parents (college, education, etc.) because statistically parents play a huge roll in whether a recruit joins the Army.
True, also on average the Marines have the youngest demographic of enlisted, between 17 and 18. They use the Title “Marine” almost like a selling product in and of itself, which attracts aspiring, sometimes directionless young men, and it works. They were the only branch to make the numbers quota last year. Whereas other branches rely more on money, jobs, and education. In this they attract a different demographic of people. Interesting stuff really.
I love how he brought back his old intros, and in my opinion, they should stay even after he leaves, as a reminder that he started it all and stuff, the intros and music are also just amazing
To be fair, I think the theorists misinterpreted that plot line. It wasn’t random. Madeline, the older lady in that clip, spent her life trying to find a way to live forever and she landed on AI. She is not a good person and is painted pretty clearly as a kind of evil and crazy character. In the end, the AI she created didn’t even work. It got stuck repeating one word over and over again. AI is NOT painted positively in that show.
I think Age of Ultron was a definite noticeable turning point for Disney, considering not just Ultron, but Vision is also an AI. One is evil, the other good, representation of if cared for properly and properly handled it might be good, but if misused... we'll get Ultrons.
@@just_a_random_student Yeah, sad as that is to say lol, many probably would treat it well... but that doesn't mean the average or majority won't abuse the system and ruin it for everyone else.
@KahanistTrollPolicewhat do you gain from saying this? People just hate you for a second, and forget about you. You are doing nothing positive or productive for yourself and you are barely affecting others. Do better.
And Clownfish TV has been covering this for since like before the pandemic. But people kept writing them off as either lying, they don't know what they're talking about, or they have a bias against disney

While it is incredibly important to stay aware and informed about the propaganda that Disney and other companies are pushing, it doesn’t mean you won't fall victim to it. However, there is nothing you can to do ensure that you will NEVER give in to propaganda, so the best thing you can do is make sure you know enough about what sorts of content you are consuming. We all have biases, and that's okay, but it's incredibly important that you are aware of how that can impact the decisions you make.
@parkerduggins4512 I agree, but even then Propaganda is all around us. It may not be Uncle Sam aggressively pointing at you, but messages are shown even in the advertisements on the highway billboards.
I started watching film theory before I knew game theory was a thing and before food theory and style theory even EXISTED so the intro just gives me such a big feeling of nostalgia I’ve really missed it 🫶🫶
The recent SAG-AFTRA announcement about a deal with voice over AI “replicas” was not approved with any of the actual voice actors despite announcing it had been approved. There was a huge backlash… and then the story disappeared.
I believe it got shelved in order to get them off the AI Facestealing. Consider it on the backburner, because I still hear people talking about it in the VA industry. This is only coming from an amateur VA mind you.
The Supreme Intelligence wasn't "benevolent", its the primary villain of the series. The fact that the Kree empire fell into ruin after the hero destroyed the AI is not pro-Ai, its anti-Ai. Its a warning about what happens if we become too dependent on AI.
It can still be taken in 2 ways though - one is that is the one said but there’s still the more ‘obvious’ one that is more clear to a lot of people - the fact that if we destroy AI, we will collapse as a society Besides a lot of the people who watch those kind of films are children. How do you think they would interpret it? My bets are on the latter
They rlly said “so there’s this native tribe called the Cree, sounds cool huh? I was thinking of doing a creative take on it, maybe a k instead of a c?”
The whole point of “anti-AI” propaganda is to instill fear in the subconscious of the masses (you can find some neuroscience article explaining how this works), so they can come up with “government measures" and "regulations” to extend state control over the population in order to "prevent the worst from happening". This is perfectly aligned with current geopolitics and the agenda of agencies and organizations such as the "You will own nothing and be happy" club (whose members rule the Media and Hollywood). It worked pretty well for 2020.
So Destroying Ai = Death I think someone could interpret it that way cuz unfortunately I don't think people really tend to think about things for too long Like what I'm not gonna do rn
Thank you, MatPat, for always tackling important issues and using your platform for good. Your work will be missed, but the impact you've made will continue on. Cheers to you!
The detail of The theorists channels bringing back the old intros back when I feel like the theories have less and less intros in them is a really big detail I like. It is like bringing back something a little lost in the motion of today's theories.
I was literally told this semester in college not to use AI because students were starting to use it to write essays. Luckily, they AI just tends to write nonsense and nothing like it’s supposed author so it’s easy to spot, but the idea that an entire essay can be written by an AI and pass as a human in this year is insane Edit: as much as I would love to use it, my teacher said he had a program borrowed from the IT people at the college that can scan for AI when you are writing an essay. He said you can ONLY us certain AI to fix grammar and whatnot. Like Word
@@smith9808 In order to tell it to include particular points, you'd have to know the material. Also, you have to have a writing style before it can be adjusted to match it. Once you have all that, it's hard to see AI as anything but a tool that just makes you faster at creating things you already knew how to create.
Wait till you get out in the working world where your employers lay off your copywriting team and tell you to use chat gpt instead... It's a wild time we live in.
That's a really, really good point. Human writers never get the first draft right so you always have to go back and edit anyway. If you just take out that one, most tedious and emotionally/intellectually difficult first phase of writing, your job gets a lot easier and you can spend way more time editing whatever the AI produces. But if I were to do that, I would lose my own creativity and natural flow of thought; the AI would have a much harder time copying me to my satisfaction.@@smith9808

There’s a big difference between Carrie Fisher AI, and Mark Hamill AI. People were upset about Carrie Fisher AI being used because Carrie has unfortunately passed and cannot give consent for this AI to replicate her face and her likeness. Mark Hamill is alive. He received a paycheck for Luke’s de-aged appearance since he helped in the creation of that scene. Mark was there as a character model and was used for reference. Disney straight up denied negotiating with Carrie’s family for her likeness, reads as they didn’t pay her family for her AI appearance. Fans can be both okay with Mark giving his consent for his AI model and upset with Carrie’s unapproved AI appearance.
Carrie died after Rogue One released. A better example would be Peter Cushing, the guy who played Grand Moff Tarkin. He's been dead for a very long time
Except that Carrie Fisher undoubtedly signed something waaaaay back when the original trilogy was filmed that most definitely would have had a release to use her likeness for anything involving Star Wars. At the time, they might've had things like toys, promotions, books, and whatnot in mind, but the terms are almost always vague enough to leave room for new technology and products.

@@100000Andy All we could hope for is having AI replace all the menial and dangerous jobs, and humans free to work solely in creative, artistic, and philosophical capabilities. The problem most people (myself included) have with it is that it has done the opposite. humans work menial and dangerous jobs because somehow its actually cheaper than artificial labor, and AI is replacing the creative and artistic roles. Which if you dont understand the issue is that these things (AI gen artwork, writing, deepfakes) is overwhelmingly done by stealing other artists or writers work without their permission or rights... What we get is just a generic amalgamation of these things, of course referencing and learning from other artists is what we do as well, but human artists add these influences to their own style and worldview. Not probable that AI will have original thoughts anytime soon
@@BuddyWudzynyou label human thoughts as original and AI work as stealing. However you are not able to show that there is a clear difference between how the AI works and how the human brain works. The training data to AI is like you going into a museum and looking at other artworks, learning how to draw face by looking at other drawn faces.
The same thing happened with Reagan and that Matthew Broderick movie, "War Games." Reagan watched it, then went to his cabinet and asked them, "Can this actually happen?" (Talking about what Broderick did by hacking into Norad.) The cabinet came back with a resounding, "Yes, it can." Which led to a huge overhaul.

This is a little ironic, since in Fantasia, the short "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" has Mickey create "living" brooms that do all of his chores for him. Even though he thought this would make life easier for him, the brooms are TOO good at their job of filling up the well, flooding the entire room. This is a little similar to how AI was originally introduced and was used for fun, now for it to be mass producing content that harms pretty much every artist or writer even if it was unintentional.
An exponentially growing quantity of brooms is bad, sure. But if the apprentice had the discipline and knowledge to stop at 5 brooms, a number that he could easily babysit to keep them out of trouble? That would be a good thing. In fact, that's what the automation revolution is all about - fewer people doing more work, freeing up other people to do other work (such as the programming and logistics needed to support automation in the first place). The question isn't IF to use AI, the question is how much to use AI, and the answer to that question will vary as artists, industries, and consumers continue to adapt and learn.
Great video! My one nitpick though is that the reason people were more outraged with rogue one's AI and not as much with the mandalorian's AI is because rogue one brought someone back to life without their permission, while the mandalorian did have their permistion. Again i want to say that this video is very well done and informative. This is just my small little nitpick.
1) They had explicit permission to recreate Peter Cushing's likeness. 2) The digitial Tarkin was 100% traditional CGI, with no AI involved. It was an insanely detailed and painstakingly animated 3D model, not a deepfake like digital Luke Skywalker.
Last year Coleydoesthings did a video about AI in fanfiction. I genuinely believe fanfic, tumblr and reddit will probably be the biggest holdout in AI acceptance because they are so uniquely and derangly human. Love you video and hers giving us a warning on what to look out for
Interesting, I've been wondering about fanfic with CharacterAI where you can make "conversation" with AIs of your favorite characters. I feel like people are going to want to post these convos and might pass it as their own work or at least flood fanfic spaces with them. I've already seen a few fan discords of certain characters have dedicated spaces for CharacterAI work - separate from fanfic postings but people love it and I think it will creep into fanfic sites if it hasn't already. AI work is already allowed in Ao3 as part of their archival process.

15:40-16:08 This whole criticism of using AI generated images is not just happening within Disney movies. Just a couple months ago, a horror movie, “Late Night with the Devil,” used a few AI generated still images for a few moments and that part about the movie got criticized too. Even though everything else about it was well praised. I bring this movie up, because I actually had the chance to see it back in April. (I know it technically came out last year, but that was only seen by those who happened to be at South by Southwest in Austin at that point. But it’s still very recent to the rest of us that weren’t there.)

It's a mistake to think that just because you know propaganda is happening, you won't be influenced by it. Any time any ad conveys any message, to some extent you know that you're being told something that someone wants you to believe. It doesn't necessarily protect you from being influenced.
Especially normalization propaganda like matpat focus on here. Just think about all the stuff that is normal now and how people would react to it 20 years ago. Take for example the recruiting ad matpat showed, the very idea of a women in a combat zone would have been taken very differently in past, not to mention the 2 moms part.

The change in stories about AI being the bad guy vs the good guy, is a cycle that flips every few decades. Look at movies involving AI before the 80s, they're often the friendly helper robots. Or look at how robots were often portrayed in Japanese media, often the heroes of the story, saving people.
Welcome to capitalism - the capitalists are afraid of AI because their system of greed doesn't work without wage slaves and AI *will* eventually replace most, if not all, jobs ...
So happy to see them old intros back 😁 And the fact that some of his final theories that contains topics like these that spread awareness (about issues that would prolly get worse in the future) is really heartwarming 💯
I’m a playwright/short story writer, and AI has been the topic of conversations for a good while now-all of it negative. We genuinely feel like our careers are being threatened. I’m quite nervous at what future we have with AI.
AI is not gonna take your jobs, heck, it might even help ya, IF it was done right. And especially if it was made properly. It is made to be a tool to help ya write and make things a little bit easier, not a straight replacement against you. Given that it quality is more than questionable if that were to be the case. Like any tool, it all depends on the user. Yeah, there's a lot of negativity here, given that some of them resort to fear tactics to persuade people, which is honestly as worse as companies propagandizing AI into everything.

I am genuinely scared. I got into a debate just today. I’m an artist, I want be a voice actress and animator, but the past month on deviantart alone 10 out of 11 pieces of art are AI, it’s rare to find original pieces. I’m scared, and I am struggling to find comfort because it’s a fear that could essentially change my life
It will change your life, just like technology always has. Artists have always and will always exist within their time, facing their culture and events that they live through. Some react with fear and create art out of that, but you don't have to be scared, you can just look at the river you're swimming through and find a path that suits you.
As an artist myself, I’m constantly surrounded by cool people making stuff, at least in my little corner of the internet. I don’t see it going anywhere, and there’s a fairly large community of people who are very passionate about it NOT going anywhere. Even if the more “mainstream” corporate kinda stuff eventually becomes mostly generated, I don’t really care since I was never a big fan of that kinda stuff anyways, and as long as I can do my stuff, I’m happy ^.^ I’m mostly on Game Jolt, it’s sort of a game-dev/social media with a big focus on nerd culture, especially gaming. If you like Mat Pat I imagine that’d be up your alley? Not trying to shill for them or anything but it’s a nice community and I like it there, idk but maybe you’d be more comfortable there too ^.^ Lots of amazing artists. Not as many voice actors but we could use more tbh
I’m in college for animation and we’re working on our short right now. I was doing research on Japanese art and I couldn’t find what I was looking for so I had the idea of asking chat gpt (even though I was skeptical) for some things and I got some results (i fact checked it too). But I had then thought hey what if I asked it for art tips? And guess what? It answers. So then I thought, what about all of those UA-cam tutorials that I’ve watched of people giving out tips? Would they all just fade away and be replaced with ai one day? Will there be a day where AI replaces teachers? A day where the level of skill for entry in certain jobs be so high that only a robot could teach it to you? Trust me when I say I feel your pain because I’m worried too. I have literally put my entire life into learning art just so I can hopefully make enough money to sustain my future family one day and I too am worried that I would have to ditch all of those long hours and go work at some other in need job that may even be replaced in the near future.
I stopped watching theory videos long ago, but tbh this one actually has a kinda important message that I actually would like to see more people aware of. It addresses several important issues, really. Thanks for using one of your last few videos to do some public good, and congrats!
We should be. They're funding so many bad things and have done terrible actions. Everything the higher ups of this massively influential company is purely for their benefit. Not a single thought to the well being of anyone they consider under them. Everyone needs to be critical of everything Disney is doing now
right now, Amazon is full of books written by AI- and its not just fiction: there are DANGEROUS books on mushroom foraging, herbal medicine and so on that have lethally incorrect information (and sometimes just funny information, like mushrooms that only exist in games being reported seriously in foraging books)
At first I was like, "it doesn't help that we're steadily forgetting how to scrutinize messaging for the motives behind them and increasingly interpreting things literally." But, as the video went on, I was like, "umm. Now that you mention it. There's been a lot of anime recently where AI are portrayed as a discriminated class. Huh."
underwhelmingly this issue reminds me of something a friend of mine once said "we are living in the most boring version of dystopia/cyberpunk" there are no great ai revolutions, corporate wars to fight head on with explosions and grit, no great struggle in the light just outside courtrooms to revive justice or secure workers rights. there is just a slow, necrotic fissure slowly growing in society from an apathetic progress. art being replaced by artificial work and worth in work becoming artificial, when really that should be completely backwards. it defies logic that we would create technology that imitates art rather than by replacing dangerous work in industry. but it feels like we are writing ourselves out of the narrative without any kind of meaning or foresight.
The thing about the Creator is, I feel like it was supposed to be an ambiguous film where neither side was particularly good, and it has some plot points to back it up. The whole "donating likeness" and sneaking explosives into deliveries. However, it ended up just being an AI marketing campaign with weird phrases like "AI is the future/evolution!" and "Nothing will happen to America once we win this war" that just felt really out of place.
In this regard, I have to question matpat whether or not he watched the same movie, since neither side are on the right. Heck, it's the classic empire vs rebellion fight where morality is in the gray and both sides did nefarious deeds in service of their cause. I seriously doubt that it's an pro AI movie.
@@elijaheumags5060I think that's what they may be starting with. Starting with something neutral, like, "Yes AI is bad but so are humans." By humanizing AI to make it seem friendly, especially the usage of a child, they make AI seem child like, and innocent, in addition the plain folk technique of propaganda is also used. This makes the message not nessecarily "AI is good humans bad" but instead makes it "AI is just like us., and is mostly innocent just like us and our children." That's generally a technique used to get people to be pro-something, in this case Pro-AI, by making it down to earth and grounded.
Even though I haven’t watched the entire film myself, the AI characters seemed to be cast in a more sympathetic light than the human characters, though I also think the line between human and AI had blurred significantly in the movie’s timeline so it didn’t matter nearly as much. Side-note, it’s a hefty dose of irony that a video talking about AI is being ruthlessly reply-spammed by troll bots.

Long time ago I written a book about an alien race that have AI units integrated into homes ships, and various things. They have their own personalities and so forth. They were not made to replace people in jobs, They were used as aids or worker companions. AI may be a great tool, but it's a tool all the same. With great power, comes great responsibility...
AGREED. AI may be good, but it's still made by humans, and this may sound harsh but... anything made by humans is logically IMPOSSIBLE to not have flaws. Humans as a species are flawed in one way or another, sometimes to a level we can't actually totally understand. So how can we make something that has no flaws? We can't! Perfection is impossible!
What's interesting is that stories have always had the intention of providing subtle messages, it's the whole concept of a theme. The problem is that it depends on how it is handled.
Exactly If a story completely glosses over or tries to excuse the other side(s) without ever addressing them and keeps pushing only one side, then it becomes propaganda. Gebwrally, Good stories are not afraid of playing devil's advocate with their themes if the need arises imo
Great historic works like 'aesop's fables' for example have a message that is something good and valuable to pass onto future generations. Or works which tackle adult and interesting philosophical ideas that the audience can engage with and form their own opinions, that can be "political" IE Star Trek TNG. To annihilate the "politics is bad" fallacy - the problem is not politics, it is the the embracing and normalization of unhealthy, immoral, or otherwise wholly untolerable teachings. Things that should not be allowed to be passed on to future generations.
the fall of the house of usher example is more complicated, because the character extolling the virtues of AI is basically the main villain of a series full of villains. so when you see it, you feel more like it’s actually a knock on mind digitization / AI than it is a promotion
This happens often in these MattPatt theories. Whoever on the team is making these mistakes needs to be more careful and stop looking for confirmation in everything.

Eh, that was kind of predictable to anyone with a functioning brain. Why spend thousands of dollars building robotic bodies to perform the labor when the AI Overlords can just get the already existing autonomous nanotech that are cheap and self maintaining to do it instead? At least they're pragmatic bosses not engaging in constant debauchery.
Ultron going nuts and deciding to get rid of humans after reading twitter is still my favorite part and the first thing I think about when someone talks about AI going sentient XD
For Ai to even come close to replacing humans they'd have to be a science fiction level of intelligent like the robot masters and reploids from megaman
For anyone who's curious how this is playing out in real life: My work dropped a LinkedIn training that's supposedly about "increasing communication" but is really about training your "well-prompted AI ally" (exact words).
Matpat talking about propaganda is amazing, i used to watch him all the time as a kid. As i see the world more its nice to feel a creator growing with me
14:35 would like to point out that in this series the character advocating for ai use is explicitly villainous, the attempt to create an ai replica of a human is shown to be a naive failure unable to capture the true essence of the person (the show basically telling us ai will never be able to do what people can as well as people can) and show creator Mike Flanagan was actively involved in the recent strikes against the use of generative ai in Hollywood.
Thank you for saying this. I was about to say that the house of usher is Poe works. The ai is supposed to be the raven in the poem. Aka the memory of Lenore. And the ai was supposed to be this haunting and horrifying thing. Not something actually cool. The whole point of house of usher is how all of these characters actions lead to their tragic end and could have been avoided. Ai in this series is not acting as something you should like.
Thank you! I don’t feel crazy! Last movie I watched, The Creator, I kept thinking to myself ‘can we stop romanticizing AI? Can we please take a few steps back and keep in mind the lessons from Terminator?’ I don’t know if I’m alone, because hey! Disney is using propaganda!
Lessons from the terminator? It’s literally a work of fiction. Ai can be amazing when used responsibly. You can make a movie making anything seem scary. For example imagine a movie about a world that goes full anarchy because people use cars as weapons to ram into each other and then suddenly everyone in real life is scared of cars and don’t want to use them. It’s just mass hysteria based on a work of fiction that isn’t even real
I like the idea of smart robots, it has always been a interesting topic to me, but I also know the "good robot" outcome normally appears because the ones making the bots do it for the love of the science and trying to benefit humanity...
While it is incredibly important to stay aware and informed about the propaganda that Disney and other companies are pushing, it doesn’t mean you won't fall victim to it. The Supreme Intelligence wasn't "benevolent", its the primary villain of the series. The fact that the Kree empire fell into ruin after the hero destroyed the AI is not pro-Ai, its anti-Ai. Its a warning about what happens if we become too dependent on AI.
It can still be taken in 2 ways though - one is that is the one said but there’s still the more ‘obvious’ one that is more clear to a lot of people - the fact that if we destroy AI, we will collapse as a society
Besides a lot of the people who watch those kind of films are children.
So
Destroying Ai = Death

I was literally told this semester in college not to use AI because students were starting to use it to write essays. Luckily, they AI just tends to write nonsense and nothing like it’s supposed author so it’s easy to spot, but the idea that an entire essay can be written by an AI and pass as a human in this year is insane
Edit: as much as I would love to use it, my teacher said he had a program borrowed from the IT people at the college that can scan for AI when you are writing an essay. He said you can ONLY us certain AI to fix grammar and whatnot. Like Word
It can with enough tweaking. It can write the basis and include all your points and you can adjust it to sound more like you.
@@smith9808
In order to tell it to include particular points, you'd have to know the material.

He's been dead for a very long time
@UTTPWorldPoliceWhat????
yeah i agree with this.
Except that Carrie Fisher undoubtedly signed something waaaaay back when the original trilogy was filmed that most definitely would have had a release to use her likeness for anything involving Star Wars.

Just look at all the people in this comments section who have been influenced by MatPat's propaganda in this video. They clearly can't see it . . .
absolutely correct.
the fact that MatPat isn't using his platform for activism ( through his own subtle propaganda) only contributes to the mess of it all. sure he is not "supporting it" but he IS normalizing it.

The change in stories about AI being the bad guy vs the good guy, is a cycle that flips every few decades. Look at movies involving AI before the 80s, they're often the friendly helper robots. Or look at how robots were often portrayed in Japanese media, often the heroes of the story, saving people.

Yeah I don't want human art and creativity to die within my generation 😩

I’m scared, and I am struggling to find comfort because it’s a fear that could essentially change my life
Deviant art definitely isn't what it was like 5 years ago. There are definitely other sites if you want the community.
Even if the more “mainstream” corporate kinda stuff eventually becomes mostly generated, I don’t really care since I was never a big fan of that kinda stuff anyways, and as long as I can do my stuff, I’m happy ^.^
I’m mostly on Game Jolt, it’s sort of a game-dev/social media with a big focus on nerd culture, especially gaming. If you like Mat Pat I imagine that’d be up your alley?
Not trying to shill for them or anything but it’s a nice community and I like it there, idk but maybe you’d be more comfortable there too ^.^
Lots of amazing artists.

@UTTPWorldPolice Shut up man stop spamming.
underwhelmingly this issue reminds me of something a friend of mine once said "we are living in the most boring version of dystopia/cyberpunk"
there are no great ai revolutions, corporate wars to fight head on with explosions and grit, no great struggle in the light just outside courtrooms to revive justice or secure workers rights. there is just a slow, necrotic fissure slowly growing in society from an apathetic progress. art being replaced by artificial work and worth in work becoming artificial, when really that should be completely backwards. it defies logic that we would create technology that imitates art rather than by replacing dangerous work in industry. but it feels like we are writing ourselves out of the narrative without any kind of meaning or foresight.
"The Hole In The Zero" is the novel the Disney movie "Holes" was based on.
They call him ZERO because they can.
Starting with something neutral, like, "Yes AI is bad but so are humans."
By humanizing AI to make it seem friendly, especially the usage of a child, they make AI seem child like, and innocent, in addition the plain folk technique of propaganda is also used.
This makes the message not nessecarily "AI is good humans bad" but instead makes it "AI is just like us., and is mostly innocent just like us and our children."
That's generally a technique used to get people to be pro-something, in this case Pro-AI, by making it down to earth and grounded.

If a story completely glosses over or tries to excuse the other side(s) without ever addressing them and keeps pushing only one side, then it becomes propaganda.

Lessons from the terminator? It’s literally a work of fiction. Ai can be amazing when used responsibly. You can make a movie making anything seem scary.
