    I make the trip to the active State of Delaware vehicle surplus auction which had 6 Ford Crown Vic's and 1 Chevy Caprice PPV. I do an inspection on each of these seven cars, make an assessment and determine a max bid. Join along and see what you think of the cars, their condition and what your maximum bid might be. The auction closes the next day so join me for a follow-up to see what the cars sold for and if I was a winner at this auction.

    TY ,I enjoyed watching the video I like those big cars for some reason, when I was 18 I had a 1969 Plymouth Fury III 318 engine ,avocado metallic green,I bought it at a dealer in 1974 for $900 was owned by Kraft food company and auctioned off, very well maintained so quite the bargain back in 74, I drove it round trip to my job every day which was,160 miles ...Well It overheated one Wed. in the middle of the night and I drove it for an hour like that and made it home, the engine refused to melt ,After I replaced a hose it ran fine but here's the fuck of it , I used water because that's all I had at the time to replace the coolant and forgot about that and the engine cracked when the temp dropped to 20 degrees one Sunday done ....Epilog, i bought another 1969 Fury exactly ten years later In 1984 think I paid $750. for it and that was a mistake too many issues to list LOL dam big cars !!

    Great vid. I bought a 2009 cvpi for 1400 last August. It had 119k miles with 5000 idle hours. It had the prisoner seat in the back. Bought a set of rear seats for 100 bucks at the junk yard. I’ve put about 10k miles on it and runs like a top. For the cars you are watching I believe 12 to 1400 would be top for me to pay.

    The car that had the airbag light flashing on, that you commented you wouldn’t wanna mess with looks like the light on the passenger side trim that lights up and says “PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF” or whatever is either missing or broken. If that little bulb is out or broken, the airbag light in the dash will flash immediately even with 100% working airbags. Just for future reference, if you see an airbag light on in a Vic, check that little light. It gets pulled and broken when someone man handles the trim that goes across the car when trying take it off. Doesn’t take much to break that little light.

    • @hullinger
      @hullinger  5 років тому +2

      Jono, thanks for the comment and tip on the airbag light. Really appreciate that. I've seen folks at these auctions press the fuel cutoff switch so the car wouldn't start. So I could image someone pulling on that light bulb to light up the airbag light. Also, thanks for watching, as always!!! -Chris

    I can't speak for your area, but here in TX the only one worth buying to flip is the Caprice. The Vics would be great as daily drivers, but not enough likelihood to fix 'em up and sell them for enough profit to justify the risk (of course you know that I fix 'em up right instead of just putting a quick band aid on them!)

    • @hullinger

      The only logical reason I see anyone bidding on crown Vic’s is for something to beat on. I don’t see any reason paying 5k+ on a cvpi when you can buy a high mileage with scratches and dents for less than 2k usually sometimes less than 1k and your still getting a reliable car in most cases

      Yeah man, I learned a lesson on getting that Tahoe fixed. You're right too about mixing friendship with business. Just not worth it. As for the Mopars, there was one Charger that had a 3.5L engine. There was a Magnum too, which I always liked, but it didn't run and I believe it was confiscated which is why it was at auction.. Just didn't want to get into either.

    Chris, thanks for the new auction preview vlog. I've been checking back regularly to see the latest and this video didn't disappoint. I go to my local auction house previews here in Seattle. They are a lot of fun, but it's usually raining, not snowing. It looked pretty cold that day. I'm curious about lot 904 and what you thought about that Vic. It was talking to me.

    • @hullinger
      @hullinger  5 років тому

      Thanks for checking back and I'm glad you enjoyed the auction preview. And yeah, Lot #904 looked good to me too. I was hesitant to bid only because of the unknown idle hours and a guess on the mileage at 155K. Otherwise, the body was good, interior too. Final bid was $1400 which meant I would have had to up the bid another $100 and possibly more in order to get the car. It just got beyond my comfort level considering the risk of buying at an auction. I'm starting to think that I'm either getting cheap or these cars are selling for slightly higher than what I'm used to. -Chris

    Hey Chris, nice to hear from you again. Looking at the cars on the auction day is definitely great fun. Maybe I'll take a look at an inspection day at one of my next USA holidays. But now to the topic: please no longer buy a car which the DOD system has installed. A single disaster (the Tahoe disaster) is enough, or :-) Concentrate on the Vic's. No. 902 and 909 are great .... and so cheap. Always remember that I have paid the factor 10 :-).
    But a question: what is that hole for where you said that the ticket light is missing. I also have the hole. is this the radar instrument? Otherwise: greetings to deleware also to your family from Germany. We're having the same weather right now. We just have some snow and I need a hat as well. Frank
    By the way: did you see my highway video? 10,000 have seen it within a few days. madness! that tells me: you want to see more of my Vic, more speed and the German Autobahn. I give my best. there will be a new video in the spring :-)

    • @hullinger
      @hullinger  5 років тому +1

      Hello Frank! It's incredible to see 75K views on your one video. Really amazing, and to see the number of subscribers you have. I'm soo happy for you and it's inspiring too. Congratulations. As for the hole in the headliner near the rear view mirror, that hole is for the ticket light. It is a interior light that police would use to light up the inside of the car when writing a ticket or report. If you notice, the interior lights of your police car probably do not come on when the door is opened. That is called Dark-Mode and allows a police officer to discreetly exit their car at night without the interior lights coming on and notifying the bad guy. Here is a link to a ticket light on USA eBay so you can see what it looks like. www.ebay.com/itm/WATCHGUARD-DV-1-TICKET-LIGHT-MOUNT-WITH-SOUND-OFF-RED-WHITE-LIGHT-ATTACHED/303014826113?hash=item468d175081:g:xjcAAOSwkelcK49g:rk:20:pf:0

The Crown Vic's here in Delaware have all been without the limited slip rear differential. Seems like the State orders these cars no extra features like limited slip, cruise control, carpeting.... I mean, I get why but one of the BIG problems, to me at least, with these cars is the lack of traction in rain and snow. A limited-slip rear would make a huge difference!

      @hullinger  5 років тому

      Thanks man for watching my auction video. On replacing the steering wheel, there's one from an '09 CVPI on eBay for $73 and free shipping. My attitude is that it's no big deal spending $100 on a replacement steering wheel IF I can get the car for the right price. That silver Vic at the auction ended up selling for $2,933 which was way, WAY more than I wanted to spend considering the risk. Mike Sal recommended a steering wheel cover, which is a great and cheap idea.

      On those missing ticket lights on the Crown Vic's, I first thought that maybe the lights were removed and reused on another car, but now I think there's another reason. I'm thinking that someone is stealing them. I have a hunch that the folks that bring those Vic's to the auction lot are taking them when they drop off the car. Crown vic best deal for an all around daily driver and cheap to fix and a tough car, second place maybe caprice more performance parts not as easy to come by, charger more maintenance lotsa power but spend more time in the shop with repairs and being from chrysler expensive parts and not as reliable. The vic best deal and cheap and reliable and the toughest car of the 3.If ya like a tough car and not all about speed the vic its built like a tank. Mileage aint bad for a heavy 235 to 250 hp v8 that weighs 4k lbs 25 highway isnt bad. Insurance cheap too. Its a solid steel classic car now too.
